Good morning everyone. Dex and I are off to run errands in the rain. Its time for the weather to move east to west. I so want this rain to go to Texas.

Morning, all!

Thanks for the nest visit report! Did the starling steal the feather?

Megan, thanks for the stink bug chart!

Good mid-morning, everyone.

Good morning, Judie! Will trade my day for yours!

Thanks all for wishing the rain this way. Do appreciate it! Now if all those wishes would just come true!

Carpet folks are still not here and I am still working on my second mug of coffee.

Good morning, gang.
Not a good night for me......tossed and turned and stewed most of the night.
Troubles galore......not really, but quandaries, for sure.

Anybody have DirecTV??? Lost all local stations at MN last night. Said they were no longer available. Reset my receivers....still same. Called Carolyn when she got home at 2:30----same situation for her. She stayyed on hold on phone for 3 hrs. waiting for tech assistance...she finally gave up and went to bed. Website has all kinds of disturbing, confusing upgrade info that sounds totally assinine. MTBR....but stations did reappear at 6......
Also pondering adopting a puppy---again! Think I am going to make application......a 4 month old mini-Piebald doxie named Sissy!!! Our sissy will swoon when she sees her!
My mind is just all jumbled.....also being assailed by a very distant relative about genealogy.....cuz just hooked us up and she is emailing constantly....and I just am in a frame of mind to not be interested in it right now.

Sorry to prattle......

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Oh Hedgie, I love doxies more than pandas!!!! I have four so we can't get anymore but I would love to have a puppy again. We haven't had a puppy since Ellie Mae and that has been 10 years ago. The rest were rescues and came to us full grown! Love me some doxies!!!!

Lolly said...

They are here, moving furniture. Just embarressed to death!! Just imagine what was under our four poster king bed!! Yikes! Annie had left tons of black hair plus a hair ball or two. Grosssssss! Jack is presently trying to figure out how to vacuume under that bed from now on. We have stored our Christmas tree under the bed. No more!

Sissy---I'll try to send you a pic of her.

Lolly, I know exactly where you are coming from!! My Bill always laughed at me....he said that I had no idea the kinds of things they often see that are far worse than anything they see in my house!! He owns a carpet store!

Don't feel bad, Red!!! Happens to all of us at some point!

DanaMo said...

Hedgie-Love your prattle. We all need to do it and somehow it makes us feel better! I say definitely adopt a puppy. Nothing better than the love of our dogs!!

Lolly-nothing compares to the dog hair I have in my house! I vacuum daily and while I have been working on the cabinets I just left the hose on so I could vacuum up the hairs as I see them so they don't get in my paint job!

Cabinet update-stalled...waiting for paint to dry is a drag and I've run out of room to put anymore out. All the tabletops are taken and I don't want to do it outside because the wind is blowing.

Kay said...

Red went to bed about 25 minutes ago, so where are our eagles ?

Paula, yes, I watched the starling steal the feather--part of a nest lining now I spose'.

Margy, hmmmmm ramps have to be delicious, I'm going to watch for them at our Farmer's Market.

Finally saw a Lake Washington parent feeding two precious bobbleheads. Sweet !

Lynn, sounds like you really want a puppy and you won't find one more dear than that little doxie. Long ago I had a standard long hair, black and buff, female, LowRider. She was a wonderful dog. Last year Julie and I shared dog sitting duties for a gal who was in Hong Kong for a month. Winnie is a 4 yr. old red smooth hair Minnie. We didn't want to part with her when her owner returned !

Like DanaMo, I love it when people "prattle"---I do a lot of it myself after all !

movin said...

I was reading the stuff on Buddy's training the other day, and it looks like he is doing very well.

C(°Ù¿°)D Jim

Kay said...

Winnie is a mini, that is !

Kay said...

Lolly, black hair and fur balls are far from the worst those fellas have seen. Having worked in the hotel industry for 20 years, I know about some really gross things that are found under beds ! What color is the carpet ? Isn't it going to feel great to have it all done. Been there, done that !

hedgie said...

Jim, they are having to make some adjustments to Buddy's hood that they use when they dremel his beak. Apparently it was custom-made. Thank goodness they don't have to anesthetize him anymore to dremel!

Kay, had doxies growing up, and just lost my only adulthood girl doxie in Oct. at 11. She was supposed to be a mini, but apparently the breeder was NOT paying attention to what her dogs were doing!

hedgie said...

DanaMo....you know what they says about drying paint!!!
Like watching a kettle boil!

Kay, be advised that ramps are VERY pungent---odor and taste.....people won't want to be around you or your house! JMHO!

paula eagleholic said...

Jim, I was reading on Buddy's training too...looks like it's going well. They even have a short video on youtube.

Lynn, I agree with Kay, go for the dog. ☺

hedgie said...

Thanks for support, dear friends. I couldn't possibly have another bad experience, could I? Mai was the only one in 40 yrs. of being an adult.....my folks had one when I was a baby that they were sitting for a prolonged period while a friend was out of the country....that did NOT work out. No other "failures" ever until Mai. :( But I still miss her bad a--!

Kay said...

Lynn, I read up on ramps per Margy's advice. One comment was, "don't plan on being around anyone who hasn't also eaten them for at least three days !" It might not be real nice of me to fry em' up here since I live in a fourplex with a little lobby in common. One of the residents is a caterer who has a shop, but often bakes, cooks, scrumptious smelling stuff in his kitchen here. I told him I gain weight just on the aroma. So far he's never cooked anything icky smelling here.

Out working in the yard. Just came in to take a peek. It is looking good. The carpet is green. Sort of a dark sage green, rich looking. I really like it. Had light green before...it showed everything. The bedroom is blue.."washed denin". Laurel tried to get me to go with all one color. That would involve painting the bedroom and all new comforter, etc. for the bed. Not up to that and like what I have.

Okay, back outside. It is looking good and, yes, I am going to be so happy with it when it is all done. Come see me! House will look nice!☺

News flash, Norfolk eagle killed by airplane this morning at 850am. Authorites think it is the 15 yr old female of the nest. Moderated forum was shut down immediately. In the meantime, no adult has been seen. Mom was the last to feed the eaglets.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Okay, I can't take it anymore. Backing out for a little bit.

Hi, Everyone,

Sharon and Sissy, praying for your friend who lost her grandson so tragically, and for his whole family--both of you, too! It seems so WRONG when a child goes before their parents, but praying that God will get them through it and give them peace of heart.

Have a male house finch serenading me this morning. There are 3 finch nests under our front eaves again this year. I love their songs--so melodic!

Miss Emma is happy. When she woke up this morning, her tummy was SO hungry, you could hear it growling clear across the room! She had a HUGE breakfast, and is snoring a bit right now.

Which reminds me, Lynn, I hope you decide to adopt the mini doxie puppy.
She sounds like a real cutie, and I'm sure she would mend your aching heart.

Well, need to get busy. Have transcription to get done (big surprise!!! ;o]) Will check back in when able. Hope everyone has a good day!

Ms Bookworm said...

P.S.--Lolly, I am SO jealous of your new carpet! Sounds like a really pretty color. We have found that our light beige carpet and Miss Emma's often muddy paws do NOT mix well!LOL

hedgie said...

Oh, Lord, no, Liz.......how tragic. How much more can happen this year to break so many hearts?
Excuse me, but Darn...it's just noot right.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

I can't do this anymore! I am swearing off of eagle cams for a while! I will watch my little panda cams. Too much sadness and heartache this year! Just too much!!!

glo said...

Oh No I am sickened by Norfolk News. Just when your heart feels a little ighter wham!!! Right upside the heart. I have to go too. Have no clue. Sad sad, I think they are old enough that Dad can get them to fledge but I won't be watching this. I know however from past that there will be intervention at Norfolk. They will not let those eaglets die!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

I have read all the comments and happy to find all is well.
Lolly, carpet will be beautiful - you will probably lie down on it and fall asleep!

Hedgie - I need an email pic
I hope all goes well in adoption process. I assume not the same place as Mai.. Anxious to see her.

The Norfolks eaglets are close to self feeding, dad can do this by himself, if indeed it was mom killed by the plane.

Eagle and plane

Kay said...

Another sad, sad day. My eyes are full of tears and I just feel sick. Those of you who've posted since this news came through have expressed my feelings and I won't repeat. Thanks to Sharon for the link. I agree, if Reece says it's "almost certainly" the NBG female, it is. Fortunately this dad is one of the great ones. He's loved feeding the female as well as the chicks and many evenings there was the sweet scene of family meals. He's wanted to nurture more than she's allowed and I feel certain he'll give it his all.

Leona said...

I don't know if I am strong enough to take much more of this. Firs the we loose Paddy, no sign of Liberty and now with the Norfolk female eagle. It's just to much for my first time in watching eagle nest. Don't think my heart can take much more of this sadness.

Robyn said...

More tears especially talking to mom, my heart is so heavy with all that has been happening this year. Will they remove the eaglets or will they let nature take its course? Please say they will intervene.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Mits just reminded me. I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Reese last year. I was there the day the first eaglet hatched.

Liz said...

I've read that Norfolk will intervene if necessary, but I think Dad will raise them, the eaglets are close to self feeding age.

Robyn said...

Another week or so and they can feed themself if food is brought in. I hope dad can do this and they wont need to intervene but if they need to I hope they do.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

My heart just weighs a thousand pounds. I am speechless. Something that has brought so much joy to so many has brought so much heartache this year. I just don't know. I say I am not going to watch anymore but in my heart of hearts, I know that can't be true. This is part of who I am, what I love. I know that we must be willing to accept nature as it comes but Lord have mercy, I just don't know.

Kay said...

From the discussion line at 3:05

WVEC: It has been confirmed that the female eagle from the NBG nest was killed this morning when she was struck by an airplane. DGIF officials are meeting now to decide the status of the nest at Norfolk Botanical Garden.

Bob Quinn said...

Wow, been quite a trying year for eagle cam watchers.

glo said...

Well they intervened for Buddy and a photographer saved a drowning eaglet last year. They are NOT going to let the eaglets die while we all watch. Sorry but ya know what I am saying. Dad just may be able to pull this off and I believe he and the eaglets will be as they always are actually, monitored closely.

Kay said...

This so ironic as she's met with the same fate as her first mate did some years ago. She soon found a fine young replacement and I hope this male is able to do the same--and that he insists on the use of the NBG nests he's been a part of. The females choose the nesting sites, but maybe he can influence that decision. We can hope.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Just bawling here, just heartbroken.

THey reopened the Norfolk thread and there is no word yet what they are going to do regarding the eaglets, they will post when they find out.

Leona said...

Well I am off to the doctors. Looks like I have to drive myself. This is going to be fun.

My heart is just so heavy with grief I can not bare it. We are better to have seen the love and care these eagles show us. We all need to learn from them. RIP Dear Lady.

floralgirl said...

Damn, that NBG news is just heartbreaking. :(

Kay said...

Thought of Guela just now. Isn't the eagle she's been working on to be a replica of the NGG female ? I thought that's what she said. Oh, how heavy her heart will be. Oh, how heavy are the hearts of all eagle lovers on this day.

Kay said...

That, is, of course, the NBG---hard to concentrate with tears in the eyes.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

A press release just out from DGIF contains this statement: "Biologists with the VDGIF, CCB, and the staff at NBG will continue to monitor the nest and are working to ensure the health of the eaglets."

Okay, I am getting up from this computer! Can't stand it! I will be back in a bit! Have a good afternoon (as much as possible) my wonderful eagle buds!!

glo said...

I am beginning to think eagle cams and Kleenex belong together. I am grateful for the most recent press release however. They will do what is best for the health of the eaglets. I had not doubt that they would and that is a source of some comfort.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

On a much happier note, it looks like Po has drug some bamboo on top of the hammock supports with him!! What a little guy!!

Mema Jo said...

The cam is up now and wide range view. I know in my heart that at the least disturbance those 3 little Rebels will be safely at the Wildlife Center with Buddy.

This is putting a lot on the dad at NBG... But it just may work.

hedgie said...

Heavy hearts, tear-filled eyes, for us all. RIP, sweet Mama eagle. But we can take comfort in the fact that her young will not be abandoned. If Papa can't do the job, the biologists there will take them where they need to go, whether it's Wildlife Center of VA where Buddy is, or Blue Ridge Wildlife Center---which, BTW, has a unique flight cage. It is round so that the raptors don't have to stop flying...they should all be like that.

glo said...

Yes there is comfort in knowing the nest will be closely monitored and the right decision will be made as time passes. I think they will give Dad a chance now given their age etc. He might be able to pull this off if survival of the species kicks in and he heads to fish etc. Hate to say it but I think eventually Belle knew she had to go get the fish herself. But these ones are old enough to maintain their body heat and to my knowledge there is no intruder near by that would feel threatening to Dad if he leaves to go fish. Just thinkin outloud Blog style.

Robyn said...

Glo and the good news is the weather will only get better sure there will be rain and wind but the harshness of winter is long past now...

glo said...

Yes RobynThat is more good news. We need good news.Dad has been spotted 2 trees away. Bless his heart. I wonder if he knows well how very full his tallens our and his loss of his Mate :-( Makes me cry too as I also wonder if Belle has any similar kinds of info and did when she finally left to try to get food herself.

Red said...

Nature watching is usually very rewarding but things happen that we as humans find very upsetting but the eagles will continue to survive. Another mate will be found and life goes on. I'm not saying they don't mourn a loss but I think the desire to get over it and move on must be greater than ours. I hope you know what I'm trying not so good the say.

Now Duncan and I have a cake in the oven thats almost ready. Tomorrow is Mrs Red's birthday.

Red said...

Don't all you English teachers put a grade on my last statement. I think I would fail the wording and spelling.. lol

glo said...

Yes Red you are trying to encourage all of us that Dad will step up to the plate as survival for the young kicks in inspite of his loss. I think that is true but not sure he can feed 3 eaglets at this age and growing quickly, all by himself. I guess MTBR on that one. Even humans who lose a mate before childrearing is complete will usually kick in and care for their young. I think Dad will do what he can. And yes I also think like Mom that in the future he will find a mate and perhaps stay at this nestsite. Although I have to admit its a beautiful location but gosh its sort of dangerous for trips to the river across a runway.

glo said...

Why I respect Reese

"“It’s about like losing one of your kids,” Lukei described."

He loves more than his job. That is good. It is very good indeed.

glo said...

Experts confirm and plans to monitor for health of eaglets etc.

Red said...

I can already see some politician trying to pass a bill that bans eagles from building nests within 5 miles of an airport. lol

Good evening,

Just looked in to catch up before my night class comes in and I saw the sad news about the Norfolk eagle. How awful. I am relieved to know that the biologists there will see that the eaglets will be take care of.

This has not been a good year for eagles, at least not for the ones we watch.

stronghunter said...

Good Afternoon,

Certainly shocking news about the NBG female, my heart breaks for those who follow the nest.

It's certainly nice to know that they will at least give Dad a chance before they remove the eaglets.

And I hope Dad can find a suitable mate in the future.
