Monday

New week thread.

Update:  This morning a gentleman dropped off at the NCTC gate an injured adult bald eagle.  The bird had been hit by a car near Harper's Ferry.  We brought the bird over to a wildlife rehabilitator in Keedysville, MD.  The bird stayed calm in the car, and was able to hop out of the transport carrier.  Looked like a leg injury, but it could not fly.

Just wanted to let you all know that Tara's dad was taken off the vent at 9:50 last night and went peacefully at 6:30 this morning. She said to tell you all she was really grateful for your prayers. I have no doubt the prayers played a big part in the "peaceful" part.

HAPPY WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!!!!

Hi Lynne,

Please let everyone know that my Kristy just gave birth to a little boy. 3.3 pounds. Everything is good. He came out crying and breathing on his own. Not a bad weight for 29 weeks , 3 days.

We are not allowed to go till tomorrow but Kristy phoned just after her water broke and right after she delivered. She was calm as could be. Mom was a wreck.

Her fiancée got to cut cord and then he went with doctors to preemie unit. Everything looks good and I have all of you to thank. Prayers help move mountains. And yours helped bring us an EAster miracle.

God Bless You all

I hope to be back on blog soon.

Hugs

Bev

OH, and CONGRATULATIONS you are the latest recipient of the POOP SHOOT FACIAL!

Lori, last year they laid their first egg on April 18! Wish I knew for sure if it was the same pair....

Bringing these over:

Margy - did you say the other day you have never seen a red headed woodpecker? I have seen 1 and he landed on my garage roof peak twice on the same day - the most beautiful, glorious red on his head that you will ever see and will never ever forget!

Hey Lynne GREAT news about the baby!

Pretty cool about your baby bluebirds - or soon to be. I could watch bluebirds forever. They are so cute and what gorgeous coloring.

So sorry to hear about Tara's father. That's a difficult decision but one he was probably grateful for.

Good morning!! Glad everyone survived the stormy weekend.

Put a GPS on the birds Lynne!

Lori O. said...

LOL! Isn't there a book on Banding Bluebirds? :)

Lynne2 said...

I probably could get the birds banded...there boss at Irvine has a banding license, i think, as does one of my cooworkers.

Lori O. said...

There's a special license needed to band birds? That's great.

Congrats Bev on the birth of the precious baby. God is so good.

Good morning again everyone! Congrats Bev on the grandbaby! Many prayers for sure!!! Hope everyone has a good day. I have already showered and been to Walmart this morning!!!

My question, is the facial 'applied' by a bird or do you put it on yourself?
Just saw my male towhee, now all I need is the catbirds and phoebes.

I'm back and so pleased to know Bev's grandchild has arrived and is doing so well. Thanks, Lynne2 !

Sharon, will be thinking of Tara and family as they begin to reflect and celebrate her dad's life. He's received the ultimate promotion and suffers no more.

One life ends and another begins. The cycle of life goes on.

Kay said...

Sharon, congrats on the PSF ! So, in answer to Megan's question, was it delivered by a bird or in a special delivery packet for application at your convenience ?

Kay said...

Sissy Bev, so glad you took that shower before going to Wally World. I'm sure you've all received those grotesque pics of WalMart shoppers---some of them haven't seen the inside of a tub in ages ! I no longer even open em' if I can tell what they are by the subject line.

Kay said...

HAGD, Lori and thanks for the big hug earlier ! A good way to start the day !!!

Lynne2 said...

Yes Lori, bird banding is a pretty delicate thing to do and because there are laws protecting all songbirds, you need special training and permission.

MY towhee is across the street, singing his little arse off. I never see the towhees with the exception of the Great Blizzard and then one afternoon while I was outside reading several years ago. I've seen the Pheobe, but no catbirds yet in song or sight. And no Wood Thrush yet either.

Kay said...

Now, good news for y'all. I'm going to shut up and just lurk as I begin to putter around the house.
Happy Eagle watching ! ♥♥♥

Lynne2 said...

woops, I was wrong, just found a nature journal that I started last spring and forgot about....DUH. And rechecked my pictures...first BB egg last year was on the 16th of April.
Other things....first time hearing Wood Thrush was on the 29th of April and first Toad seen was on the 30th.. I'm going to do better this year taking notes!

hedgie said...

Catching up with you early-birds!
Still on old thread.
Lori, I guess my mental health is in the sewer----I go weeks without ANY hugs. Hardly ever see my favorite huggers. :(
KayIM....great relations with my girl's in-laws, too....we're all a bunch of huggers and kissers! I've always been thankful for that.
BTW----this group is the same way!!

Thanks, Robyn, for update on Anne Marie. What a busy gal!!

Margy, it's Bob Seger that the southern delegation is going to see. Lucky gals---he's one of my favs!

ahhh Sharon, I saw Bob Seger back in the 80's when I was in Canada. Saw him at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. There was so much weed being smoked there that I got high on second hand smoke. lol

Sharon, so sorry about your friends father. Prayers for that family.

Lynn, so sorry about Christie's money woes. Laurel still can not write checks because of someone stealing her personal info. They have tried to get it straightened out, have the police report, but it is still a mess.

Lynne, how exciting to spot the eagle.

Lolly said...

So, after dozing outside and then sleeping before going to bed, I then slept 8 1/2 hours last night! This is not me! Hopefully today will be better.

Going to spread mulch today. Do not like this job, but it has to be done. Gardens are looking good. Took pictures Saturday of the roses on the fence. Will let you know when I get them loaded.

So, now I know the secret to keeping my cam going for a long time. Yea, me! Slow learner!

And, (((HUGS))) for you, Lynn!

Lolly, I hate the SMELL of the fresh mulch!! And must wear gloves, or end up with many tiny splinters!!! Luckily, I've mostly been able to have someone else do the work! It takes 4 pick-up loads to do what I do.....and this year is the year to have it done again.

It IS a good morning...my new porch is in the making. Old porch took 3 hours to tear down and they found the squirrel nest...POOF!

THIS COMMENT IS FOR BEV:
My first grandson was born at 28 weeks and weighed 3.5 lbs. He was in the NICU for 6 weeks. He is now 23 years old, 6ft. tall and weighs 200lbs. His health has always been good...never missed a day of school in 12years and never missed a day of college in 4 years! He comes to see me every Friday and has a VERY hearty appetite, AND, he is quite handsome, if I must say so myself:)
So, don't fret over the size and weight of you new grandson, he will be just fine and we will all pray for him to be able to go home with his Momma & Daddy very soon♥

Gosh took Dex to Marina to walk and get some photos of flooding and we couldn't walk. Road is closed to get through but found a place to safely park for some photos. He is not so happy with me but if you can't get to the parking lots you can't leave the car unattended so...Then we came home and i was going to fix it with a ride in the stroller. Got him buckled in and out of the garage when 2 stray dogs went by. I can't take a chance trying to stroll Dex with stray dogs running through so unbuckled him and we are in the house. I gave hm a treat but my usually smiling dog is kind of sulking beside me on the couch right now. I will try to fix it again later if it doesn't rain.

When we put the boat in the water Saturday, I saw 3-4 osprey! I was so excited. We were so busy and the weather was nasty, so we didn't get to go for a ride. When we went down yesterday to put the top on, I saw 2 osprey! They are really growing in population on Claytor Lake. Can't wait to go to Dublin Hollow and see the bald eagles. We have been looking for them for years on that lake, always in the wrong direction!!

Lynne2, thank you for the happy news from Bev. God bless that little one--he and his family are in my prayers. Bet that Bev can hardly wait to hold him! There's nothing quite like a brand new little person! :o]

Sharon, great Trainiac video! Your face looks great, too--must be the PSF! Seriously, though, glad you're all healed up.

Glo, sorry your plans with Dex got messed up. Darn it, WHY do people let their dogs run loose?! Hope you are able to go for a walk later. Give Dex a hug for me, please, and tell him that Emma says "Hi!"

Well, I have a LOT to accomplish today, so better get a shower and get going. Will check back in later. Have a great day, everyone!

Kay said...

DanaMo, apparently the fellow had a "transport carrier", one for a large dog would do the trick, I guess.

I think Steve or others at NCTC would have recognized Lib, signs of a brood patch, etc.. So, it must not be him. NBG says automobiles and airplanes are two of an eagles worst enemies.

Sharon, thanks for posting the obit for Tara's dad. I can picture much of what is happening for the family there. My son and dil both teach at Rutgers in New Brunswick and live in Highland Park. The hospital is the one they've used several times in the last 11 or 12 years as it's just about two miles down the road from their town. I've been by the hospital and that cemetary many times. I like the way he was described---you just know by reading it that you'd have liked the man ! So nice that you have first hand memories of just how pleasant he was.

Good afternoon! So, here I sit with ice on my back. Never did spread mulch. My back has just been on the edge of a spasm. Maybe tomorrow!

I want you to go to my blog Eagle and Panda pics. Jack does flag search competition. He found that picture on a flag. Printed and gave it to me. Said it could be out motto! LOL

Kay said...

VW Dana, how I wish I could say something to make you feel better. The only thing I know from my own experience with losing Stan is that while you'll always miss Ed, your days and weeks will get better. You'll be able to smile in remembrance of good times shared and put all the ugly stuff about the way he suffered behind you. Is there a widow/widowers support group where you are ? I never felt the need, but am a strong believer in support groups. My prayers are with you and here's a big hug, {{{{{{{{Dana}}}}}}}♥♥♥♥

Lolly said...

Kay, have you "walked"?

Sad about the new injured eagle. Harpers Ferry to NCTC is not too far and he apparently did not know where else to take it. Drove that road a few times last Fall.

Lolly said...

Shhhhh! Do not tell Lynn, but my cam has been going 7 hours and 30 min.

Kay said...

Lolly, that flag is too good ! I wish Lib would all of a sudden descend on Truder with an axe like that----oh, just enough to scare him out of the territory for good !

Sorry your body is crying out in agony after the mulch spreading. Did you take a walk today---maybe you just did too much. I took the mile walk and it felt good. I've been such an avid walker that I can tell I'll move on to 2 miles very soon. However, for this week, at least, I'm sticking with 1. I don't have the ball weights she touts, but used my standard little weights. Anyway, thanks for all the info and for getting me enthused about the program !

Kay said...

Oh, yes, and Lolly, can you tell me how the "stretchie resistance band" will be used ? Do you use props on the 2 mile ? I could view it all ahead, but why, when I have you to ask ? LOL

JudyEddy said...

Have been checking out the albums in Momster albums Really great pictures I created one for our young man to see the correct way that Lib would do it Maybe he'll take notes LOL BBL

Kay said...

Lolly, sorry I didn't read more carefully. I now see that you didn't spread mulch after all. When did this back spasm thing start ?

Kay said...

Now that is quite the avatar, JudyE. ☺

Kay said...

Lolly n' Lynn, are you keeping the cam going for those long hours with no refresh needed ?

Lolly said...

Kay, when I start the cam and it stops at the 14 min, I then click one time the play button in the lower left had corner. It takes a short while, but it starts up and runs all day.

Yes, I walked today. In the 2 mile walk you use the stretchie. Did it today. We always do the 2 mile walk.

I have always had back problems. It just comes and goes. Not sure why it was hurting today.

Liz said...

Lolly, I do that too, I thought everyone knew that trick.

JudyEddy said...

Regarding cam not refreshing I haven't had to refresh once I think I figured it out I open many windows IE for different cams etc, well by accident on several occasions I noticed when I didn't refresh after about an half hour or so the camera turned in to a BEIGE SCREEN WITH A BIG ARROW well once you click that arrow you are good to go for days Now what I do is I always open an extra cam to wait till the beige screens shows up and then use that camera and off course I always have one on the back burner in case something happens and I oops x out or something else happens sometimes after a day the camera freezes up and then that when I use the one on the back burner and then the other camera will in turn do the same thing I hope you can understand what I am saying Right now my camera has been running since 6 this am Let me know if you can't understand JUST let camera expire and let turn to beige screen while you refresh one to view OK I hope that covers it now to go find food BBL

I emailed Peter at Potomac Valley Audubon Society about the injured eagle. Here is what he replied:

I heard about today's injured bird from two different people this morning. Apparently it had been feeding on a deer carcass in the road when it was hit. Several people stopped to help and one couple wound up taking the bird to NCTC. I talked with them afterwards; they said there were two other mature eagles at the same site, along with a bunch of vultures. Only the one bird was hit.

I've been having a great time going through albums on the Yahoo blog. It's so much fun to put faces with names and to see what a great time y'all have when you get together. Makes me itch to join in on one of the events and meet you face to face !

Liz, I got 2 pics of the Osprey egg and posted it to Friends of Blackwater on FB if you are on there. Boy, was I ever in the right place at the right time!

So sorry about your back Lolly, I've been ailing myself today, too. Hope you feel better soon.

We have TWO eggs in the bluebird box now!

Kay said...

Lynn, thanks for sharing that report. Can you imagine coming upon that scene ?

Liz said...

Lynne, Good catch of osprey pics!
Hedgie, thanks for the report on the injured eagle.

Liz said...

FYI on Bri Maine nest. Dad has not been incubating the egg at all today, not in the 7 hrs that I have been watching. Haven't seen any eagle there until a few minutes ago, saw an eagle for a few minutes, I couldn't identify it.

KayIM It was mentioned earlier right after I joined last month that they have an open house in Oct so when that date comes closer remember it I'm going to try I go up to NC to see my two best friend and just might drive up Will see Wow construction going on at the White Rock nest

Lynne2 said...

I guess he's figured it out Liz. What a sad end to what started out as a hopeful season.

Liz said...

yes, Lynne, so sad. Trooper gave it a valiant try and has earned his name.

Lynne2 said...

Just wondering....

<b href="Will there be a nest visit in June this year even though we don't have a fledgling?<b/>

...might be a good time for the Matriarchs of the Blog to think about that?

Lynne2 said...

ok clearly I have already forgotten how to do bold letters. UGH

Lynne2 said...

Trooper he is Liz!

Lolly said...

I do hope some of you newbies can make it to open house. I will not be there this year. Just can not swing traveling across the country two years is a row! However, if you go you will be rewarded with one fantastic time with the greatest group of people anywhere!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Absolutely we need a nest visit. Jo and I were speaking of that the other day.

We came for the eagles and stayed for the friendships we made!

TEAM LIBERTY!!!!

Lolly said...

Excuse me Lynne! But I am laughing. (((hugs)))

Liz said...

Trooper of Bri Maine has earned his name......likewise Truder of Shepherdstown has earned his. LOL.

Kay said...

JudyE, wouldn't that be great ! We really do need some Newbie representation there. I'm sure the Matriarchs must love introducing new members to the beauty of the nest and surrounding countryside.

Lynne2 said...

well Lolly, when you are done LAUGHING, maybe you could help me out with that! LOL!

hedgie said...

Andy, sorry you have to wait so long for another break. :(

Great pic/flag, Lolly and Jack!

Congrats to BWO and Lisa!!!

I, too, have found IF/WHEN the cam stops, if it's the beige screen with the arrow, then that keeps it going until I shut it down.

Lolly, pray that the fires burn out STAT!

News says that the weekend tornado numbers are the highest ever recorded,

Kay said...

Trooper really tugs at my heart strings ! I do hope he has better luck, nest mating, nesting and brooding season. He gave it his all !

Lolly said...

Lynne, < b >to make it bold < /b > Do this without the spaces.

Lolly said...

Thanks, Lynn! Prayers are needed. Just now watching the news and the fires are approaching more houses.

Lynne2 said...

Thanks Lolly!

I really hope the fires stay away from you guys. Are they making any sort of predictions about them?

Lolly said...

No, they are not making any predictions. But, it is so scary to watch. The local news is covering not much else...they have cameras out there to watch it live.

Lolly said...

This is the area that is burning. They say the State Park is charred.

Possum Kingdom Lake

When we were young, had a boat, we skied here all the time.

Kay said...

Lolly, it's so sad to thing of that beautiful park being charred. I spent a lot of time in Pilot Point and McKinney as a kid---never heard about there being such beauty within easy driving distance.

Kay said...

It's also sad to "think" of it....

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Okay, Sissy is back in the ER. She developed a severe pain through her upper abdomen into her back. X-ray shows free air under her diaphragm. Not sure what the plan of action will be but will let you know.

Kay said...

Get ready for the birds because I'm bowing out for a couple of hours. ☺ BBL

Lolly said...

Sharon, prayers going up for Sissy right now! (((Hugs))) for both of you!

DanaMo said...

Prayers to everyone who needs it. You all are my special intentions when I say my prayers at night. I have a hard time keeping track of everyone but know that I pray for everyone in the group.

hedgie said...

Please let her know that my prayers are going up fast and furious.

Judie said...

Hello everyone.

Lolly, hope you get to feeling better but more important I sincerely hope the fires will stay far away from you and Jack and Camp Hawkwood.

Sad about the inevitable abandonment of the incubation at Maine. Knew it was coming but hoped it wouldn't.

Sharon, my prayers are with Sissy and with you. She'll be fine. Keep the faith, girl.

Hoping the injured eagle will be able to recover.

Not completely caught up but am very, very tired tonight. Will be back to turn on the night light.
