Severe Tstorm watches west of you Diann.

ooooo, I got wax and a Fishycure!

Lynne2 said...

not looking like it's really heading your way though.

Kay said...

Glo, you are a Videographer Extrordinaire !!! Thank you for capturing the power and might of Ol' Man River when he overflows. Amazing.

In the 60's and 70's I drove over THE river, usually at St. Louis several times a year going back and forth from Columbus to Tucson. Every time the kids and I would belt that song out at the top of our lungs !

hedgie said...

CarolAnne.....did you witness it with your own eyes???? Wow!!!!
Nice to see you back!

Glo's house isn't real close to the river, but it is her town, Diann!!

Red said...

I hope you keep the stink bugs up there. We have enough insects that hang around here already

Lynne2 said...

I'll bet you do in that climate Red! I hope they never get down your way.

hedgie said...

Kay, you have email.
Shar, you do, too!

glo said...

Thanks Lynne 2 and PA Nana For letting me know you watched the video and saw the flooding photos. I live aobut 5 mins from the river which I dearly love. Good news is its all up hill :-)

PA Nana said...

Ewwwww, Lynne. Just found another dead one.

Yes Lynne, the western counties are under a severe storm watch. About 40-50 miles NW of us as the eagle flies.

the L of V are light pink, I'd said, but they sure smell good! If you're ever up here, stop by and I'll share with you or anyone else. Have white ones too - everywhere! They both were given to me many years ago.

Just heard we had a Hawk fly over our side yard. No wonder there aren't any birds. No one got a good look at it so don't know what it was.

glo said...

OOOOPS Sorry Kay. Didn't see you had stopped by to see the video /photos too. Glad you enjoyed them. Its a wonderful place but gets out of hand to some extent every spring. Davenport suffers badly because they refuse to build a permanent levee. They want their natural waterfront, but it does indeed cost them yearly. Some years more than others.

Kay said...

Lynne2, back a few you mentioned serenity, reminding me of the prayer we all know so well:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Thanks for bringing to mind a thought I need to practice far more often !

Shirley, I also gained inspiration from you today as you quoted The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

"Knowing" you all enriches my life each and every day !♥♥♥♥

Lynne2 said...

I know, it is a very inspiration, supportive place, this blog!

hedgie said...

Who mentioned the silver maple helios? Is that the only maple tree that has them? I don't mind them too much. The oak pollen threads are what I hate....but I can't see which oaks they are on....I have many types of oaks----and lots of those stupid things that make a terrible mess---and I am very allergic to them!

Lynne2 said...

ARGH! I forgot to write down the day I saw 4 BB eggs....anyone remember?

There are 5 now, but the 5th would have been laid the day after the fourth. HA...how's that for MATH! I forgot to write in my nature journal but other than that, I've been doing pretty good

PA Nana said...

Lynn, we have a BIG silver maple tree in our back yard. It sheds its buds and then the "heliocopters" start falling everywhere. We've had many a little tree that had to be pulled from our gardens. Hard to keep caught up with them but am thankful for the shade in summer.

Kay said...

There are several huge Black Walnut trees on this property. One is close by and litters my deck with one thing or another Spring, Summer and Fall ! I love trees, but some are most definitely better than others !

Kay said...

How about those two big eyes staring out of the nest right now ?

Red said...

and if you look close and have an imagination you can see a faint smile. lol

Red said...

Sound is intermittent.

JudyEddy said...

What a nice day I had at Busch Gardens need to get a showere before storm hits took over 300 pictures WOW BBL

Kay said...

I see it, Red ! ☺ Yes, that sound fluctuation is a bit annoying.

PA Nana said...

Okay, took another pix of my bleeding hearts, but it's a bit blurry. I'll try again tomorrow.

JudyEddy said...

So sad about the eagle that died is that the eagle that got hit by a car???? saw on the front of blog.

Kay said...

JudyE, yes, that's the eagle. Apparently internal injuries were quite severe. Lynn said that was the worst possible scenario and she was right. 300 pictures ! Looking forward to seeing some of them. ☺

PA Nana, those Bleeding Hearts are lovely !

PA Nana said...

There's a falcon about to break through the egg at Harrisburg.

hedgie said...

LOL, Kay and Red......the eyes and smile look very mysterious!!! Maybe it's an eagle version of the Mona Lisa!!!

Thankfully, no black walnut here. Had them at our first house and driveway was a perpetual mess!

Yes, JudyE, that's the one that passed. Glad you had a fun day with Jordyn.

Diann....love the Bleeding Hearts!

Lynne2 said...

JudyE glad you had a great time today!

Love the bleeding hearts Diann!

Beechnut tree is my nemesis....Oh, it's a beautiful big old tree. Rust colored leaves right now, green later in summer and bright yellow in fall! It's the only tree close to the house, and it's REAL close. And sadly, I think that's where the SBs lived in summer. Our bedroom window is next to the tree. That seems to be the window of SB opportunity, so to speak. But we see so many birds in it, especially in winter when the leaves are off as they wait their turns to hit the feeder in the kitchen window below. But boy, it a messy dang tree!

PA Nana said...

Hmmm... I'm sure I saw a pip and a little beak peeking through but mom turned the egg opening toward her.

Lynne2 said...

Red, what kind of flower is that? So pretty!

PA Nana said...

Must've been seeing things with these old eyes.

stronghunter said...

Hi,

Got the paperwork from the doctor's office and picked up the cat food and medication from the vets. When we got home, the house washer was here and we had to rush around and finish taking off window screens so he could get the windows.

The poor critters were a bit worried about all of the strange noises and smells.

I did not know he was coming this afternoon, but wasn't really surprised. Now the outside of the house is nice and clean.

Some pictures Glo!

hedgie said...

Glo, I left comment on the video on FB yesterday or Sat.!

Shirley, I'm sure it feels good to have that job finished!!! I need mine washed down and then the log treatment applied. Last time it cost me $2G's.....checking in to a group called CollegePro.com.....sounds like it might be the way to go.

stronghunter said...

My house is vinyl. It cost $195.00. The guy gives a discount to people in the neighborhood. The house was not too bad this time, but it is nice to have it done.

stronghunter said...

I will need to put some waterproofing on the porches, but I can do that myself.

Good Evening Everybody. Did some chores, then took a Panda nap & now laundry is working. Kitty came up from basement & I thought she put clothes in dryer. NOT!!
Sorry to hear about all the SBs.
Lynn, I mentioned the maple keys. All the different maples around here have them. Silvers are larger than reds. What a pain.

JudyEddy said...

If anyone wants to see the video of Belle short visit I posted to Face Book
I also have my face book link on my profile if you want it BBL LM

Hoda said...

Thanks Paula for the article, it read like a real story for a novel also thank you for the news of Mema Jo's grand kids...what a wonderful opportunity it all is and it will be fun to hear how they were with it...at least I hope Mema Jo says something about it...

hedgie said...

Raining here......any place else?
Watching DWTS and just finished paying bills. UGH!

hedgie said...

Hoda, Jo lives in MD. Her granddaughter and g-sil and gg'kids are up from Ft. Bragg in NC and went to yes, THE White House!

hedgie said...

SB count at 4 for the day inside.

Paula, I was wondering about BEagle a couplke of days ago...don't have an email addy for her.

paula eagleholic said...

I just checked, and I do have email address. I sent her a note.

hedgie said...

Oh, good grief. Nobody can get it right. Belle was NOT abandoned. Her "husband" was assaulted and chased away......by the "suitor". She got it right later but why start out with a fallacy??? Journalists today need to go back to school.

hedgie said...

Oh, good, Paula, thanks!!! Hope she is okay.
Things suddenly got lighter at nest....but not as in nightlight!

hedgie said...

Thanks, Lowreeda!!! Imagine I have several varieties of maple---only know that I don't have any reds or Japanese!
LOL....you need to train that cat better!!

Good evening everyone - breezy out but no rain even though that is what it feels like.

I don't have any real comments yet
about Egg Roll since Bragg Bunch are driving home - should be getting there soon. I know it was
extra hot and their tickets were for 12 noon. I am thinking they should have also been hungry. The cam was very clear that covered the grounds but I just didn't see them on it. Hoda the military
received tickets and since the kids were coming up to MD they decided to ask for them.

Thank you Mema Jo about your comment on the egg roll. God Bless the Military and all who serve in it. The kids are fortunate to go to the White House. I visited it when I was an AFS student and contiune to feel it was a very special opportunity for me. I hope they enjoyed them selves and I am glad they got the tickets to attend.

That's nice they got to go, Jo. Bless them!

Lolly said...

Hi all! Well, I did jinx the rain. Shame on me! It went south of us this time. We did not even get 1/10th of an inch! Laurel on the other had spent from 3:10 to 4:00 with her students in tornado positions. She said it was NOT fun. Joey, at home with the boys and Bosco went into the closet under the stairs with Bosco. They could not find Isabelle the cat.

Finished putting out the mulch and then worked in the front yard.

Then we got a call that they would like to install our carpet tomorrow not Wed. So, we have been dismantling the house. Groan! Oh, they will move the furniture but we have had to dismantle the entertainment center that Jack built, take books off the bookcase, etc! More fun!

We have had bad weather all around, a tornado near us BUT we did not get anything.

hedgie said...

Goodnight, Judie, Lynne, and Red.

hedgie said...

Sorry the rain was a fizzle, Lolly, but GLAD that the bad stuff stayed away!
Don't you hate that rushed feeling of having to do something before you planned on it???!!!

The glare from the computer still hurts my eyes...pupils are still big and black:) Didn't have time to get new glasses, had a doctor appt. at 2:15 (left the ophthalmologists at 1:50)...got to that appt. right on time. Had about 20 bumps removed from my chest and had two on my forehead re-done. Yes, LYNN, it was Dr. Hurst. Felt a bit weird baring my my "girls" (partially) for such a good-looking man;) Need more done later:(

My sister, Sharon, and hubby Dan will be here Friday. They are in their RV and traveling with another RV. Have not met these people but they will be here with Sharon and Dan on Friday. Nice that my house is torn to pieces! Trying not to panic.

Will work on cleaning the patio tomorrow while they are installing carpet. That gives me Wed to get the house back in order, Thurs to mow, and Friday cook. Yes, I can do this! I am woman! LOL

Actually, I know Sharon and Dan will be here Friday. The other couple may not be here until Saturday. Will be busy this weekend.

Going to read now. Time to put my feet up and relax.

I'm enjoying all the flower avatars, too! I'll have to look for one of my own.

Think I'm going to get some transcription done. It's pretty quiet here at the moment, so it's a perfect opportunity.

Judie, thanks for the night light!
Hope you've been able to wade through all the papers to grade.

Prayers being said for everyone here--especially those in need of healing. Prayers for those dealing with nasty storms, too. The eye-scanner security and WV Dana's thumbprint-scanner security are enabled. I'm checking to make sure the porch light is on. Sleep tight, everyone, and I will talk to you tomorrrow. I am so sorry to read about the eagle, I was hoping it would have survived, but I did find some wonderful news, I kept hearing how osprey's only lived until 8 or so but that is not the truth at all, I read on nat geo and a few other places they can live up to 30 years with 25 years being the avg age.

I hope everyone had a wonderful easter

Good HOT morning Eagle Babes!

Good Morning Eagle Fans !

The nest is dark and quiet as I wait for Barista Lori to officially open the SSCC for the day. I think she's rustling around in there, selecting and preparing "the coffee of the day".

Meantime...

Wanda, what a trying day you had. Hope you rested well and feel refreshed.

Lolly, I'm tired out and need a nap and a fig newton after reading about all the things you must do before your sis arrives !

Robyn, interesting Osprey stats--close to those of Bald and Golden Eagles. Hope you and Tori had a nice Easter !

Margy, "fried potatoes and ramps"--the first I love and the latter is What ??

Leona, hope the cast is on and you'll be rejoining us soon ! Praying for good and complete healing.

Okay, going to see if the door is open....if not I'm off to visit several Osprey aeries and will be back here soon.

Lori O. said...

Heart breaking about the Eagle hit by the car. Devastating really. Why so much bad, sad news for our eagles this year?

Kay said...

Hey Lori ! What a good selection for the day ! I'll go ahead to the Ospreys and be back here when the coffee's done. {{{{{Lori}}}}}♥♥♥♥

Kay said...

Found Isla brooding and looking good on a sunny Scottish day. Finney One, no birds in sight, area seems to be overcast. Finney Two an osprey broods on a bright n' sunny day.

Kay said...

Lori, I'm thinking this is probably a typical year in Eagledom, but the growing interest in eagles and the increasingly better network for broadcasting wildlife news makes it seem like a worse than usual year. Of course, much has gone awry very close to home for us. :(

Lori O. said...

Good Morning KAY!

The Sunrise Sycamore Cyber Cafe is open whenever any early birder arrives! Come on in!

Kay said...

Hmmmm, good ! You've done yourself proud today with this Colombian brew. Great way to start the day !

Did a miss a link for a Glo video? I love her stuff!

Glad you're here early - the eagles swooped in on a surprise wind yesterday - before 6am!

Kay said...

I think our tea lovers should know they're welcome, too. The SSCC always has a tea kettle on the back burner and a nice selection of teabags is available.

Kay said...

Just pick up on a Glo avatarr and go to her blog. You'll find a great video there, showing the flood waters, etc.. Great version of "Ol' Man River" to go with it !

Kay said...

Yes, I saw how early they arrived yesterday and was so glad you were free to do most of the report !

Lori O. said...

Funny you should mention tea - I was thinking about that this morning.

Kay said...

Full sunlight on the nest now, sound cutting in and out.

Kay said...

Lynn made me think of tea when she said she loves it, and hates coffee. I gave up coffee for tea from Winter of 1986 to Spring of2010. Lost my taste for it after a bout with pneumonia. Last Spring I realized my taste buds had changed again when coffee began to smell good and I just had to have a cup. Now I have two mugs each morning.

Kay said...

I drink a glass or two of decaf iced tea a day, year round and other than that it's water, water, water. Which reminds me, how is the diet going---you started one yesterday, right ?

Good morning everyone. I won't get to watch much today. This body is worn out and still have the rest of the kitchen to go! My body aches!

Missed the nest visit! That's been happening a lot on spring break!

Megan-I too am glad all those storms missed us. I hope the ones predicted for this afternoon miss too. We have much to get done!

Pools open, anyone for a swim???

DanaMo said...

What is that green in the nest, at about the one o'clock position? Something brought in or uncovered. Or is it my computer screen?

DanaMo said...

Oh Megan thanks for the stink bug info. I'm going to check your blog. I haven't seen many yet this spring but I know that doesn't mean they aren't lurking!

Kay said...

That's interesting, Megan. So far no stink bugs sighted here, though I know they've invaded Ohio, too. Have you seen any articles on the prospects of importing a certain Asian Wasp who could eradicte SB's ? There was an article in our Sunday paper about it.

floralgirl said...

Oh, and I think Red said they are not in Alabama, but yes, brown marmorated stinkbugs have been spotted and identified in several counties there.
Also, that's a mockingbird singing at the nest, never met a bird that liked the sound of it's own voice so much.

Kay said...

Good morning Dana ! Those green leaves were not brought in by Belle n' T., but showed up once the color came on. Down closer to the 6 spot the dark thing you see is the feather Belle plucked out today.

floralgirl said...

Yes, we have native parasitic wasps here, but they have not able been real successful at killing the invader stink bug. But I'm not real keen on releasing another non native bug to deal with the problem, or spraying any toxin that I can get that might or might not kill the bugs. They think they have isolated the pheromone from the Sb and will be able to use that to develop a trap, like the way a japanese beetle trap works.

Thanks Megan, I was afraid to trust my feeling that it was a mockingbird and appreciate your confirmation.

Dana, good luck with finishing that major project ! You're about a month ahead of Central Ohio in opening the pool. My daughter has one, but it's no where near warm enough yet.

All THREE Finland Osprey nests are currently empty so you can see the mottled little egg that looks like a rock at Finney Two....
very unusual the bird is not on the nest...

BWE still has something koooky on the lens and BWO is thinking, three eggs

How is everyone this morning?
Good, I hope...

Thanks Megan for the weather report, and, for the information on Mr. Galvin yesterday...
appreciate both !!

thnk I need coffee AND tea this morning and plenty of caffeine with both !

Megan thanks for the stink bug info - I'm checking that chart immediately! Little, pesky, crusty, foul smelling, misery making stink bugs!.

DanaMO - I'm up for swimming! Thanks for the invite. :)

Good morning to you Margy, the coffee's still on and hot !

Megan, I thought the same thing when reading about the wasps--not sure I'd like having them around either ! Hope the "pheromone" idea pans out and soon. SB's are not just annoying in households, but apparently very destructive to crops.

magpie said...

Love your bluebird Lori !

magpie said...

like what you said about the mockingbird, Megan....liking the sound of its own voice so much!
They are chirpers for sure!

OH, I have heard towhees and indigo buntings, waiting to SEE them.... (not here, but out in the country...) by the way, hope you get your Brown Thrashers and Catbirds soon.....

Stink bugs are destroying crops and it's going to be an even bigger issue if we don't figure it out quickly. Mid-Atlantic apple growers lost $37 million last year from damage to their crops by stink bugs. They don't even take into account the damage they are doing to vegetable and flower crops.

Happy going on all your projects, DanaMo...
don't work too hard, and make time for some Blog Breaks...

time for me to head to work...
Kay IM, I have that hot cyber-coffee right now!

Two O's at Finland One, One at Finney ONe, and none at Finney Two
one better show up back there soon!

Best wishes for a Good Day, everyone
See you much later on today.

Hope the birds start eating the Stink Bugs very soon, that is awful news about the damage...

thanks for all that Megan, though I wish it were not so !!

too sad, the loss of a child

Hope all you Early Birds have a good day at work and can check back in soon. Guess I'm the only retiree among us, until June 14th.

Ha, that black bird doesn't know it's illegal to take possession of an eagle feather !!! For shame !!!

On to the newspapers and a look at Ospreys and other eagle nests as they begin to greet a new day.

The blackbird is probably saying "Hi, honey, I'm here to feather our nest !", right about now.

Good Morning!

Can't stay long, have to boogie out to work soon, then babysitting tonight.

Margy, I hear a Towhee every single day, all day, right across the street where there is a big field and some woods. Went to look for it last week, no luck.

Lori O. said...

Thanks Margy.
The Bluebird is actually a resident sitting on top of a bird house at home.

Good morning everyone. Getting ready for more storms here today and tomorrow. Sure wish we could send some of this to the area in Texas where they're having wildfires.

Lolly said...

Good morning!

Red, you are getting the storms we had yesterday. Good luck! The fires were rained on a little Sat or Sun, not sure. The fires destroyed 160 homes in the PK area and 2 churches. They think it will be contained or out in another week. It would be nice to get more rain, but todays possibility will be more in east Texas.

Oh, that poor woman and her cats! An alligator! Yikes!

Stink bugs are not here. Oh, we see an occasional one but not the type you have. Thank goodness!

Lolly said...

I am up, dressed, made up and hair in place, ready for the carpet guy! Annie even thinks the house looks strange. Jack removed the mirror off of my dresser and the bed is stripped. All tops of furniture is stripped of belongings. Looks bare!

magpie said...

Wow are we still up and running?

Kay - I think you asked...about ramps...
it is a bulb plant like onion and garlic, but with a character all its own
you can google it and find lots of interesting recipes...

AND, in WV there are Ramps festivals, it is that popular here in West Virginny

Lolly said...

Like getting new carpet, but would like to wave a magic wand and have it done. Also, do not like having strangers in my home. Help! An invasion of my privacy!

magpie said...

Oh Hi Lolly

be carefui, now, no heavy lifting !!!

maybe the carpet guys will un-heave some stinky bugs...

Red said...

Megan, we do have stink bugs in Alabama and they are not a problem but I believe they are not the Brown Marmorated variety because I can remember them from my childhood days on the old farm.

Lolly said...

Good morning, Margy! And how are you this fine morning?

Lolly said...

Just called to get an appointment to get my do done. It is past due! Barbara is going to call me back. Gonna get beautiful and the Beauty shop! Wahooo!

Lolly said...

Same here, Red, concerning the stink bugs. Always have had them...just not the kind they were gifted with in the east.

Lolly said...

Okay, I need to go. Have some more things to remove from furniture. Also, time to read the paper.

Back at'cha later!

Lolly said...

Finished the paper and see that no one has returned. Thought I would take the plunge and see if I get post 400.
