Okay, finally got to watch the video----couldn't get Paula's to play in full on FB. But here I could. And Lori in Maine did get it all!
Saw the Hancock pics....taken at the same time when I was suspecting that it was Lib, but they didn't catch a front view like I saw.
Me too- I only peeked there once, and found that update. NCTC/FWS updates seem to go there before we see them here.
Wow, excellent video of Belle "bouncing" Trudy from her establishment, Paula.
That's the kind of action I was hoping to see earlier. Better late than never, and I doubt that Trudy will be back tomorrow again.
She got some serious talon work in the back, but I think it was the attack on the eyes that really made her take Belle seriously.

I leave for awhile and miss everything. Seen the post on utube. Belle is just taking back what is her. Trudy doesn't seem aggressive to me. Could this be Belle & Libs offspring. I will finish reading every ones post. I just pleased to see Belle take back what is hers.

Thanks to all who posted the videos of Belle and the intruder. I have to admit I felt a bit sorry for the young eagle. Belle really gave her a beating. Hope the intruder will go away now. Don't want to see any injury to any eagle.

Cause of the white on the back. And probably his feathers got pulled out on his head, that's why there is a black spot. Lib has had a few stray feathers here and that, but not that look. I keep repeating that Belle didn't attack Lib, not going to post it again over there.

As Shirly said, there are sooo many new friends on here and so much going on that is not the usual fare for us, that we are having difficulty answering all questions. Hi all...I am also a newbee to this blog...but have been consumed by the EagleCam and your blogs since last Thursday.
I saw the confrontation between Belle and Trudy tonight, and have to admit...my first impression was one of Belle reprimanding and when not listened to, she got firm and kicked Trudy out. I am not authority but gut says this may be an offspring.
Post a typo and see how quickly you get noticed, Christine. Especially if it is a good one.
Paula, the way intruder is acting if it was female the fight could get real ugly between both but she/he is acting submissive and that is what has had me so confused past few days. Belle did look a tad larger but could it be the angle of the cam, maybe Belle is larger. I don't know, I'll leave that to the experts
When I first saw the intruder a few days ago, I noticed the whole head was covered with big black spots.
This one this evening had only a spot on one side of the head.
That's why I was asking if it were the same bird.
We think this may be a 4-year-old, Jayne, and Belle and Lib do not have an offspring that age.
I think I am right about this.
Maybe for the sake of sanity, everyone should stay away from the other forums.
Christine, as far as your theory goes, I mostly defer to Paula. I trust her identification of the intruder's age and sex.
My understanding is that Turdy is not old enough to have lost a baby yet.
But I do agree that at times she seems very interested in Paddy. Maybe she wants to be a mama, and she is checking on the baby. Who knows. There haven't been cameras in eagle's nests long enough to have the answers.
I also thought maybe Turdy just wanted companionship since she is not aggressive at all----thank God. But she has been seen chasing Lib, so again, who knows.

Soup Kitchen was so much fun this evening. We had the children from the Sunday school (the ones that we had the presentation for) helping. Serving food, asking what the guests would like to drink, clearing off the tables, etc.
They were so shy at first, had never done anything like that. Some of them didn't want to serve. Before long, they were arguing over who was going to take the next guest!:) Good life lesson for them. They want to come back!

So, what if Turdy is a young male who is not quite sexually mature, and that is why Belle is fighting her/him and not Lib? Like maybe it is not a threat to Lib yet cause it isn't quite mature . . .

I will look at videos again, and again ,I am no expert and sometimes the cams distort things but in the fight the intruder did look smaller.
And if it is a male, Belle would not want him there either. Her mate is Lib. and it would make sense , why the intruder is not fighting. It appears submissive.
And it would make sense that it chased Lib.
I never go to the chats that are on front of cams. They are all loony.
With the falcons , they just say the dumbest things and never go to the forums where the correct information is.

The other issue on the size, is that Belle was really puffed up tonight, she really looked big. Trudy looked big sitting on Lib's branch.
Susan has posted on FB that her issues at school have been straightened out, and she can graduate this spring. I could not see how they could just decide that a class she took and passed doesn't count anymore.
She was beginning to wonder if George Mason just wanted to hold onto her for some reason. She is ready to be set free!
When TJ gets back to me, or here, we need to let him watch Lori's video, since she got more than I did and see what he says.

Grandson, Brandon (who does not claim to be an expert on wildlife behavior) says the only thing that pops into his mind is that the intruder may be an offspring.

Shirley Has it has been said several times on different thread we've had. 2007 all eggs lost no hatches for our nest.
Susan had already bought her cap and gown when she got a message saying that one of the classes she took and passed no longer counts towards graduation. That left her three hours short. Thank goodness, it has been fixed.

I grew up in Fairfield, PA, about 30ish minutes from the nest. I live in Huntersville, NC now, off Huntersville-Concord road! :) If you've been away for a while it has changed a lot!!

DANA...when Gene and I were at the Nest Site and saw Trudy in the tree top...she looked Huge. Have seen both Lib and Belle in the tree branches and don' recall them looking so big.
Yup, Belle's had it with the intruder, whether it's a male or female...she's had a day or two to rejuvenate, eat, soar, and there aren't any chicks in the nest. She would never act that way...as we saw, with a chick in the nest.
1st hatched March 18, 2006 Bigboy would be this year fully white head and tail 5 years old.
2nd hatched March 21, 2006 MsInBetween same would have fully white head and full white tail 5 years old this March 21, 2011.
3rd hatched March 23, 2006 Spunky same would have fully white head and full white tail this March 23, 2011 would be 5 years old.
The 2007 eggs survived BAD SNOW STORM---WE HAD NOT HATCHES THAT YEAR. Which we make the intruder not fully white head and not fully white tail as we are seein.
Hopefully we will get answers soon. I wonder how many expert biologists have been contacted over this nest?
I noticed that escalated insistence StrongH. She would peck a little then wait patiently for the intruder to leave. Then she would go a little firmer and wait again.
Quite a few times she did that.

I know Wanda when I was there on Saturday that is what I seen too. That is why I am trying to let the people know that are just looking at videos or live feed. That those don't show the real size of the intruder...being there on the ground you see the true size of the intruder being bigger than Belle which also means it is a female.
I am sure it has changed. My mother lived on Gilead Road, across from the elementary school. She passed away in 1993, and I have not been back since then.
My parents are buried in the cemetery at the ARP Church there.
No race tracks for me, but I would definitely do CRC...love Savannah and Derek and their whole set up there....would love to see it.

Yes Pam made it to the nest and saw three eagles soaring, 2 of them closer together and the other a little further out. Nobody in the tree or nest or any tree around there. Pretty quiet day until the altercation tonight and it made up for the whole day.

Yes, Wanda, she was a nurse. She was the "chief" at GM when I went to work there. She retired in '89 and then I was the chief!
Yes, the Doobie Brothers are still alive. I liked them better with Michael McDonald, who by the way is going to be at Wolftrap sometime in the summer.
I really need to go back to Huntersville soon, Christine. We lived there when I was in first and second grades, then we moved away. My parents moved back when they retired, but my father passed away soon after they bought the house.
It is my family homeplace. I am related to the Hunters and Ransons there.

I just feel so behind! Went outside and worked. Then Jack and I sat out by the upper pond and had a glass of wine. Following that we had dinner and then I went and checked email.
I missed all the action. When I finally got to the blog I went from the oldest to the newest, skipping 200 blogs. How did you do that in such a short time? LOL So, I am reading along and thinking "what videos? and what fight?" Man, you snooze you loose around here!☺

I appreciate your coverage of this story. I follow these eagles and I am part of a group called Eaglet Momsters that is devoted to this pair. While some people who do not know any better may think that Liberty is not fulfilling his duty as a male, that is simply not true. In the world of eagles, battles are female/female or male/male. The intruder is believed to be a female, and that is why it is Belle's responsibility to fight. So, the people who love and understand these beautiful creatures know that Liberty is doing exactly what he is supposed to. Since 2006, Liberty has proven to be a wonderful mate and an amazingly tender parent.
Female eagles are larger than males and I'm sure that Liberty's instincts tell him that if he challenges the intruder, he will be severely injured or possibly even killed. He knows that he must survive to produce more offspring.
Humans think that, like them, the 'man' must always do the fighting. Trust me, these eagles know what they are doing.
