Dana thanks for visiting the nest with your experienced eyes. You are very much appreciated.
I'm going to get off before any nest drama begins. I'll make my contribution today by looking up info online to see if I can get anything more to give hope here.
I'll be back with a link if I find anything.
♥ I love you all and this entire, wonderful eagle, eaglet family. Sorry I missed you this morning Margy. Good thoughts & prayers.
Thank you Steve for the new thread. Hopefully this is the thread that says somewhere in later comments: Intruder not in area anymore!!!
Lori thank you for dessert that was very nice of you lady ( :
I do want to tell you Lori when I seen Liberty guiding that female intruder away. I thought of your "stong eagle avatar". I said to myself Lori Liberty is being the "strong eagle" because he is really having to fly hard and fast to guide female intruder away. ( :
Paula, you, my darling, are so special here. I know you hate me writing that, but there aren't enough thank you posts in the world for all you've done through the years. There!
LOL, Megan, it's those poop-shoot facials Sissy gets!!!! Gives the 95 y.o. face the look of under 52!!!
I got lost over there!!! Trying to get a little housework done and pack up Mai's things....difficult when she is watching my every move. I am trying so hard not to cry.
I just talked to our lovely Normabyrd. She is doing well. She goes to the wellness center just about every day and walks. She misses us really bad she said and she loves us.
I just talked to our lovely Normabyrd. She is doing well. She goes to the wellness center just about every day and walks. She misses us really bad she said and she loves us.
Belle is just following her instincts when it comes to the unhatched egg. She will continue to tend to it and roll it, most likely, until it becomes truly obvious it's not going to hatch. off to work...
I am going to share my thoughts. We really do not know what little Paddy O'Joy's fate is but. . . in thinking that our Liberty was gone, that meant that our Liberty and Belle would be no more and that just breaks my heart to even think about. Knowing that Liberty is okay just really lightens this heartbreak for me a lot.
Good morning Have been taking my time and reading through the blog.
Welcome to all the newbies!! Just jump right in....we love it!
Good morning, Sharon. I apologize, you are not mean. I just learned that your Sissy really is ancient....95! Wow! She looks fantastic and understand it is the poop shoot facials. Wow!
Lynn, (((hugs))) I know it is a tough morning for you, but this is what needs to be done. Hang in there!
Yes, that is the big concern now, for sure! I was thinking about painting a fish onto my laptop screen...make it look like a fish in the nest. Maybe by visualizing it there, it will happen! Anything!
Your visit to the nest area was paramount in calming my heart and many others hearts too I am sure. Our minds run to and fro without an accurate update.
Dana, I did some searching for eagle facts, too, but haven't found anything yet. I think we have to remember that there have not been cameras on nests for very long, and that also there are not that many cameras. I expect that not much is known about this aspect of eagle behavior.
One thing Steve mentioned is that the eagle population is growing, and that increases competition.
Good morning everyone. Just got through reading this morning's thread.
I wish Trudy would just take a hint and leave already. But, I'm so relieved that Liberty is fine, just wish he would show Trudy what for and get her out of there!
I have noticed some branches knocked loose at the 6-9 o'clock position of the nest, guess Belle isn't tending the nest much with all that's going on? Did Trudy knock them loose?
I did too Hedgie-Lynn but before I commented they don't regurgitate. I wanted to confirm my thought. Due to some saying that Belle was probably regurgitating food to the chick.
Sharon - Thanks for calling Norma I really miss her too. Hedgie - thinking of you (((Hugs))) Wanda - Great pics of our get together Dana - Your blog's captions with Paddy 'O Joy are very touching.Lori - my cheesecake was twice as good knowing it was a gift from you!
Last evening the area Bird Girl discribes as betwee 6 and 9 is where the intruder came in and hung out for about a minute. Between her and Belle's flapping/lunge I think some branches got dislodged. Trudy then flew off to the right, and as far as I can tell has not been IN the nest since. Yhis occurred just before the rain came, so about 7ish I think.
Ok, took a peek in and got scared at what I was seeing. Glad Belle has left and hope to see a fish soon. Everyone, quick, visualize a fish flopping in that nest. Get that picture in you mind and keep it there!! NOW! Will settle for a squirrel!!!!! Or rabbit!
For curiosity's sake, I went back to Steve's very first post to this blog. ********************************** Monday, March 20, 2006 One Hatched, Two to Go We had our first egg hatch on Saturday. It's been a fun ride here at NCTC watching the adults feeding the first chick on our closed circuit connection.
A bit of excitement today when another adult bald eagle showed up on the nest tree while the male was watching the nest. He became very agitated and called for the female, who hustled back in time for the male to chase the intruder off. Not sure who the visitor was, perhaps one of the kids from two years ago?
Some info I have found so far by getting subscription to Cornell Ornith Birds of NorAmer site:
Physical Interactions:
Most aggression among adults in response to territorial disputes during nesting; among all ages in response to competition for food any time of the year, but especially during winter, and for favorite foraging perches and roosting sites; and among nestlings for food. Territorial Bald Eagles may chase nonbreeders, especially adults, from the territory. Death may occur because of food deprivation or actual physical harassment from older individual.
Actual physical contact rare among Bald Eagles, but can be fatal (e.g., Roberts 1985). In experimental foraging study, pirating aggressor struck by defending conspecific on only 10 of 541 (1.8%) contested foraging events. In Minnesota, a territorial individual struck an intruder 7 times, although without apparent injury. Fatal injury from territorial encounters reported based on circumstantial evidence such as talon-puncture wounds found on dead eagle. At Alaskan communal feeding sites, interaction outcomes governed by size, hunger level, and possibly position (air superior to ground), but not age (Hansen 1986). Fischer (1985) also failed to observe age advantage for piracy attempts by Bald Eagles wintering on the Mississippi River. Knight and Skagen (1988) showed an age advantage only for “smaller” adults in w. Washington, contrary to Stalmaster and Gessaman’s (1984) observation that younger Bald Eagles (immature plumage) were subordinate to adults for the same study area.
Well I have to take the old girl to the vet to have her stitches removed from where they took out the bad fang. Have so much to do this weekend, I can't be glued to the cam and blog all day!
You may hear a slight ripping sound as I tear my butt off this chair I've been sitting in LOL
Have a great day everyone, and fingers crossed for our eagles!
I know this is silly but I have a hard time eating knowing the little one needs food....He looks better today than I expected though, I have to say. Mom's doing a really good job!
I'm not sure everyone read this before so I'll put it up again.
A few years ago I watched the Kent Washington eagle pair (female Star and male Patriot) They had been on a cam for several years and had Star had just layed two eggs. A young male intruder came and attacked Patriot and beat him up pretty bad and he left. Star accepted the new young male (later named "Spriit") as her new mate. However the new male refused to help Star incubate the eggs and they never hatched. We all wondered if he would do his share the following year and to our delight he was a good father too. Mother nature is full of surprises and they are not all nice. Hopefully things will work out here too.
Good morning, was trying to read as much as I could from my droid while making breakfast, fresh ground coffe sausage and eggs now I can read without enlarging print lol.
Lori thank you for dessert.
Jennifer welcome over to momsters
Dana if you want company checking on the eagles I'll get some homework in and head out later
Thanks Red, I miss Kent eagles, I use to watch them all the time, The owners of the property were always helpful and would take some awesome pics of the pair near the water, I was so upset when their home fell apart
Robyn, the Kent pair are rebuilding their nest in the same tree but it's not finished yet. Maybe by next season they will be back in business. I still communicate with Loraine there.
Will she put the cam back up? Back in January I looked for it but found some old posts is all, even my Benita Barn Owls, I lost so many links when my old computer decided its time was near.
Good Morning Red - I remember the Kent nest that year. Yes, Robyn, Loraine and Garry were great at keeping us informed. Your remark, Red "..Mother nature is full of surprises and they are not all nice. Hopefully things will work out here too." Amen
Remember the Pulson cam - his remark always hit home - Nature in the Raw -
Maybe Belle has been feeding small things like bugs and caterpillars to Joy. That is a thought. We have always wanted our eagles to eat Boris. Maybe Boris has been gobbled up.
For the newcomers, Boris is a spider who likes to build a web over the camera lens. Doesn't seem to have been a problem this season so far.
Genie, sun is out a few clouds but no rain in sight until monday but that can always change as it was suppose to rain this weekend. It is a tad windy here today.
@Paula, kudos for being the voice of reason over at OC :)
Thankful that the cam has been zoomed. It helps us to see Joy. It would be nice to have a long view so we can see the other action with the intruder, etc. At least I can wish.
Loch of Lowes - the booklet that is available - Susan last evening had just received her's and it is a beautiful piece of work. Susan has a poem in it entitled Spidey. It was very enjoyable to read!
Bald eagles are territorial, most notably during the breeding season. Both sexes will exhibit defense behavior towards eagles that intrude on their nesting territory during the incubation and brooding periods. The rest of their home range is not defended. Defenses include posturing (e.g., perching conspicuously), threat vocalizations, and sometimes chasing.
Territorial defense generally ceases following fledging of the young, and birds often roost communally at the wintering sites without exhibiting territorial behavior). Estimates of bald eagle territory size vary. In a Minnesota study designed to elicit defensive behaviors, the average territory radius for 10 pairs was about 1,900 ft, which would be approximately 247 acres if a circular territory is assumed.. Stalmaster (1987) indicated a typical territory size of 247 – 494 acres.
BEagle, Belle has been doing that for the last several days...not sure if still doing test runs....or I have heard others say she may be transferring moisture from her beak to the chicks.
I don't know much about eagles yet but I don't think the egg will be bothered. Nature has it's miracles and phenomenon too. Watch out if that egg hatches.
Egg looked weird but I saw some nesting fluff blow in the wind, it is hard to determine what is what due to the colors, it blends then looks like to eyes but the egg still looks whole.
Yes, very hard to tell. I keep staring at it and I think my eyes are playing tricks on me! LOL! I certainly hope it was something she was feeding PJ. I am so worried about it.
Belle HAS to be feeding PJ something....I just don't see how PJ would still be this strong and active on the beginning of the third day without some kind of food.
Quite the alert little chick, very focused on what's going on around the nest...
My guess about the other egg: I think the end toward the camera has pieces of shell missing, and what we're seeing is either the chick's rump or the membrane lining the inside (more likely). Not sure what that is next to the egg, whether it is something separate or the chick from inside.
I think that's either shadows or fluff on the egg. They don't pip out of the end of the end like that, it is farther down the egg shell. We haven't seen any evidence of a pip.
On three occasions when both male and female were near the nest, other adults entered the territory and perched on a small island 300 m from the nest. Size of the intruders indicated that all were females. On all 3 occassions, the male did not pursue the intruder, but the female did.
Paula, I wasn't saying it's hatching, just that the egg has been damaged. But now that some things have moved around, it may just be shadows and fluff as you said.

When Belle was out of nest earlier this morning. Paddy O'Joy was trying to peck at the egg.
Paula, you, my darling, are so special here. I know you hate me writing that, but there aren't enough thank you posts in the world for all you've done through the years. There!
Signing off - looking for expert into now.
Happy, happy birthday Beverly. Treat yourself today like you are your best friend.
Nice outside now, a little windy, but sun is shining and it's 49°
Paula, you have mail
Dana, Thank you. That makes me cry. Your thoughts are beautiful. I know it's nature.
Lib has a huge heart and I know he's in the battle of his life, as is Belle and POJ. Prayers for a happy ending TODAY!
Photos from last night have been posted on my "Just For Fun".
Thanks to my friend fro church, a really nice GROUP PHOTO.
got it Megan, thanks
I made a brief post about the blog and what happened yesterday on the Outdoor Forum.
I believe someone had already posted about it, they are aware that Lib is OK, I think.
I think Robyn posted there last night. But it's good to post again, info seems to get lost over there.
not a link I have proved what I felt found this:
Eagles do not regurgitate food like some other birds do.
I am hoping Belle breaks that egg and feeds it to Paddy O'Joy it is not viable. Paddy O'Joy was pecking at it yesterday.
What I need is not an airplane that won't work. I need a "hand glider" so I can get close enough to nest to drop fish right ito Belle.
Belle was calling out, she's looking around now.
Dana, you have mail
not a link found this about a nest
The last report showed the female turning an egg. This female, however, was a young 4-year-old.
The old female may have died, and the male quickly mated with this one. This is the reverse of the first nesting in 1999 in which the female was mature and the male a sub-adult.
This younger female had a different “disposition” and an obvious lack of experience. She began incubation at the end of February or early March.
In mid-March, observers saw a juvenile eagle land in the nest, which is not unusual. Young eagles return for the first year or two to their nest site, but are usually chased off by one of the parents.
However, the incubating mom was not the juvenile’s mother. The nesting eagle was probably terrified. Dad came in much later and feathers flew as he drove the intruder out.
So again I don't think this is Liberty and Belle's offspring. Cause Dad was able to get to nest or a limb and drove the intruder off.
Belle is up off the chick always has her back to us, not sure what she is doing.
Belle is up..calling out
Yea, I went back a couple of pages and saw that Robyn had posted.
Belle is spending a lot of time with her head down in the cup...maybe dismantling the egg for food? Hope so!!
Good morning on the new thread.
Just saw the top of Joy's head. Belle covering chicklet back up.
I've got to go into work for a couple of hours....will check back in later.
And once again, welcome to all of our new posters!
Oh no, poor Joy just got rolled...too funny!
I wrote to Lisa at Blackwater telling her about what I seen. Here is what she wrote me back:
What would be the possibility of this being an inmature offspring of Liberty and Belle's?
Based on the intruder's actions, it seems like she wants the nest for herself, because she's getting close to breeding age -- like a George and Martha situation, where the female wanted the mate and the nest for herself.
If that's the case, then I don't think it's an offspring. I do believe offspring might visit a home nest, but not try to take it over, drive out the female and take up with the male. If this were common, there would be inbreeding between eagles, which wouldn't be healthy for the species.
Again, this is just my personal guess, but I think the intruder is probably not from this nest.
Seems quiet, hope Trudy is elsewhere!
Good Morning all - Just trying to catch up but thought I best tell you I was here.
I see little Joy just did some bobbling around.
BBILW
See Belle rolling that egg twice.
Belle is really rolling that egg. Is she still trying to hatch it?
Harb. Don't think the egg is viable, now. We are hoping it will be used as food for PJ.
Morning Mema Jo see you when you get back after catching up on comments.
I just talked to our lovely Normabyrd. She is doing well. She goes to the wellness center just about every day and walks. She misses us really bad she said and she loves us.

Hi Eagle people.
WOW
There is real concern about our eagles right now.
I am praying for them. What else can you do?
Well, Dana could get a hand glider and drop some salmon onto the nest.
Someone throw a turtle up there!
Lib and Belle are a powerful team against this abrupt and relentless adversary which happens to be a bald eagle also. We like bald eagles.
I believe our eagles will come out victorious in shooing away the Trudy.
On the scoot.
BBL
It is my guess that we will know Trudy has given up when we see the wushi.
Again BBL.

Good morning everyone! It's taken me an hour to catch up with the comments after 3am on the other thread and this on.
Thanks for all the good info Dana, its hard to believe this intruder just won't give it up!
Love you all and praying for a good outcome today!
BEagle I too feel Liberty and Belle will be victorious in driving off this female intruder.
My worry is for little Paddy O'Joy to get food.
Good morning,
I see things are pretty much the same.
Thanks, Dana, for your report last night.
Welcome to all of the newcomers.
Happy birthday, Sissy!
Yes, that is the big concern now, for sure! I was thinking about painting a fish onto my laptop screen...make it look like a fish in the nest. Maybe by visualizing it there, it will happen! Anything!
(Cannot get away!)
Dana, my thoughts exactly. I think the little one will pull through, just not sure about the unhatched.
Lolly. I have already done visualizing the wushi on the nest. It should work with more than one person doing the same!
Oh! Dana. I am glad Strong mentioned it.
Your visit to the nest area was paramount in calming my heart and many others hearts too I am sure. Our minds run to and fro without an accurate update.
Thank you for doing that. (HUG)
click on my name and go to "Nest of Liberty and Belle"
Paddy O'Joy has something to say!!!

Nice posts, Dana.
Love the messages from Paddy O'Joy Dana!!! Very clever.
Eagle Info
I did find this information on eagle mate selection. The conclusion is that we really do not know.
I think that we have to believe that this is a competition for Liberty as well as the nest.
Okay, link isn't working. It did on the preview. I will try again.
Bald Eagle Information
I agree, Shar.......but still hurts to think of losing Paddy O'Joy.
Interesting reports of other nest intrusions. Already knew that eagles DON'T regurgitate.
Good info on the link Shirley!
I'm searching too.
Good morning everyone. Just got through reading this morning's thread.
I wish Trudy would just take a hint and leave already. But, I'm so relieved that Liberty is fine, just wish he would show Trudy what for and get her out of there!
Good for Norma.......couldn't talk her into getting her computer straightened out, Shar????
I have noticed some branches knocked loose at the 6-9 o'clock position of the nest, guess Belle isn't tending the nest much with all that's going on? Did Trudy knock them loose?
I did too Hedgie-Lynn but before I commented they don't regurgitate. I wanted to confirm my thought. Due to some saying that Belle was probably regurgitating food to the chick.
Sharon - Thanks for calling Norma
I really miss her too.
Hedgie - thinking of you (((Hugs)))
Wanda - Great pics of our get together
Dana - Your blog's captions with Paddy 'O Joy are very touching.Lori - my cheesecake was twice as good knowing it was a gift from you!
Look at Joy under the fluff!! Belle covered him to keep him warm, I guess....it is much cooler than it's been since hatch.
Interesting....PJ is covered by a mat of fluff...wonder if that's just accidental?
I used to brag about getting hours and hours of uninterupted cam coverage - I am only getting 19min
Heehee PJ is pecking at the fluff
Mema, the player is set to pause after 10-20 minutes now due to the volume of viewers...there's a note under the video about it...
Don't know if the fluff is for camouflage or warmth or both!
Thanks Delphia! I think I'll put up the still cam just in case.
Won't miss something.
Delphia the one limb in the nest - not sure how it got there..
Right after midnight I wished Beverly
a good day - but will do it again on
this thread..............
♪♪♫♪♪ Happy Birthday Bev - Make it a very special day for you! ((hugs)) ♥
Lots of sharing with all the info.
Hey, Jo....did you sleep in? Thanks for your loving thoughts.

I know this is silly but I have a hard time eating knowing the little one needs food....He looks better today than I expected though, I have to say. Mom's doing a really good job!
Interesting information, Harbingerdc and Lori.
Get that food there on the double.
Harbingerdc what date did you get that post from please and thank you ( :
Looks like March 20, 2006, Dana.
Paddy's head is up now.
Oh I see it March 20th
Poor baby calling for Mom and food
I'm not sure everyone read this before so I'll put it up again.

Belle has returned - calling out
Screaming eagle and something landed in tree above our eagle. Must be the female intruder. grrrrr
I wished I was down there to see what was going on in top of tree.
I wonder what Belle is doing now.
FOOD!
I refreshed my cam right before time was up and did avoid the ads.
Oh, I did not see the food. What is it?
My cam view had frozen and I had to refresh.
Gee harbingerdc, how interesting....I wasn't aboard back then. Any of you old-timers remember that??????
I thought Belle was tearing something to feed Paddy.
Are you saying Belle came into the nest with food?
I didn't see any food either!
I returned to the cam and it looked like Belle was plucking something but her back is to the cam. I thought she had food.
Now I hear her.
Thanks Red, I miss Kent eagles, I use to watch them all the time, The owners of the property were always helpful and would take some awesome pics of the pair near the water, I was so upset when their home fell apart
Belle calling.
Some more calling out. I remember that post from Steve a long time ago!
Got a quick peek at Joy, appeared to be resting in the cup.
Robyn, the Kent pair are rebuilding their nest in the same tree but it's not finished yet. Maybe by next season they will be back in business. I still communicate with Loraine there.
Belle called out and flew out of the nest again.
And flew right ight back in
Will she put the cam back up? Back in January I looked for it but found some old posts is all, even my Benita Barn Owls, I lost so many links when my old computer decided its time was near.
Joy was sitting up and peeping when adult flew back in.
Conflicting edit.
Belle flew out, Joy sat up and looked around and Belle returned quickly.
Belle was calling then off to the right, Joy was bobbing around, then Belle back quickly from the left, now has Joy tucked in.
It may have been small but I believe Belle fed Paddy something.
Good Morning Red - I remember the Kent nest that year. Yes, Robyn, Loraine and Garry were great at keeping us informed.
Your remark, Red "..Mother nature is full of surprises and they are not all nice. Hopefully things will work out here too." Amen
Remember the Pulson cam - his remark always hit home - Nature in the Raw -
What was that? A goose?
Avatars - Can't change my
Sycamore Nest Tree pic.
It could have been a little frog maybe.
This simply can't last until Paddy O'Joy fledges.
Maybe a caterpillar?
Is that a thunderstorm I hear? Sounds like wind, thunder, and I thought I saw a lightning flash.
Belle flew out again to the right.
Belle flew off to the right. Paddy is watching her with those little eagle eyes.
No thunder here, it's sunny, and 51°, that is the wind you hear, it's pretty windy here today.
Genie, sun is out a few clouds but no rain in sight until monday but that can always change as it was suppose to rain this weekend. It is a tad windy here today.
@Paula, kudos for being the voice of reason over at OC :)
Not sure how it can be 61 at nest and 52 here when I am only 8 miles or so away
Joy looks strong. Must be getting something.
Thankful that the cam has been zoomed. It helps us to see Joy. It would be nice to have a long view so we can see the other action with the intruder, etc. At least I can wish.
Joy is really watching the sky. Very alert and looking up and around.
Does everyone have eyes peeled. When Belle comes back I want to see what she's bringing.
That weather is almost always wrong on the cam site. I have 51°
Loch of Lowes - the booklet that is available - Susan last evening had just received her's and it is a
beautiful piece of work. Susan has a poem in it entitled Spidey. It was very enjoyable to read!
Hey Robyn, your post was well written over there! Glad you did that. I didn't see it till after I posted...
I think that the temp published there is not always correct, Robyn.
Aww. The egg is now a pillow.
Thank you Paula
defensive eagles info
Bald eagles are territorial, most notably during the breeding season. Both sexes will exhibit defense behavior towards eagles that intrude on their
nesting territory during the incubation and brooding periods. The rest of their home range is
not defended. Defenses include posturing (e.g., perching conspicuously), threat vocalizations, and sometimes chasing.
Territorial defense generally
ceases following fledging of the young, and birds
often roost communally at the wintering sites
without exhibiting territorial behavior).
Estimates of bald eagle territory size vary. In a Minnesota study designed to elicit defensive
behaviors, the average territory radius for 10 pairs was about 1,900 ft, which would be approximately 247 acres if a circular territory is assumed.. Stalmaster (1987)
indicated a typical territory size of 247 – 494 acres.
Shirley - for a few years the goal was to have a cam in another tree giving us a full view - I wish now more then ever that it were there!
If the egg is unviable would it still be safe to feed Paddy with?
Could be nourishing creepy crawlers.
More intresting info from Lori and Red.......not terribly encouraging, but informative.
Watch out if that egg hatches.
oh and that was Benicia not Benita
I got ya Paula. It looked like Belle was working with something.
Joy awake and peeping
Is that something hanging out of the 2nd egg or is that just some "flugg"?
Jennifer I can't be certain.. I went full screen but still don't even want to guess.
Incidentally - Looked at your profile
WHoo Hoo Westernport ! Where are you
teaching. Hubby was from Mt Savage.
Certainly pray that this DOESN'T go on until fledging. Afraid that Joy will not make it to that point the way things are now.
Mai is sick......just finished cleaning up. Think she knows something is up.....Lord, give me strength to get through this.
Hello out there. I hope everyone is well. And I hope Beverly is having a wonderful 95th birthday. ;)
One step at a time Hedgie.
We're with you in spirit Lynn. Congrats for being so courageous to do the right thing! You're an awesome lady.
Thinking of you Lynn
I hope Mai perks up...
I don't think that is from the egg. I think its part of what Belle was feeding the chick.
Got kicked off the Internet. Had to shut down and reboot my computer to get back on.
Egg looked weird but I saw some nesting fluff blow in the wind, it is hard to determine what is what due to the colors, it blends then looks like to eyes but the egg still looks whole.
Lynn, I know it's got to be a rough day for you. (((Hugs)))
Joy looks healthy. A real survivor. I have to think Belle is getting some kind of food to him/her.
Our thoughts are with you, Lynn. Prayers and best wishes.
Lori Get your super dupper magnifying glass out and enlarge the live feed - give us a run down on what you see at the egg.......
Great information on radio-tagged eagles with eaglets by researchers. Interesting info could help with some puzzle pieces in our case.
Behavior of Eagles with eaglets
Is it just wishful thinking or is Paddy really growing bigger?
My guess about the other egg: I think the end toward the camera has pieces of shell missing, and what we're seeing is either the chick's rump or the membrane lining the inside (more likely). Not sure what that is next to the egg, whether it is something separate or the chick from inside.
I agree, that chick has to be getting something. Still looks so strong.
Okay, I got out the magnifying glass. I think there may be something going on at the end of the egg. But I though it was hatching two days ago.
Joy looks so strong and active. That is a good thing.
Got a couple of pics. I will post them.
I can't bear to turn the sound on, though, and hear PJ crying...just kills me...
On another note, my rescue group got in a Great Horned owl chick, only a couple of days old. Still all white and fuzzy, just adorable!
I think that's either shadows or fluff on the egg. They don't pip out of the end of the end like that, it is farther down the egg shell. We haven't seen any evidence of a pip.
Hi, Scott.
Makes sense, Paula. I defer to your experience.
I'm so glad Paddy is doing so well. ♥
Anyone know how to make voodoo dolls? We could make one of Trudy and poke it til she leaves. haha
It looks like the egg is still intact, that has to be nest fluff around the side and end of agg. It seems to glow on my screen when I enlarge it.
O'Joy looks like he is a little bigger.
Eagle back on left stump
Is that Lib at his favorite spot?
From the last link I put up:
On three occasions when both male and female were near the
nest, other adults entered the territory and perched on a small island 300 m from the nest.
Size of the intruders indicated that all were females. On all 3 occassions, the male did not pursue the intruder, but the female did.
Lotta work for poor Belle.
ONLY THE SHADOW KNOWS!
Hello and Welcome Scott!
Could the end of the egg have been broken for food? Anything is possible.
The sound - I keep thinking I am hearing eagles' wings at times....
WHO?
Or on the edge of the nest, I think
Who's shadow is over the nest? Hope it's Belle.
Looks like Belle.
That's Belle
BELLE!
Paula, I wasn't saying it's hatching, just that the egg has been damaged. But now that some things have moved around, it may just be shadows and fluff as you said.
Very watchful...hussy must still be there!
Posted a couple of views. I agree that it's just flugg at the end of the egg.
Oh my, that shadow looks interesting.
Hi Wanda & you are so right
BEagle - I so wish It's scary because
it doesn't look like Belle's feathers at the collar Inverted "V" ????
It really looks like an old walnut.
Hello stronghunter and Mema Jo, and thank you.
I just took a look at photos from the other day and Joy certainly is bigger. You can do a comparison with the size of the egg.
Almost split time.
Well, at least we know that IS Belle sitting there.
