Sunday

New thread.

I have gotten inquiries from folks about getting more info on what's going on and also requests that the NCTC do something to assist the birds.

I need to repeat that we all understand that this episode is unsettling to everyone, but it is one of the risks of having the cam in place--you get to see the wonderful things and the not so wonderful as well.

Wild nature is not always a happy place...the best thing to do is not to interfere in any way.

FWS biologists have been aware of this episode since it began and I suspect there will be more information put out tomorrow on the official cam website.

Extremely well stated, Bird Girl
Thank You !

We came for the Eagles but We stayed for the Friendship

Plowhandle you are welcome here, but please don't rile us up right now...because that is really not what we need right now...You might not have a grip on this group and its dynamics and expertise and dedication and devotion...
there are years of history to what is going on with this cam and US -
We are international, now down-home hokey !
Okay?
The Eagle Cam is a gift to us from NCTC and we play a part in its financial support, but NCTC's purpose is far beyond what this cam is all about, we know that...

Bird Girl said...

Yes, exactly, we have to make comments about how we can help the situation to ease our pain and make us feel like we are doing something.

Do any of you remember when I (and some of you, I think) were watching a stork nest in Austria somewhere like that? The little stork chick ended up dying slowly from aspergillosis, and I wrote up about him. I remember joking about the things we could do to help, even from thousands of miles away!

It was heartwrenching to watch that, and yet we still did.

Thanks Delphia!

Lynne2 said...

You know, there is a guy around here who flies in this contraption that has a top like a parachute...kinda like a motorized thing. Well, next time I see him, I'm gonna flag him down and see if he can do a food drop at the nest!

Lynne2 said...

Belle just poofed

magpie said...

that would be NOT down-home hokey, excuse my typo...
not NOW down-home hokey, but we sure can be "Down-Home ♥"

wvgal_dana said...

By this happening it means more eagles are coming back into the area. Which in this area we at one time did not have very many eagles. So this is GOOD that they are coming back into the area.

It will just take time for some to find their own tree to start a nest in and raise their beautiful family.

Hopefully someone will put up a webcam where even this one goes and we can watch her being with a male and fixing up her nest and raising her young. Lord willing it would be nice to watch her raise her young.

Hi Mema Jo,
As you know, I don't post over on Momsters but sure have been trying this morning.
Felt that having one more person in the group with positive thoughts couldn't hurt.
However, I am having trouble with my Google account.
Many of us watching closely at WOW forum as well (name still sounds strange to me.....like it should still be Maine forum bigsmile)\

So fortunate to have so many that live within driving distance to be on site.
Just want you all to know that I will be joining your prayer vigil at noon.
Hope this finds you well.....

Mojita Paula is alive & well & right now is down near NCTC grounds looking for our eagles.

1 Egg in nest
1 Eaglet in nest 3/17 Paddy 'O Joy
1 Belle caring for chick
1 Liberty acting as decoy to our
1 Hussy Eagle (Dirty Bird)

Are you from the IWS forum? Or from where do we know you?

floralgirl said...

Both are on tree Trudy and belle. Belle came flying. In and Trudy followed her

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Now, I am not directing this at any one person in particular but . . .

1. I am grateful that BS weeds itself out.

2. If someone wants "official" reports about the eagles, then probably here is not the best place to check. We post things we observe at the nest. We have spent lots and lots of hours studying every move of these eagles and know the difference between "norm" and "not-so-norm". These eagles and the Eaglet Momsters, new and old, have been a HUGE part of my life since 2006. We have loved each other through eaglets hatching, eaglets fledging, eaglets returning to the nest, getting fed, not getting fed. We have also loved each other through deaths, births, illnesses, sadness, sorrow, joys, triumphs in life. This is just how we roll. If someone is offended because we "humanize this", then I don't know what to say. I am human and I do have human emotions and when I see our beloved Liberty and Belle going through trials, I feel it deep in my soul.

Right now, my 1-legged starling is out here at the bird feeders eating. I always put more food closer to the tree because it seems easier for him to balance himself there. I absolutely love nature and, although I know it is not always perfect, I like to do my part to make it a little bit better.

I have formed some really beautiful friendships right here on this blog and I wouldn't trade that for anything. ♥♥♥ and ((((HUGS))))

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Magpie, you reminded me of this earlier. In my program of recovery, we know that resentments will kill us. Like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die. So, we pray for the person we resent, that God blesses them with the best that life has to offer and eventually the resentment goes away. Well, I have a pretty intense resentment at Trudy and so I pray too that Trudy finds a good mate for her (like Lib, but certainly not Lib) and is able to have a happy, healthy life.

Now, this prayer is a process of moving it from my head to my heart because right now I want to throw a net over her, capture her and transplant her in someone else's territory. But for now, I will pray for her.

@Scott, Paula, Megan and Lori thank you all for being our eyes today and reporting in to us on the blog. What you have done is a wonderful thing. To bring the news to us directly. Hugs to you all ( :

May Trudy keep soaring till she finds herself a male eagle mate. So she can be doing what female eagles her age is suppose to do. Find a mate, fix a nest and lay eggs, incubate those eggs till hatch time, then feed her chicks. Then Trudy will have her own "family of eaglets and a Dad eagle to help her". Please Trudy keep soaring away from this nest. Far away Trudy and may God Bless You with a mate and family of your own to start out with.

Hello momsters and dadsters, and welcome newcomers.

Paula, Megan, Lori and Scott thanks for being our eyes at the nest today. Mom called me earlier to let me know what was going on before they flew out to Biloxi. Told me you all were there and was very happy. I need to keep her updated once a day while they are away.

SO she is still around the dirty bird. I hope belle has been getting some kind of nourishment herself, her priority is partially caring for O'Joy but it is mainly to herself and protecting her nest and territory. I am glad that she got some time with Liberty, at least it isn't playing out like the Norfolk nest did that one year.

RA is kicking in today must be rain in the near future not sure if I will make it to the nest what with school and an exam today but if I can I am going to run down there with my nephew Jason.

Sorry to hear there was an unpleasant visitor but I am sure we all kinda knew it was inevitable. Great thing this is a very close group (family)

Susan and Grey it was so nice meeting you both, Susan I hope my directions to the nest made it to you. Thanks for spending 7 HOURS there I only put 2 in my chickie needed to be fed so I had to leave.

Oh Susan I contacted Jonathan i Scotland I am going to order the book you have for my mom. She told me that so many watchers were writing poems and all and someone mentioned they should compilate them all and make a book :) she will truly treasure it.

wvgal_dana said...

Thanks Lynne2, Patricia, and Loretta I missed that post 1:03 from Paula. That Trudy is back and soaring above the nest. Thanks for helping me out you all. Sad news though.

Robyn said...

Lynne she can come down by me the dirty bird and make her nest along the deep parts of the opequon creek

wvgal_dana said...

I see 1:16 report from Paula

NatureNut said...

Robyn, so glad you contacted Jonathan. I know Susan ordered before me & was some how able to use Paypal. I mailed a check, so know mine will take some time to get here. Chrissy has one of her capture pics in the book! And probably poems!

NatureNut said...

Going outside & still haven't done my work homework!!!

Unknown said...

So according to Paula's last reports, both Belle and Trudy are away from the nest? Now would be a good time for Lib to bring some eats!

wvgal_dana said...

Well I know need to leave it up to the eyes on the ground near the nest. Hopefully all don't have to leave at same time. Maybe Robyn will get there and be our eyes for awhile if everyone else has to leave.

Please keep the comments on here going. So I can read them when I get back.

Prayers for your RA acting up today. I know Diann needs prayers, Judie still needs them but she is doing great. So any other prayers for you too. Prayers that Belle and Liberty can get back to the nest with food. Prayers for our little chick Paddy O'Joy.

So, all this talk about not interfering with nature, but this made the news: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/41947476#41848244

Doesn't make any sense to me. I totally think we, as humans, should help God's creatures when we can.

Robyn said...

Dana I will try my best, Dr just informed me last week they are going to start me on Remicade, just waiting for BCBS to let them know if I was approved, for what I pay for ins they better

Scott said...

Okay, here is my quandry. If Trudy wants the darn nest so bad then why isn't she trying everything that she can to get it? When she lands she is actually submissive to Belle, and just a few minutes ago is a good example. If she wanted the nest while Belle was soaring why did she follow Belle and not go for the nest? I just don't get it....

Bird Girl said...

Robyn, I can empathize with you. I have had fibromyalgia for 22 years, and have been on disability for the last 4 years as a result. Rain really bothers me too! Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you IrisF. The picture is the profile on my own blog. Didn't know until today that all I had to do to comment was log in to my own blog.
Scott: I completely agree with you. Why does the Intruder not attack Belle but chases Lib off? Does she think Lib is the threat to the nest and trying to protect the nest? Hmmmm. I am stumped.
Thank you to all those ground observers. It's nice to know that Lib at least is trying to get to the nest. So sorry he has not met Joy yet.

IrisF said...

Scott and all that is something I've been wondering about for days, if it is an attempt to take over the nest, why is it so "half-hearted"???

The whole thing just doesn't make sense. I can understand no fish in the nest I think, because of the intruder, but something else seems to be going on we aren't aware of yet...

Harbinger said...

But if Trudy is actually trying to protect the nest, why does she not bring food?

Never mind...that was the wrong video..sorry. I can't find the one I was thinking about. There was a deep freeze and the eagle fishing ground was frozen over, so people provided fish for the eagles until it thawed out.

Robyn and Bird Girl, I only have OA, but I sure can tell when rain is coming or any front coming in for that matter. 45 years and counting. And I used to wonder how my grandfather knew it was going to rain in a day or two...

Is O'Joy ok? I had to get the dogs out then back in so I missed some cam time...

Diane. I don't see why someone couldn't stock the pond that is close by.

IRIS, I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis, but I do not have the skin problem, I have it in my joints and my entire spine. I get around well (no more waterskiing) but the pain can really set me back. the other meds weren't working after 2 years hence the move to Remicade which I heard from my bestie it works wonders for her...

OK I am going to get ready grab my nephew and head up to the nest.

Belle and lib soared above the nest and near it . Then belle returned to above the nest. Then she took off to the river and about 2 or 3 minutes later she hightailed it back to the nest with trudy on her tail. Trudy landed right next to the nest, and belle won the staredown contest and trudy left to perch south of the nest

This is a battle between the females

Hi all! Home from church and have been reading the blog to catch up. Finally did! When I got here...no Belle. Was certainly hoping she would come flying in with a fish.

There have been some wonderful comments on here. Good job momsters/dadsters!
