We're starting planning for some cam work. Will be improving the wiring at the base of the tree and will be going up in the nest to maintain things sometime in early to mid august.
I know somebody said there was a large bird flying over them, but I don't know what else happened. I was out buying paint, etc. Did something else happen?
I think you can just google the name of the bird, and get its pic, we used to watch a nest of them over on the Finland cam, but did not see that option this year
Good morning eagle friends! Trying to work and my mind keeps wandering, having a hard time staying on task this morning, so I thought I'd come over and say Hi!!
Just stopping in to say good morning all have a great day. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIANE. Hope you can come to open house. Thinking of Candy and Red Miss you guys.
Good morning all! I am very angry this am......the closure of VA rest stops already had me upset ( the one I ALWAYS need to use outside Winchester is now closed), and nnow I just read and heard that they are closing the Sideling Hill visitor center outside Hancock, MD....a most interesting geologic and naturist exhibit that the gg's and I just love to visit. ARGH!!!!!! They claim it costs $1.16 per visitor/year to keep open......well, I would gladly PAY that to be able to go.
Raining lightly here. Judie, cameras vary so much in functions and price. Digital, of course, is the way to go. I think that you can usually get pretty good advice/guidance at Best Buy, but think you can expect to pay between $2-300 for a decent one. All come with software/plug-ins that put their program on your puter and then you load pics on. Then we can tell you how to post to your blog!!!
Lynn, thanks for the camera advice. Probably not an option right now. However, since you know about where I live, you can always make a rest stop here although the wildlife part won't be so great.
Good morning from S.C. I've been enjoying all of your great sites, especially Wanda's pictures and those of the trucker. Still wish I was as good on the computer as some of you are. Sorry about the death of the young 16 year old and also sorry about all the illnesses etc. I feel so blessed. Sure do miss seeing Hidey, that little tree in the nest doesn't do it for me. Everyone take care. Love, Gwen
Don't know where Norma is but most of the burrowing owl are sitting out of the burrow waiting for her.
The 2 barn owls are preening. They should be fledging soon or maybe they already have. Late night when I check one of them is like sitting up on the box and you only see his tail feathers.
Good Morning Everyone in Birdland! Today is our best chance for rain down here. Looks like another raindance is on order! Must be enough shade in Hidey's nest to keep the weed growing! All the border plants in our osprey cam nest at Park have turned ornagey brown! More coffee & maybe some chores !?~~~
I think I will go to see the eagles released on Sat. Location is Mason Neck State Park (around Ft. Belvoir/Woodbridge). Advised to be there no later than noon. Rt 1 (Jeff.Davis highway) to Gunston Road then ~4.5mi to High Point Rd which goes to Visitor Center. Release location not yet determined but told it will be walking distance from parking lot. Will take wheelchair, anyway.
Out to supply water to critters. Really oppressive here and need rain badly.
Good to see you Jim Lots of well wishes on previous posts since when you were on Wednesday. Thinking of you as you prepare for your trip to Minnesota, and prayers for all with the loss of your family friend.
Glad to see you and get a chance to wish you a Safe Journey, and that you and Corey's family find the strength and comfort that being together as family can bring, in the days to come. Prayers, for all.
GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYONE... I did yard work early this morning (7:30). Mowed grass, fertilized flowers and watered the garden. The garden doesn't look lush like it usually does, this year, but it is producing well. Maybe all it's energies are going to the veggies instead of the foilage. Flowers are growing very slowly...we have far too much shade for petunias and marigolds. Impatients are doing well. The coleus that I dipped into HORMONE POWDER are doing better than the mother plants...gives me an idea for next year:)
I'm so glad NORMA checked in with us yesterday and let us know that her beautiful face only has a ZIT, or I would be really concerned about her. She hasn't checked in with us, that I can see. She did say she was having SLOW 'PUTER problems. Hope that's all.
Again, safe travels and ((HUGS)) for our Jim and Deb.
Mits and Margy...another article said that the "facilities" at Sideling Hill will remain open as well as the walk up to the cut....just the visitor center/exhibits will close....guess that's better than nuthin'!!! Wow, thought Deb and Jim would both be winging their opposite ways by now, but both still home....safe trips with hugs and prayers. Margy, think it was you I passed....looked like you, lovely lady! You should take James to Sideling Hill----SOON, LIKE TODAY!! Dinner with Chris was delightful...we went to the new shopping center, too. Apparently Harris Teeter is off the plan...no sogn of it or anyhting big enough to be it, no one knew anything about it! So guess article I had read was older than I thought, and they changed their minds! Boo.
BTW---nest seedling looks like a sycamore to me, too! Yea, Judie!!! Will this be your first time seeing an eagle in person? If you have a regular film camera....you can have a CD made when you get it developed and then you can view and post on the puter!!!
I had not realized where the eagle release would be. I don't see any reason I can't be there. I have a small digital camera I am just learning to use.
I would love to meet you there, Judie. Maybe together we can figure out how to take some pictues. I've never downloaded anything from my camera to the computer. Might want to try that today or tomorrow.
Hunter, George, and I have been painting the living room. Say a prayer for us! (If I can paint a room with an 8-year old and a cat, I can do anything!)
My first comment seems to have been eaten by the blogger cop. If it shows up somewhere else . . . oh, well.
Hi, everyone, Just got back from my appt. with the dermatologist--everything's OK. Had what I thought was a weird mole on my chest, but turns out it's not a mole or a wart, but a seborrheic keratosis. Thank God, Dr. says they never turn to cancer. She froze the very dickens out of it, and says it will scab up and drop off in 7-10 days. Glad that's over! Hope everyone's having a bit of rain back east. Sure wish we'd get some here to get rid of the humidity! Not too bad in the house so far, though. Guess I'd better do some housework before it heats up too badly. Wow, better get some lunch, too. Back in a bit... :o]
Holy, Moley, I hear a raindrop!!!!!Awhile ago there were gray clouds & thunder up the street, but not blowing our way. I'll have to time this! Houston, we have a HATCH!! Finally, saw both wrens bringing tidbits to house. I thought these eggs were duds, but finally at least one!I've been trying to get a current pic--very tiny tidbits!
Wow, Loretta, that's FANTASTIC!! Baby wrens--awesome! That's really good news. Hope you have some rain as well, to beat the humidity. I really need to get some laundry done. Hate the thought of turning on the dryer, but can't function without clean clothes, so I'm stuck.
Have been wanting to ask, any news about Kendra, the 14 year old who's getting chemo? Haven't seen her mentioned lately, and she's been on my mind.

Those chicks at Finneys have gone from looking cute and cuddly to looking fierce.
I think they have to put on their mean faces with all the intruder action yesterday
I know somebody said there was a large bird flying over them, but I don't know what else happened. I was out buying paint, etc. Did something else happen?
feeding at Finney's
They're lined up for feeding. Of course, we can't hear them. Maybe they don't sound as polite as they look.
no, not really it was a hoodie, not a large bird, harassing the Finney nest, we see them often at the Finland nest when the osprey are not there
I didn't see anything else in the messages from yesterday, but thought I might have missed somehting.
Never heard of a hoodie.
yes, I was going to buy the live stream, but maybe next year, I will, at the beginning of Finney's nests' season.
I think you can just google the name of the bird, and get its pic, we used to watch a nest of them over on the Finland cam, but did not see that option this year
actually it is called the hooded crow, but we just nicknamed them hoodies
Tried Googling, got, 'Do you mean hooded bird?' and ads for hooded jackets with birds on them . . . will have to scroll down.
Okay . . . see hooded crow.
Don't see or hear anything from Hidey. Going to have to run upstairs and get dressed since Grandson has early dental appointment today.
off to get some coffee, will talk to you later, Shirley...have a good one, don't work too hard today
Enjoy the beach today, Helen. I keep thinking I would love to have some beach time.
I am up and getting ready for work. Good morning, everyone.
Morning all:)
Hope your trip goes well, Deb. Safe travels.
Off to cut flowers, have a great day everybody!
Off to work. bbl.
Good morning eagle friends! Trying to work and my mind keeps wandering, having a hard time staying on task this morning, so I thought I'd come over and say Hi!!
How is every little one this morning?
Just went to Hornby Island for the first time in forever. That eaglet is noisy, has he fledged? I am sure he must have by now.
He is certainly dancing on the camera. Has anyone seen Hidey this morning?
Just stopping in to say good morning all have a great day.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIANE. Hope you can come to open house. Thinking of Candy and Red Miss you guys.

Sissy, Hidey teased us with some calls earlier this morning, but did not make an appearance that I know of.
The Hornby eaglet is still making a racket.
I think Paula said Hornby eaglet had fledged???
Hidey is a tease for sure!
I think it must have. I believe I've looked at that site and seen an empty nest, but the child is at home now. I think getting answers to the calls.
I have seen it branching this morning but I don't think he has flown.
That site (Hornby) always has strange sounds. Maybe wind blowing in microphone?
Not this morning, I mean. Thought a parent was bringing breakfast for a minute but haven't seen them.
Lord help us all!! Much ado about nothin'!
Well now, alrighty then. He flew right into the cam!
I really do not know--I have looked at the site, but not often. Eaglet could have been out of sight.
On camera, very excited.
I believe the child sees something that we don't see.
Good morning, everyone.
Lynn, thanks for the camera advice. Probably not an option right now. However, since you know about where I live, you can always make a rest stop here although the wildlife part won't be so great.
Off to do some errands.
Judie
Hope fledged on 7/21, will be 3 months old on the 27th
Good morning, Judie.
Oh wow, thanks Mits! Just fledged the other day! KWL!!

Good Morning Eagle Pals
Nice to see folks here and hope it's a good day in progress.
Lynn - Hope the birthday dinner with your daughter went well...sorry about the bad news regarding the Virginia Rest stops and Sideling Hill....
and once again, Happy Birthday Diane...hope you are enjoying your special day ☺ xo ♥
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the Tree growing in our nest is a Baby Sycamore...
I'll go out on that limb with you and say that one of those sycamore balls dropped into the nest from the nest tree and has sprouted!
Still cam still frozen up on 7/21.
I did email Steve and NCTC
☺ Two votes for the Sycamore! I think it is really cute, and hope the Eagles "contribute" to its growth with some good "fertilizer."
xo
Thanks for getting the word along to Steve about the Stuck Still Cam, Jo
Finland nest not updating again.

yes safe travels, Deb. Are you working a full day?
Thanks, Margy. I am looking forward to seeing everyone, but sure wish it were under different circumstances.
Yes, get off at 4, that gives me plenty of time to get to SF and the airport. My flight leaves at 8.
Take care Deb - My thoughts and prayers go with you.
Back to work, it could be a few days before I check back in. Thanks everyone!
