Good morning sisters!

from SD blog...

Currently, Bai Yun is still under close observation for any further signs of pregnancy. Female pandas will typically come in to their estrus around the same time of year, and gestation can take anywhere from three to six months. With Bai Yun, so far all of her offspring have been born after a four-month gestation

Good mornign nCTC Bloggers and lurkers and those some where in the middle. I turned on cam and saw that blue screen but through the static I heard a familiar peep...that was cool. Hope you are all heading for a great day. I am loving retirement for sure :-). Thanks for those who stop by Glo's Glimpses. The black and white cow several have mentioned is called an Orea Cow for obvious reasons. That was a fairly young one. Cam club starts again Sept 3. My summer assignment is umbrellas so i will be posting some of those next month . Hedgie I have no clue why you couldn't get to see the whole picture. That is important for all of life ((((hedgie)))) Ok off for coffee and dog treats. Dex and I are dreaming of our next road trip. So glad the first one went pretty well overall.

Good morning!

Yes! I have towing insurance. Thought I did. That won't be the biggest expense on this problem, but good to know it is something I do not have to worry about.

Mits said...

good one, Megan:)

stronghunter said...

Funny, Megan. Didn't know it was a link until I happened to run the curser over it.

stronghunter said...

cursor . .

stronghunter said...

Glo, I did not know about Glo's Glimpses. Very nice. I enjoyed your pictures.

Email from Steve:
Hi,

they were working on it yesterday. Still have not gotten a report.

Mits said...

thanks, Wanda

glo said...

Thanks Stronghunter Yep have gotten into Amateur Photography and having a ball. Meeting some super mentors in my cam club whihc is a great asset to the hobby for sure. Bought myself a retirement present and am enjoying using it. 4 more months til eagle season whoo hoo.

paula eagleholic said...

Morning, all.

Thanks for the update from Steve, Wanda.

stronghunter said...

On the camera. . . that was a really loud clash of thunder when the camera went out. I would not be surprised to learn that lightning got it, although the microphone continued to work.

They just took my car away. Made a movie for grandson. I am becoming dangerous with this thing.

magpie said...

Me too, Wanda - thanks for the update...and thanks Steve for the new thread and the update. You know how dependent upon or should I say addicted to the NCTC cam we are....☺

Shirley - liked your typo - "curser."

Good Morning and Best wishes for a good day, Eagle Pals, near and far

Steve Chase said...

The cam problem is in our TV studio, which routes the signals to the internet. I'm told it is equipment failure, but still waiting for the prognosis. He hopefully can reroute the signal around the broken "box".

magpie said...

Thanks Steve -
We appreciate everyone's efforts !

Costume Lady said...

Shirley, I have been 'dangerous' with my camera for 2 years now!:)
I carry it in my pocketbook at all times and take pictures of EVERYTHING and ANYTHING!:) I have been taking photos of my Monarch caterpillars and this morning, thought it was time for another and discovered that they both were gone from their little house (I have two)! One had crawled out and onto one of my coffee table plants and I put him back into his house, but, cannot find number 2...Oh, Lord, please don't let me step on him!

Costume Lady said...

Steve, don't know if you are aware of the loud noise which some of the Momsters heard just as the cam went out, or not, but that knowledge may help those who are trying to fix it.

paula eagleholic said...

Thanks for the update Steve. Sounds like something got zapped alright.

stronghunter said...

I try not to be a curser . . . only in jest when the lights are turned out.

magpie said...

Gotcha, Shirley -
I used to be pretty bad, but I have cleaned up my act!

Headed out to Shepherdstown to visit with family, step-daughter (grandson's Mom) visiting from Florida.

You'uns, Have a Good One.

xoxo ☺ ♥

stronghunter said...

Have a nice visit, Magpie.

Mits said...

one of Finney's o's has fledged:)

paula eagleholic said...

I see NBG is still down...

Lolly said...

Good morning! Thanks Steve for a Tuesday blog. Monday was a short day! LOL

Wanda, saw your comments on my facebook pictures. To get to Port Aransas you take a car ferry to get to the island. Those were pictures I took while crossing. It is a free ferry run by the state. Also, you can get to the island by a bridge but it is south of Corpus Christi which would be further for us. The ferry takes huge RV's, not a problem for a van pulling a trailer. It was a great RV park, very well kept and run.

hedgie said...

Hello!!!
Sure hope the cam connection can be repaired.
Glo, was your retirement gift to yourself by chance a new camera? LOL! You do good, girl.
Shirley, like Wanda says...carry your camera wherever you go...never know when that award-winning shot can appear!
Margy, have fun visiting---just don't park on Church St.!

Lolly said...

OMG, no blue screeen. Are we back on?

Lolly said...

I see the nest with new lettering across the bottom. I guess we are back up. Hear hammering!

Mema Jo said...

Good Morning All
Read comments - Hi Glo! So good to hear from you. Megan - Thanks for the song! (78 rpm 1941) It made the BLUE go away! WHoo HOo!

Look how that plant has grown!
Shade for sure!

Lolly said...

Hear also the children playing.

Lolly said...

Good morning Jo! When I first saw the nest I though they were running a video. LOL But it is back up for sure with bright sunshine.

stronghunter said...

Baby plant has grown. I wonder what it means that we are sitting here watching plants grow on a web cam? But do not really care what it means, except that we can see it again.

hedgie said...

Lolly and Wanda...had to laugh as I remembered many ferry crossings with the 27' camper....sure we had angry car owners (who couldn't get aboard because we took up four spaces) cussing us out every year.

stronghunter said...

Yeah, I can just seeing me recording escaping bank robbers or something. . .

Actually, I have had dreams of recording someone zooming around a stopped school bus. I do not like that.

Lolly said...

Yes, Lynn, we took up more space. We got to straddle the line. LOL

magpie said...

Heck- I didn't leave yet!

Thanks Steve and all the NCTC Gurus !

Whoa, Finney's has a fledge
Thanks for the alert, Mits
is Suzanne watching ?

Mits said...

yes, Margy I alerted her, and she confirmed it.....

Mema Jo said...

Thanks Steve and be sure to let the IT guys know how much we appreciate their time and knowledge!

Any date yet for the cam maintenance?

magpie said...

Yep, see that on Eaglet Momsters page now!

Way to go, Osprey-Eyed Helen !

and Bravo, Finney Chick!

Mema Jo said...

I haven't checked out my emails...

I'll return...

paula eagleholic said...

Thanks, NCTC crew.

Don't care the orange letters, but oh well.

magpie said...

That baby Sycamore is an adolescent now...or at least a toddler, big enough to give a little shade to a little bird...
Hope Hidey slides in for a visit.

magpie said...

Now, I am leaving.
TTFN xo ☺ ♥

hedgie said...

Thanks, NCTC!
I would venture to say that Hidey has not spent time in the nest, or the sapling would be squashed!!!

Costume Lady said...

Wonderful to have our cam up and running again. Lol, Shirley, you have a point, what does that say about us, sitting here looking at a tree growing in a nest...No worse than sitting here waiting for a horn to blow:):) If it means we are crazy, we have a lot of company! I like this kind of crazy;)

Costume Lady said...

Have a good day, Margy:)

Mema Jo said...

When they do Cam Maintenance I pray that if/when they uproot our shade tree that it doesn't cause a
HOLE in the NEST!

Just a thought!

Mema Jo said...

Wanda ROFLMBO
on your last comment!

Mema Jo said...

My daughter is with me so I will now visit!

BBL

Costume Lady said...

Lynn, maybe Hidey has taken to lying in the shade of the little tree...I wonder? This is so funny. I guess when the cam gets it's yearly maintainenc, they will remove the tree...I think they ought to give it to someone (JO) for a souvenier!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Well, that is plumb crazy. A tree growing in our nest. Wonder if that has ever happened before??

Costume Lady said...

Jo, daughters are WONDERFUL!

Mits said...

NEST WEATHER....

This Afternoon
Partly sunny. Highs around 90. South winds around 5 mph.
» ZIP Code Detail
Tonight
Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the upper 60s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.
Wednesday
Showers and thunderstorms likely. Highs in the lower 80s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent
amen:)

stronghunter said...

I think they should plant the baby tree somewhere. If they give it to Jo, maybe she plant it somewhere special.

stronghunter said...

Daughters are wonderful, as are sons. I have two of each.

stronghunter said...

I do think that a growing sycamore tree in the nest could cause some problems eventually. Really would make viewing difficult.

stronghunter said...

It is kind of hard to see now, but there are some little blades of grass growing under the tree. Hidey is going to need to mow eventually!

I saw the grass when the storm was blowing the tree all around.

Costume Lady said...

Shirley, how lucky you are to have two sons and two daughters. Gene and I planned to have that family before we got married. It didn't work out that way. I do have two grandsons and they are WONDERFUL!

Costume Lady said...

ROFLMBO, Shirley about the grass. Call Deb, she is the mowing lady of our group...she would do a fine job:)

Mits said...

feeding at Finney's nest

stronghunter said...

I feel very fortunate, Wanda. Did not really expect to have such a big family, but have always been happy that I did. We had a son and daughter, then a big surprise--twins.

stronghunter said...

Might be a little tough getting a mower up there.

Judie said...

Good almost afternoon, everyone. Just checking i.

Let me add my thanks and appreciation to Steve and all others who have revived our nest viewing. Now, if you could only get Hidey to appear!

Busy with school prep.

Andrea, how did school go last night?

Later,
Judie

paula eagleholic said...

Could just be a big weed. Wonder if one of those old rotten eggs down there provided some fertilizer for it?

I have seen items growing in other nests...take for example, the old Sidney nest...

hedgie said...

I was playing with my camera....old one only did 12 second movie image.....this one was still going after a minute. Pretty neat! Hope I see something soon worth filming---and then I'll need help with uTube!!!!

Lolly said...

I am off to buy groceries.....really am this time. I was in the dumps yeterday and really did not feel like grocery shopping.

Yes, we listen for horns, watch trees grow and best of all....sit and watch eggs, waiting for them to hatch. So many think we are crazy, but then they do not realize what we really have...Momsters and Dadsters!!!

Have a great day!

Costume Lady said...

Lynn, UTube is very easy...but, it takes forever! So, be paitent.

Costume Lady said...

TOUCHE', Lolly. Have a good day:)

Costume Lady said...

Still haven't found my wayward caterpillar:(

hedgie said...

Think I forgot to tell y'all that my baby girl is in Cancun this week! She and her hubby are on vacation---left Sat., return this Sat. Incommunicado, tho'---boo! Cell service too expensive; computer time is $5/30 min. so said she doubted she would use it for email. Took it primarily for downloading pics off camera!

stronghunter said...

Lynn, my son helped me get going on You Tube. Was not hard at all.

Car News--Not the starter! Battery is the problem, but I need spark plugs and a water pump in addition to a new battery, and of course, the serpentine belt--$1,100!

Should get something back on the battery--Die Hard from Sears, and State Farm will pay for the towing, which, I think, takes $60.00 off the bill.

They mentioned alignment, but daughter works in a shop that does that. Will let her take it to work one day.

Have not had much work done on the car up to now, and it has almost 100,000 miles. I have a long commute and must have a car in good shape.

wvgal_dana said...

Good Afternoon to those in Eagleland and Watchers.

Nice to pull up the cam and see the leaves blowing and hear things.
Maybe they will plant the small tree from middle of nest on NCTC property.

Need to catch up on emails and blog.

hedgie said...

Just saw Myrtle again!
Lolly, I would have been low, to, with that dental apptmt. result---yuck! I feel for you.

paula eagleholic said...

Orange letters are gone...

Costume Lady said...

Hi, Dana...they probably will plant the seedling on NCTC property, but we won't get to see it grow there.
Shirley, that is a lot of money, but, as you said, 100,000 miles and not many problems, so I guess there's something there to be greatful for:)

I guess this hot weather is hard on Ed, Dana. Keep him indoors.

Costume Lady said...

They didn't want to upset you, Paula. LOL

Costume Lady said...

Photos of caterpillar on Just For Flun Blog.

wvgal_dana said...

Wanda he keeps himself indoors when it is too hot or too humid.

Oh did you find the other one Wanda?

stronghunter said...

Wanda--Love the caterpillar pictures. That first picture--so much leaf, so little caterpillar!

I would love to find one to show Hunter. We had such fun with them when my oldest kids were little.

hedgie said...

Hi ya', Dana...Yep---check email! I sent out the NCTC info this am!
How is Ed doing today? Is your surgery still on for tomorrow??? It's a piece of cake---mom had it done a couple of years ago, as did my Bill; both said 'nothing to it"!
Shirley, sorry it's so expensive to fix the car. What a bummer.

stronghunter said...

Looks better without the orange letters. Glad they decided to remove them. Don't want anything blocking the view.

movin said...

** GOOD MORNING **

** EVERYONE **

Are you all watching for Finney's eldest to return to the nest??

As of a minute ago she was still on her 'fly-about.'

I see they have fixed our live feed. Did they say what had happened?

C(°Ù¿°)D

Jim

Costume Lady said...

No catapillar #2 yet, Dana:(

stronghunter said...

Thanks for the kind words of sympathy over my car repair bill. I expected it be costly, but that is more than I had expected. That is what seems to happen as soon as you pay off the car loan. Guess it is programmed into the car.

Costume Lady said...

Shirley, I go out every 3 days to replenish my stock of milkweed food for the caterpillar and sometimes bring in a new baby. I make little abodes for them and give them to friends...but, only if they have a supply of milkweed nearby.

wvgal_dana said...

Afternoon Jim.

Oh sorry I then posted NCTC information on blog Lynn-Hedgie. Still going through emails.

Yes cataract surgery on for tomorrow. Most say hardest is NOT BENDING head for 3 weeks.

stronghunter said...

My son-in-law should be on the way back from West Virginia today. He went to a family funeral in Camden-on-Gauley. Just looked it up--I knew it was a small town--Wikipedia says the population is 157. Love the town's name.

Mema Jo said...

Keep us posted with pics on the caterpillars, Wanda. Wish I had milkweed!
I will gladly plant a tree in my yard!
I would also like that turtle shell we've been looking for - like for the past 3-4 years! lol

My 2 active squirrels are out on the deck giving me that 'evil eye' look!

paula eagleholic said...

Wanda - don't think it had a thing to do with me!

stronghunter said...

We had caterpillars when we lived in Ohio. There was a field next to the house with plenty of milkweed. I haven't found any monarch caterpillars since we came to Virginia, but expect I would if I really went searching.

ISS-Shuttle update:

The Expedition 20 and STS-127 crews bid one another farewell and closed hatches between the International Space Station and space shuttle Endeavour at 11:08 a.m. EDT.

The station will be reoriented for undocking by 12:38 p.m., and docking latches will open at 1:26 p.m. allowing Endeavour to drift free. Pilot Doug Hurley will guide Endeavour on a fly-around of the station at a distance of 400 feet, with final separation from the orbiting outpost at 2:41 p.m.

Sat. tuoch-down is planned.

hedgie said...

85.4 degrees here already!

hedgie said...

Shirley, guess that town is along the Gauley River, but I don't even know where IT is!!!
Dana, don't think they have the head-bending rules anymore!!

hedgie said...

No offense to anybody, but I think my ignorance on this state is just my subconscious protest against being someplace I never really wanted to be!! WV, like any and all states, has its' own charm and beauty, and there are many things I have learned and come to love about her....but if I had my druthers, I'd definitely still be in VA or in NC!!

floralgirl said...

Hey Jo, just ask me next year and I'll give you some asclepias plants- milkweed, grow it as an annual in your garden, it will bring you monarch caterpillars.

Lolly said...

Musr be catching! Went to start the van to go to the store....battery was completely dead. Jack has removed it and headed out in his truck. So, here I sit. No groceries today. Guess I will go clean windows and my bathroom. (Since I like cleaning so much!!! NOT!!!)

stronghunter said...

I have never been there, but it is way up in coal country. Kathryn was happy that he arrived not long after dark because of all the windy, twisty roads.

hedgie said...

Too bad, Lolly! You didn't want to go to the store anyway, did you?
Dana, check my blog for a neat pic from Sunday Herald!
BTW---who is doing your cataracts? Promersberger?

stronghunter said...

Yes, it is on the Gauley River.

stronghunter said...

Where in North Carolina, Lynn?

Lolly said...

We grow fennel just for a particular caterpillar and butterfly. However, we think birds must get most of them. Jack followed one when it matured and left the plant. It got about 20 feet away and climbed a bush. Then it too disappeared. Maybe next year a box. Have plenty of fennel to feed them! Hey, if Jack can spend hours watch a caterpillar crawl across the ground, I should watch eagles without harassment! LOL

stronghunter said...

Sorry about the battery, Lolly.

Mema Jo said...

Hedgie - Margy confirmed that what I saw Saturday evening driving home was the ISS! It was beautiful
Guess Saturday I'll watch the landing - should be as dramatic as the lift off!

wvgal_dana said...

Same office Lynn-Hedgie but it Dr. Brack. I like him very much just as I did Promersberger. On my paper it has no jumping, no bending, no lifting, he said no water activities 3 wks.

NatureNut said...

Afternoon Everyone---spent all morning catching up & couldn't write unlit the phone stopped ringing!!! aarrgghh
How exciting that today is Deb's osprey day!Looked at Bob's pics last night and saw our osprey banding trip last June!Greg just took a group on a boat ride & I heard squeal from youngest osprey in new nest platform near office. This was replacement away from trees to prevent GHO's from taking birds. Lost the mother bird last year ( 2 nests), so this pair had to build new nest.

hedgie said...

Not familiar with Dr. Brack, Dana. Guess they have revised the post-op activities again! Maybe has something to do with the news lenses they use.
Shirley, Outer Banks is my greatest preference!!! But I would love New Bern or even someplace near Wilmington if I could. My dad was birn in Winston-Salem, but I'm really a beach girl, not a mountain girl!

Lolly said...

New battery installed....bye!

hedgie said...

Cool, Loretta!! What's the latest on a webcam there???

hedgie said...

Don't know how you can stand NOT getting on the boat everytime it goes out, Loretta. When I out my pics of our trip there on Picasa, I clicked on slideshow and I have the most marvelous experience of the motion of traveling on the river whenever I watch it!!

stronghunter said...

Lynn, I was born in Charlotte, and lived near there--have lived near Greensboro, in Stokes County, and in Winston-Salem (briefly). Went to East Carolina in Greenville. I claim the whole state. Love the Outer Banks. I am a beach person, too.

Huntersville, near Charlotte, is my family homeplace.

NatureNut said...

I've heard nothing on webcams yet. It's probably too late to bother w/ospreys. Altho I did see adult & then juvie in cam nest this AM. The piece de resistance would be to have an eaglecam!!!!!But I can't even get Hidey Live on this 'puter---only has Flash 6.0, not 10.0---BOO
Good to see Glo & Anne-Marie & Red on earlier. Keep on truckin' & Dana, Good Luck at eye Dr.
Deb's CO pics were so good----heavy heart for Corey. We had an employee here in his 30's who had diabetes & succumbed while cutting grass at his church on a very hot day. So sad, wife & a few kids. He worked w/Girl Scouts on Park property they leased & we made a Memorial Amphitheatre there for him.

Mema Jo said...

Daughter heading home! Thanks Megan I'll take you up on that! I hope my memory lasts that long. Wanda will be my reminder when she starts talking about butterflies! Loved her pics!

wvgal_dana said...

Just trying to catch up on my yahoo emails now. I did a delete...

floralgirl said...

Don't worry, I'll remember :)

Costume Lady said...

Lynn, New Bern is where GeeGee wanted to go on her vacation 2 years ago. She had read "The Notebook" (I think), it was one of Nicholas Spark's books and took place in New Bern near the Neuse River. She said she would love for the town to look as it was described in the book and it must have been close to it, because she was overjoyed. Nice quaint town.

NatureNut said...

Speaking of butterflies, lady that was here yesterday said a group of elementary kids came w/a couple adults. The adults went kayaking!!!! & left a couple 12 year olds in charge! The kids started picking flowers in the Butterfly Garden!!!!!Someone stopped them, but those people shouldn't be allowed here again!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I type for a hospital in New Bern. Cool huh?

My BFF, Charlie, who is a flight attendant for US Airways, is going to Glasgow, Scotland today and will have a 30-hour layover. Gets paid to go there, pretty cool, huh? I have asked him to please bring Gerry (Gerard) Butler back to me! :)

Mema Jo said...

Dana - I'll be thinking of you and the eye surgery tomorrow. Just to be sure - you do have a designated driver - right?

I have to go to Dracula tomorrow morning before eating for the blood work on blood sugar and cholesterol and other things that seem to just pop up when least expected.. Age related issues they're called.

Can't keep my mind from wandering to thoughts of Deb and the Ospreys!

paula eagleholic said...

OK, we're all safe...3rd battery in 2 days...they say it comes in threes :):):)

Mema Jo said...

Hello Sharon!
I hope Helen is enjoying her afternoon and that the food is good!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

HOT LIPS!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

That is right Paula. I have Andrew's car this week while he is at the beach - AGAIN - and it is needing a muffler.

NatureNut said...

BTW, If I could see the Live Cam, I would watch weeds grow!!! I even saved a still pic hoping I could check out the plant, but never did yet! DUH~~~~~been watching wrens go in & out of their house feeding chick(s)---at least there is motion! What's worse is have been trying to get closeup of one w/food thru the bathroom window! They don't pose very often!

NatureNut said...

Oh gosh, Sharon. No one can use that word "beach" again, right??
I haven't been to any either...BOO

paula eagleholic said...

Alright, Sharon. No one said you could start a muffler thingy, lol.

stronghunter said...

Loretta, Kathryn has been trying to get pictures of the wren that built the nest shown on my blog. She has to go into that area pretty often at her work. Says the wren looks at her as if to ask her what she thinks she's doing. . . wren says, "I'm sitting here warming my eggs, and exactly what are you doing?"

Wren doesn't hang around for pictures.

paula eagleholic said...

BTW, I think we have 2 trees growing in the nest

stronghunter said...

Oh no, mufflers! Please! The shop still has my car.

paula eagleholic said...

Dana - best of luck with your surgery tomorrow. Tell Ed he has to get on here and give us an update!

stronghunter said...

Paula, I think you are right. Another one closer to the edge of the nest.

Funny, I went Googling about trees growing in nests and it brought me right back to this blog, I believe back in 2006 or so.

stronghunter said...

Yes, Dana, the best to you.

Judie said...

Quick visit.

Shirley, I am sorry about the expense for car repairs. Still just glad it was not last Sat.

Lolly, sorry about the car battery.

Praying my STARTER keeps working! And, my battery too, I guess.

Dana, best for tomorrow. Many friends have had the surgery and no one had any difficulty at all.

Happy Anne-Marie is healing and Glo is loving retirement.

Caterpillars I remember best from Ohio are wooly worms that were thought to be winter weather predictors. Around here, seems we mostly get those nasty tent types.

Love Outer Banks and Sandbridge in VA. Growing up, those areas were near deserted with little more than sand dunes, water, and blue sky. Alas, civilization has encrouched.

Think I'll go make a quick peek in frig and contemplate dinner.

Later,
Judie

Mema Jo said...

It is Tuesday Spaghetti Night!

stronghunter said...

Judie, I am very glad it was not Saturday. If it had to happen, my driveway was a much better spot.

NatureNut said...

Gonna go soon---just wanted to say that I didn't do any raindances for OC, only TX!!

hedgie said...

I'm back....took a panda nap! And missed a lot!
Shirley, think it's very cool that you are a NC native! Charlotte is such a big city now that don't think I would want to be there----had an opportunity to transfer there back in the late 90's and said no thanks! Haven't heard of your hometown, tho'. Which direction is it out of Charlotte? I agree, Wanda, that New Bern is most bucolic.
Was reading Sparks' most recent release last week....and found a couple of "goofs"---in one place he was mentioned there being Spanish moss in the trees in the Chapel Hill area---I don't believe that it grows that far north or inland, and asked a friend who lives near there and he said nope! And then he had a part where he sent the characters from the Chapel Hill area to Wilmington on a Saturday evening to go on a quick shopping trip: it's like over 130 miles each way!
Oh, no, Paula...another battery? What is going on here??? Prayers that NO ONE else has battery toruble----or mufffler, either.
Loretta, what in the world is wrong with people??? You're right---they should be banned from the park!

stronghunter said...

Huntersville is north of Charlotte. The claim to fame is that Joe Gibbs has his racing headquarters there now. That happened since my mother passed away. I have not been down there for awhile.

stronghunter said...

I do not remember any Spanish moss in the Chapel Hill area, and it definitely would not be a quick shopping trip from Chapel Hill to Wiimington.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Well, we are heading out to Roanoke! BBL!

paula eagleholic said...

Hedgie= Anne Marie was the first battery, Shirley was the second and Lolly was the third!

stronghunter said...

Have a nice trip, Paula.

hedgie said...

I forgot about A-M, Paula! Glad you didn't have trouble, too!
Knew that Joe had his shop near Charlotte but never paid any attention to exact location, Shirley. Of course, know that Dale's was (Theresa's is!) in Kannapolis! Don't know where Jrs. is for JR Motorsports, but do know that his new bar/restaurant is in Charlotte. Eldest daughter wants to go so bad! She is madly in love with him!

hedgie said...

Speaking of Sparks....if you've read Nights in Rodanthe, or seen the movie...the beach house is not as isolated as it is in the movie! And as of late last year, Candy said it was for sale for $1 million+-----wish I was rich!!!!!
I think it is highly unusual for him to make mistakes like that---either he's working too hard, or not paying attention to what he's saying! Or else he's just not as familiar with his state as he pretends to be!

stronghunter said...

Kannapolis is a bit north and east of Huntersville.

stronghunter said...

Funny mistake for someone living in North Carolina.

hedgie said...

My thought exactly!

floralgirl said...

Mason has arrived home!

Mits said...

wow great news, Megan....friend should be here any minute, will then go up to other friends for dinner...bbl

stronghunter said...

Speaking of Joe Gibbs, while he was coaching the Redskins--first time around--he lived in the Fawn Lake Subdivision, which is off Route 3 not far from here.

We were out looking around one afternoon. I was looking for a house, and we drove up to the Fawn Lake (a gated community)guardhouse and explained that I wanted to look around. The guard said,"Oh sure, and here is a map to Joe Gibb's house." It was a beautiful house on the water. I expect Joe did not know they were passing out maps to his house!

No way I could afford to live there and I guess it is a good thing I'm not dangerous.

My mouth is watering thinking of Mits having her dinner........

Evening all. Just stopping in quickly. We are having a sun out rain and thunder.
Dana good luck tomorrow. I have cataracts but they are just starting. Hope they grow slow.
Praying that Mason is able to stay home. Glad the dogs are with him.

stronghunter said...

Got my car back. They came and got me and took me to the shop. For what I paid, it was not too much to ask!

They have always been very nice there--Express Auto in Fredericksburg.

stronghunter said...

They tell me I have cataracts, too, Ceil. That's not surprising, but so does my son. He is sure his, which is on one eye, is from a bruise he got on his eye when he was a teenager.

ceil said...

Shirley I don't know. My mother's mom had them. My mom and her brothers had them.

movin said...

Great news about Mason. I hope he begins to recover even faster now with his dogs and his family and all the familiar objects and places to stimulate him.

And our prayers too, naturally.

I was looking at the green growing thing in the nest. I decided it's not the Sycamore seedling I thought it might be.

It's growing way faster and bushier. In fact I think it is a bush...or shrub.

It has a large, arrow-head shaped leaf. What grows like that in WV?? Anybody know?

Got my groceries bought and put away in time to make it to the movies. We NEVER go to the movies, but we have to see Harry Potter. Whole family big Harry Potter fans!!

Now I have to think about supper and I am full of popcorn. LOL

hedgie said...

Not sure what kind of leaf that would be, Jim....I'll look at it more closely in the good daylight tomorrow and see if I can tell....I haven't zoomed in on it.
Don't know if cataracts tend to be hereditary or not, but my grandPOP had them, my mom and now me.....I wish I would get one on the other eye and that they would ripen real fast so that I could get the lens implants and not need to wear glasses!!
Lolly, I've never read a Harry Potter book or seen a movie---just not my kind of thing. Glad you enjoyed seeing the movie today.

Mema Jo said...

Lolly - you have a Harry Potter friend in me! Took my young grandsons to the 1st movie and again just last week. Even though they are 19 & 14, they called to remind about going! Tradition!
I have read all the books - the last book is a whopper - (Pg count) They are going to do 2 movies from it Part 1 & Part 2. I really don't like that idea! 2010 and 2011 I think! I have to hang around until then I guess! lol

Cataracts

Here's a reference for cataracts. As you can see there are many possible causes, and there can be a hereditary link.

Like you say Hedgie - think we best wait until daylight to get a better view.

We're seeing quite a few shots of Braveheart perched on the edge with a look of anticipation. Keep in mind it takes a good bit of courage for that first leap, so we think she's working on her nerve.

movin said...

I believe you can have one cataract removed and the lens replaced at the same time now.

That's the way they did my sister's.

Boy, my Mom had hers removed in the late 70's, I believe, and they didn't replace the lenses. She had to wear these very heavy, thick-lens glasses, which made her look kind of like a space case. But she could see well after the surgery.

I also have a cataract in the making.
Has not done any damage yet and I do not need to have anything done at this time. My maternal grandmother had them but no one else to my knowledge.

I am so glad Mason is home. Just warms my heart. His dogs are at the foot of his bed. How cool is that?

Well, we went to Roanoke, ate at Macado's. I then stopped at FYE and got a Pat Monahan CD, Last of Seven. He is the lead singer for Train and I love them!!!!

wvgal_dana said...

Lynn-Hedgie for the lens they put in does not mean you won't have to wear glasses. Some people still have too. Unless they want to pay $3000.00-$6000.00 for special lens that insurance does not cover. There are lens out there between that dollar amount that guarantee no glasses. I'm going for the regular deal lol If I have to wear glasses afterwards so it is to be.

Also that is NOT a sycamore leaf growing in the nest. I had a sycamore tree.

Thanks, Jim, for cataract info---pretty much covers all possibilities. Didn't speicifically say arc welding, but that is what dr. said caused my BIL's when he was only about 35.

hedgie said...

Jo, we know you'll be here for the rest of your movies AND for years to come after that!

Mema Jo said...

It is 3:35 am and would you believe that the Finney chick is doing wing exercises!

Lolly said...

Yea! Mema Jo! Thrilled you are a Harry Potter fan! Laurel, being a sixth grade reading teacher, got us hooked on HP. We have all read them. Laurel has read out loud to Joseph. They have the DVD's and watch them regularly and Laurel and Jack have reread the books several times.

Lynn, not my normal book either, but if you do read them from the first book, you do get hooked. That woman is something else. She did a fantastic thing and got children to READ!!!! Now, when Laurel comes up with a good youth book she passes them on to us. She tries to read all youth books that she puts on her shelves at school. We are also Lord of the Rings fans. I first read those books 36 years ago. I had the mumps and was in bed. Jack said READ these. I did! (Got the mumps from a neighbor boy, gave them to my six month old baby girl)

hedgie said...

Dana, I will cash in some of my 401k to pay for the Crystal Vision lenses!!!! Plus the price will come down in a couple of years as they become more popular.
Sharon, my quesiton from earlier after you left: who's Gerry Butler?

Lolly said...

Jack and I were just talking about when the last ones will be released. You will be here to see them Jo. And, you will go to see them with your kids! More fun!

Mema Jo said...

HP books are best when read 2 times over! I read them so fast just being excited with the story! Had to go back before the movie was produced and read again!

wvgal_dana said...

Lynn-Hedgie you have mail

hedgie said...

Never read those, either, Lolly. (Mumps at 36 very dangerous!!!) Did read Lord of the Flies---by assignment, not by choice! Yuck.

So Ms. Goose is a Sunflower!!
I can't believe a bear was seen there recently! I missed it.
Went out for awhile, but mosquitoes started to attack.Ms. Wren was in the house, but sometimes hanging her head out to keep cool. And did hear one baby robin doing a chirp-cheep. Saw both youngsters hopping in grass on Sunday. On actually pecked the ground 3 times, but didn't get any food!

Mema Jo said...

Lolly - have you gotten any amount of rain yet? There was something on the news about the fines being used during the Water Ban.

hedgie said...

Loretta, Suz sent out good pics one day last week of bear tearing down the birdfeeder at Snowman--and then lying on the ground enjoying his take!!!

hedgie said...

No new mail, Dana!

Mema Jo said...

Loretta - the bear that was there last night was B I G !
Are you still dancing for Lolly's rain?

I can't believe they were picking flowers from the Butterfly garden! NO
let me rephrase that - I can't believe the adults left the children attended by a 12 yr old.

movin said...

Hedgie, I'm sure welding in general and specifically arc welding would be a possible cause of cataracts.

We've had several people with cataracts ... usually late middle age at least. But I'm not sure of any genetic connection.

Maybe about 15 years ago, while at an eye exam, the optometrist said I had "incipient cataracts" on both eyes. I couldn't see any effect, but he could see them.

At that time he recommended I take "ICaps" vitamin and minerals ... time release. There are vitamins and mins, which help the eye, including zinc and copper.

I took them for quite a while, then SavOn stopped the timed release kind, so I used the standard model instead.

Now, the multivitamins for mature people have the zinc, etc., as well, plus they have licopene.

Anyway, the cataracts have not gotten worse, and the optometrist has not even mentioned them the last two visits.
