Most of us know that the bald eagle is our national symbol.
Most of us know that the bald eagle came very close to extinction in the past century.
And, most of us know that the eagle has enjoyed a recovery as a result of legislation and the vigilance of those who care about these majestic birds.
But, how many of us know that there is a bald eagle nest in our national capital?
We think of eagles as birds that thrive in the wilderness, and it is true that they do. But eagles can adapt to human presence—in moderation. And that is the point. The eagles in the District of Columbia have definitely adapted to an urban atmosphere, but they are now about to be threatened by proposed construction being planned by the Department of Homeland Security. The nest is on the campus of the old Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital, where there is still an area that can support them.
It is not the proposed building that is a threat to the eagles: the threat is a proposed road leading to the back of the building. This project is still in the planning stages, so it is not too late to make changes.
Bald eagles mate for life, and they return to the same nest year after year. These eagles deserve the right to be left alone so they can rear their young undisturbed. Surely the Department of Homeland Security can plan around their needs.
For more information about these eagles, see Faye Fiore’s July 4th article in the Los Angeles Times.
Morning all. Nice day here in PA. The temp may get into the 80's. We need some of Deb's rain and Lolly's heat--but not too much of the heat thank you.
My red-headed woodpecker jaunt was kind of a bust. When we finally found the trail, my fellow birder decided she didn't like the looks of it. We saw a towhee and heard wood thrush. We later drove near one of the bald eagle nests, but no activity to be seen. This is not the greaest time of year for birding.
Hidey has been a no show for me today. I guess the timing is off.
One place that we are most likely to get our opinions published is on our own local newspapers' editorial pages.
We have been thinking of the top-down approach--contacting those in high positions--but we can also be effective by using the bottom-up approach--letters to the editor.
Also--those of you who have the know-how, You Tube seems to be a great way to get attention. You have all kinds of videos of Hidey and of other eagles. Maybe you can put something together.
I can do the writing, but I do not know much about putting together videos.
Dana, found out the other day, that the zoo took 5 of the flamingo eggs and gave them to other zoos that needed them, and replaced them with wooden eggs, so there will only be 2 flamingo chicks again this year, zoo does not really need anymore flamingos
Shirley, I like your idea of starting from the bottom, up. And, I guess, we are the BOTTOM! We can get a lot done if we band together, because WE CARE!
Thank you Mits for that information. I did see both little white fuzz balls this morning. ( : So cute...glad they help like that by sending eggs to other zoos.
birthday boy enjoying his apple, yesterday, don't forget to go to the zoo panda page, great pics, and video of how they made his cake.....they do an excellent job of taking care of all the animals....they get an A+ from me.
Shirley, if you like, I can submitt your letter to the Martinsburg Journal Letters to the Editor. It is well written and I think will raise a little ire in our town.
Wanda, in re-reading, I realize I did not say anything local to our area in my letter, but you might think of something to add . . . feel free to do so. You are so very near the Hidey nest, that I am sure you can arouse interest there.
GOOD MORNING EAGLE BUDDIES!!---I have been attempting to play catch-up!---but I can't!!---WONDERFUL NEWS!---ELKINS BILL!!---I was sure the word 'EAGLE' would get their attention at SENATOR BYRD'S OFFICE! --- Thank you--I think the more letters the better!!---
Morning all. Sent 2nd letter to my senator regarding her first reply to me being off the track.Have not heard back. Mits DC does not want any more problems then they have. Like our Inner Harbor unless someone reports a problem you ain't gonna hear about it. I think the beet juice was a mistake. Tai had it splashed all over him. Have a great day. Wear red.
The Amtrak leaves Washington at 8:10 AM Monday - I will read the schedule and get back to you on that. I hadn't even realized we would be going through Baltimore -
Ha Ha - I was at the station Thursday morning when "your train" came through eastbound...was waving to people but they must have thought I was crackpot...I didn't see AYONE wave back :(
--Thanks!--DANA--The DONKEYS said you had been there---ho!---Still have YOU & ED in my thoughts & prayers!---I hope this weather is good for his breathing---GOD BLESS!!
KIDS!---I saw the 'LITTLE PRINCE'--aka TAI!!---on the news at least 2 times!---HE IS THE COOLEST PANDA ON THE PLANET!---but I wanted him to jump up on top of the cake---(like he used to)----ho!!---
So panda is wearing red this Friday, huh?? I guess Ch. 9 will take a few days to prepare the story, if they decide to run with it! Figure I'll address it directly w/ some of the reporters if nothing happens soon....most of them have blogs that they tend to regularly. LOL....Eagle delegation at Baltimore station may be on the agenda, I bet! Neat.
The OSPREY MOM is feeding her CHICKS this am!---The eldest CHICK is almost as large as MOM!---& she has learned to give all--who look at her nest---'the evil eye'---ho--a favorite site!!
Good morning! Did not get on at all yesterday. Every time I sat down with computer in lap Jack thought of another chore we needed to do. Getting ready to head to the beach Monday morning!
Norma, hello there! What is this about you and a plumber? Your reputation is at stake! LOL No, homemade bread and sausage this morning, but I told Jack I wish we were having it. However, we will have it Monday morning! When we start out early on trips we take sausage sandwiches with us. Yum!
WHOA! --You EAGLE MOMSTER & DADSTERS are quite GOOD letter writers---Plan to send a few to local papers---We have EAGLES in this area!----& the engineer on the 'EAGLE TRAIN' IN ROMNEY----is now carrying a CAMERA -----stops the train for a PHOTO OPTS!---
Surely I can pass some of this stifling heat off to someone! I have found you can go out early in the morning and after eight at night, but all you can do is sit. If you move, you sweat! I mean you get drenched!
Time to go eat a bite and excercise. Have lost the couple pounds I gained on vacation. It has come off so easy and I am "maintaining" not dieting. Yea!!!!!!
Good Late Morning All! Lynn that is a great article with very useful info to include in letters. Not too much scheduled for today - like Margy I need to get b-day cards in the mail!
THANKS LOLLY---I have forgotten how to BLOG!----I so enjoyed the day with you MOMSTER folks!---but you are too kind!!---ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY!---When you adopt me--does it mean I will get to take all those trips too!---ho!---You FOLKS ARE COOL!!
had sent a sympathy note to Memphis the other day...here is there reply...
Thanks for the nice words. We’ve received a tremendous amount of support from the community for Asali and our staff during this difficult time. Please know how much we appreciate the sympathy, and your continued support of the Memphis Zoo. I’ll make sure to share your email with all of our keepers.
Thanks again,

amazed they even took the time, when their hearts are breaking:(
Well I had to come back on to tell everyone. I just heard from Anna-Marie on phone. She left hospital last night. Needed to sleep in own bed and had a wonderful nights sleep. Will be on liquids another week. Then move slowly into like cottage cheese. She needs to rest, sleep and be still. Will try to get on blog in couple of days. I told her everyone has been praying for her surgery. Also that everyone will be praying for her healing. She sends her thanks for the prayers and sends her love to ALL.
I did go to Cumberland!!!---bought a washer & dryer---I don't remember having that many choices last time I bought a washer & dryer!!---But I did 'GET LOST'---I was exhausted when I got home!--(I get lost in my drive)---ho!
THANKS DANA!---I was going to ask about ANNE-MARIE--(isn't she a nurse)---I will keep her in my thoughts & prayers!!---BLESS HER HEART!---I am so very glad she is doing well!!!---She's COOL!---
WHOA! MITS---The 'LITTLE PRINCE' has changed so much & acts so COOL-I thought he might not eat any of his cake!---it took forever to try to taste it!!--I was waiting for him to JUMP ON TOP OF THE CAKE!!---The 'LITTLE IMP'!---LOVE HIM--BEST OF ALL!!!
I am home for lunch, cloudy but not raining right now.
Flood warnings out for the Vermillion River. The streets were flooded again this morning. Even though we are on top of a bluff, the rain is coming too fast for it to drain and that is causing the street problems. We are supposed to dry out starting tomorrow. I sure hope so.
I could have Kayaked part of the way this morning! I would have had to pull it down my street, but then I could have climbed in and paddled the rest of the way. The ditches are starting to go down now.
Norma - Christine just sent email of Shutterfly pics to view - Around 700 of them while they were here! WHoo Hoo! Take me a week to look at all of them.
Okay, my squirrel friend is burying pieces of pecan nuts under the little mounds of grass left over from mowing the back yard. I guess the birds or other animals will find them there.
Oh, yes, Deb, forgot to say that I feel badly for Roger, too. Dana, thanks so much for update on A-M!!She's a strong gal! They must have done the surgery laparoscopically for her to be out this quick! Norma, I don't THINK that she's a nurse! Good, Shirley....hope Ch. 9 gets to it first!!! LOL---competition, ya' know!
HEY SHIRLEY!!---You feed your squirrels 'PECANS' & mine only get left over 'BIRD SEEDS'---When word gets out---you will be knee deep in 'SQUIRRELS!!!!---ho!
HEDGIE---I think I am correct in telling you that ANNE-MARIE (was) a nurse---because I couldn't understand why she would give up that job to work in an office----She said being a nurse -- just wore her out!
Seems to me that you write very well, Norma. The purpose of writing is communication, and you do communicate with us every day . . . well, almost every day. You went missing there for awhile.
Studied journalism all through HS. Wanted to go to Northwestern for a j. degree..but then daddy got sick and college fund went for medical bills. So ended up going to local college and becoming a nurse...boo! Was editor of HS and College newspapers, as well as of our GM plant newspaper!
Learn/find something new everyday! Just found a squirrels' nest (nothing new about that here)---never thought about it: just always pictured the leafy nest having a bowl in the top...NOT! They live INSIDE of it---just watched a youngster go in!! Will get a pic of the nest, but bet I won't catch an entry/exit shot!
Just got this back from the DC National Chapter Sierra Club: Thanks, Dana! I will discuss this with the Executive Committee to see if we are going to take a position on this.
Just went back and copied and pasted your letter info into my Word file, Lynn. It is very good.
Nursing and journalism. A nice combination.
I haven't studied journalism, but, of course, I do teach writing. We are being told that argumentative writing is the thing to teach high school kids getting ready for college and college freshmen preparing for later courses. It's certainly the kind of writing we need for this project.
REMEMBER: Shuttle Endeavor is scheduled to launch at 7:39 PM tomorrow---unfortunately, it will still be daylight, so we won't be able to see anything, doggone it all!
My kids and I got fairly close to a shuttle launch once. We stopped on the roadside near the launch site. The sound was amazingly loud even miles away.
We saw the shuttle take off and then this huge roar came rolling at us.
Haven't watched live at Cape Canaveral/Kennedy, but even in daylight could see them when Mom lived in Port St. Lucie. Here, on a clear night (in the winter here at the house--too many leaves any other time!) can see it well...when they say about 900 miles downrange, I start watching in the SE sky, and there it comes!! LOVE IT!
Just a quick "Howdy-do", and then I gotta run. Boy, it's been a week, running back and forth. The plumbing leak at SIL & BIL's house is fixed! Am back home right now to water plants and pick up some of my paper for their printer. My typing exercises are running them low on paper!
Went to the college and got signed up for a 'Medical Terminology' class to take the place of my 'Surgical Instruments' class, which was only 6 weeks long. Have the new class on Monday nights; will have to go in earlier for Keyboarding class, then switch to the 'Terminology' class for the rest of the evening. By the way, I've skipped ahead, and am now in 'Keyboarding IV'!
Must go and watch 2 weeks worth of the new 'Terminology' class lecture videos, and then take 2 weekly tests, and I'll be caught up with everyone else. I think this new schedule is going to work out-- I'll have Wednesdays free to watch class videos and/or take weekly quizzes if necessary.
Almost forgot! Must look for 3 part-time jobs to apply for, to keep the EDD happy with me. Found one on Craigslist that had me ROFLMBO! It's for a Nitpicker! Yup, you heard me right. Would have to drive to L.A. (not paid) for training, and travel (and apparently there's a lot of it) would not be reimbursed, either. Pay is good, but fluctuates, because hours vary. Hmmm... maybe not! Well, prayers for everyone being said, and can't wait to be home full time next week so can get caught up with you guys! Can't get on internet at SIL & BIL's-- their internet protection subscription has expired. Say hello to Hidey for me, please! Hope to be back for just a bit tomorrow. Catch you later, alligator! :o]
Sent a request to D.C. Channel 5 asking for investigation into eagle habitat. Contacted Donna Magelos at Interior but she can't help. Also contacted a friend reported at Associated Press and waiting to hear back. Have also left a message at Fish & Wildlife Services in D.C. Heard an article has appeared in Wash. Post but have not seen it. Had another thought that it might help to contact U.S. Park Service but they likely do not cover St. E's property. I'll check that out as I know a cop there.
Happy to know Anne-Marie is home recouperating. Hope is goes quickly.
Most mornings our patio looks like the old cereal commercial -- kitchen light goes on and they come scrambling down the trees.
Hi, Donka. How've you been? Shirley, what a hoot that is....can that possibly be for real??????? Have my doubts! Hidey is a speedy eaglet! Judie, so neat that you have so many contacts!!! I checked the Post earlier, and found nothing, too. Sure appreciate everyone's effort! BTW...in case anyone missed me telling it before I did my psych rotation at St. E's!
You guys are some of the busiest bees I know! It is very comforting to know that so much of a Punch is being Packed on this St. Elizabeth's Eagle Effort.... I must say that right now I am with you in spirit, have not sent a single letter to anyone, but I think you are carrying the ball so well - I won't beat myself up about it !
My to-do list includes writing down some website and email addresses! I hope to be able to blog a little from Wild and Wonderful Massachusetts.
My naturalist friend in New York reminded me to keep an eye out for Moose along the RR journey once we get farther up North. So any panda naps will have to be taken early if I take them ! ☺
I will say this about Andrea Ms Bookworm: She can keyboard! Rat a tat tat, and nary a typo!
I mentioned to Jo, in an email, that I have not been this excited about an adventure for a long time, but my first Nest Visit and meeting the Momsters on June 7, 2008, comes pretty close ☺
Hi Hedgie, Hi Stronghunter. I'm at work, just peeked in momentarily to see if I could get a peek at our Hidey. She was there!! She's such a beauty.
Hedgie, I'm well, thanks for asking. I haven't been on the blog in a while. I hope all is well with you and the others. It's been a busy and crazy summer here in Binghamton. Too much to share on this site. One big event was that our boat sank on Sunday June 28th. It was transported to our slip in the marina on Friday 6/26, we went up to the lake on Sunday to spend the day on the boat, but it was partially submerged. We left and called our insurance people and by Monday morning it was on the bottom of the marina. There has been so much rain here it seems as if we have no sunshine this summer, so I guess if something like this was going to happen, this was the year!!(LOL) Our insurance carrier is reimbursing us for a total loss of the boat with all the contents in the boat. You know fish finder, fishing gear, life preservers, skis, ropes, nets, wetsuits, etc.
Sorry this was so long. I could go on and on.
My little Miss Roxie (schnauzer) is doing well, goes back to the vet for her check up next week. She's done real good post-op and hopefully will continue to improve. Again, thanks for all of your prayers.
By the way, there are Bears AND Moose in my sister's neck of the woods.
Dana and Hedgie Bear sighting last week near a residence along Route 9 West and Back Creek Valley Road! We are not getting many calls at all at 9-1-1 about them though, not this year.
A fellow English teacher at my school spent a year in Alaska. She brought back pictures of moose in people's yards, etc. If a moose decides to sleep on your deck or in your yard, you just don't use it until the moose decides to leave. At least, I would not mess with a moose.
Yes we did have a good insurance policy. We have had our boat for 10 years now, bought it brand spankin' new in 1999. They have reimbursed us all but a couple thousand dollars. We never could have sold the boat for the replacement value, even before it sank.
And YES HOORAY for Roxie. She's my heart. And sooooo spolied too!!
Glad to hear from you. I need to catch up on the blogs to find out what's been going on. My family reunion on my mother's side is tomorrow, so I will be away from my 'puter for a couple of days.
One story that my friend told me was about a family that had a moose on the deck for some time before they realized that it was dead. They had to call someone to come remove it.
Happy Family times, Donka Marie, yes I think you WILL be busy.
I have a six hour shift tonight from 6 to midnight, then freedom for 9 days. I can hardly contain myself...but I guess I better start packing lunch and get ready.
Great, Judie! Donka, how awful about your boat?? Any idea what caused it to sink? Did the storage facility puncture it with fork truck forks? Or did hauler damage it??? Maybe the insurance company can go back on them?? For you newbies, if interested, check out this site:
Shirley, re: earlier comment about St. E's---I learned to play pool there!!! That was about the only activity that the male patients participated in! It was a sad rotation....mental health care back then was little more than warehousing. Throw in some ECT--electroconvulsivetherapy---and Mellaril= most truly zombie-like.
Paula okay it is "tomorrow" - will look forward to Part I of the video. Hope you have a Do-What-You-Want kind of week-end planned...suspect it might include some Watering unless we get some much-needed rain. Hi Deb, Bye Deb
Hey Ya'll Haven't been on since early today, looks like the DC Eagles sure have a bunch of supporters.I didn't get around to calling Byrd's office today, but will Monday for sure.Paula, sure did get something good started with that first post.Guess I missed the early evening visit from Hidey!!!

Thanks for the new thread on this lovely morning.
Thanks for the new thread! Thanks for coming to get me, Shirley.
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE...
Deb, you have the rain that we are wishing we had. I spent a good part of yesterday watering the garden and my flowers.
Good morning, Deb. It is really early where you are.
I'm sitting here watching my squirrel friend on my back porch.
Shirley, do you still have your grandson?
Good morning, Wanda.
Just on hour earlier here, I have to be to work at 7.
Do you have anything exciting planned for the weekend, Deb?
Wanda . . . today he is at the sitter's. I will have him three days next week.
I usually keep him part of the summer, but he sometimes goes to the sitter so I have days to myself and he keeps his spot at the sitter's.
But with the economy being what it is, may daughter's hours have been cut, so I might keep him more days.
He had a wonderful time at the pool yesterday. He only stopped when they called adult swim times.
I work on Saturday's, Wanda. I haven't thought about Sunday yet.
. . . . that's "my daugher's hours have been cut."
BBL
Have a good day at work, Deb.
Good Friday morning everyone...have a good one:)

Good Morning Deb, Shirley, Wanda, Mits, Bill and Watchers in Eagleland.
Norma I checked the donkey site.
So many donkeys are out and about
everywhere. Light color and dark. It is a bright beautiful day there.
So glad you didn't run off with the "appliance guy". Never know when you'll need the "plumber guy" again.
Person doing cam 1 at zoo had panda. Now is moving all around they can't find panda. Looking everywhere. I think it is maybe Tai. Awww they just found him moving. Now sitting down for some bamboo.
cam 2 showing panda stretched out over rocks outside hanging over
catching some zzzzzzz's
Up close cam on flamingo nest such beautiful pink feathers. I like this close up. ( :
Showing the flamingo putting water on its nest. It keeps dipping beak in water and letting it stream down over nest.
Wanda, I failed to dead-head my potted petunias when I should have, and now they look pretty sad. I moved them to the back, thinking I'll attend to them, and now the hummingbirds have discovered them.
Now the flamingo is adding dirt and feathers to nest.
Shirley that is nice the hummers have discovered them.
Oh there is the cutest white flamingo chick moving around. lol
I just sent a letter to the editor of my local paper about the eagles in DC. We will see what happens.
Noticed that the story has spread to Atlanta.
Sent to the Fredericksburg Free Lance Star:

the wooden egg idea, reminded me of Dr. Sharpe
Shirley, if you like, I can submitt your letter to the Martinsburg Journal Letters to the Editor. It is well written and I think will raise a little ire in our town.
Hey eagle dudettes and dudes.
Here is the reply I got from Audubon:
Hi Lynn,
Thanks for writing. We are looking into this.
Sincerely yours,
Liz Pomper
Online Outreach Coordinator
Audubon Policy Office
Washington, DC
Wanda, use my letter any way you wish--make the appropriate changes so it is local and sign your own name.
The story is spreading. If you Google, it is hitting newspapers around the country.
I just wrote a letter to the reporter for the Fredericksburg paper and referenced him to some of the other stories.
Wanda, in re-reading, I realize I did not say anything local to our area in my letter, but you might think of something to add . . . feel free to do so. You are so very near the Hidey nest, that I am sure you can arouse interest there.
Hidey is squealing away, and is that the day-care I hear in the background? I have heard you all mention it before.
I'm still wondering why the local DC TV stations have not picked up on this, as well as the Washington comPost

You would think the Washington press would get hold of it.
yes, you would think that,Shirley, but they are a different breed, than most news agency, and I don't mean that in a good sense either.

Mits DC does not want any more problems then they have. Like our Inner Harbor unless someone reports a problem you ain't gonna hear about it.
I think the beet juice was a mistake. Tai had it splashed all over him. Have a great day. Wear red.
That IS a beautiful view at the Flamingo cam. Interesting about giving the eggs to other zoos, and the wooden eggs, Mits -

Two babies one adult at Flamingo, precious !
Margy, be prepared to take photos of Ceil and MM jumping up and down as you pass through Baltimore;)
Gotta get out of here. Wash hair and take GG to doctor appt. and go eat crabs:) Have a good day...BBLT
Neat.
I am sending one letter off to email I got for Sierra Club. They have given me also a contact number in Washington DC. (oh boy)
WHOA!--MARGY---would love to take a train trip w/you & JAMES!---take notes---w/want to hear all about your adventure!!----
The flamingo egg exchange is a generous action....but can't help but feel sorry for the mama's who are wondering why their eggs don't hatch.

Yum!
WHOA! --You EAGLE MOMSTER & DADSTERS are quite GOOD letter writers---Plan to send a few to local papers---We have EAGLES in this area!----& the engineer on the 'EAGLE TRAIN' IN ROMNEY----is now carrying a CAMERA -----stops the train for a PHOTO OPTS!---
Shirley, great letter!
Dana, keeping Ed and YOU in my prayers.
Surely I can pass some of this stifling heat off to someone! I have found you can go out early in the morning and after eight at night, but all you can do is sit. If you move, you sweat! I mean you get drenched!
Norma, that is great that the train now stops for photo opts! What do you mean they are carrying a camera?
Ok, reread....the engineer is carrying a camera. LOL So when he sees an eagle, he wants to take a picture. Nice to be in control!!!!
Hope he is watching the track as well as searching the trees and sky for eagles!
Loved that day on the train! So much fun....and our meal afterwards, with elegant company was a blast!
Then that evening at THE NEST with Paula and Deb made it a day never to forget!
Good Eagleland Morning Hedgie-Lynn and Lolly.
I hear hubby is up. Going to go sit with him awhile. I will return later.
Have a good day for those that are heading out.
Time to go eat a bite and excercise. Have lost the couple pounds I gained on vacation. It has come off so easy and I am "maintaining" not dieting. Yea!!!!!!
BBL Have a great Friday!
Watching the BWO chick and parent.
So glad that they have had a successful season!
had sent a sympathy note to Memphis the other day...here is there reply...

amazed they even took the time, when their hearts are breaking:(
Well I had to come back on to tell everyone.
Tai shan is laying on his "cool rock"
I did go to Cumberland!!!---bought a washer & dryer---I don't remember having that many choices last time I bought a washer & dryer!!---But I did 'GET LOST'---I was exhausted when I got home!--(I get lost in my drive)---ho!
That's nice, Helen, thanks for posting that....and so good that you sent your thoughts.
And thank you Dana for sharing the good report about Anne-Marie ☺
TTFN friends, out the door shortly.
xo ☺ ♥
MEMA JO!---I bet you look GORGEOUS----with your new hair-do!!---have you gotten used to a quiet house---I know you must miss them---
I am home for lunch, cloudy but not raining right now.
Flood warnings out for the Vermillion River. The streets were flooded again this morning. Even though we are on top of a bluff, the rain is coming too fast for it to drain and that is causing the street problems. We are supposed to dry out starting tomorrow. I sure hope so.
Deb you may need to use your kayak
to go back to work!
Thanks so much for the report on Anne Marie, Dana. I will keep her in my prayers for her recovery.
Wanda, I don't think we're the "bottom" of anything. Change that term to "grassroots."
Need to find some lunch food....
BBL
Sent a news tip about the eagle nest to Channel 7 in Washington. Will see what happens.
NORFORK 'REBEL' is branching at the NORFORK nest!---a huge scary outline of an INSECT can also be seen!!!---WOW!
Time to head back to work, BBL
SHIRLEY---You could send your own letter to the SHEPHERDSTOWN paper---you are a member of the 'NCTC BLOG'!
Doesn't hurt if they hear from other people. Here is a link to the news tip page for WJLA, Channel 7, in Washington.
Link to DC Channel 7
I'll think about that, Norma. Might try to write something new, just for a little variety though.
DEB!---Remember--you won't be there too long!!---I would think you have an ideal schedule---Sorry to hear about ROGER'S windows & flowers!!---
Okay, my squirrel friend is burying pieces of pecan nuts under the little mounds of grass left over from mowing the back yard. I guess the birds or other animals will find them there.
Busy little squirrel.
Looks like the Shepardstown paper is the one in Martinsburg. Think my letter has already been sent there.
Lynn, let them compete! Fine with me.
. . . Just so long as they don't go down and disturb the eagles. Guess we should think about that.
Shirley - there is a difference between Martinsburg and the Shepherdstown papers... I'll send you some links in an email.
HEY SHIRLEY!!---You feed your squirrels 'PECANS' & mine only get left over 'BIRD SEEDS'---When word gets out---you will be knee deep in 'SQUIRRELS!!!!---ho!
The pecans were leftovers from Christmas. I thought they might be getting a bit stale, but figured the birds and squirrels would not care.
Thanks, Jo. I also have to remember how to spell Shepherdstown. I always want to put an "a" in it.
MEMA JO!---Check your 'comments' from GLO! on a message left for you---in re: me & a video!!
Norma - where is the message to Glo located for me to see.....
HEDGIE---I think I am correct in telling you that ANNE-MARIE (was) a nurse---because I couldn't understand why she would give up that job to work in an office----She said being a nurse -- just wore her out!
You can catch a glimpse of the little otters at NZ, Norma.
I am going for a panda nap - short one I think!
BBL
JO---It is with your PIC OF TREE
under the "NCTC CAM DAILY"----(on your site)----pics are when we went to see EAGLE---1st time!
Sent a letter to the National Eagle Center---I had forgotten about them! For anyone who doesn't know their site, here it is:
NEC
HEDGIE & SHIRLEY---You two certain write well!---Wish I could---
NEED FOOD---
I'll take your word for it, Norma! Funny that she never mentioned it to me.
Shirley, Shepherdstown paper is a weekly.
Chronicle
That link didn't work. Trying again!
Chronicle
That works!
Thanks, Norma....I wasn't a journalist for "nothin'"...HO!!!!
Seems to me that you write very well, Norma. The purpose of writing is communication, and you do communicate with us every day . . . well, almost every day. You went missing there for awhile.
Lynn, when did you work as a journalist?
Thanks for the link, Lynn.
Just sent email off using a lot of Shirley's letter and more to the email addy I have been given to: Sierra Club DC National Chapter.
I got mine off to them yesterday, Dana.
Lynn, didn't know that about squirrel nests. I think there is one out back. But it's very high up.
I have also emailed the letter to myoutdoortv.com so they can be aware. They also have a news section.
My kids and I got fairly close to a shuttle launch once. We stopped on the roadside near the launch site. The sound was amazingly loud even miles away.
We saw the shuttle take off and then this huge roar came rolling at us.
Good idea, Dana.
LOVE IT!
Haven't ever done that, Lynn. Will have to try it.
Hi, Everyone!
Andrea, know you are gone...but wondering what in the world a Nitpicker job consists of!!! ROF, too!!
Hello everyone,
Sent a request to D.C.
Best to all,
Judie
I guess Andrea is too busy, but it would almost be worth some time to go to an interview just to see what it's about.
Nitpicker Job
Still cannot find a story about the eagle nest in the Washington Post.
Hidey!
Heard squealing all the way across the room and in the kitchen. Saw an adult and Hidey in nest. Adult left. Hidey still there.
Hello Hidey!!
Hello Hidey!!
Donka, it seems that it is just you and me right now. The others are missing the show.
Looked away and Hidey disappeared.
Lynn . . . you have to be talking about the nitpicker thing. I know. I just thought, YEEEECH! No thanks!
Must have been an interesting roataion, Lynn.
Hello, again.
I did see Hidey but, as noted, he/she is fast on the wing.
Just sent an electronic letter to the editor at Washington Post. Borrowed from the well-written words of Shirley? Well, it was worth a try.
Cheers,
Judie
You guys are some of the busiest bees I know! It is very comforting to know that so much of a Punch is being Packed on this St. Elizabeth's Eagle Effort....
I must say that right now I am with you in spirit, have not sent a single letter to anyone, but I think you are carrying the ball so well - I won't beat myself up about it !
Good Eagle Friday Afternoon ☺ ♥
Dana and Hedgie
Bear sighting last week near a residence along Route 9 West and Back Creek Valley Road! We are not getting many calls at all at 9-1-1 about them though, not this year.
Donka Marie
Wow, that is crazy about your boat, but hurray for a good insurance policy!
and Yay about Roxie too ☺
We always enjoy THAT kind of good news !
And good for you, you saw Hidey !
I hear a Mockinbird at OUR nest ! ♪ ♫
I would love to see Katherine Bibee jump on here and tell us how things are going with her...
And everyone else that we have not "seen" for awhile
A fellow English teacher at my school spent a year in Alaska. She brought back pictures of moose in people's yards, etc. If a moose decides to sleep on your deck or in your yard, you just don't use it until the moose decides to leave. At least, I would not mess with a moose.
Great Judie!
I'll be looking at the Washington Post's editoral page to see what they do.
Oh yes, Stronghunter, and you all might be interested in Moosewatch though now it is not active, but check out the pictures !!
Moose Watch, Utah
And Another great site:
Okie Bird Cam, Edmond, Oklahoma
Hot Dog I love it when those blue links work !!
Hi Magpie,
Yes we did have a good insurance policy.
Everyone have a blessed and happy day!
Nice links, Margy.
One story that my friend told me was about a family that had a moose on the deck for some time before they realized that it was dead. They had to call someone to come remove it.
Oh my, Shirley.... that is unbelievable.
Happy Family times, Donka Marie, yes I think you WILL be busy.
I have a six hour shift tonight from 6 to midnight, then freedom for 9 days. I can hardly contain myself...but I guess I better start packing lunch and get ready.
I'll have a peek at comments before I leave.
Happy Friday Afternoon and Evening to all
God Bless Us, Every One
Great, Judie!
Donka, how awful about your boat?? Any idea what caused it to sink? Did the storage facility puncture it with fork truck forks? Or did hauler damage it??? Maybe the insurance company can go back on them??
For you newbies, if interested, check out this site:
Moose Cam
Not active now--out of season--but scroll through and look at Pook's pics!! Amazing!
It is in Utah.
Donka, glad that Roxie is recovering well.
Aww, shucks, missed the quick Hidey visit.
That nitpicker job surely was put up as a joke...
A bear visited a Giant Food Store in Stafford, VA...sniffed the carts in the front of the store and them ambled away!
That would be very near me. I am happy that I did not run across that bear.
Oh-oh....weather conditions deteriorating for shuttle launch tomorrow evening...
I had heard earlier today that it wasn't too promising for a launch.
It would have to be depressing to work in those circumstances, Hedgie.
It could never have been my field of practice, that's for sure!
I am home for the day and need to get the front lawn mowed. It hasn't rained since this morning with nothing on the radar screen!
Okay - time to make like a pea and split...
Paula okay it is "tomorrow" - will look forward to Part I of the video. Hope you have a Do-What-You-Want kind of week-end planned...suspect it might include some Watering unless we get some much-needed rain.
Hi Deb, Bye Deb
Sayonara Eagle Pals
See you Saturday sometime.
xo ☺ ♥
Hey Ya'll
Haven't been on since early today, looks like the DC Eagles sure have a bunch of supporters.I didn't get around to calling Byrd's office today, but will Monday for sure.Paula, sure did get something good started with that first post.Guess I missed the early evening visit from Hidey!!!
Hidey is singing for us again.
I hear Hidey, too. I am procrastinating mowing the front yard.
All's quiet in Hidey-land!
The splotch looks bigger to me.
I do hear Hidey now...
Hi Paula, I think the splotch just kind of grows and shrinks. Maybe it has something to do with the shifting light
How long has the splotch been there?
Since Hidey came into the world...maybe sometime in mid to late April...
