Wednesday, April 01, 2009 “FRESH Fish” On week has passed since the last of the three eaglets hatched. All three are growing quickly and are highly active. The youngest sometimes has a bit of a hard time during feedings, but the adults are providing plenty of food and all three chicks seem to be getting adequate food.
The male twice brought live prey to the nest this morning. First the male landed with a VERY much alive American Eel. The eel created much excitement at the nest as it escaped...at least temporarily. It was recaptured and brought back to the nest. later in the morning the male brought what appears to be a Hickory Shad to the nest. Again this prey was still very active and flopped around the nest. Although these eaglets are still to young to deal with prey themselves this exposure to live prey items is the first step in their development as hunters.
A sharp eyed camera viewer captured both feeding episodes and has posted them: Eel: http://s468.photobucket.com/albums/rr50/DJ4352/NBG%20Eagle%202009/Apr%202009/?action=view¤t=TheGreatEelEscape.flv

Well, we've had some light rain in So Cal also ... puddle covering the first landing on the stairs ... and I think we may get more.
But I was looking at the Old Faithful site earlier and noticed it had snowed a couple of inches at least. Just looked back, and it looks like they are in the middle of a cloud and the snow is coming down again.
They've had an unusually mild winter there, but now that Spring has arrived, it's really getting snowed in. Ha!
I was hoping they would cancel the Winter Storm for tomorrow for me. Well, they did, but not the way I wanted them to. My new forecast: ... BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM SATURDAY TO 1 PM CDT SUNDAY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SIOUX FALLS HAS ISSUED A BLIZZARD WARNING... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM SATURDAY TO 1 PM CDT SUNDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
RAIN MIXED WITH SNOW WILL BECOME WIDESPREAD SATURDAY MORNING... CHANGING COMPLETELY TO SNOW BY LATE AFTERNOON. THE SNOW WILL CONTINUE SATURDAY NIGHT... BEFORE TAPERING OFF BY LATE SUNDAY MORNING. THE SNOW COULD BE HEAVY AT TIMES... WITH 10 TO 15 INCHES POSSIBLE. THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL OCCUR SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 90. IN ADDITION TO THE SNOWFALL... WINDS WILL BECOME NORTHEAST TO NORTH AND INCREASE TO 25 TO 35 MPH SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE INTO SUNDAY MORNING... CREATING BLIZZARD CONDITIONS.
There are probably some people who will hit the store. I can kind of understand the farmers, they could get snowed in a few days, if we really get the storm, still lots of time to cancel it, I hope!
Good afternoon, eagle buds. FINALLY out of the penalty box. Caught up on blog, but still weeding through mail! Haven't been on momster mail in two days! Still need to go there. Deb, horrible forecast...no fun. Please get ready and stay safe--don't forget flashlight and radio batteries!!!

Ok, this is making me nervous, she needs to get back on that baby before it blows out of the nest. And, yes I know, they know what they are doing but I still worry!
Runaway family update: The Knox County sheriff's says during a conversation with her mother, Rowena Schade said they left because they felt social services was going to take their children. Schade told her mom they returned to Knox County to get their second vehicle, a 1994 Red Jeep with Nebraska license #12F982.
Schade told her mom the family had "another plan" and if things didn't work out, they would go "where no one would ever find them."
Okay, have cam up, finally! After finishing mail, etc., I rebooted, and now cam is fine. You can tell the kind of winds we are having....it is NOT pleasant! Look at the squirrel tale flapping!
Hi Lynn - I sure hope she stays hunkered down in that nest.
Earlier I mentioned that I wished we had an OFF for the volume. Don't know if Chris was reading our comments BUT the volume now goes off when you slide the volume control all the way to the left!

Nest Update
04/03/09:
Here's another look at one of our mating shots. It appears that our male has coloring on his chest, which might make identification harder.
The main gender clues for ospreys are usually size (females are bigger) and chest coloring (North American males usually have no color).

Wanda, the 'web address' you and Magpie mentioned is also 'clickable'... I tried it, and it gets you to the camera as well.
For now, though, I've just made a separate entry in my browser menu for the Live Feed.
It will no doubt be straightened out soon.

We could still use sound controls, including and on-off switch, on the Live Feed.
I was trying to do some work on another page while listening to some music, but the sound of wind and rain from the Feed was drowning everything out.
I could either shut the site down...need it later though, or do what I did. I picked a video (Okefenokee) to the right, and then I put it on pause.
It works, but it's certainly the long way around.

Raining here again....off and on downpours!
No trouble w/ other cams. Surely I don't have to remove and reinstall flash and shock everyday!
maybe you have to do it again, since Hughes had you shut down
I think those osprey at BWO are just partying...all I ever see is them eating fish, and hear about HP, LOL
Lynn, trying turning off your computer.
Belle is still hunkered down in the nest w/ Hidey.
Sounded like Lib hollerin up in the tree.
Amazing how much they can puff out their feathers...Belle looks twice her normal size!
Wow, that wind is horrible. Thank God they are protecting Hidey. I am surprise Mr. Squirrel is still there.
Oh that squirrel isn't going anywhere...except in someone's tummy.
Man, look at Belle, riding the nest.
Hidey is getting some of that tasty squirrel for dinner too!
Ok, this is making me nervous, she needs to get back on that baby before it blows out of the nest. And, yes I know, they know what they are doing but I still worry!
More spaghetti for dinner!
Oh yuck Paula!!
ROFLMAO...I think half that poop shoot ended up back in the nest!
OK, so don't watch the video~! ROFL
Boy that Hidey sure can pack it away.
Heading home...catch ya later!
Runaway family update:
The Knox County sheriff's says during a conversation with her mother, Rowena Schade said they left because they felt social services was going to take their children.
Belle better not get up off our baby.....he/she will surely blow out of the nest.
So great to have the volume control. Zoom seems to be clearer than it was yesterday--not as fuzzy. Thanks NCTC and OutdoorTV people!
I have never seen our nest swing & sway like the NBG nest BUT those winds must be really high!
Hidey keeps trying to stick head out from underneath Belle! Don't SMOTHER me, Mom!
I sure hope that Belle has her talons dug into that nest....
Hi, Jo! How are ya', gal??
Oh, it's really terrible here, Jo.
That little Hidey is a peeking out from under!!! lol Too cute!

Hi Lynn - I sure hope she stays hunkered down in that nest.
Earlier I mentioned that I wished we had an OFF for the volume. Don't know if Chris was reading our comments BUT the volume now goes off when you slide the volume control all the way to the left!
going to have to hang on..
Swaying nest is making me woozy, and I'm afraid to watch Hidey....shut 'er down! Not going to be any better tomorrow it sounds like.
Hubby picked up twigs & branches today from the yard in hopes of mowing tomorrow. There are sure to be more limbs come down with winds that strong.
Hi Helen!
split coming...
my volume still is on even if it goes all the way to the left, but sound is really low there
split done
