thanks....Steven and Deb, beautiful pic of the couple:)

magpie said...

Past Tense....WAS in our nest....

hedgie said...

Just saw my hawk again! He doesn;t stay long enough to get a pic, tho'!

magpie said...

Hi Hedgie -
You are so fortunate to have that hawk at your homestead. I hope you get a pic. I was able to capture a pic of the Strange Bird at Over the Finland nest, but don't know how to send it to anyone...

Sounds like there was some pretty good nest action this morning, all of which I missed...but I saw some good things on the Osrpey Sites in Scotland..

Good Evening To All...

xo

magpie said...

Oh yes, before I forget, there was a sighting of a large black bear up in the Marlowe area today...(northern Berkeley County..)
I wanted to leave work and go see...

Costume Lady said...

Hi, Margy & Lynn...
Margy, where did you send the photo after you clicked on it?

NatureNut said...

What a great Eagle Pair. Thx, Steve & Deb!
BTW, someone spotted an eagle flying over the river today. There were mostly ospreys, but once the sun hit that white tail, we knew for sure. Didn't get good pic---too far away.
Had to send pics of Bob on the trip today to him and have worked on some to start the "series". Since I don't do big albums yet, I'm going to post 5 at a time (best ones) as usual-------but first, FOOD!
Also, Suz said on her way home, she was stopping at Wallymart to have her pics put on a CD while she picked up kitty food!So we all got pics to share.

I found this information about the place Buddy is at on the Hancock forum:

This video features Ed Clark, some staffers and some wildlife patients, and gives an overview of WCV's work. Ed used to have a show on Animal Planet called "Wildlife Rescue". It was a great show; if you can find re-runs or videos, well worth watching!

Eaglet alert!!

Costume Lady said...

SEVERE STORM ALERT FOR EASTERN PANHANDLE...Raining very hard and the wind has leaves blowing all over our yard...

Costume Lady said...

Looks like one of our mountaineers is getting wet. Really hunkered down.

deb said...

Eagle at Kent 1.

Costume Lady said...

Our storm is over...power went out twice for a short while. Our neighbor (about 500 ft away from us) is without power. He and Gene have gone down the road to see if a tree is down. These storms are scary because they can turn very ugly without warning in our area. I hear it thundering again.. hope it is just passing by.

deb said...

I only see one eaglet at LW. According to the Eagle Information Table, they shouldn't fledge until July 12. Parent in nest feeding one eaglet.

Costume Lady said...

We needed this rain so badly. I watered my peppers and squash, so, of course it rained. I saw on the news that the severe weather alert was in Meggy's area, so hopefully her flowers have had a good watering. She can rest well tonight knowing that.

deb said...

I hope this one blows over, too, Wanda. No storms here today, just rain.

Osprey Banding

Mema Jo said...

Wow Bob - Great Teaser! Glad you are as anxious to post them as we are to see them! Really glad the 3 of you got together to do this

Mema Jo said...

I just signed in - rain has hit our area - I can hear thunder but don't see the lightening - maybe it is going around the valley. Jenny in Knoxville has lost her electricity.
Hope ours stays on......

Mema Jo said...

We had a picnic meal after returning from church this evening with some of the family. I was looking forward to firework display over at the Middletown park - but now it will be postponed until tomorrow.
Heading in to watch some TV or if nothing on I'll be playing games on the computer........

Costume Lady said...

BOB, I am ROTFLMBO! Suz has her hands full! Thank you so much for the photos. I needed that.

We suspect we had a small tornado pass through here. We have a tree down, as do all our neighbors. Power lines are all over the roads and we have Fire Trucks and emergency vehicles out front. Gene has just gone out to see what they think has happened.

NatureNut said...

Hi All, I got one set of osprey pics---mostly people. Had trouble w/Blogger---there's too much space between the pics, but didn't want to waster time now trying to EDIT, Duh. There are 5, so keep scrolling.
More to come...,
(Do you want more people???We also got the place them back in the nest, but I can add those later)

NatureNut said...

Just saw Bob's---I just posted the same thing!

hedgie said...

Margy...thought I heard you on air again, and figured they had called you back! Too bad. What a mess...we were lucky back this way...about 5 mins. of high winds and ,aybe 2 mins. of rain! More coming tho'...just heard that it's already passed thru' Morgantown....and headed this way. There was also a bear sighting along 81 around the 12 a couple of days ago!

hedgie said...

Great pics of Suz and Loretta, Bob. Post more!

hedgie said...

Jo and Paula...think it's going to take a miracle for the Nat's to pull it out tonight! Congrats!

NatureNut said...

Bloger had ERRORS w/my last set &^%$,&%@, so I just added 1 small video. There are people talking, too, but I never heard this before.
BBS---need coffee

Costume Lady said...

Our neighbor called Allegheny Power and told them the lines were down and lying on the road and they said THEY WERE CLOSED! Fire trucks came to keep traffic from coming up our road and running into the lines, but no Power Company people has shown up. Maybe Margy will have a report for us. When the Power Co.told our neighbor that they were closed, he called 911, so maybe Margy took the call.

Costume Lady said...

Lord, have mercy, I don't know what this town would do if we had a terrorist attack!

hedgie said...

Wanda...is your power still on or do you have a laptop?
Where are our Bluefield/Bedford gang today? Norma must be out on the town tonight!

Costume Lady said...

Lynn, my power is still on. The computer went off for a short while, saying I had no internet connection, but after a few boots, it came back on. We are on a separate power line from our neighbors.

hedgie said...

Central has notified Allegheny, Wanda...closed as in no live person to answer the phone? Whenever I call 1-800-ALLEGHENY they know right away where I'm calling from, that they know its out and tell me (by recording) approx. how long until power comes back on. At any rate, they have to call out the crews when bad weather stuff happens. If there's not an outage, it can take them forever, because outages come first. They don't care about someone getting fried w/ a live wire!

Costume Lady said...

Bluefield girls are usually first on here on Saturday mornings. They must have been listening to "Camp Stories" from Mattie all day. LOL

NatureNut said...

Wanda, I can't believe the Power Co. is CLOSED!
We're getting socked down here,too--thunderstorm, hard rain.
BTW, I read in AM that Mits' sister Ceil was still ill on her trip.Wonder if she had some meds to take w/her. or she needs to stop & see someone. We've had to see docs while out of town-one in FL even took credit cards over 25 yrs ago!!

Costume Lady said...

Our neighbor's power is out. It must be so hot down there. They have several grandchildren spending the Summer there. They are the one's who have a tree down on the wires. All our other neighbors who have trees down, don't have any on the wires. Gene said the Firetruck driver told him they had to stop and saw up trees across the road to get here. Our neighbor up the road was waiting on someone to come with a saw and help them when the Firetruck came upon their tree and hopped out and sawed it up for them! Hooray for them!!

hedgie said...

Did anyone hear about the dolphins in a river in Jersey? It was on the news at 6pm...will probably repeat at 11, at least on DC and Balt. channels! Mits is looking in the wrong place!

hedgie said...

Our volunteer companies are great! WOO-HOO!

hedgie said...

Hey, all you local folks...Never heard the final decision, but it sounded like they were going to postpone the Jefferson Co. fireworks at Sam Michaels' Park. I think the "rain" date was tomorrow night...hope they have better luck if they did have to reschedule.

deb said...

Great pictures, Bob and Loretta. Suzanne looks so excited holding that chick.

NatureNut said...

I'm going to attempt to add some more pics. I wonder if rain affects Blogger? LOL

Mema Jo said...

Loretta - I love the captions you have on your photos! Menace!!! lol
The photos are beautiful.

MITS said...

WOW, sounds like some wicked weather going on...it has been very pleasant here today, hot, but not too humid, yep, looking for the dolphins in the wrong area, they are in NJ river.....yes, Ceil is still sick with the acute tonsillitis, but Lynne she is a firm believer in the home remedies, like warm salt water, don't think she can take the aspergum....Loretta, I really do hope they stop, but doubt that she will til she gets to Oregon....so glad you and Suz and Bob had a good time today....will look at pics tomorrow night when hubby goes back home....GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE, BE SAFE:)

Mema Jo said...

Hedgie- Middletown went ahead with their fireworks. I thought it was another storm with lots and lots and lots of thunder but no lightening!
Then I looked at back through the trees and could see the reds, blues, greens and white sparkling lights.

I was going over to my son's to view them from his yard - he said they stood out with an umbrella and enjoyed them.

NatureNut said...

Wow, Jo, it let you see them so soon. I don't like the big spaces it's doing between pics, but went back in to Edit & they look fine there! DUH..oh well!
At the first nest we stopped to look at, & this is one where Greg had banded TU, a young boy saw a bird down in the water. Greg got it out & of all horrors it was the Mother Osprey. This nest is up river from Vis. Ctr. & I could see it some between the trees. He said he had only seen one adult for a couple days. Did forensic exam & assumed she probably covered the chicks & was attacked by a Great Horned Owl since she was right under the nest platform. He thinks chicks are old enough to withstand temps. He had me take pics of him holding up the remains which I won't post here.

Mema Jo said...

Sounds as though you had all kinds of experiences today. Sad about the mother but glad she was found - I'm sure Gregg will keep an eye on that nest until they fledge.

Mema Jo said...

Closing down for this evening

Good Night everyone

Good night all. Sleep tight!
Storm watches all canceled.

paula eagleholic said...

Evening, all!

Haven't checked out the pics yet - will do so in a minute.

Son and DIL and 2 grandsons came down for parade and cooked out for dinner, played w/ dogs, etc. We were waiting to head up to fireworks when the storm started - wasn't bad here, some heavy rain and wind, then just a nice rain. I went up to see if the fireworks were still on for Emmitsburg and they were! We drove up and put up back of their van and stood under it and sat in the back waiting for the fireworks.

The rain eventually stopped and they finally started late at 10:15 and lasted 25 minutes. They were really great!

paula eagleholic said...

Great pics, Bob. I see Melanie was there along w/ 2 featherheads....was Karen the lady in the pink shirt? And I also recognize the lady w/ the 2 kids...I think they were on my trip last year.

Great pics!

Loretta - glad you and Suz and Bob all got to meet, and you grabbed a bite afterwards. Suz looks really excited in Bob's pic.

paula eagleholic said...

Here's Melanie's pics...still looking to see who else from the Puleston Osprey cam was there

Melanie's pics

NatureNut said...

Paula, Don't know who other lady was. Melanie said a couple couldn't come. I'm gonna have to buy Bob's group pic--I didn't get one. In fact when I first saw his pics, I only saw Suz & me.
Lucky you--fireworks!! I love em!

More tomorrow, unless you are all tired of seeing ospreys!!!!
Nighty=Night!

Hi All! Fantastic pictures Bob and Loretta!! So glad you all had such a fantastic day!

Wanda, sorry about your storms. We have had storms in the area, but so far we have had only a second of light sprinkling. We need rain!!!! Possible more chances of rain later on tonight.

Wanda - sorry you had such a bad storm around you. We lucked out!

Gnite, all. Hope you have a good day at the market, Megan.

magpie said...

Whew....!!! That was some storm here in Berkeley County, most in the Gerrardstown area, and the city of Martinsburg. WE GOT CLOBBERED!

BUT FIRST! NatureNut and Bob, and Melanie - your photos are awesome as is the write up from NN and Bob on the trip...thanks for giving us some views.

Chicks at Loch Garten active and Wingersizing right now, daylight there.

More in a minute.

magpie said...

JUST A LITTLE OVERVIEW:
I got called back into work. The worst call, was a stretch of road in Gerrardstown (Southern part of our County) where 9 utility poles got blown down, with live wires; also a house in Martinsburg with live wires on top and all around it; The tree in Wanda's neighborhood got a hot response, and we had dozens, literally, of calls with trees down on power lines. Berkeley County had app 5,000 customers without power. HEDGIE: You are correct, both our volunteers and the city fire department people were GREAT, so attentive and helpful. The repairs and clean up will take a long time...I'm sure they were bringing in Utility crews from surrounding states to help too. We could fax them all our information, and we have some "hot lines" to get through.
I haven't been THAT busy at work in a long time; I am getting TOO OLD for this stuff..

I hope everyone is OKAY that is reading this, no serious damage...
I'm pretty pooped, but was happy to read some good news, about the banding trip and such, and that some of "yous'ns" didn't get affected too badly.

Back to work at 0700, so sleep time will be short.

NATURE NUT AND SUZ: You two looked beautiful in the photos!

Take Care all, Love and Prayers.

Mag, You are too kind. The birds look better than I do, even tho I got a facial! They're younger, that's the ticket!!!
Am I punchy yet?
More pics going on.

Pleasant Dreams to all

Good Morning, All.
Empty Nest this morning..so far.
I had the NCTC nest on my mind while at work last night...wondering if it was taking a pounding in the storm. Nest looks okay...Now how is the Eagle Family...?

Loretta has posted many more photos, so have a beautiful trip to her site! Just phenomenal...

Nice six-point buck in velvet at PixController this morning...

magpie said...

Oh my God - three eaglets in the nest right now !

magpie said...

And now just one...looks like Tiny! Be still my heart. It was all feathers and wings the first time, happened so fast, not even sure it was three or just two.....

magpie said...

The cam time is about ten mins different from my computer time...
Sorry I couldn't capture the sight and paste it somewhere...no live feed either...but they were there!
And now, empty nest again. But I am a happy camper seeing them before heading to work again....

magpie said...

Sea Eagles seem to be leaving the nest some, maybe just branching. I think I see banding on their legs.
At LOCH GARTEN, Mother Osrpey seemed to be trying to remove some of the remains of the chick, and the two chicks WOULD NOT allow it! They were pecking quite vigorously at her while she seemed to be trying to fuss with it.
