Cam Problems Update

We have identified the source of the signal problems we've all seen this week. Our microwave signal is being blocked partially by some tree limbs that have leafed out really well, and that may have been impacted by the storms over the past week.

We've requested that the limbs be trimmed. Hopefully it will happen today.

Come on now guys - as someone said earlier today - think about the tornados, the floods and the earthquakes - how bad is missing Tiny's fledge compared to those events? By attitude is to be greatful for every minute the camera did work.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Shouldn't it be suppertime at the sycamore tree?

MITS said...

I wish it were suppertime here, I'm hungry

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

We actually got to see more of Baby Littley's fledge than we did Ms. Inbetween 2 years ago. The live feed was totally down then.

MITS said...

I guess in NCTC defense, they can't really go close to the nest until after July 4th, as the signs say on the property..or I guess til they have fledged....it was what it was;)

glo said...

Yep suppertime should be coming in BUT so is more weather for me so think I have to close down. Please would someone share a video this way. I also will have to get myself to work tonight. so will miss actioan at the nest tonight. Help please would be so appreciated if you get soemthign worth sharing on teh FTLOE BLOG

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Sis cooked fresh green beans and new potatoes and the Colonel cooked biscuits and fried chicken. Wonderful supper!

MITS said...

well I would rather have this year than last year;)

glo said...

You are only hearing IA for soem reason today and the boy Scouts is tremendously sad. I just want to say I live 5 mins drive from Davenport IF I can get to the bridge. Locks and Dams are closing, barge traffic is being stoppbed. Streets are blocked off and artificial sandbags are being filled ont he Davenport side as they have always chosen to not build a levy. They want the natural river edge effect. Many of the eagle pictures I share are taken from the riverfront in Davenport. OK ttyl if not tonight ...tomorrow

MITS said...

I was just going to ask what she was cooking....I got some pot roast leftover from freezer, and we will have salad....

MITS said...

still to hot for oven, and grilling....

MITS said...

was just watching that on the news, Glo

ceil said...

Sharon we had fried chicken, I had sweet potatoes and salad.

ceil said...

Sharon we had fried chicken and I had sweet potatoes and salad.

magpie said...

What is the little fluffy brown thing to the bottom right of the nest? Am I just imagining that it is a little eagle?
Just got to read all the news about the fledge, and see Paula's videos. Thanks, Paula.
Wonder how many will return to the nest tonight? Maybe all will return for a celebration reunion.

magpie said...

Wouldn't ya just like to be down at NCTC right now and watch everything from the ground up?

ceil said...

I have been thinking that all day magpie. Would love to be at the nest.

Red said...

Thanks for the Photos Paula. I was looking in the wrong place for them. You got lots. Thank you, Thank you and THANK YOU.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Magpie, I sure would love to be at the nest, tonight and every night! :)

magpie said...

Yes, Ceil, with everyone that was there Saturday, and then some!
Tickled to death about chick hatch at Finney's - thought something was cooking there the last few days.

MITS said...

I see it too, don't know what it is

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Magpie, what brown fluffy thing? And - did you get my email?

magpie said...

Whoops! Make the Eagle-Eyed Sharon, And Ceil too! Ssame comment, except for my boo-boo

MITS said...

maybe we can open up a B&B, on the road where we were sitting, what a view that would be

magpie said...

Going to Yahoo emails next E-E-S.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Wow, wouldn't that be wonderful, L&B's B&B!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

We could watch everything from there and be tick-free!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

ROFLMBO!! I was sitting trying to figure out what E-E-S meant! :)

MITS said...

yes, no ticks allowed

MITS said...

Sissy can be the cook:)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Remember when we would post so many comments in succession, that the blog would block us as a spammer for hours?

MITS said...

I.m still trying to figure it out???????

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Absolutely, she is a really good cook! Almost as good as Daddy!

MITS said...

it just blocked me a few minutes ago

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I am thinking Eagle-Eyed Sharon - get it E-E-S?

Terrible flooding in Cedar Rapids, IA, my late grandparents home town. No quick relief in sight. And what devastation at the Boy Scout camp.

deb said...

I am back and you are all making me hungry. I am going to have Chicken Ceasar salad for dinner, quick and easy.

hedgie said...

How's day shift going, MAgpie? I've heard you now that I know what you sound like!!!

magpie said...

OH, I am glad I earned an ROFLMBO!
You guessed it Sharon! And I just went to yahoo and did a little composing..thank you so much.
The little brown thing lower right at the nest, just my imagination, probably just some nest debris, I guess I just want to see an eaglet that bad! Now, who will see one first tonight and tell the rest of us about it? xoxo to All

magpie said...

Ooh, deer at the salt lick at PixController in Pa..I saw my first "real fawn" in tall grass with several other adult deer in Morgan County the other night...

magpie said...

..but the cam at the salt lick looks like our cam from this morning..saw a racoon there the other night and he seemed totally disinterested in the lick.
HEDGESVILLER: I think dayshift is going to be a nice change. I have been such a night bug for 18 months it will take a little adjusting...I will think of you when I key up the "mike" at work and try to talk right! Thanks for asking.

MITS said...

our cam going a little wacky, bet one of the eagles is close by

magpie said...

A few last loving looks at the Loon Cam before it shuts down. That has been a good one...

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Hello everyone. I been reading where Sharon is bragging on my cooking. She knows which side her bread is buttered on, don't she.

I was reading about the fawn. Some people I know here in Bluefield found twins the other evening on the road. They went to the Farm Bureau and bought something to feed them. They are no bigger than a small dog, must have just been born. Now they don't know what they are going to do with them. Told them to call the Animal Shelter, don't know of anything else around here.

MITS said...

I know, I just glanced at it...

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

I had a deer come in my yard a couple of months ago. Ran immediately to Tractor Supply and bought a salt lick and deer corn. Ain't seen it since. But if she comes back, I am ready. We live in the city limits so it was kind of wild. Had her and my first 2 Baltimore Orioles that day.

hedgie said...

Sissy,
Tell them to call DNR about the deer. Our state law forbids "civilians" to keep them, but they may know of a nearby certified rehabber. So much of the time when people find fawns alone they think something has happened to mama, but most of the time she has just gone off to feed; she usually nests them down in a safe place and tells them to "stay" but guess they are just like kids!!!

hedgie said...

Sissy,
Also against state law to feed them!! They consider it baiting, even tho' we aren't going to shoot them!!

magpie said...

Don't see any birds at Harrisburg.
Just bird debris! See a lot of trains there, and finally saw the ferry that many have mentioned at Over the Water Finland nest (In the middle of the night this morning)

Mema Jo said...

One of the forums is saying that there are 2 osprey chicks in the Finney 2008 nest.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Right, sometimes we think we are doing good when we really are just messing things up. Mother Nature really does a great job without our help. I will let them know where to go for help. Thanks alot H-viller.

Mema Jo said...

That is a beautiful fawn in the PA woods. I hadn't seen very many recently.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

I am all packed up and ready to go to the lake in the morning. Wish I was there now. My dogs have been flipping, thinking we are leaving tonight.

Mema Jo said...

Of course once I comment they change camera views and really are just switching back & forth. Don't know what you will see when you look!

deb said...

We have an eagle in the nest. I can't guess who it is between the fuzziness.

magpie said...

Juvie at our nest !

magpie said...

And two birds back at Harrisburg, hovering over a meal...

Mema Jo said...

Both my cams are miserable
I think one is in the nest......

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

is there still a juvie in the nest? i can't see a thing.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

yeah, can see a little bit. Can anyone tell which one?

Mema Jo said...

Thanks Deb & Magpie for seeing it also....

Mema Jo said...

Sissy - can't be sure
Looks large enough to be Pearl

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

guess they didn't get the limb trimmed today, huh?

magpie said...

Didn't look like Baby Littley, for the few good seconds of viewing that there was...

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Yeah, I think it probably is pearl but from this view, I can't even tell if it is a bird.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Baby Littley finally stepped out on faith today, bless her little heart. Hope she soars and soars.

Mema Jo said...

LOL Before I posted I read your comment Sissy - I was about to say
the very same thing... the tree trimmers didn't show up today!

deb said...

I think there are two eaglets now.

magpie said...

Yup, I think I "see" two now also.

Costume Lady said...

Problem must have something to do with presence of eagles in the nest. It was working well

magpie said...

Parent up from the nest cup at Finney's - I think I see a little tee-tiny head....

magpie said...

Make that two tee-tiny heads at Finney's...how cool...

Costume Lady said...

It's like the movement of the birds does something to the cam. Loose connection maybe.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Wish could see better, so I know whether or not to worry about
Baby Littley. Can see animals on a camera in Finland and can't see it right up the road. Technology, huh?

magpie said...

You got that right, "Sis"ter.

magpie said...

New life in a big nest up close and personal, in color, and always clear, Finney's!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Gonna sign off so i can pack my laptop. Want to be ready to go as soon as I get up in the morning!! Ya'll have a good evening.

magpie said...

Off in the distance, maybe Loonies and Bloonies...just little specks on the horizon at the Loon Cam.....

MITS said...

have a good time Sissy

Mema Jo said...

I thought I saw 2 in the nest. You may be right Wanda about the reason for all the distortion.

Maybe after they settle down for the night, the picture will clear up. I hope so...love to watch them after dark. They remind me of children who can't settle down to sleep.

magpie said...

Second parent at Finney's

magpie said...

Did anyone see a big white head our nest for a quick stop? I can't tell what's in there...

deb said...

We might be back to one in the nest.

deb said...

I thought I did, but wasn't sure if it was a blur or not.

MITS said...

eagle still on Kent cam 1

paula eagleholic said...

Evening, all!

Maybe they didn't get to the trimming after all!

Been out fixing the deck. The dogs got a hair up their butt this morning and busted through the lattice after who knows what...so I was sawing and nailing lattice tonight!

It's warm out there!

paula eagleholic said...

Ceil & Sissy - Have a great time on your trips!

paula eagleholic said...

Candy - nice to see you on here! Did Josh move your computer?

paula eagleholic said...

Thanks for all the compliments on my pictures. I really enjoyed taking them and posting them for everyone!

I want a camera with more zooooooooooooooooom!!

paula eagleholic said...

Also, If there is one you would like to keep for a screen saver or to print out, email me the picture, so I can send you the original! They turn out much better that way....they are not the original quality on Picasa.

paula eagleholic said...

OUr nest is MT!!!

ceil said...

Paula if you have any more zoom on a camera it will look like you are sitting next to the eaglets. What type of camera do you have? My husband liked you pictures and said to find out. Thanks.

paula eagleholic said...

Stay safe, Glo.

I am having salmon on the grill and red beans and rice!

I love green beans and taters together. Sometimes I have just that for dinner.

paula eagleholic said...

Ceil - It's a Sony DSC H1...they have newer models out now. I've also heard the Canon D40 is good too.

paula eagleholic said...

Ceil - I want the zoom to be clearer...too fuzzy still for my liking

ceil said...

Thanks. Paula.

magpie said...

Deer at the white salt lick in PA has antlers in velvet. You gotta watch it for a minute or two til the motion activated cam picks it up .

paula eagleholic said...

The close up pics, I had to zoom in on the original to get them.

paula eagleholic said...

Gotta eat and feed dogs.

ceil said...

Paula you do great work. We are lucky that you always get the picture for us. Have things to do TTUT.

Good Evening Eagle Gang---
Got home from Dr. & some shopping & went out to dinner,
Guess I didn't miss anything & guess Comcast can't find any tree trimmers!!!! $*)(#@G%*&

paula eagleholic said...

Nest looks MT. Guess Tiny is spending her first night on a branch!

NatureNut said...

Since everyone is watching Finney's, I won't put any pics on---had to save a couple last night because of the intensity of the males eyes then he looked right at the camera!
I may have already mentioned that on the Norway Sea Eagle home paqge, they have pic gallery if you click on pic to right of the big refresh cam.I got some off of there too. I have been having trouble getting their Live Cam to open.
I will miss the Loonies, too! TX wood ducks should be hatching soon.

paula eagleholic said...

Good night, Mits!

paula eagleholic said...

Ok, finally got the blog read...gotta go check emails

NatureNut said...

Paula, I thought you had a Sony from the DSC numbers on the pic. Mine's 2 years old & I had bought a telephoto lens but it was in car when it got stolen a year ago.So I just zoom & fix blur (if there is some) in photo programs. Got the car back in a week when it ran out of gas, but it was MT.Even Owner's Manual gone! Coulda lived out of it!!!

JohnNCTC said...

Well just dropped in..talked with the grounds crew today. We need to clear more limbs than we originally anticipated. The NCTC staff has worked hard to provide what we can with the cam. But this comment really is not nice...

Blogger Red said...

I agree. I think they could have fixed it a little quicker. Right hand dosen't know what the left is foing.

We will continue to provide the best service possible. Have a great evening. I will talk to my left hand tomorrow, an hopefully we can get a resolution to this problem.

OOOOOPPPPPS!

paula eagleholic said...

Oh, have you checked the Delta Nest. Dad brought OJ's Glove!!

paula eagleholic said...

You're right Nature- it's a DSC H1 - small print and tired eyes!

paula eagleholic said...

John - thanks for the update on the tree limbs! I appreciate everything you do to keep the cam up and running...including logging in from home to reset the cam!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Yes, John, we really are grateful for all you do. We get so into watching these babies and forget that it is a luxury. Thank you.

NEWEST UPDATE ON BUDDY!!!

UPDATE: June 12 2008, 3pm
by Dr. Dave McRuer, Director of Veterinary Medicine at the Wildlife Center of Virginia:

The mass appears even drier today compared to yesterday. The eaglet ate well this morning and, although not taking food off the forceps, will readily eat the food when placed in his mouth.

The eaglet is still hock-sitting and will soon need branches within its enclosure in order to strengthen the tendons in his legs and feet. We hope to install a larger pen in our isolation room later this week so that the eaglet can easily begin to perch without feeling confined by the roof.

The bird keeps the nest incredibly clean by defecating through the cage door onto the window and wall two feet away. The bird's projectile power does not seem to be hampered by the pox infection.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Thanks for the update Paula. Buddy is blowing them away, huh? LITERALLY! You go Buddy!!

paula eagleholic said...

He's a smart little sucker!

deb said...

I forgot to tell you I saw a blue-billed duck today. I hope it is still there tomorrow. I had grabbed my camera, but I had a wide angle lens on it, so I couldn't get a picture of it. That will teach me not to come prepared! Here is a picture of one, if you haven't seen one before. Today's sighting was only my second.

Blue-Billed Duck

NatureNut said...

That's great Buddy news--shows he has some POWER!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

IT IS CALLED POOPIE POWER!

NatureNut said...

Must mention to NCTCJohn and Steve that we DO appreciate everything you do and that some things that happen have nothing to do w/you!

My eyeballs are crossing---gotta take a break---

I KNEW some one would say that! You read my mind Sharon--I was chicken to write it! LOL

DEB - great picture of the blue-billed duck. Looks like he's grinning!

paula eagleholic said...

Deb - he's pretty. I was thinking a dark blue bill, not light blue.

deb said...

I didn't take that picture, I found it on the internet. I couldn't get a picture of it, but wanted you all to see what they look like, they are so pretty.

deb said...

I did put a few pictures from this week on my page. One is flood waters north of Vermillion. (nothing like Iowa is getting) The other two show another side to SD with the rock formations found in southeast SD.

floralgirl said...

Well thanks, John, I'm not surprised there is some more cleanup to do, last weeks storms were fierce. We must all remember that the cam only exists because of people like Steve and John and several others who pushed to have it installed. Keeping it up and running is obviously a challenge and not part of their regular job description, and they put in a lot of their own time to keep it going. I appreciate all that is done to do so, and enjoy every minute of the eagle viewing we get. While it gets really frustrating when it ain't working, and we all have our moments of complaining, I think we all really do appreciate you guys at NCTC. Thanks to you guys and all the time you put in so we can all enjoy watching these beautiful birds.
