Monday

New week thread.

Update:  This morning a gentleman dropped off at the NCTC gate an injured adult bald eagle.  The bird had been hit by a car near Harper's Ferry.  We brought the bird over to a wildlife rehabilitator in Keedysville, MD.  The bird stayed calm in the car, and was able to hop out of the transport carrier.  Looked like a leg injury, but it could not fly.

Glad that Dad at Maine finally gave up...poor guy!

Truder seems to have narrow feet at times!

Lynne, good catch on the Osprey egg!

Yea, what a sight that must have been to come upon, the eagles and vultures at the deer carcass.

hedgie said...

Just as I read that Judie was turning on the night light, the night light on the nest came on!! Gee, gal, you sure have super powers!!! Rest well.

hedgie said...

Well, admitting Sissy is a wise thing to do, under the circumstances......she's been through so much already.

DanaMo said...

Well I think I will sign out...I'll see the "early birds" in the morning.

I just got back and I see Sissy needs immediate prayer doing so now!!!!!!

Kay IM I was and have been doing so well. I don't know what this backward spin is all about. Giving it some time. I do believe in groups and if it continues I will attend one again. Just it has taken me by surprise. This all of a sudden crying and missing him terribly. I am on 1/2 day at a time right now. Thank you Hugs

Oh dear more prayers for Sissy

Hoda said...

WOW!!! Travelling with a wounded eagle in the car!!! I can hardly imagine it, I would not want to be the driver...Oh MY!!! Wonderful that you all have a place close by to tend to wounded eagles.
I am sorry the Main nest incubation is not going to produce an eaglet...yet it is a sign that the intruders are reflecting a healthy eagle population in your part of the world.

I am sorry Sissy had to go to the hospital and I wish her well.

DanaMo said...

aw DanaWV so sorry. I think those "backward" spins are to be expected. It must be very difficult.

glo said...

They said the wounded eagle was able to walk out of the "carrier" if i remember correctly. So it doesn't sound to me like it just sat there on a seat for the drive.

wvgal_dana said...

Hoping the eagle that got hit in Harpers Ferry. Is able to recover and be released. Also hope someone moved that deer carcass off roadway.

Hoda said...

Glo I read that too, that he hopped out of the transport carrier, but just imagine having a bald eagle in the car!!! It is a wonderful and kind thing this gentleman did...

hedgie said...

I think that the carrier was used to transport the eagle to the rehab facility. Two people brought it to NCTC, so possible that one just held it--maybe wrapped in a coat or something.

Lolly said...

Jack and I went out for a walk around Hawkwood. Missed the T birds visit.

glo said...

Filmed a car once approaching a bald eagle release that said with a big sign on the side BALD EAGLE ONBOARD. They had traveled 3 hours from the Chicago area to near where I love. I was so excited just seeing the car approach let alone the imminent release I had come to watch. Guess we don't know where the carrier comes into play for sure. Sounds good if it hopped out of the carrier though. Hopefully it will recover fully.

Judie said...

Yep, it's magic how I managed to turn the nest night light on.

In truth, I am more tired than I realized and have another day at school tomorrow. So, am setting our night light to turn on at 11:00pm. Headed for the pillows momentarily. Restful sleep for all. I'm sure Andy will turn on the alarm system later.

Poor thing--she's had a long recuperation.
Lolly, keep those fires away!! Just had email from our Park sec. who retired back to TX. She's somewhere N. of Dallas, but didn't mention bad stuff there. She was more concerned w/the bad weather we were supposed to get! She even heard on news about kayaker lady in the Potomac!

I refer to it as the black hole. Having been through a loss like you and living with depression (and medication for half my life) I totally understand. Are you on meds now? If not you may need some at least temporarily. They help so much. Crying spurts and sadness are classic chemical depression.
If you want I'll go to a doc with you. I'll just come pick you up -we can go have dinner too & drive by the nest or something.

Most important is getting out and doing something, anything. So I hope you'll allow be to come to WV and take you to an early dinner at least. If you don't have a doc, I'd be happy to pick you up and take you to mine in Frederick.
Let me know. I'm here for you whatever you need. My email is on my blog. ♥

From yesterday's Bear report:

We received the DNR veterinarian’s preliminary report on Jason today. It said the left knee was swollen to three times the size of the right knee. If poor Jason had an injured knee for awhile, it could explain his apparent lack of coordination and slower development while being the same size as Faith. Maybe he was just as well developed as Faith but had a hurt knee. If that’s true, no wonder he didn’t want to climb as high in trees as Faith or follow Lily as readily. No wonder he would hang back and cry when the others went off.

Jason had a number of bruises that the veterinarian attributed to bites. We don’t want to over-interpret this, but we can imagine him hanging back on the 0.42 mile trip on Friday, April 8th, and being picked up. Could that cause the bruising? One bite was across the head. We’ll know more when the University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory completes their tests on tissue samples.

On a more positive note, congratulations Shirley. Nice time of year to begin the transition when the weather is nice and you can enjoy being outside instead of cooped up in a classroom.

Wanda, what's on the menu for tonight? Glad GG is going to talk with her doctor. Likely arthritis. Going to see someone myself in a couple of weeks. Fat and very painful thumb.

Lowreeda, hi! Some of my most fun times were "playing" with my Koko and Lily as they "assisted" me with changing bed sheets. Brought back lots of memories.

Well, need to try to make myself less scary so I go out into the world. Hope everyone has a good day.
