Maria - that may be the best place to post reports... Thanks for suggesting it.

Heather holler at us before coming

TEAM LIBERTY Here we come!

Heather said...

I will. Is there a particular spot that's best for viewing the nest? I saw some shots taken near what looked like the entrance to the facility, is that a good place to be?

magpie said...

Ok!
Thanks JudyE for a great reply you answered every question !
Sounds wonderful

Jo and PammySue - Thank you for going, dress warmly it is kinda bone-chillin' cold with or without the sun

magpie said...

Get yourself a Scotty Trailer and take the trip JudyE

loved the travel reports on here !

magpie said...

If we have a parade I can play the camera !

turtledove said...

Hi Heather,

I live in No. VA too, and was thinking of doing the same thing. I'm a total novice, but I thought it would be interesting.

magpie said...

Been to Vancouver and made that trip across the Northern US
also been across through Kan-Okla-Colo-Utah and California and up the Pac-Northwest Coast...
awesome, all of it !

magpie said...

we also had that period of time between Dec 10 and Dec 26 with absolutely no sighting at the nest cams of the eagles...
maybe they were trying to figure out that new cam placement and if they were going to return

appreciate that insight and reminder about the distress calling Megan

magpie said...

Lynn
Good report, sort of, of the hearing, more to be revealed, and hopefully, more punishment to be metetd out...

aKuna Kumara said...

Hi All: the group seems to be growing here...Eventually there will be something other than a empty nest to observe...

magpie said...

inspection went ok. Squeaky sounds was torsion bar that needs to be greased from time to time.
I think I have a few torsion bars that need to be greased from time to time

paula eagleholic said...

You can view the eagles from the side of the road, about 1/4 mile past the NCTC entrance. The nest is straight ahead.

Heather said...

turtledove, where are you in NoVa? I'm in Warrenton. I'm a novice as well, but I've been following here and trying to learn what I can so that I'll have a better chance of distinguishing between the eagles once I'm there. Borrowing my dad's good binoculars. :)

magpie said...

I am, so far, OFF on April 3 and will do my very best to be at the Grand Opening for the Farmer's Market !!!

mariadangeloart said...

Yay the sun is finally out on that poor Decorah eagle! If anyone deserves some sun it's that poor bird!

Robyn said...

Good afternoon everyone, cold and damp today, ick!

Finally got some much neglected housework finished and just tried to catch up over 200 posts *sigh* Hard to keep up at times.

Well another day and still no Lib with Belle, not sure what he is waiting for and if he took a sligt beating from the intruder I hope Lib is formulating ways to bring him down and get rid of the intruder. As much as I want Lib to return to Belle the strongest will survive this ordeal and help breed strong chicks for next season. I haven't accepted the intruder yet but what will be will be :(.

Scott I have the map for you to get to dam 4 I will send it to your FB pvt msg box, look for it in the next 30 min.

magpie said...

Oh
Judie and Shirley teamed up for an Eagle Release two years ? ago...
hope they will have some time to talk about that one of these days, it was their first meeting as Momsters, in Northern Virgina...
they loved it !!!

Christine said...

I'll have to make a list of questions for my visit to the raptor center tomorrow. I'll ask about burying the eaglet also and see if they've ever seen or heard of that. If anyone has any other questions they'd like me to ask let me know. I probably won't be able to ask about this specific situation unless I run into someone who has been following along with the rest of us.

mariadangeloart said...

Yes MemaJo I think it would be the easiest place to find out what's going on since here we have to scroll through so many posts.

WV sUSAn said...

Megan. Re previous intruders at the nest area, I said I'd seen a couple weeks prior to laying eggs. Shd have been intruders in the area a couple wks before hatching. Hard to keep up from work. Too darn many interruptions hahahahaaa

magpie said...

Dana and others:
there is a little slipover our neck harness you can get, probably at a sporting goods supply store, onto which you can hook your binoculars...I have one if you want to test drive it sometime

mariadangeloart said...

Christine, would you also post what you find out from the raptor center on the Facebook page?

magpie said...

that would be "your neck" not "our neck" though we tend to share many things amongst us

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

If Jo calls me before I get off work, I will post what I can on here and Facebook.

magpie said...

WV sUSAn:
did you get some Samoa cookies yet ???

got to disappear for awhile,

you folks take care

Bless This Nest, and all the Nest Watchers
xo ♥

magpie said...

Sharon, Happy Trails and Safe Travels, and if you make a trip to Romney let us know !!!!
That's a command, not a recommendation ! xoxo

WV sUSAn said...

Excellent description of the eagles Paula.

turtledove said...

Heather, I'm in Mclean near Tysons Corner. I don't have powerful binoculars, though, so I don't know if I'd see anything I could actually make sense of.

hedgie said...

Sharon, wish you WOULD go to Romney and get Norma's computer straightened out!! Just can't figure out why she doesn't get a techie in to do that!

We used to camp, too, but never got the opportunity to travel the way so many of you have. Never enough vacation time from work and school. We had a 27' Prowler by the end, but started out tenting when Carolyn was 9 mos. old! And now, when I have the time....well, I could never maneuver an RV! No fun alone anyway.

Lolly said...

Jo, I could post your observations, but not sure you want to call me. Just let me know. I can make a point of being on at 3, my time.

Now to try to do a little house cleaning.

Christine said...

Sure, I'll post whatever I can find out on here and facebook. I don't know how easy it is to talk to someone over there, but I can be pretty persistent :) I just need to make a list of questions so I don't forget!

JudyEddy said...

If you like Samoa cookies Don't worry they are made by Kellogg's and you can buy them at Walmart Super centers and probably other stores They are called Coconut Dreams they are a smaller cookie but they are somas check it out right now on rollback from 298 to $1.98 most people don't know that Kellogg's makes them so keep on low down don't want to hurt the girls sales so buy from them when its the season and the rest of the time you can buy at your local store

JudyEddy said...

When you say post on facebook is that the Nctc Eagle Cam one that Pam handles that you are going to post on?

Robyn said...

Just spoke to Jo, I am hopping in shower and heading to the nest to catch up with her... I have the droid and if we are in a spot with service I will keep everyone updated

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Yes, JudyE, I can post there.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Very good Robin because I will be leaving at 3.

hedgie said...

Cool that Jo and Pam are nestbound!!! Looking forward to their review of the current situation.

Duh....what did I miss??? Loretta's Dad lives in Pinellas? I don't remember seeing anything about that before....and don't think I've ever heard her mention her Dad!!!! That is great that she still has him!

Heather---easy trip for you to make to nest!
I am originally from DC/Falls Church/Annandale. And Judie lives in A'dale, too!

JudyEddy said...

6:15 still on my cam Odd that I haven't had to refresh the page at all maybe because not as many viewer?? I should know not to question technology LOL

hedgie said...

I didn't get a FB message, Jo....was it just a regular post?

hedgie said...

It is supposed to be down in the 20's tonight.....no fair! It is quite raw out there already, tho' it is 39. Think it's time to build a fire again!

WV sUSAn said...

Margy, I'm still jonesn' for Samoas!!!

Lynn. I've been a tent camper for a long time. Seems I can get into and stay more off the beat places in a tent. Camping and fishing and bird watching can entertain me indefinitely.

turtledove said...

This is NCTC's directions page:

http://raceforthebirds.org/directions.html

From the sound of it, you drive past the entrance gate 1/4 mile and stop there. Is that correct?

hedgie said...

@turtledove----Shirley can give you directions on how NOT to come up here!!! LOL---she has tales to tell! She comes from Fredericksburg!!!

hedgie said...

Shirley is stronghunter.

stronghunter said...

Had to buy a GPS to get home last time.

Scott said...

@Robyn...Thanks!!!

JudyEddy said...

Hedgie this is the orginal posy by NatureNut ""

Gadzooks! Been checking, videos, etc & the news is almost over.
Read that JudyE, I believe, is in Pinellas Park!! When my Dad retired, he moved to Dunedin, outside of Tampa~~near Clearwater, & Treasure Island, & St. Pete nearby. Love that area. Post was 11:33

hedgie said...

JudyE---that's very interesting about the GS cookies! Who would thunk it?? Don't recall the name anymore, but back when I was in scouting lo those many years ago, they were baked by a company in Richmond, VA.

hedgie said...

Sissy, I am so sorry that you are fearful about tomorrow. Please don;t be! Everything is going to be fine. Shar, I am just really relieved that you will be there with her. BTW----don't let Mattie miss school tomorrow. Big new crack down on absences.....at 5, some kind of action and at 10 without a drs. excuse they are going to start truancy proceedings against parents!

hedgie said...

Alright, Robyn's going to the nest, too!!! Three musketeers can cheer: TEAM LIBERTY!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Somebody is there.

hedgie said...

Thanks, JudyE---I did miss that post completely. Not sure that she meant he is still alive...we will have to ask her when she gets back on!
My Mom lived in Port St. Lucie from '89 until '05 (Robyn's folks live there now!)....but after the '04 hurricanes, she just couldn't cope anymore, so we gave her the option of moving here to WV near me, or MO near my sister....she opted for MO. She is almost 92!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Somebody was right near the cam and calling out but appear to be gone now. :(

Christine said...

I just got a response to my email I sent to the raptor center. I'm trying to set up an appointment to talk to her face to face tomorrow. Pammy, any information you can give me today/tonight on what you see will help me formulate some of my questions for tomorrow! I'm already planning to ask about the "feedings" we saw and about burying Paddy and why the other eagle kept trying to unbury him/her.

OMG, I'm so excited!! :)

hedgie said...

It is SLEETING here....ugh!

Lolly said...

I just heard something. Think they are still close by.

Lolly said...

It is cooler here today. Got down to upper 40's this morning.

Did you hear that? They are still there!

Heather said...

Thanks for the info and directions! I think I'll make the trip tomorrow. Hope I can report back something worthwhile!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Yes I did Lolly. I hope they hang out until Jo, Pam and Robyn get there.

Lolly said...

Got mixed up. Said it would be 3 here. duh! It is 1 here and they should be there now and someone is in the tree. who?

Lolly said...

Hurry, girls!

Christine said...

I hear them too, and switched to the nest view right in front of my co-workers LOL!!

stronghunter said...

Hi,

Thanks for the comments about what is going on.

Can't listen right now. My students are taking a mid term.

Lolly said...

Uh oh! Careful Christine!

Lolly said...

LOL Yeah, they can listen to loud rucus music while studying! Do not disturb them with a bird chirp.

Another call!

Christine said...

Nah, they're pretty cool!(That sounded like Belle) They know what an animal nut I am.

JudyEddy said...

Who is that

stronghunter said...

LOL, Lolly.

Some of them get distracted if I walk by their desks. Teenagers are strange creatures.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Hard to tell but I am going to say Belle.

Heather said...

Has anyone ever heard TRudy's cry? I don't recall ever hearing it.

movin said...

Well, talk to you all later...

There's quite a bit going on elsewhere...

Lily and Hope are playing and rasslin again.

The lumber is really being delivered at BWO.

Chicks are growing new feathers and lying in a clump at BWE.

TH nest is due to hatch it's remaining egg, but the cam is down and they have a pic of two Eeuuwies on instead.

Pandas are being cute and lovable at both SD and Atlanta.

Phoebie's chicks are really growing and are starting to show a lot of rufus in their feathers.....

Hoping for the best for both Lib & Belle. Have a great day.

C(°Ù¿°)D Jim

JudyEddy said...

Ok another stupid question the three people going to the nest do they get close enough to it like we could see them on the ground under the the cam ??? or do they keep their distance??

Heather said...

JudyE, it's my understanding (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm still a newbie here) that you can't enter the grounds of the facility, you have to view the nest from the street.

Christine said...

Ok, I have a 1:00 appointment tomorrow with an eagle specialist at CRC!!

Heather said...

Christine, that's so exciting! Good luck!

IrisF said...

@Magpie, You mentioned Dec 10-26 the eagles were not seen around the nest? How odd. I wonder if that was what I was trying to remember. I thought I remembered someone saying Lib wasn't acting like himself in December sometime.

It would be so nice to have my mind back!!!!!

IrisF said...

Judy E = we're not allowed within 300 feet of the tree during nesting season. I'm sure they will be out on the road where they can still see the tree though.

Lolly said...

Someone is still in the nest. Has anyone heard from Jo?

IrisF said...

Christine, that is exciting! I'm anxious to hear from you tomorrow.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Nothing from Jo yet.

Costume Lady said...

I am HAPPY TO BE ME TOO, James. What a sweet kid. Margy has influenced him in such good ways.
GRANDMAS ARE SPECIAL♥

magpie said...

Yes Iris

those were the dates...the new cam was installed on Dec 10 - one bird I think Belle came to the nest very briefly that day and then we did not see anything on the CAMS until Dec 26
can't remember if anyone at the NCTC grounds gave us a report of seeing anything or not...

magpie said...

okay Coconut Dreams, JudyE
thanks.
will share that with Susan...

magpie said...

Welcome Back "Home" Wanda !
Thanks for your kind words...♥

Lolly said...

Wanda!!! Welcome back!

Did you see my post. My WV columbine is going to bloom. I have two plants and they both have stalks coming up with blooms!! I am so excited!

paula eagleholic said...

Lolly, in the nest or the tree? Nest is MT

JudyEddy said...

she sounds so close

paula eagleholic said...

Christine, you may want to ask the folks at CRC what Savannah and Derek did with the second chick that hatched. It didn't survive.

JudyEddy said...

and yet we can't see her she is a big tease LOL

magpie said...

JO and Robyn and ...PammySue are headed to Shepherd Grade right now and might already be there ...

that msg for you Wanda...

hedgie said...

For all who use your picture phones for sending and posting photos....please heed this serious warning in regard to your children and grands!!!
WARNING

paula eagleholic said...

Just heard a call.

Never have heard a peep out of the intruder.

paula eagleholic said...

Big clunk, someone's up there

Truder in the nest.

hedgie said...

Bird in nest.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

And of course it has to be the Turdy Bird.

hedgie said...

Looks like Truder.

Heather said...

Would someone please refresh me as to any differences noted between Liberty and TRudy's appearance (other than the spot on the head)? Thanks in advance!

hedgie said...

Moving furniture.

Lolly said...

Truder! In the nest?! Moving sticks!

paula eagleholic said...

T moving sticks

stopped to preen real quick got a good pic of the back

Still moving sticks

Costume Lady said...

I'm so happy, Lolly! You will love them...hope they are planted near you yellow ones. That dark purple and yellow together will be beautiful. And, of course, save your seed if you love them:)
My TEXAS ones survived the winter, a little early for buds here, but I'm watching anxiously!

magpie said...

I's doing still cam screen grabs
know someone else will get better

WV sUSAn said...

On boy Finally I c one n the neat and it's TRudy

paula eagleholic said...

Truder has very long middle toe

Lolly said...

Not near as handsome as our Lib! Surely she will NOT pick him!

Sorry, Paula, about the earlier post. Meant to say tree, not nest.

bev. said...

just finished skimming through all comments.

Have been catching up on my falocns.

May be and egg at Maine eagle nest???

Glad someone is going out to nest

INtruder arranging sticks
Was that its little squeal or the one we were hearing form Belle when she was on nest

paula eagleholic said...

That's OK Lolly,

Lolly said...

Yes, on his left foot. His middle toe is very long. That is a good identifier.

magpie said...

zooom would not be such a bad idea right now
just say'in'

Lolly said...

There are three out there watching the nest. Hope jto get a good report if anyone is in the tree or nearby.

JudyEddy said...

Hedgie thanks for the phone thing SCARY I posted on my Face book and also emailed the link to all my address book I don't have a phone like that I just have a trac phone for ER when I have my grand daughter

bev. said...

had to turn off all my other cams so I could bring this one up.
Not sure why???

He is really arranging the sticks
Heard another little sound

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Just lost live feed.

Heather said...

Thanks again, Paula and Lolly. Wonder where Belle is?

Lolly said...

I can't help but wonder if the spot on his head is an injury, or feathers. I am thinking injury.

paula eagleholic said...

Shredding the pine branch?

Lolly said...

Both feet, Paula, have long toes.

paula eagleholic said...

Another clunk

Looking up

Heather said...

Was that noise someone on the cam?

Lolly said...

I think Belle is in the tree. Did you see Truder look up?

bev. said...

had to let doggies out.

I am hoping they get along soon. I will get nothing done

hear trilling off nest.

WV sUSAn said...

Ha
Lolly. And I meant to say nest and not neat
ooops
That TRudy sure is a tidy one.

paula eagleholic said...

Can see the dark feathers on side of head from time to time

paula eagleholic said...

I got some stills too, Margy

Lolly said...

Yeah, I have really been studying him. First time I have been able to do this. Got a couple of pics. Are you taping, Paula?

magpie said...

getting some awesome views of this bird even on STill Cam.

hedgie said...

Shirley, OF COURSE they get nervous when you walk by their desks---they're afraid you'll see their cheat sheets!!!!

Lolly said...

I hear someone. Belle in the tree, or Truder?

paula eagleholic said...

Now just standing in the middle, facing 3, looking around

magpie said...

K Lol and Paul

hedgie said...

Thanks for that rundown, Jim!!! Very informative. We all have let other sites slide lately!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

I tried to call Jo and Pam both and get no answer. I was hoping they would get there while he is in the nest to see where Lib and Belle are.

Lolly said...

LOL Lynn, I have not even been reading the newspaper. It is all a matter of priorities.

magpie said...

cell phone coverage can be really poor there, Sharon

hedgie said...

JudyE, even when we can get on campus, there is a specific radius around nest tree that is off limits. Signage warns everyone away. No way to see people from cam unless they climb the tree!

bev. said...

I have been taking pictures and blowing them up(well not exploding them LOL) and there are 2 marks but hard to tell.

I hear soft eagle sounds and maybe they are coming from Belle. they are similar to the sounds when she was on the nest

Have to reboot again

I am not on facebook and have no desire to go on, so will the reports be put here also???

paula eagleholic said...

I did get some video, Lolly. Waiting for bird to move

another big clunk

paula eagleholic said...

Eagle above must have left and then returned, couldn't tell when they left, or that clunk might have been them leaving

Joyce said...

Tree Shaking...another Eagle landed?

Lolly said...

Bev, have checked facebook. They have not put anything on there.

bev. said...

can't get back in ******

turtledove said...

So if Belle is in the tree above the camera, I wonder if she's hanging WITH T or just keeping an eye on him to make sure he doesn't do anything she doesn't like.

magpie said...

you could go to the nest Lolly,
paint some toenails
paint them GONE

hedgie said...

Iris, my suspicion on the 12/10-26 time frame is that the birds were suspicious of the tree changes. Remember they cut off one limb and trimmed some branches....Between the difference that made and them knowing that an invader (human) had been there made them too wary to come in for awhile---JMO, of course.

bev. said...

Can hear someone above and Benendict Arnold looked up

Lolly said...

LOL Margy...how about we just use white out!

Lolly said...

Poof! Gone!

Battle in the tree?

turtledove said...

Eagle calls and camera rattles...

Lolly said...

Oh man! Wish I was there!!!!

magpie said...

Funny Lolly ! It worked !
going to try to put some pics up

Heather said...

Ah, what's going on!!

bev. said...

and poof.

Clunk, above and you can still hear little calls. I am thinking Belle.
Maybe someone else landed also???

Lolly said...

Well, the three that are there should have seen the show. Really anxious to her the report.

hedgie said...

JudyE---my phone could do that if I wanted it to, but I don't! We are on a fmaily plan---daughter and gd have internet on theirs but SIL and I don't, nor does his mom!

turtledove said...

Tru looked a little panicked before taking off...looked all around really quickly and then flew off. I'll bet whomever was on the tree took off after him.

hedgie said...

Jo just tried to call....but no one there when I answered....guess she lost the signal.

Christine said...

The way he was looking around I'd say I think Belle was in the tree and Liberty was flying around.

hedgie said...

Lolly, I haven't opened today's paper, either!!!
Paula, I tried to get a pic of him preening because you could really see the dark feathers under his wings----but he was faster than SnipIt was!!!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Okay, I am logging off, packing up and heading to WV. Will check in along the way when I make a stop.

bev. said...

Can hear the trills off nest if you really listen. Lots of them

someone up top moved

Lolly said...

Jo, just called.
They saw Truder fly out of the nest. Belle is up in the tree. Truder cam back and is in a branch above Belle. No third eagle has been seen.

Call was a little broken, we lost connection once. She called back.

bev. said...

I f I had a Lear jet ,I would be there.

hedgie said...

Drive safely, Sharon!!!!!

turtledove said...

It sounds like Lib is out of the picture, at least for now. I sure hope someone sees him so we know he's still in this thing.

hedgie said...

NOT what we want to hear.....I want to know that Lib is there FIGHTING for his life back.
TEAM LIBERTY!!!

bev. said...

That was the other clunk we heard.

Lolly said...

Yes, we WANT Lib!!!

paula eagleholic said...

Heard another clunk...adjusting or leaving tree??

Lolly said...

LOL You and me both, Bev. Not only would I fly there, but bomb Truder!!!!

Lolly said...

Eagle calls?

turtledove said...

Since people have seen Lib flying around and he's OK, it's really puzzling that it seems like he's not putting up a very big fight. Unless he got hurt just enough to need time to regroup.

bev. said...

Team Liberty.

No news is good news. Wish he had a tag so you would know if he was somewhere else close by right now.

bev. said...

have to get something done, like maybe try and do a supper LOL

Costume Lady said...

Heard a truck? horn blow around 2:45.May have been Jo and Pammy. At that time, Truder was in the nest.

Listen to that mockingbird sing!

bev. said...

LOL TRudy. My dad was a bomber pilot in war. Maybe we could enlist him.

magpie said...

You all keep watching I am putting and removing extras out of the album, was supposed to be somewhere at 2 pm ! LOL
bye

Lolly said...

Jo, just called but lost the connection.

Anyway, she did report that Truder and Belle left the tree, flying together toward the campus. No eagles in sight now. They have been searching for a sign of Lib, but no luck.

bev. said...

sorry Lolly .

magpie said...

well there is a little more or less duplication/similar views but think I will leave them as is, in the album

Lolly said...

Yeah, Bev, do not mix me up with THAT bird! LOL

magpie said...

probably the mockingbird that Lolly thought might take her YARD this morning...☺
LOL okay bye

Lolly said...

Good job, Margy!☺

bev. said...

so the 2 flying together , the other day were probably Belle and Benedict , and the other one maybe Liberty.

Who knows

Got to run

Team Liberty

God bless everyone here and Liberty

Lolly said...

I must say this.....Jo, I loved hearing your voice! Wow! Good times, good memories! ♥U

magpie said...

thanks Lolly...just a little contribution, there were some great views of different body parts and feather things...

Costume Lady said...

Maybe Gene and I will go down after Supper. Don't want to risk running into anyone with my bloated, blotched face. Might get lucky and see eagles coming in to roost at that time.

Christine said...

LOL "Benedict" <--- I like that!! :)

Lolly said...

Great Wanda! Hope you can go. Not one person on here would think anything about your face and recent medical attention. We all go through something like that some time or other.

Costume Lady said...

I like BENEDICT, too, Christine...but was thinking she was talking about Lib!

Costume Lady said...

Oh, Lolly this series of 'removal' is horrendous. I've stayed in my office all day:(

Lolly said...

Bless you!

turtledove said...

If Belle takes up with T this soon after he contributed to the loss of her babies, then I don't know what to think. Poor Lib, no babies, no Belle.

WV sUSAn said...

When we were at the nest last wkend, cell service was almost non-existent when standing at the gate. You can move around the area and it comes and goes.

FuzzleMT said...

TEAM LIBERTY!!
WE WANT LIB!
WE WANT LIB!
WE WANT LIB!

Lolly said...

Well, the phone calls were iffy but we managed to get some information. Sure wish I was there! And, nothing like phone calls to Texas from WV to have it reported on the blog. LOL

WV sUSAn said...

Lynn. It's really bad right at the gate.

Lolly said...

Amen, Irene!!!!

Costume Lady said...

Lynn, whatca doin' today? Wanted to show you photos of Police stop on Monday on King Street overpass.
If you double click and blow up the photos, you can see one person (maybe female) placed against the drivers side of a police car and mayb being searched. Also, in another photo, looks like another suspect.
I think I'm watching too many police shows. Trying to find something interesting:)

WV sUSAn said...

We never did see three together last weekend at the nest or three flying together. We THOUGHT one may have been Lib, but realized later that it was not when it was confirmed that Belle was on the nest.
