Thanks for the congratulations for my test grades--Margy, you got it right when you said I have the right partnership going on! Sometimes I think your prayers and the Lord's help are all that get me through this! My brain is feeling a bit like Swiss cheese this morning; it takes longer to memorize stuff than it used to, for sure! So keep on praying for me, you guys! I have a really hairy test tomorrow night in Anatomy class! Have to know all about the skeleton--all 206 bones.

I am in a really p---y mood.....just realized that I forgot (BAD mommy) Cinnamon's 10th birthday----it was on the 1st. And she is taking it out on me...three "accidents" in two days...last evening on my new kitchen carpet...and while getting her to the door she managed to do some more on the living room carpet. So I have been shampooing carpets today...ARGH.
On top of that, I put Suz's birthday card in the mailbox this morning; the tree trimming company working for the power company parked in front of my box for three hours, so carrier didn't pick-up/deliver mail, so now the card will be LATE.....I am ANGRY.

STS-128 Crew Prepares for Landing
The astronauts on space shuttle Discovery are ready to wrap up a nearly 13-day flight with a landing this evening at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The first task for Pilot Kevin Ford and Commander Rick Sturckow was to make ready for an orbital adjustment engine firing to move Discovery out of the path of a piece of orbital debris. That burn of Discovery’s orbital maneuvering system engines was performed at 12:02 p.m. EDT. The maneuver will not alter the scheduled landing opportunities today.
Mission specialists Pat Forrester, Jose Hernandez, Danny Olivas, Christer Fuglesang and Tim Kopra join Sturckow and Ford to begin deorbit preparations about 1 p.m. as they get themselves and their ship ready for the ride home.
The deorbit burn for today’s first landing opportunity today, on orbit 202, is at 5:59 p.m. Discovery would cross above southern Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico, skirt west of Cuba and cross the Florida coast above Sarasota, with landing at Kennedy’s runway 15 at 7:05 p.m. A second landing opportunity at Kennedy today would put the shuttle and crew on the ground at 8:42 p.m. The weather forecast for both opportunities today calls for a chance of thunderstorms within 30 nautical miles of the Shuttle Landing Facility.

Tell you what, though, you should see MY carpet! We've had light biege carpet since 1980, and although it's been cleaned professionally countless times, it's really bad. Can't afford to get it cleaned again, OR replaced. If anyone comes to visit, promise me you won't look DOWN! (Yuck--don't know WHAT to do with it at this point!)

Busy w/errands and hair appt. that while on way home, I go near a real great place, SO for the 1st time this summer got some steamed crabs!!!!There used to be a crew that had excellent ones the sold in my area on weekends.I would get some almost every Sat. on way home from work---gone now.

Had some good news about youngest grandson. There's nothing wrong with his not talking yet. He's behind on his speech but way ahead with his other skills. Daughter has been teaching him sign language but is giving him verbal instructions at the same time, so this is not a crutch. Whew; that worried me. He'll be getting some speech therapy though. I can't wait for him to say "Nana."

I was so worried when my eldest wasn't walking by 2----but doc wasn't concerned, and all turned out well. Think she was just lazy! As for talking...my dad always said "we spend the first two years of their lives teaching them to talk, and the rest of ours wishing they didn't!".

Incidentally - her hearing was tested and from a 1 (the best) to 10 Sophia was a 2. Dr told them very few if any have perfect hearing. She may be going to get some speech therapy but mom & dad and brothers are working with her...
Jo, is is interesting how children learn to talk and how they develope. Jacob has been so easy to understand and when I talk on the phone with him he is so clear. Joseph who is 8 and 9 next month is still sometimes hard to understand.

Steve my oldest talked at a very early age and the doctor was amazed. he could sing on key at 18 months but walking was slow. they each have their own timeclock
Joseph has always talked fast and has a little tongue thrust, but his teachers have never said anything. I blame it on drinking out of sippy cups for so long. lol (That is a grandma's prerogative!)

My brother Bill and his sweet wife Sandy have never been so we thought we would make it an adventure. Sandy vacation ends the 6th so we have to be back home in Toledo by then. Just doesnt work out with the momsters weekend this year.

I'm sure you're right--those orioles are pretty smart birds, and bet they're waiting for the sun to get lower in the sky to show up here. That way there will be shade at the bird feeder!
To throw in my 2 cents worth on kids walking & talking, they all seem to be on their own timetable.
Sometimes when they talk later,they come out with an entire paragraph instead of a first word!
As far as walking, it's a complicated sport to learn, so everyone's a little different. Don't worry about it, and it'll happen. I was a preemie, and my Mom & Dad always said they couldn't believe what I did--went from flat on my back to a dead run at less than 8 months old! (No walking in-between!) My grandfather was a track & field star at Michigan State, so maybe I got the running gene. Go figure.
My daughter & granddaughters, and the ggd, all walked at different ages. No figuring it.

We have a new advisory class that meets for 20 minutes on Wednesdays. I am supposed to guide students and advise them on things like college prep and avoiding bullying, etc. I asked the students to write on a card what things they would like to do during the allotted time. Biggest vote--eat. They want me to bring them food.
Teenagers! Why did I even ask? Some did say they would like to know more about applying for college and the SATs. Maybe I will try cookies. If I bring food a couple of times , I can suggest that they chip in. Then I can slip in the serious material.

At the Town Spring in Hedgesville at 9:30 Mema... ceremony will include Honor Guard from the 167th ANG in Martinsburg, three high school students reading their winning essays regarding 9-1-1 and a keynote address by Chief Warrant Officer 5 William H. Wortley, a Hedgesville resident who was responsible for the Army Assets at the Pentagon on Sept 11, 2001. Also one gentleman from Winchester, from the Pipe and Drum Corps, and another to play taps. A few other appearances and speeches also.
Margy - whenever they play taps I always fight back the tears.

Yes, Margy, Gene really enjoyed the info that Chrissy sent to him. Then I had to listen to it all and I don't like History! He needs to get back on his feet and get with Jerry or some of his Male friends. He surely must be tired of "only" me for the last 9 days:)

Made sandwiches for dinner so we wouldn't make the kitchen any hotter. Had deli macaroni salad with them, and dill pickles. Tasted pretty good. It's supposed to be hotter tomorrow, so I might go to a Barnes & Noble or Borders to study and get online. At least it will be air conditioned! Need to get more creative to beat the heat. Would love to be at the beach with it raining--sounds just heavenly!

Chrissy had another incident today with teenagers throwing something at her patio door. This time she called the police. They were coming by tonight or tomorrow. She is hopping mad now!
