First day off getting off at 6 am is always a little crazy, slept, got up for something, slept again, then went up to Morgan County to check on the Fellas.

Good Night to those heading for the pillows ♥

Zoo's Joy Turns to Sorrow After Incident
It is with tremendous sadness that the Memphis Zoo announces that the newborn elephant calf has died. The calf stumbled while walking through the exhibit shortly before 10:00am Wednesday morning. Asali was trying to assist the calf back to its feet when she accidentally injured the newborn with her tusk. Zoo keepers began to work immediately to separate Asali from the calf. They then began to perform first aid, and along with the Zoo’s veterinary staff,...

Good morning eagle friends! I do not see an eagle but I certainly here at least a couple of them.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Well, you guys are up early! Everything okay?

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

We got woke up at 3 this morning by a big dog dragging a huge chain across our front porch. It got loose from the neighbors. Now it is behind my house trying to figure out how to get back. Can't let my dogs out because I am afraid it would eat them. Wish they would get up and let it in.

Mits said...

yep, woke up and could not get back to sleep:)

Mits said...

I can just pictured that in my mind now, Sissy....working on the chain gang:)

I think he is back behind the house in my trash cans now. I am too leery of her to go try to put her back in the yard. She has a pretty vicious bark and don't really want to test the bite thing.

Mits said...

good thinking, Sissy

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Hidey is in the nest!!

Mits said...

as I was getting ready to go out yesterday, looked in my backyard, and lying under the azaleas was Mr. Red Fox....knocked on the window, he jumped up and ran off....now I'm afraid to go out in the backyard.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

She is so still, I thought my cam froze!

Mits said...

have not seen him in awhile

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Oh wow!!

Mits said...

is he mantling food?

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

I don't see any food in the nest. He/She is surveying her kingdom.

Mits said...

rain clouds over Finland nest...just 2 chicks in view...

Lori O. said...

Hi Mits & Sissy!

How wonderful to see Hidey this morning. I haven't seen her in a while either.

What a great way to start the day!

Was this a delivery of food, or did she bring it in herself?

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Morning Lori!

Mits said...

he looked like he was mantling at first, then it looked like something was in his talons, but just don't know.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

There she went!!

Mits said...

poof, but nearby

Lori O. said...

Yes, Hidey has always been a hoot to watch at meal time.

Imagine one day that Hidey will have to get food and give it up to his young ones... or will he? :)

Mits said...

the birthday boy is up and walking around

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Mits, did you read the thing on Daniel's page about Tai? It is good!

Mits said...

no didn't read it, Sissy, will go look

magpie said...

Good for the Eagle Spotters this morning! ☺ I envy you!

I did see a nice family of five deer, four bucks and a doe. At least two six-pointers, maybe an eight, and a four...

Mits said...

that was nice, Sissy, Daniel has a few things posted incorrectly, Tai's debut was in December of 2005.

magpie said...

And about a hundred commuters at the Train Station...
Come on back down Hidey !

magpie said...

I love that piece of peeling bark at the Sycamore Palace !

Mits said...

I was just going to ask, how the train station was this a.m., Margy

Mits said...

yeah that is cool.

magpie said...

Oh, forgot to say:

Good Morning Early Birders ☺

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

I loved that pic he had posted of Tai and Mei, head to head! Morning again magpie, my friend! How are ya this morning!!??

Mits said...

:), Margy....I'm drinking coffee like crazy, don't want to go back to sleep now, got too much to do today

Mits said...

yes that is a great picture....

Mits said...

he has been a wonderful addition to the zoo, will miss him when he goes, but no more than the keepers will.

magpie said...

Same here Mits...I had a short night's sleep too, thanks to my insatiable interest in ISS -
and I have a pile of things on my agenda today too....but I hope each of us "short pandas" get to take a little nap later!

Doing well, Sissy, thank you ! and yourself?

magpie said...

Train station was beautifuil in the pre-dawn sky. An assortment of passenger-types and one soldier. This train has a few skyliner type cars...just like the one Ceil, Jimmy and MM rode back in January !

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

The neighbor finally got up and came over and got his dog! I am so glad. My little dachshunds think they can whip that big ole dog!

magpie said...

Oh, Joy - - but less than 30-seconds' worth !

Mits said...

would like to know where the panda cam operator is at NZ this a.m.???

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Get em Mits!!

Mits said...

well it is hard for the keepers to do the cams, but I'm sure they will try to get it focused on the cake reveal at 8:30a.m.

Mits said...

ok, guess cam person finnaly got there.
