We have pictures of all three grandchildren as well as many other babies taken with name trains that Jack has made. Jacob was looking at the three pictures. He told Jack "I was the cutest baby." DEVELOPING STORY: The captain of a Continental Airlines flight en route from Brussels, Belgium, to Newark, N.J., died during the trip, FOX News confirmed.

The pilot died Thursday aboard Continental Flight 61, and the co-pilot took over the aircraft's controls, FAA spokesman Les Dorr told FOX.

The plane was scheduled to land in Newark about 11:43 a.m. EDT.

not a good flight:(

It is really humid today - Not sure the rain will do any good.

stronghunter said...

I see the OK eaglet is still sitting in the tree. Are the parents feeding it there?

Does anyone know?

I think there was a food delivery at Finneys. Second adult showed up for a moment. Now it looks like the little ones are being fed. They are so cute.

Mema Jo said...

Yesterday the OK eaglet was on the other side of that tree with the adult where he is now. I am sure he will be fed - just don't know where. Hidey had come back into the nest for eating and hopefully this one will also.

stronghunter said...

Hi Jo, I am glad to know that the adults have been tending to the OK eaglet. I had not seen that. Didn't watch much yesterday.

It is true that Hidey stayed away from the nest for some time after that first flight. I guess the eaglet is probably a bit shocked and needs to build up some courage to fly back. Hidey seems to have been blown out in the night, and this guy has to fly over the water for a short distance.

I am enjoying watching the Finney nest, too.

WHOO HOO !!!

stronghunter said...

I don't remember exactly, either, Jo. It seemed like a long time, and we were worried because no one we were in touch with had seen Hidey leave. I think that was when I first started messaging on this blog.

I got to see Hidey return. That was exciting. I remarked to my son that Hidey was back and that we were all worried. He said, "But won't it eventually leave and not come back." --Of course, but we wanted to be sure Hidey was safe.

He also said, "Someone actually drove to the nest to see if the eaglet was okay?" Sure did--and lots of people were waiting to see what she learned!

Mema Jo said...

One of the eaglets is at the BWE nest

Link BWE - just click on right side the BWOsprey page

Mits said...

Jo, just sent you 2 sites, that you might be able to follow the flight from Germany

Mema Jo said...

Thanks - going to forward to her Mom and then try to find out airline & info.

stronghunter said...

Thanks, Jo. I got it.

stronghunter said...

A question . . .At the OK site, that looks like an adult on the lower part of the branch and the eaglet above. Does anyone see that?

email from my boss at NZ....
Subject: Deer birthing season -- leave 'em where they lay

Hi everyone,

It is deer birthing season. We have lots of wild whitetail deer in the park, and lots of babies being "parked". Since the fawns are "hiders" rather than "followers", this "parking away from mom" is normal deer behavior -- the fawns are not "orphans".

1) Our visitors should know that we know about these animals, if they ask or are concerned. The deer are wild, we are trying to leave them that way, and people should not approach or touch fawns. We all need to remember that some of the deer mothers are so tame that they nurse their fawns right in front of crowds of visitors -- this does not make them so tame that anyone should approach them closer, because they may try to defend their young.

2) If you see a deer fawn "parked" in a road or path, feel free to call Animal Care or the Police so it does not get hit or injured. If it is just off the road or path in a highly public area, you might mention it to a local keeper so we continue to keep track of its location as we have done in previous years. If it is elsewhere in the Park, it is wild and we just leave it where it lays.

Remember, we are working in an urban natural park filled with beautiful local wildlife -- bugs, snakes and other reptiles, migratory birds and resident birds, and mammals of many types. We try to let the wildlife stay wild by leaving it alone whenever we can.

Thanks very much for your help in educating our visitors and seasonal staff about this.

Our own Megan knew what she was doing with the fawn the other day:)

Got to meet Steve today, and he was kind enough to drive me over to the NCTC Eagle Cam nest.

Nobody home at the time, but it was still great to see it in person. :-)

Lolly said...

Loading the trailer. Seems strange to be loading jeans, sweatshirts and coats, but more than a good change to need them. Never know....may wear shorts or could be in snow.

It is presently 93.....Colorado here I come! Oh, to be cool!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Lisa, so glad you got to visit the sycamore tree!! It does make it seem different when you can see it like that!

Lolly said...

Lisa, great that you got to see the nest. Sorry no one was at home. Belle and Lib are not minding their manners! Is is not just fantatic to see the nest? I was there with Deb when she took that pic of the eagles on the tree. (the pic on the front of the blog) I was in awe!

floralgirl said...

Cool, Lisa:) Always neat to see the nest in person, even if it is empty. I'm always amazed by how huge it is.
It is really humid out there, and the bugs are biting me.... At least the ground is so wet I can plant and not have to water them in immediately.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Our little baby just got fed by (I think) Lib.

Mits said...

that is great Lisa:)

stronghunter said...

Lolly, I believe you said you are going to Colorado. In Colorado, you could be wearing shorts and sandals with snow around you. We were there July 4 many years ago, and went into the mountains. I have pictures of my children in shorts and sandals with snow piles nearby.

My brother lives in Fort Collins. I know he takes a jacket to go out on a warm summer day because the weather changes so quickly.

It is a beautiful state.

stronghunter said...

I just found the NCTC nest on Google Earth. I have been looking for it, but did not know what to enter. Finally figured it out, thanks to everyone's blogs.

Here's a tidbit for the early morning: It's going to be a four-planet event in the East before Dawn: Crescent Moon, Venus and orangey colored Mars will be grouped together closely, and further to the left and lower on the horizon, all COULD be visible, if you have some clear skies! Hope someone (including ME) gets to see this! ☺ (I will have to sneak out of the office to try)

magpie said...

Oh, what's the fourth planet? Jupiter, which will be further to the right and higher, South of all this!

Mema Jo said...

Robert I have been watching the 3 eaglets at Duke Farms. This am I guess the 1 was behind the tree trunk - I thought it has fledged! Won't be long. Looks like the rain is keeping them quiet right now.

Mema Jo said...

Oh My! I can't sit here much longer and watch for the OK eaglet to take off to the trees or the nest. Camera folks are doing a great job tracking his whereabouts!

ceil said...

Lolly many years ago we went to Colorado. Cold one day. Hot the next. Went to Estes Park for a picnic. Had to put the fried chicken and potato salad on the plate before it blew away. Love being in the mountains in July with snow right there.

I guess I am not awake yet.
I forgot to mention, MERCURY will be twinkly planet low to the left on the Horizon. Sorry about all that...

Mema Jo said...

What time do you have to sneak out for a break to see this fabulous display in the sky?

Afternoon all. Checking out the blog this morning and I just now got back.
A big welcome to all the new bloggers.
Lots of bad weather in Pittsbugh last evening, but just rain here. Hope you WV folks fared all right.
I've been trying to keep the starlings away from my suet...they ate a whole portion in 2 hours earlier today while a Hairy Woodpecker dad and youngster watched in safety. I have it out for the woodpeckers........
Our local two eagle nests seem to have young, but I can't get close enough to tell how many. Those white heads of the parents make it easy to count. I did get a chance to hear our Hidey this am. She must have been begging for food. I haven't caught sight of her since she fledged.
Lolly, I lived in Colorado for several years back in the 60's and still have some kin there. It can get to 95 in the daytime then down to 45 at night, so you will need those sweat shirts. None of that Texas humidity!!!
Hope everyone has a safe evening.

Hi, Everyone,

I'm finally checking in today! Slept in late this morning, and it felt SOOO good! I'm happy to report that I only missed one question on the test in Surgical Instruments that I got back last night! Scored 98 out of 100! Thank the Lord!!!!! (It HAD to be HIM-- it couldn't have been my rusty ole brain!) So THANK YOU for all your prayers, and please keep them coming! HUGE couple of nights next week-- I'm taking two tests in one night on Wednesday! Covering 11 chapters! Needless to say, I'm locking myself into a closet with both medical textbooks and a flashlight, and I'm only coming out to eat, use the loo, and maybe to sleep.

Ms Bookworm said...

Lots of prayers being said for all who need them today-- for healing, safety, and renewal of strength.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LYNN'S MOM!!! Pray that it turns out to be a very, very special day!

Well, gotta run and hit the books-- no time to waste. As Magpie always says, God bless us, every one! Will BBL if at all possible.

I've come in and out of this site for a couple years. I enjoy the nestcam and read the comments occasionly. I live about 8 miles west of the nest, and my wife looked up and asked "what kind of bird is that?" I looked up and saw a big bird that, though looking that it was trying to master flight it still had the majesty of an eagle. I think it was the fledging. Rick.

stronghunter said...

What a wonderful thing to see, Rick--and what a way to express it--"with the majesty of an eagle." Thanks for telling us.

Hi Mema Jo, according to the info on the Duke Farms cam site, two are going on 11wks and one 10wks.
Today one of them was hop flying back and forth across the nest and up on that right side trunk. Once he was flapping like crazy, just then a big leaf covered the lens, when it cleared he was gone, I thouht he fledged, but I found him behind that other trunk.

Bill asked me when I saw the bird. It was about 5:45. The coloration was a bit high to see, but I know I can tell an adult from that height. Rick.

Robert I must have been watching about the same time as you were on the Duke Farms. That leaf came on the cam & I thought Oh No - I'm going to miss something important. What I loved the best was the bouncing off of the limb on the right side of the nest... Back in 2006 we had one that would do the same thing as he practiced all the wing exercises!

Bill said...

Thanks Rick, good to have another guy on here, think we're outnumbered

Mema Jo said...

You may be outnumbered but we sure appreciate your input!

Good evening!

We have been camping in Colorado for years! I think Jack's and my first trip was about 38 years ago. We go about every two years. We used to tent camp, now the trailer. Laurel and the boys will be in a tent. We raised our two kids hiking in the mountains. Joseph and Jacob already have hiking sticks and the hiking stick medallions. We always go to Rocky Mt. Natl Park just outside Estes Park. When our kids were little we went in Sept., but usually go now this time of year. Crowds really pick up in July and we try to avoid the peak season. We have seen all kinds of weather conditions, including 8" of snow on our tent.

Jo, so excited that you are going to see your family from Germany. You finally get to see those girls. Whoopee! Enjoy them!!

Mema Jo said...

Hi Lolly - won't be long now! They do get in very late this evening and by the time they get luggage and clear customs I won't hug them until tomorrow. Early tomorrow I might add!
When they get here this evening the girls should be wide awake having had their night time (Germany) on the plane.

You have a BLAST in CO. Great to hear the boys already have their walking sticks!

wvgal_dana said...

Evening Eagleland

Mema Jo so glad it will soon be actual arms around those grandkids.

Bill and Rick keep coming back and bring your friends. Maybe then you guys won't be quite as outnumbered.

paula eagleholic said...

Dana - good to see you on here today. How's Ed feeling today?

wvgal_dana said...

Ceil sorry about your neighbors brother. Prayers for neighbor and family.

Margy we got a beautiful "Cardinal" today ( :

deb said...

I have been trying to get on here for about an hour, but had to feed dogs, then two phone calls, now my dinner is done and I can get on. It is hot an humid here, too, Megan, I should be mowing, but hope tomorrow is nicer.

wvgal_dana said...

Paula he is tired. Resting on couch with feet up--swelling. Most of day at Union Hall about what the Retiree's are losing plus changes in Health care and raising of cost to them.

All in all we made it through it.
Next meeting for that in August.

Just have to carry more tanks when we have to do something like that.

paula eagleholic said...

Deb - I had tonight's humid night or tomorrow's humid night to mow! LOL

paula eagleholic said...

Where is Ed retired from?

Mits said...

yes Paula, deer roam the zoo, last year we had to watch for them in the otter exhibit, the used to fall into the moats.....GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE:)P.S. the deer were ok.

wvgal_dana said...

If I remember correctly. One time someone mentioned a site where you can see your house and even see your street. In winter you could see how much snow you were getting on your street. Anyone know that site?

wvgal_dana said...

Paula Mack Trucks Hagerstown, Md.

deb said...

Paula, this storm system is supposed to move out of here, so I am hoping it helps. Humid is usually what we have in the summer, but not this year. We haven't had any so we could get adjusted to it.

deb said...

The economy is sure taking a toll on everything, I am glad you made it through this round, Dana.

ceil said...

Lolly that is right you have been to Denver many times. When we visited there we liked it so much we almost moved there.
Dana thanks.
Mits I know that one time I saw one on the cheetah cam run through the cheetahs cage area. The cheetahs were inside thank heavens.
Sorry but bet that was funny falling into the otter pond. Pleasant dreams everyone

wvgal_dana said...

Yep Deb the economy sure has. It has caught a lot of people and companies.

I just have always known somehow we will make it. Faith is what gets us through. We both still feel we are blessed. Not saying we don't get sad. Just some things you just can't waste energy on. The economy is one .

THERE WENT SPIDEY... tee hee

wvgal_dana said...

Night Ceil take care.

Our daughter says that Colorado is great for her complexion.

Mema Jo said...

Good Night Sisters

Dana - does Ed have the use of the home unit instead of tanks at the house?
Those tanks are Heavy! Four hrs worth of ox weighs almost 5 lbs and when you need to take others - it's a load but it's good breathing!

Costume Lady said...

Deb, I do believe the economy is affecting EVERYONE. Last year was one of the worst years I have ever had in my Shop. I am not stocking up on much of anything this year in anticipation of another bad season. This will be my 25th year. I wanted to have some kind of a celebration, but I will have to tone it down, I guess:(

Costume Lady said...

Dana, I feel so badly for you and Ed. Is there any chance of him getting better?

Lolly said...

We are leaving early Monday for Colorado. We have a family wedding in Dallas on Sunday. We will be ready to go Saturday. Laurel will come Sunday and we will load her stuff. We will drive as far as New Mexico on Monday and arrive at our campsite on Tuesday afternoon. We will be there until the following Monday. Arriving back home probably on Wed. We are on no schedule on returning. We will take our time driving down through the mountains.

Also, Jack's sister and her husband from Georgia will be there in their RV. They will be camping outside the park at a RV park. We are roughing it. No hookups!

wvgal_dana said...

Mema Jo he has a concentrator and a unit where he can fill his smaller tanks himself (he has 4 of them). Before on pulse breathing those lasted 3-4 hrs. Now they only last little over and hour because he is now on level 4 continous.

We get (like for the meeting today) the E cylinders (I call them the "topedos") one will last him alittle over 2 hours. We don't fill them. Just get them and take them back whenever we need them.

Then if the electric goes out we have "the bomb". It is not as tall as what is on ambulance but it bigger around. So equals same amount.

wvgal_dana said...

riclmbo=rocking in chair laughing my butt off Lolly hee hee "roughing it" in a camper. Just kidding like a back to nature. That is what Sleepy Creek is like that Margy talks about. No hookups..no bathrooms...no water facilities...mostly people take tents.

deb said...

We are getting a lot of calls about how the economy is affecting people at work, asking what they can do to save money. It does get kind of depressing hearing it from so many people.

Today I had an older lady call me and then she asked if I could hold, so I said yes. Then she told me she had taken a water pill and would be right back. It brightened the day of everyone around me, a good laugh helps the day go by faster!

Lolly said...

They are scanning the horizon at OK looking for the eaglet, I guess. Not going to find him this time of night.

paula eagleholic said...

Sounds like a great trip, Lolly.

OK, Dana, got it.

paula eagleholic said...

And yes, I would have to agree the economy still sucks!

deb said...

Both osprey in Finland.

Lolly said...

Oh we will have bathrooms with pottys and sinks,(short hike) but at the campsite no hook ups for water or electricity. We will just have what we have in the tanks and batteries. Mostly will miss my microwave and coffee pot. Will have to perk my coffee on the stove. LOL

wvgal_dana said...

Lolly I hope you all have a wonderful time. I will take the trip with you and Jack. By the pictures you share with us when you get back. ( :

Lolly said...

And, we do not have a generator so we have to be conservative with the battery. What I really like most is MY BED.

Lolly said...

Will do, Dana. Will think of you and Ed. Hopefully, your daughter can come to visit.

Well, Tom, Sissy, Mattie and Sissy's friend Crystal are bound for the beach. They left at 6 p.m. and have stopped somewhere on the other side of Greensboro to spend the night. They head to Kure in the morning. I don't like them! Andrew has gone camping with Kelsey. Thelma is here with Buddy. I brought Ellie Mae (Sissy's favorite daughter) out here. She was pitiful at the house so we will try it. Now there are 6 dogs here. Thank God I am a dog person! :)

wvgal_dana said...

Wanda sorry wasn't ignoring you. I can't give you that answer yet. Untrasound will be taken on June 22nd for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysn. Doctor will call to set up appointment for results of that. As for the PET scan that was taken Wednesday June 17th we will hear results on June 23rd.

paula eagleholic said...

It's cooled down nice here....67° now...

Mema Jo said...

Dana - sounds like my set-up except I have 3 different size portable tanks:
4 - 6 - 9 hours. I am only on 2 liters and that makes a difference in the time.
Like they say It is what it is!
Prayers for you & Ed and hope you have been feeling well enough recently.
