Hi Norma...

Thank you for the wonderful greetings.

Hidey is something, isn't she. She is such a joy to watch and listen to. The more I watch her the more I am happy that she seems so eager to start her own journey through life. I'm excited for her.

I certainly am enjoying this beautiful day. Getting ready to start some projects that I have been looking forward to.

About the article I wanted to post a link to here earlier, it was a story about an eaglet in Ottawa County Ohio that had been in the nest (with her brother) and the nest was blown out of the tree. After being cared for, she was being placed with a "foster family" of eagles at the Ottawa County Wildlife Refuge. Her brother had a broken leg but it looks as if he is going to have a full recovery and will then undergo an attempt to prepare him to be set free. I wish I could have posted the link. It was a very nice article.

You all have a beautiful weekend..

Tammy

UPDATE BWO...............

Nest Update

06/06/09:
After our heavy rains, the father osprey brought in a meal this morning and both chicks were fed.

The last egg is hard to see, but we think it's still there. If it is, the chick should hatch on June 7.

You can view the article by going to

www.portclintonnewsherald.com

On the mainpage in the center you will see a link to "MORE LOCAL NEWS" Click on that.

On the next page it takes you to,

IN the center column you will see "PAST EDITIONS" with Friday in the box. Click "GO"

Once it goes to Friday's articles, the story about the eaglet is the second story in the list.

Enjoy.

I grew up watching the eagles in Ottawa County. The picture in my avatar came from close by where this eaglet will be calling home until she is ready to venture out on her own.

Enjoy...

Lolly said...

Nope! Has not fledged! I do believe I can see the top of his head. Hard to tell.

Adult watching the sky intently, maybe looking for Hidey

Lolly said...

Hugs to you, Norma! I have to check on my great friends! And, I love your warm good morning greetings!

Lolly said...

I bet Hidey is down on Eagle School Road. Ha! Isn't that the correct name? I saw it when we were there. I was thrilled to see the street name. Jack just laughed at me.

Lolly said...

But, hey, he can not laugh at me or tease me anymore. I have to tell you that he spent a great part of his afternoon following a caterpillar across our yard. We grow Fennel just to feed a particular caterpillar that hatches into a beautiful black butterfly. This caterpillar was ready to pupate, it left the fennel and traveled 30 feet to a bush. It climbed up and started its process. He named it Bill. LOL Well, apparently a bird ate Bill. Ahhhh, the life of retirees!

normabyrd said...

THANKS TAMMY!---I found your article----It also said that the ERIE EAGLE would be fostered in with the OTTAWA family!--beautiful story!!---I grew up on the WV-OH line---had relatives in AKRON!!

normabyrd said...

LOLLY--My husband was named BILL! ho!---I can sing sing 'POOR BUTTERFLY'---if that would help!!---funny--

Costume Lady said...

Lolly, you are absolutely right, Eagle School Road. That is where their parents take them to learn to fish and other lifes' lessons. There are many accidents at that intersection. Must be that the drivers are looking at the eagles and not the road!;)

normabyrd said...

REMEMBER!-----TODAY IS D-DAY----LET US NEVER FORGET!!----65th Anniversary

Costume Lady said...

Lolly, next time, tell Jack to get the caterpillar into a container so the birds can't dine on them and watch the process...fascinating!

Norma, I love you and all of your comments to everyone.I love being retired. When I started menopause it was time to get out of nursing, even though I loved it and would never have chosen another profession.I keep one of my grands every afternoon and feel like he's my child. I'm so blessed to have both of my grandchildren in Lancaster. Wish my husband would cut back. He's a F.P. physician and works 16 hrs. some days. Hope to see Hidey sometime today. Love, Gwen

Lolly said...

Will do, Wanda! We were all prepared to watch Bill. Sad!

Norma, he said he named it Bill because that could be a girl or a boy name. LOL My mother's nickname was Bill. Her daddy had wanted another boy, said he would still call her Bill. LOL As she grew older she was Aunt Bill to a lot of cousins.

normabyrd said...

Lolly said...

Tammy, thanks for the article. Very interesting! I wonder about the age of the eaglets it was placed with. They would have to be about the same age.

Well, gotta go, dear friends! Can not sit here all day. Have food to prepare, tables to set out, etc! Going to record the race today to view later.

Have a great day!

Mema Jo said...

Hi Norma - I was just watching those long legged high nested herons the other day! That cam on Wild Watch is really good.

I can see the OKLA eaglet resting down in the nest - only the wide range view. I did see the close up yesterday & s/he looks like first flight is near. I wonder where they fly first time around with being in the middle of the water.

Mema Jo said...

Hope Jack finds another "Bill" to watch.

Mema Jo said...

Steve will be a happy nestor again as I did check out beakspeak to see that we were #1 yesterday and for the last 7 days! Of course we don't need the polls to tell us what we already know about being #1!

I can only hope that most bloggers were viewing last night's escapades which Norma mentioned earlier. Quite a show from our 'young'n'. Hidey outdid her food capturing skills!

Mema Jo said...

Tammy that is a great article

Yes, Lynn, my only goal today is laundry and rest.

It is snowing in Montana, too. They are supposed to get 5-10 inches. I hope the Osprey nest weathers the storm.

No snow here......up to 89 now. But, the humidity is down, so that is good. Quite pleasant in the shade if you sit still. Tonight should be okay. Company comes at 6. It should be a little cooler and the whole back yard will be shaded.

movin said...

Good morning again.

Glad to see Hidey flaked out in the nest this A.M. ... must know it's the weekend and he can sleep in. Hahaha.

Seriously, they need to rest and stretch and grow, but it was too wet yesterday and last night. Reminds me of me when I was in my early teens.
[In fact I sometimes need it today too. Hahaha.].

Can't believe it. In a few short hours they got a perfect picture, which refreshes when it's supposed to, at Finney's site!

Have a great Saturday, everyone.

Not quite sure what Hidey was just doing, flapping around the nest like before she fledged. Maybe it is her way of asking for a food drop.

Lolly said...

LOL Jo! That did look like a tantrum.

deb said...

I haven't heard of the show, but I have spent a lot of time in Chamberlain, SD. It is right on the Missouri River.

movin said...

Good morning, Norma.

I'm with you 100% on the Belmont. Mine That Bird is the favorite for a very good reason.

The only "possible" contenders would be unknown distance runners that haven't run in this series yet. "Gentleman..something", can't recall the exact name, would be a possibility.

But I think it will be Calvin Borel on Mine That Bird over the finish line first.

I've got to see if the track is drying out yet. Sloppy tracks don't make for the most exciting races.

Liverpool-England-I saw this eaglet`s fledge last Saturday morning @ between 5-40 & 5-55am USA time...he left the nest on the left hand side underneath the webcam. I could see his wing tip flapping from a branch nearest cam and he was squeaking franticly. I didn`t see him again until the ~Sunday evening - what a fright I thought he`d got lost...Brill cam... watch everyday.

hedgie said...

The annual Arietid meteor shower peaks on Sunday, June 7th. The Arietids are unusual because they are daytime meteors; they stream out of a point in the sky not far from the sun. The best time to look is just before dawn on Sunday morning when it may be possible to spot a small number of Arietids skimming the top of Earth's atmosphere. Such "Earthgrazing" meteors tend to be long, colorful, and very pretty.

Oh, Jo, a girl after my own heart. my folks loved to tell the story of me carrying worms and kissing them!! Guess that's why I never minded feeding my toads through the years! stronghunter said...

Thanks Deb.

It is good to see Hidey coming and going. I haven't been able to get online much recently. We have had so many storms in Virginia, I was a bit concerned that something could have happened to the nest, but it looks like the eagles have weathered the storms okay.

deb said...

Time to fold towels, bbl.

hedgie said...

Deb, didn't see an anticipated completion date for Crazy Horse...11 yrs. in progress so far! Looks like they have a heck a long way to go!

stronghunter said...

Well goodness, that eaglet won't starve. The parents are certainly patient.

stronghunter said...

Is that white thing in the middle of the nest the turtle shell?

I guess Hidey took too big of a bite.

Donka Maria said...

Is it me or does Hidey look bigger than Lib? Could be Hidey's a girl!!

Donka Maria said...

That is Lib in the nest (being bitten on by Hidey)?

stronghunter said...

I suppose all of the flying around makes Hidey hungry.

Ricky376 said...

Turtle seem to be a big part of out little eaglet's diet. Along with fish.

stronghunter said...

Hello, Donka, I do not know the adults apart yet.

PA Nana said...

Looked like Hidey bit Lib on the wing.

stronghunter said...

I saw that, too. I expect Hidey could deliver quite a peck.

Donka Maria said...

Hi Stronghunter, Belle is larger than Lib. It appears that our little eaglet is almost the same size if not bigger than the parent that was just there, that's why I assumed it was Lib. Belle usually looks bigger than Hidey depending on the location of our baby or his mamma.

deb said...

I think it is hard to tell which bird is bigger unless they stand right next to each other. Most of the time Hidey looks bigger than Lib, but he is always at the back of the nest.

normabyrd said...

MARIA----I love your DOG!!---What's his/her name?

stronghunter said...

Thanks, Donka. I have heard that the female is larger than the male, but I have some problem telling which is which unless I see them both, and then, as you say, it depends on how far they are from the camera.

Hidey really looks big. I guess he /she might not grow much larger.

Donka Maria said...

Hi Normabyrd. Thank you and her name is Roxie. She'll be 11 in August. Don't have any children of my own, just Roxie and my black Torti cat Annabelle.

stronghunter said...

Is the OK eaglet the one at the Sutton site with all of the water around it?

deb said...

Lynn, Crazy Horse is funded by donation only, no government money, so it is taking a long time to complete. If they would have taken money from the government, it would be done by now, but they wouldn't have retained control of the project.

Poof, Belle.

Hey, I feel good that I remember the name of the horse.

stronghunter said...

I am always impressed at how patient those eagle parents are.

stronghunter said...

How much longer can we expect the eagles to hang around the nest?

deb said...

Not too much longer, about a month at the most. Then later this winter, they will start getting the nest ready for next year. Early next year the visits will bet more frequent and we will see them getting serious about nesting.

Thanks, Deb.

Nice to see the Finney nest cam back to normal! Sure wish water one was working...I want to see a ferry!!

deb said...

I wish it were, too, Lynn. I love that water nest.

hedgie said...

Susan in Central VA---welcome. So cool that you will be visiting...do you have family in Martinsburg? We have quite a few Momsters in and around Martinsburg!
I'm right nearby in Hedgesville.

You're talking about the nest in Finland? I had been wondering why people kept saying that they saw boats at that site. I had just seen the one view with no water. Is there another nest, or are they different views of the same nest?

Sometimes Steve is slow to answer emails, so you can email Mema Jo (just cick on her name and then on email)and she can give you his secretary's number.

Stronghunter, the other Finland nest is on the shore of a fjord. Beautiful....but it got knocked out by a hailstorm on 23 May. doubtful that it will get repaired this season. Cam is frozen on a foggy pic:

Thanks, Hedgie. It would be nice to see that one in action.

The osprey and the sea eagles battle over the nest....at last view, the osprey had won the rights!! But we hadn't seen any eggs before the cam went out. I will post a pic of the sea eagles on my blog, Lynns' Lair.....give me a minute.

hedgie said...

Okay, stronghunter, pic is posted...just click on my blue name and then scroll down to my blog!
I misspoke...there were two eggs in the nest before cam went down (osprey eggs!).

Ladies and Gentlemen...it is ALMOST post-time!

Hedgie,
On the Finland blue link you posted on here just a bit ago, I can't get anything to come up on my computer. Is it just me?
Let's go MINE THAT BIRD!

stronghunter said...

Thanks, Hedgie. You have done a lot of work on your blog. I've enjoyed your pictures before.

stronghunter said...

Hidey just landed nicely.

Bibee said...

Well, Summer Bird won. Mine that Bird was third. At least a BIRD won!

hedgie said...

Oh my, Norma....too bad....I think Calvin held him back a little too long....but I think Summer Bird is a brother of Mine That Bird....and at least for us, the winner did have Bird in its' name!!

stronghunter said...

Sorry, Norma.

hedgie said...

Bibee, it must be you!! Your computer, I mean....it opens fine for me from that link.
Thanks, stronghunter....I'm just an amateur....we have so many who do much more much better!

hedgie said...

Norma, am I remembering right or wrong....did Kent Desormieaux (sp?) ride at CharlesTown at one time???

stronghunter said...

I had no trouble opening the link either, Hedgie.

hedgie said...

Wow, Summer Bird went off at 11-1!

hedgie said...

Some dispute going on that he may have bumped someone....if verified, disqualified....which would put Mine into 2nd....which of course is still a loss.

stronghunter said...

I've only been to one horserace. I don't think we even placed any bets. Eleven to one would be good odds, though.

stronghunter said...

I don't think it was Summer Bird involved in the controversy. It was the horse that came in 2nd.

Bibee said...

Hedgie, my computer says that internet explorer can not display the web page. So, I guess I can't get to that one. Thanks any way!

stronghunter said...

Dunkirk--that's the one that came in second.

hedgie said...

Okay, all official....Summer Bird payed $25.80 on a win. Not too shabby if anyone bet a lot!

stronghunter said...

I got it on Internet Explorer.

Bibee said...

Hedgie, I have one on my favorites. It says looduskalender.ee It is ospreys and eagles in finland. Is that the same one? It opens just fine for me.

hedgie said...

Bibee, try rebooting your puter and then try again!
