Morning eagle dudettes and dudes! How is everyone today? Metro area got hit hard this am! Glad we and the nest were spared!! Intermittant sun and clouds here, getting muggy, but like Wanda said, so far no precip.
Lolly, busy days ahead.....those two will run you ragged!!! But know you'll love every minute of it!

** GooD MORNING **

** EVERYoNE **

fINNEY looks like she might have hatched one. Take a look.

BWO has some pics you can just about see the two chicks this A.M. [:~D]

NBG, which has been down for me, two days I think, is now up again. I spotted two eaglets in and about the nest, but they have even more goop on the lens, so there is quite an area where a fledgling could hide. According to the blog, the third chick (the one that fell out of the nest) was the second one to fledge.

That would be the first eagle nest I've seen that fledged out of order.

paula eagleholic said...

Guess that fall by the youngest at NBG was inspiring...liked that taste of freedom.

I agree Jim, first time I've known of fledging out of order.

Nice to see NBG back up

paula eagleholic said...

And yes, that smushed spider is more smushed.

Good Morning ALL in Eagleland and watchers.

Long time no see....a lot has been going on.

Still won't know about Ed's breathing until tomorrow afternoon.
He woke up yesterday to go to Wellness Center. Was "red" from head to toe. I figured out it was a reaction to a medication he has taken for awhile. Just waited and it went away within 1 hr. He see's that Dr. Friday so we will ask him why such a delayed reaction.

Had a Great Granddaughter born Monday 2:38am makes 5 Greats for Ed now. She is cute as a button. 6lbs. 19 inches and lots of light brown hair Kloey.

Then we found at 1pm Monday yesterday we are closing a close friend. He and wife are both 73. He had a massive heart attack and now taken off life support. He was healthy between the two of them. Only support is hugs and prayers and visiting with her. SAD...so nice people.

Mits said...

Congrats Dana, on the new GGD, and prayers for your friend.

Hidey came in and is mantling....parent left!

paula eagleholic said...

Hidey eating

Laynie said...

Hidey is funny the way he grabs the food from mom/dad and then spreads those wings to "protect HIS food". Tch, tch... stingy little Hidey. lol

Lolly said...

Getting my thrill for today!!! Watching with a smile on my face the OK eaglet. It is wingercising and it is just beautiful! Go OK go!

Lolly said...

From the OK blog:

9 June: The eaglet is now old enough to go to the bar. Well, fly up to the crossbar, that is! She
(we think it is a she based on size and behavior) is exercising her wings with this short hop. The
adults spend very little time at the nest, primarily dropping off a fish once or twice a day.

movin said...

Laynie, it does look funny, but it is a necessary behavior (mantling), which the young eaglet will need when it leaves the nest and starts competing for food with other birds and animals.

Hidey is only moderately aggressive. One we had at Santa Cruz a couple of years ago would get so fearsome he would almost take his father's leg off before he could drop the fish for the youngster to feed.

You can see some people watching the operation through the glass.

Do you know why zoos stopped using one-way glass??

Jim

movin said...

You can see all three eaglets back at the nest in Norfolk right now.

C(°ٿ°)D

Jim

Laynie said...

Movin... thanks for the info!! I figured the aggressive behavior was normal to protect their food, and at some point their kill!

Question... are most Eaglets as vocal as Hidey?

paula eagleholic said...

Sorry to hear about your friend Dana.

Congrats on the new GGD!!

paula eagleholic said...

They are all vocal when there is food involved! The TH chicks are quite the peepers as well!

movin said...

Yes, Laynie, if there are multiple eaglets, things often get more noisy and aggressive than Hidey has been.

HELP

MY CAM IS NOT WORKING

IS IT JUST MINE?

wvgal_dana said...

Thanks Mits and Paula...most babies are cute. It is neat with this one because the Daddy know I love him. He even tells me he loves me. So I don't care if the baby would just call me Dana. I know I'm special in their lives.

Thanks also about Ed's and my friend. My prayer is that he doesn't linger. That would be easier for her also.

Boy these eaglets are really wanting to soar.

Haven't heard about the fun they had. DIL took ggs and some others to DC National Zoo yesterday. Can't wait to hear what Brayden did (2yrs. old) tee hee

wvgal_dana said...

Prayers are with Deb

I went to show her the Live Feed - it was down. Is your's up?

movin said...

Yes, Mema Jo, my live feed was frozen when your comment made me look; I refreshed it, and now I have a blank gray screen where the sycamore and nest had been.

Guess it is down alright, Mema Jo.

update from BWO....

Nest Update

06/09/09:
Here's a good shot of our two little osprey chicks being fed. And in this photo you can even see the crop on one chick.

We aren't seeing the third chick, so we're starting to believe it did not make it.

Steve Chase said...

The cam should be up soon. My Outdoor TV is doing some maintenance.

wvgal_dana said...

Yes Lynn the kids (younger than me lol) are from here. She was born at City Monday 2:39am. 6 lbs 17" long lots of light brown hair. OOOPsss I think I'm repeating myself. duh

Jo hope Kristen gets to see LIve FEED before they leave.

Lynne2 said...

Hi everyone, just popped in for a Hidey and weather check....looks like a lot of us are in for a bumpy ride shortly so batton down the hatches! BBL

NatureNut said...

Boo Hoo, live cam down. I thought I would have new news from here at Patuxent River Park, BUT not much. Some people believe all our 3 eaglets have fledged--haven't seen them for awhile and an osprey cam was placed on another nest to the right of the boat ramp. The original cam konked out, however new one is not connecting today. Could be that a muskrat chewed the wire!!??Greg, our naturalist, is checking all options. ☺

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Thanks Steve for letting us know. Waiting . . . waiting . . . waiting! :)

thanks, STEVE:)

NatureNut said...

Hi & Thx, Sharon. Good to be home!
There may be great sights to see elsewhere, but living is so much better here!!!

Dana, sorry about your friend but congrats on new baby in family. Why do we always say NEW baby? I don't think I've seen an OLD baby!! ☺

NatureNut said...

We had rain & lightning this AM, but now hot, sunny, & humid!

hedgie said...

SIL's bro just finished up a few last chores...after putting tools away in garage I always have him stomp around in there to make sure there's so birds or squirrels (have had problems with both when garage door left open). Five minutes after he left a big 6 ft. black snake came crawling from direction of garage...yuck! Guess it was underneath it. He was heading off into the woods....so I let him go to live another day!
BIG STORM brewing--almost here....shutting down. BBL.

wvgal_dana said...

Thanks Loretta....have they opened a new store so you can get your Italian food?

Mema Jo said...

Hello Our Ancient City Traveler! Good to have you back & glad you got your
walking feet back!

Cam does look smaller and a different volume control - I think. It is so funny what your memory can or rather cannot remember at times! Like just noticing something that has been there forever!.. Age related I think! or we just need to slow it down a bit!

NatureNut said...

P.S. Forgot to mention that there are lots of hummingbirds here now & I saw 2 at my home yesterday!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Cam is MUCH smaller. I was hoping it was going to have a record button but it does not. It does look clearer, however.

wvgal_dana said...

Lynn he'll keep your mice away.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I can, however, click my mouse anywhere on the page and hold ctrl button and roll my mouse roller up and it zooms in.

Mema Jo said...

Dana - congratulations on the ggd- So glad the new one is local for you & Ed.
I was able to spend time Sunday with the ggs - he is going to be one big guy! Happy as anything and he smiles a lot!

Poor Hidey, a terrible storm moving in

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Must be a storm blowing through NCTC! I had to hit F5 to get my cam to come back up, Mema Jo.

floralgirl said...

Yeah- some very nasty thunderstorms about to slam into us.

movin said...

Try refreshing, Mema Jo. Mine doesn't particularly resemble your description; however it is changed a lot since this morning.

It's working for a while, freezing for a while, working for a while....

Jim

Mema Jo said...

I didn't think to hit refresh. But just for the record I didn't even have a frozen pic - just the message and a PLAY button.

Mema Jo said...

Just put my deck umbrella down and secured the chairs in case that wind comes over the mountain into my valley!

movin said...

2 chicks visible at BWO.

C(°ٿ°)D

Jim

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I am sure they made the changes for those of us who put up the cam in the morning and leave it there all day. This will have to save bandwidth.

movin said...

Suddenly a large black item appeared at BWO. Is it a food item, or what??

C(°ٿ°)D

Jim

movin said...

I think the feed at BWO gave a false image for a minute.

The large black object became a normal looking shadow after a couple of refreshes.

C(°ٿ°)D

Jim

The large gold button with the message showed up on my live feed too Mema Jo.

But it resumed the feed when I clicked on it.

floralgirl said...

Well, I don't get the cam idle for 15 minutes message, I'm gonna have to refresh every 15 minutes?

Renee said...

Hidey landed for some dinner!! You could hear him coming. Lots of thunder and lightning going on there right now.

wvgal_dana said...

Got knocked off line due to storm. Passed through now.

floralgirl said...

Moving fast, Frederick county is getting slammed, can see bad lightining strikes in Hapers Ferry too.
Cam stops on me every 15 minutes...

wvgal_dana said...

My cam is working good since storm went through. I don't have a gold button anymore though.

wvgal_dana said...

Almost sounds like Big Foot stepping around in the forest on crunchy Autumn leaves.

floralgirl said...

Light rain here now, and wonderful cool air. Still more storms forming in PA that may hit here later.

wvgal_dana said...

Cam stopped I just had to refresh grr

Lynne2 said...

Lightning starting in the distance, gonna shut down, see you all later!

Mits said...

yep, my cam has the play again button after 15 mins...sound still not good, lot of buzzing and static as usual

floralgirl said...

So I guess this is there answer to lower bandwidth use, if you aren't at computer, the cam will stop after 15 minutes. And if you are watching, you have to hit play to restart, but it doesn't always work for me and I have to hit refresh.

floralgirl said...

Geez- I meant their. One would think I can't spell. Storms have passed here now.

Mits said...

that is what it sounds like, Megan.....Storms look to be here in about 20 to 30 mins.

paula eagleholic said...

Whoa, new look for our cam....

Picture is smaller.

wvgal_dana said...

I was wondering what button you all was talking about. Well it just happened as I finished reading Megan's comment.

floralgirl said...

Wait 15 minutes for the other new feature.

wvgal_dana said...

I too Megan hit the gold button and it didn't work have to refresh grrrr

Mits said...

Sharon, what did you say your mouse does..?...

wvgal_dana said...

Buckle you SeatBelt Mits if it's coming your way!!!

Mits said...

I'm watching it head this way, Dana

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

If your mouse has the roller on the top of it, hold down CTRL and roll your mouse up and it will zoom in on the page and make the picture bigger.

floralgirl said...

My cam keeps stopping constantly, can't get it to stay running.

floralgirl said...

Thanks, Sharon, that works for me.

paula eagleholic said...

And other improvements, I see.

I don't have any problem with them trying to conserve bandwith...a message letting you know it's stopped or about to is certainly appreciated, however.

Lightening at the nest?

paula eagleholic said...

And yes, they have some kinks to work out....no zoom.

wvgal_dana said...

Yes some of the other cams have that. Makes it nice you can just hit the play and keep going again.
If not at computer then it does safe of bandwidth.

I have liked it very much since we have had it with MYOUTDOORTV.COM

wvgal_dana said...

Paula yes there is zoom ... read above what Sharon wrote.

paula eagleholic said...

That doesn't work on everyone's Sharon....

paula eagleholic said...

The sound has to do with NCTC....

wvgal_dana said...

Have you tried the left click for zoom?

Mits said...

all I do is right click and it zooms to bigger view

floralgirl said...

Got about half an inch of rain here, temp has dropped 20°.

Mits said...

after 15 mins I hit the play button, but sound does not come back for me till I hit refresh

wvgal_dana said...

I would like it better if it said like some others. That in say 28 seconds and it counts down if you don't click here cam will stop.

paula eagleholic said...

OH, it zooms in, but you can't move it around...

wvgal_dana said...

Who all do we have that lives in California? I know Jim, Anne_Marie but dang I can't remember where she is at there?? Anyone Else?

My delete- Thanks Mits.

Ed's cousins brother is coming into the Lake of the Woods near Fredericksburg,VA. We use to go down more often and stay at the Lake. Only going down for 1 day so we can see Chip he is from California. Works in a hospital out there. Has for years. He is really a great guy!! I'm finding he lives close to our Jim so far.

What area does Andrea live in?

wvgal_dana said...

Ms Bookworm-Andrea, Our Jim and Ed's cousins brother so far all live near each other. On the map area of J4 for all three of them.

hedgie said...

Dana, Andrea lives fairly close to Jim. In fact, unless something has changed, she is planning on being our Momster representative at Debs' Dad's funeral tomorrow. Jim couldn't make it, and it's 10 hrs. from AnneMarie, tho' she was considering it. Haven't heard anything definite from her.

paula eagleholic said...

paula eagleholic said...

But had to refresh...

wvgal_dana said...

hedgie said...

Still very gloomy here....power went out once, but just for a minute---enough to have to reset digital clocks, satellite, etc.! Temp really dropped. No hail, not TOO much wind, but thunder was really bad.
Cam doing alright....Sharons' tip worked great---tg---cause image sure was small! Can't tell any difference in sound.

paula eagleholic said...

Later...

floralgirl said...

I hear Hidey!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Does anybody else have that green barber shop looking strip going under their cam pic sometimes?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I don't like the zoom with the right click because it distorts the picture. If I zoom in with my mouse and ctrl key, it keeps a clear pic but makes it bigger.

hedgie said...

I noticed the green thing before the pic came up, Shar and then it went away.

Mema Jo said...

Sharon The green strip is on for just a few seconds when I first put the cam up. Then it stops.

When it goes into the idle mode - the green strip appears again (I think-I need to check that out)

Mema Jo said...

Tiny bird in the nest
I did the Zoom In & it wasn't too bad

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Bird in the nest with delusions of grandeur!

wvgal_dana said...

Little bird in nest just flew out

Mema Jo said...

I just did 2 Zoom In's )1 right after the other) and it really got close for me to see the small bird. You need to place your cursor over the area you want to zoom in on.

Mits said...

I see no difference in my cam whether I right click and zoom or use the roller and Ctrl.....same pic

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

It don't make the pic bigger? Maybe it is because I am using Google Chrome?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

No, it works on IE too, so ladies, I don't have a clue! :)

Mema Jo said...

Roller & CTRL enlarges the entire pic on the cam.

'Zoom In' with the right mouse click pinpoints a specific area.

Does that make sense?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Yes ma'am, it does.

Mema Jo said...

Ho Ho! Did any of you click on any of the 'knobs' down by the green barber pole? Man! I clicked on the first one and the green barber pole JUST WON'T STOP RUNNING.
So I put it down and restarted in a new window and all is well.

Why do we have those 'knobs' if we don't know what they do? I can work the volume control! Whoo Hoo for me?

Mits said...

lol...stop talking that computer language to me Sharon....no understand it:)

Mits said...

Hidey's whine is getting a little deeper, not quite as high-pitched

Mits said...

yes, Jo

Bibee said...

Hey everybody! Just got home, been gone most of the day to a dr. appt. and then of course, to Walmart. I see there have been some problems with the cam today. I sure don't like the smaller picture. I always increase my screen size to 150% so I can see it better. Hope everyone is doing well.

Bibee said...

I just got the message that says camera idle for 15 min. What's going on? Is it going to be like this from now on?

Mema Jo said...

MAN! If you accidentally click your cursor along side of or below our cam in the darkened area - WOW! Up pops an all new site which really doesn't interest me!
You get a Tripjumper or US Fish & Wildlife videos.
Very touchy!!!!

wvgal_dana said...

Well I have to refresh because the green moving line just keeps on moving even 15 minutes later grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Mema Jo said...

Hi Bibee - 15 min is the way to conserve bandwidth
Click on the play button.... And you may need to Refresh after it starts up.
Green Barber pole with be there when you first start it.

wvgal_dana said...

I'm getting tired of refreshing!!!

Mits said...

there he is:)

wvgal_dana said...

Hidey just pluncked in

Bibee said...

Thanks for the info, Jo. What is the site for the OK eagles? I keep reading about them but was unsure where it was at. Thanks.

hedgie said...

Sure didn't stay very long! Guess he really loves this flying/soaring stuff, LOL!

Mema Jo said...

15 min idle - clicked on play
green pole still rolling - very distracting to say the least.....

Suggestion: next time something new is going to be tried - Could we test it first?

hedgie said...

Wonder if Margy got called into work early due to the storms? Not a word from her this afternoon/evening. Been too busy to pay much attention to scanner. Did hear that there was a river rescue on the Shenandoah just when the storm was approaching CharlesTown...a woman went over the dam and kept under...couldn't get free of the undertow....don't know the outcome. Prayers for her....but what was she doing there to begin with---geesh!

Mema Jo said...

OK Site - scroll down and give it time to connect. You may only get the wide view

Mema Jo said...

Received an email message from Bobbi down in FL about the Tesoro Eagles that we used to watch before the cam was taken down this season - good news to share with you............

Jo, had to let you know that today I saw a juvie flying over Tesoro it was truly beautiful. First time that I saw a juvie that close. I remember the nest year before last and know that you all had an interest in what was happening. The property was sold and of course the new management did not continue the live camera but thought you would like to know that there were eaglets this year and they survived and fledged and are enjoying their new freedom in the skies.
Take care, Bobbi

paula eagleholic said...

JO, when I see that pole keeps a rollin' I just refresh instead

wvgal_dana said...

I DON'T LIKE THIS NEW SETUP !!!!!
AND I CERTAINLY DON'T LIKE REFRESHING EITHER !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand what they are trying to do. Other sites have the time out too. But it tells you in so many seconds if you don't click here the cam will stop.

WELL THEY CAN HAVE MY TIME FOR THE NIGHT ---- I SHUT THE CAM DOWN. grrr

paula eagleholic said...

That's really cool about Tesoro...so glad to hear that!

Mema Jo said...

Small bird back again in the nest looking for scraps!

Mema Jo said...

Paula - refresh is hitting the F5 or

is it hitting the CTRL F5

And be careful where you have your cursor -

Mits said...

well the refreshing doesn't bother me, because I can never keep mine up when I am typing, but shut it down, because it seemed to be acting like a virus and while it was up, everything was crashing on me:(

ceil said...

Evening all. Just got back from PA.

I am enjoying the Burrowing Owls on the Wild Watch site... I wish that I could find that video about the fox trying to attack the one burrow and the little one scaring him off.

My sound is working, Hidey seems to be freaking out- very vocal- think the fish is stuck on his talon.

Maybe Hidey can't kill it or needs
help from an adult!
