There's a cute pic of the big girl who fell - it's in the top stores section so it should be easy to find.

Darn - they are just so adorable. Hard to believe Hidey is about this size (as one in pic who is 9 wks).

"Osprey-Eyed" Suzanne got a screen grab at 5:12 this morning of what she thought was a hatch at BWO - that cam goes nactive at 10 or 11pm I forget which....but I think the hatch date is today ☺

Have cheched Loch of the Lowe's Osprey site in Scotland, there is surely one of the three chicks absent from the nest, waiting for their diary to update.....so very sad, these chicks are not thriving too well, but I did see Isla with a nice fish a little while ago, trying to feed the other two..

Have to run out for awhile.
Best wishes for a Special Day for all.

Morning, all!

Don't know if anyone got to see the NBG eaglet returned to the nest - haven't read the blog. I tried, but the cam is down. Found this post by DGIF.

“Inadvertent Fledging”

Just before 6 pm this evening (June 2nd) Eaglet HE - the youngest of the three was hop-flying across the nest. This is typical behavior for young eagles and allows them to strengthen their flight muscles as they get closer to fledging. The eaglet overshot the rim of the nest slightly and dangled by its talons for a short time before releasing and dropping from the nest.

Garden visitors watched the young eagle spread its wings and glide a short distance away from the nest. Biologists with CCB and VDGIF responded along with Norfolk Botanical Garden personnel. CCB & NBG staff were able to capture the young bird without incident. The bird is unharmed.

VDGIF & CCB biologists will return the bird to the nest tomorrow morning. Nuckols Tree Care will again volunteer their services to assist us. If all goes according to plan the bird will remain in the nest for a week or more - gaining the strength it needs to successfully take its first flight.

paula eagleholic said...

Morning, all!

Just caught up...NBG fledged...can't blame that eaglet! Wouldn't want to be pulled out of the nest again. Did the other one climb out of the bag?

And a hatch at BWO!!YAY! This will keep Lisa busy over the next couple of months!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE...
It seems NBG always has some excitment there. Remember last year when the Horned Owl attacked the nest....and Buddy had a diseased and deformed beak? Now, a misguided landing and unintentional fledge. Never a dull moment. I think we need to take a Road Trip there:)

paula eagleholic said...

Well that was quick! NBG Eaglet safely returned to the nest.

Don't forget to read the last sentence of the article :)

ltl said...

that take-off was a little galumphy, but it did the trick.

paula eagleholic said...

Wow, quick exit! Hop from left to right and off! We are getting quite confident! Flying must be fun!!

Costume Lady said...

The last time I saw Hidey last night, he was in the nest just hollering his head off. Mom or Dad wouldn't feed him, so he took off. Don't know where he was during the bad storm that we had, but the rain probably helped with his bug problem:) I taped the hollering and fly-off with my camera, and as before, it is poor quality, but I love listening to him call out so mournfully:) On WILD AND WONDERFUL.

Costume Lady said...

It is so wonderful to see our baby growing up and becoming so confident. To all our NEWBIES: it is worth getting a numb butt, isn't it?

Good morning all! Boy, that was some storm at the nest last night. Got home late, checked out the cam but did not get on the blog. We had a chance of storms last night and a chance of rain today, but so far it is 76 and bright sun shine.

Mits said...

Costume Lady said...

LOLLY, I have little columbine plants about 1 inch high....so excited to see the bloom next year! They are so special because you sent them to me:) Your purple ones will be ready in a few weeks. I will let them dry out, before sending them.

Lolly said...

Cute story for you!

Last fall during the program Jacob (4) first put his hands over his ears, then turned his back to the audience. Lots of laughter! Well, I had my talk with him last week. Drew pictures of happy faces and stick figures. Drew them all the same with ONE different. I pointed out how people look at the one that is different. That if he would perform like the others that no one would be looking at him, only his family. I saw that he understood. The night before the program Laurel started to repeat the talk and remind him. He said, "Actually, Mommy, I have already had this talk." Last night before the program, I reminded him and he said, "I remember!" And guess what....he did beautifully!!!!! Yea!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Yeah Jacob!

Lolly said...

Yea, Wanda! That is so exciting. I hope they do wonderfully for you. Enjoy!

wvgal_dana said...

Costume Lady said...

What a wonderful way to teach a child life's lessons! GRANDMAS ARE THE BESTEST!

wvgal_dana said...

Seen chick at BWO ( :

Well that is good Lolly. I don't recall you having an in ground pool. Someone found a 5 ft. alligator in their in ground pool.

Costume Lady said...

Speaking of Grandmas, where's Jo this morning. Too much Alexis, last evening or too many MEATBALLS?

Lolly said...

That was interesting. Was watching OK. An adult flew from the bar at the top, picked up a fish in the nest, and flew to a log in the lake. They zoomed in on the eagle sitting right on the log on the water.

Lolly said...

Yeah, Beaumont is down there where there might be alligators. No, no inground pool. But, we have two small ponds with a stream that runs between the two. Would hate to find an alligator there. Not much chance. We did have a blue heron that ate our fish one day.

wvgal_dana said...

Lolly tee hee which cam are you watching? Your above comment doesn't say?

Bob Quinn said...

Dana - I think you can stop voting now. I received confirmation I won the Viewer's Choice award (overwhelmingly) and the top three prizes are strictly by the panel of judges.

Only a little rain here and there. Cloudy as Heck and pretty cool today.

I'm glad they say the NBG eaglet has been returned, but so far I only see two ... more or less in the nest.
