Hello, everyone,
Gee, ya think Hidey might be hungry? Got pretty snippy with the parent, and now taking big bites! Don't forget to chew, Hidey! Looks like you're a happy camper now! Glad I came back to check-- finally got to see you today. Well, back to the books for me!

Hey, nice takeoff! Sounds like you didn't go too far away. Thought you'd come back, but guess not. Hope your parents are teaching you how to hunt. Bet they're trying! You're getting to be quite a handful when there's food around. You remind me of my two nephews when they were teenagers-- continually cleaning out the 'fridge! Maybe you ARE a boy!

Ms Bookworm said...

Well, I HAVE to get back to the books. Glad I got my 'Hidey fix', though. I'm all set for a while.
This really is bye for now! BBL.

Greetings to Everyone in Eagleland from Santorini Is. Greece! This place is really remains of a volcano. It is shaped like a backward letter C---one chunk missing. Water in the middle w/another tiny island which sprouted up.Most of the lodgings are built into the rim sides.Today was VERY windy & I watched the hooded crows hover in mid air--no flapping needed. Finally got a short video, but still in camera.
Logging in to Blog was in Greek!
Got to see Hidey just now---been a few.
Am on daughter's laptop--not real easy!
See lots of new members--Great & congrats to Bob. Blessings to all!

Gee willikers. I tried to post 5 pics on Blog & they never went thru! Poo! Must not have a good connection!
After Athens, we went to Mykonos, another Is.& everything is very hilly w/rocky steps to get to anywhere. This place is even worse as far as steep. There are about 5 sets of steps to get to our apt.But Bless there little hearts, daughter & SIL rented a car for three days!!!!I will survive.
My first pic was going to be of what we saw from the road.
Well I guess I'll have to go---this gizmo has NO mouse! It is 10:20 PM, & gang went out to get us a light dinner. Tomorrow is daughter's B'Day, so I've planned w/help of Registrar finding a great place on beach fror dinner. She's not eating carbs, so no cake, but I brought a candle I'll put in something! Later!!!!!

Hey all. I've also been watching the stork nest. It's pretty cool but I have to admit I don't know much about them.

Also, wvgal_dana, I do live about 90 miles or so from Lolly, who's in Beaumont, TX. Definitely close enough to connect for a cool birding outing.

Hi and Bye - T-Bird.
Good to see you, Buddy and everyone else on here !

I am getting the Finney Land nest to open, view is a little cock-eyed but I could see the bird well. It is about dark there now though.

Hope everyone has a good evening. Sure was nice to hear from NatureNut Loretta!

Hello....still catching up!!
Needed to reply to Mits comment about wanting to be a nurse! Helen...I wanted to be a meteorologist and was told my math and science skills weren't good enough---duh!!! So you could have been a nurse!!!! NOT that I recommend it to anybody in this day and age....nursing is NOT what it was back when I graduated!
Love and hugs to Sharon, Sissy and Thelma on this day of remembrance.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Do I hear the pitter-patter of little talons?

Mema Jo said...

Or is it the peck peck peck
of a little one's beak....?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Mema Jo, it could very well be that too! :)

ceil said...

Evening everyone. It still amazes me when I see a human hold an eaglet. How huge they really are. I see Hidey and think big but seeing Reese hold that NBG eaglet WOW.
Lynn Helen would have made a good nurse. She was an EKG tech.
Lisa I am so happy for Blackwater.

Got a minute or two to send this on:
Correction on some prior information I posted about Loch of the Lowe's in the Scotland and the absence of a 3rd chick: There have only been two chicks in that nest for a couple of weeks now. I guess I am getting my nests mixed up, and was sure I was watching parent Isla feeding a third chick the other morning. There are only two.
I guess I have CRS and CSS - Can't remember you know what, and can't SEE it either.
I am so sorry to put out a sadness post regarding this...

Take Care all, keep your flashlights and candles ready in case we get the storms that are predicted. Batten down the hatches!

C'mon out Hidey, your adoring fans are waiting !

GA-Girl, I really don't know anything about the storks...don't know those languages! Which one are you talking about?

Mema Jo said...

Did Hidey just sneeze?

I did get to see his in/out a while ago even though I was at table eating dinner.

T-Bird said...

I heard something Mema Jo. I looked over and didn't see anything so it very well could have been a sneeze, huh?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I sent the cat game out today but didn't realize it had already gone around yesterday. A non-eagle friend sent it to me today. Yes, I do have a couple of non-eagle friends! :)

T-Bird said...

I hope Hidey stays in the nest tonight. Looks like storms a comin' in.

Mema Jo said...

I really hope the storms bypass our nest - Hidey best dig in the talons when he perches up on the limb the way the wind is picking up!

T-Bird said...

Are you sure you really have friends Sharon? You stepped right into that one.

Mits said...

tee-hee, knew Thelma was not going to let that remark pass her by:)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Well, I have non-eagle acquaintances and best eagle buddies, I think, or at least that was the rumor! :)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Okay, the Glock is fixing to be busted out on the cat!

We (Bill & I) had a wonderful visit and lunch w/ our SC friends. She is Maridel, who you all helped so much with your prayers when she had a stroke last fall. Mits said...

from ABC channel 7.....

POOLESVILLE, Md. - Sources say a 36-year-old Maryland man survived after being bit by a poisonous snake outside his Maryland home.

Sam Pettengill has war wounds from a nasty encounter with a venomous snake.

"The first puncture wound was right here and then the second bite was one fang right there," he said. "This is like just in a few seconds it bites twice and I thought, "That hurt way too much for a tiny little garden snake.'"

What had bitten him was a Copperhead, one of two venomous snakes in Maryland. Sources say less than 10 people a year are injured by the reptiles.

Pettengill was attacked when he picked up the snake that had somehow made its way into his home at the Buddhist temple in Poolesville Sunday night.

"Had I thought that there was a chance that it was poisonous I would've been much more.. I would've been cautious," said Pettengill. "So it's my fault for underestimating."

The Montgomery County (web | news) man has been in the hospital for three days. Doctors say a snake bite is nothing to ignore. "Stay calm... get yourself to a hospital -- keep the extremity or the part below the heart if possible," said Dr. David Srour of Shady Grove Hospital.

Pettengill is a Buddhist who does not believe in taking the lives of living creatures so instead of killing the Copperhead, he captured it and then took it to a sacred prayer site.

"For Buddhists that's like par for the course -- that's not anything special," said Pettengill. "Where other people think, 'You prayed for that snake that bit you on the hand?'" "And I say, 'Yeah! Of course,'" he said.

evening everyone. can someone please tell me how you tell the difference between Lib and Belle? Been watching since Hidey hatched but only been on the blog for a few days. Thanks

hedgie said...

Having a hard time keeping eyes open! Heading for sofa for Jeopardy...hope I don't fall asleep! BBL.

hedgie said...

Storm getting close, I think!

Mema Jo said...

Hi Naturegirl - You hopefully will attend the Oct 17th open house this year - looking forward to meeting you!
How far is it from Parkersburg WV?

Most of the time we have an educated guess as to if it is Belle or Liberty. The cam can distort their actual size depending where they are in the nest.
Liberty the male is smaller in length then Belle the female. When they are incubating the eggs in the nest it is easy to see which one it is. I try to cover myself by saying 'adult' or 'parent'...

Costume Lady said...

Storm is just outside of Winchester, headed this way. Batten down the hatches. I hope Hidey stays in the nest during the storm. Safer there.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Naturegirl, you live in Parkersburg? I go to Ripley at least twice a year at Cedar Lakes!

Mema Jo said...

I wonder where Hidey perched last night when the storm hit. That lightening made it look like daylight outside. The sky hasn't darkened yet here in the valley.

paula eagleholic said...

Liberty is smaller than Belle...look at the pic on the front page of the blog. Lib is on the right, Belle is on the left. Belle takes up much more of the nest when she is in it. Also, Lib shows more tail feathers than Belle. Also, he has a sleeker look about his head. And he is lighter in color than her.

It's easiest to see the differences when they are both in the nest. Sometimes it's really hard to tell them apart. Also, we have learned what their behaviors are like.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

That was what I meant, that somebody would always snag the food and mantle it, not necessarily the oldest one. Pecking Pearl and BigBoy seemed to be able to do that the quickest most of the time. :)

naturegirl said...

Thanks Mema Jo. I am going to do my best to be at the opening. It's about 5 hrs or so from here but, I travel to Va. to visit the grandkids and it takes about 6 so it won't be a bad trip. I'm looking forward to it. BTW my name is Kitty

Costume Lady said...

Belle also has more feathers around her neck that sort of forms a V. Check her out the next time we know for sure it is she. Look at how large she is and the way her feathers lay around her neck as opposed to Libs.

paula eagleholic said...

Heading to Wally world...catch ya'll later.

Bye Hidey! (he's still in the nest, I'm just saying bye for now!)

Costume Lady said...

Seems like Jill was from Parkersburg...Norma would know.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

More food brought in?

Mema Jo said...

I think they are trying to keep Hidey in the nest knowing a storm is coming.

Adult was just there!

deb said...

We have one little protective Eaglet. That is my fish!

paula eagleholic said...

Hadn't quite left yet! Did Lib bring another fish? Hidey is looking at it strange!

Costume Lady said...

Lib decided he can't stand that noisy kid. "I'M Outta here"!

paula eagleholic said...

Here Kid, have another fish and shut up!

Later!

floralgirl said...

Unknown said...

I've been watching Hidey for about a month and it is really been a pleasure to watch him grow. He is my first eaglet. Do all little ones treat their parents like that at dinner time?

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I think they brought Hidey enough food to anchor her down during the storm.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Hello Joyce and welcome. Yes they do treat their parents like that. Survival of the fittest!

Unknown said...

My word, it's like having teenagers!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Joyce, it sure is! Where do you live?

Unknown said...

I'm in Pennsylvania. Hoping to get down to WVA in the fall to see the nest.

Costume Lady said...

Hi Joyce. No, I don't think they would normally do that, but Hidey doesn't have siblings to show agression with (which is a normal process in nature) so he only has Mom or Dad to do that to. He is normal (I think LOL).

momsmiley said...

Hey All....I haven't been able to post comments like I want to...but I keep in touch by viewing all your posts....did anyone see Hidey around 1:15 or so today....then again around 6:00/6:30??? WOW....she is so funny....can anyone tell me is it typical for an eaglet to hover over their food and be sooooo vocal OR is this just typical of Miss (or) Mr. Hidey???? Both times...the adult sits and Hidey cries or carrys on with her wings half spread and puts her head down....then finally she eats and then Belle eats...is this behavior because Liberty isn't bringing in as much food???? Hey...now that I think of it...I guess I carry on like this when I get food too....LOL LOL. Any responses??? How 'bout it Eagle Eyed Sharon or anyone??? I think Ms. Bookworm knows what I'm talking about...cause she made a comment about Hidey's behavior too!! Thanks everyone....and it IS A BEAUTIFUL site to see Hidey take off....God bless all you wonderful bloggers!!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

That would be awesome Joyce. We have such a great time! I have yet to go to Shepherdstown and not see Lib or Belle or both.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I think it is normal behavior but maybe a little extended as there is no competition.

Costume Lady said...

Joyce, we would be so happy to join us at Open House on October 17...is that when you were planing you visit?

momsmiley said...

Costume Lady....thanks...you answered my question perfectly....also...great pic of you Eagle Eyed Sharon!!! Who's the little one with you???

Mema Jo said...

I was looking over the 13 pages of videos that Glo has on You Tube - BUT I can't find the old one of "Spunky and the storm".
Just search You Tube with: eliasgrammy

I will find time to look at Paula's by searching "paulaeagletmomster"

Will post a link if I find it. This was back a few years.

Welcome Joyce!
