I sure am getting a late start - glad I heard you holler! lol Checking out cams and emails.. Now I need to go back to other thread & see what has been happening!
Mariah hang a RED RIBBON on the east side of house and just let it blow with the wind. Up about as tall as you can reach. Don't need stepladder. Just let it hang for days. Let me know if you start seeing hummers.
Sharon in reading back comments. Sorry I get a giggle when I get to the end and you say "I don't like them! :)" I know you love them...I just can't figure if this has happened twice in 20 yrs. Why didn't you go to the beach..was it just because of the dogs?
Dana, the dogs wasn't the only reason. I didn't have any PTO days because I used up all I had when I was sick. I could work from there but the internet connection is not reliable and cuts in and out a lot. So, there were a few other reasons and it is okay. I just wish I was there. I do not like them! :) Everybody but Donna and Thelma went on vacation in 1989 and they were the only ones here when Andrew was born.
THANKS DANA, never thought about that. I have an umbrella on the west side. I actually thought about looking for a red one. But for now, I will fly the red ribbons. I'll let you know what happens
I've been watching the 3 eaglets at Duke Farms on the page where they also have their blog. Adult had been in feeding the 2 youngest - They call the smallest one "TINY" The oldest is about ready to take that first flight!
Hidey was funny trying to walk with that fish clutched in his / her claw.
Judie, I'm sure Hidey would be proud of the A+.
I agree with your assessment regarding the reason for the confusion over the number killed in the train accident. Different hospitals, different government agencies, overworked people--let us hope that they do not move the number higher. Some people were badly hurt, so it could happen.
I had thoughts of riding the Metro to the zoo this week. May need to change my plans.
My birdfeeder is almost to the ground, and nothing is visiting it now. I have to move it.
Hi Judie - I haven't been on with you yet! We bond so quickly you won't even know it happened! WELCOME!
I am off to do some things around here - I think the entire family has accepted Thurs dinner invite to hang out with the Germany Gang! I need to get prepared!
Good Tues. afternoon, momsters and dadsters! Hey, RED...so glad you are doing better! Please hang out with us again, ok? HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CAROL!!! Hope you have a fabulous day and year. So Hidey caught his own lunch, huh? Congrats, Big Boy. Well.....all I can say is...there will never be another TINY like ours! It's a new day (there's a song that says that, isn't there?)....but so far I am all by myself (another song!). Thanks for support qand encouragement! And I am doing a few little chores. Took a quick trip out to hotel to pay a portion of the bill as part of Mom's birthday present.
Dana, I had wonderful success attracting butterflies with a butterfly bush until the housewasher people killed my bush. I planted a new bush away from the house and am waiting to see what happens. I don't know about thistle.
Oooohhhhh....was just out watering flowers...have a tree in center of driveway that used to be a double, but had to take off one trunk years ago because of hanging over the driveway and preventing trucks form getting through...bottom of it continued to grow around the cut surface and Bill had filled it wwith concrete, whcih has sunk as growth continues....filled it with large conch shells a few years ago...just found big black snake wrapped up in and through the shells, sunning as if he owned the place! Will post pic!!!
MEGAN, can you suggest something for me. I had to move a varigated weigela a few years ago. It had gotten big and beautiful blooms. since I moved it this is first year that it has grown at all but it isnt blooming. also, my lilieS are not multipling and blooming as they should. This is the first year in 5 years that my peonie isnt blooming. These are all in the same area and of course in the GA red clay. but the clay has been conditioned. Any help from all is appreciated.
While I was downloading cm, snake has disappeared! Don't know if it went on down under shells or not, but don't see it anywhere around...and not one shell disturbed. Putting pics on blog. Me and Megan with our nature will keep you spooked!!!
I slept nearly all day yesterday, was up all night just about, started late this morning, watched the President's news conference, so ............. Guess what.
Lynn, this must be black snake weather...I went into our garden earlier and there in the middle of the squash patch was a 10ft long black snake...maybe 6ft, LOL. I called Capt. Betterbutt and he disposed of it for me. If he hadn't, I would not feel comfortable picking beans anymore!
Glad that Capt. Betterbutt dispatched the monster, Wanda. The one I show from under the garage looks smaller in pic, but he was definitely a six-footer! Hard to tell if both are one-and-the-same or not. As long as it's not a rattler or copper, I can cope!
Big snake, Lynn. My son encountered a blacksnake in our backyard awhile back. He suggested we keep the garage door closed, so it doesn't get in. I have not seen it again, but have kept door closed.
Thanks, Mariah. Toads and frogs have been my hobby since I was 12....had a toad named Freddy who lived for 9 yrs. in a terrarium in my room (along w/ a huge salamander named Sally). My dad always told boyfriends that the toad came with me (package deal!). Have had many since...most recent duo was Puffenstuff and I forget other name. Lost them about 5 yrs. ago. No, Deb, they have a pattern--the bigger they are, the more it shows.
Shirley, they can crawl under/into a 1/4" space...considering the fact that the gasket on the bottom of the garage door is flexible, I have started checking inside since the one crawled out from under!
Mariah, I haven't had any better luck than you--only one blossom on the peonies and it never even opened; one bloom on the lilac, one on the rhododendron. Azalea died. Holly bush looks sick. Pussy willow tree died. BAD YEAR!
I guess I stand corrected about the spots. Went out and looked at the one I encountered and sure enough, it was half black and the other half had spots.
Local network news has death toll from the train crash back to 9. Husband of a former police student works for WMATA and he is very upset about what happened. Another former student, detective type, also very upset.
About the thistle: What I tackled this morning is very invasive with extremely deep roots. Killing the azaleas. I'd rather try a butterfly bush. Maybe butterflies prefer some other type of thistle. Found a small but long black snake with orange markings and think it is a water snake (no wonder with nearly a month of rain). It slithered off so I think I scared it.
Ms. Bookworm: How about the exam(s)? All go okay today? Don't be jealous but Hidey got an A+ for passing fishing school. Bet you did just as well!
Lynn, I haven't seen any blacksnakes in my garage yet. I am sure you are right about what they can do though.
When he was in middle school, my older son caught a snake that he planned to take to school the next day. We put it in a bucket and fastened screen over it (with duct tape, I think) and placed it an a shower stall with the shower door closed and then closed it in the bathroom. I went to work that morning and later learned that the snake had escaped.
My son called a neighbor to help him find it, which they did--in my closet. Neighbor took son to school, but by then he was late. He walked into the office with the snake in the bucket, and the ladies in the school office quickly wrote him a pass to class. No questions asked--after they learned what was in the bucket.
I requested that the teacher release the snake in a safe spot outdoors when she had finished with it, which she happily did.
UH OH HEDGIE, now I dont feel so bad. I may be losing on azalea this year that I just put out. It was doing really great until I planted it.. I try to keep everything soaked. But, since the rainy May we had been dry and hot. My youngest son was into repetiles.. tried to drive me crazy.. didnt work.. I DONT THINK !!
I have to make a quick grocery store trip. My two daughters, my son-in-law, and my grandson will be here for dinner tonight. Need to pick up some stuff.
I don't know yet if my grandson will be out catching snakes--brothers and my sons certainly did, but grandson really loved the video one of you ladies posted of the snake at the nest at the most recent visit.
Hey all! Wow, must be a banner year for snakes! That's a black rat snake, like the one that ate my bluebirds, all black top and bottom snakes are black racers. I'm 2 for 2 with copperheads at the campground, and this past sunday a milksnake baby was washed into the stairwell outside!
Yesterday I had all kinds of trouble with my messages getting lost in space and sometimes finally showing up maybe even an hour later. What is the problem?

Eagle buds, I have tried to answer your alls comments and such but don't get offended if it appears I am ignoring you. My messages are getting lost in space. I suppose if this keeps up I will have to figure out what to do about it. ???
Afternoon everyone. Judi I am getting Norfolk but OK is down. They are working on it. Mits took a sheet cake on Sunday and we ate a good bit of it. Left some for Annie and Kev. Was going to leave it all but Annie said no. She went to eat it Monday and Kev had ate it. So she ate his Rhebs.
My Suzi just blew through earlier. Will be back later with grandson--she's "Aunt Suzi" to him. Others will come later. We're having fried chicken, corn on the cob and salad.
It seems like someone spends a lot of time at OK camera, considering the scanning and zooming that camera does, but I have trouble picking it up frequently as well.
Lynn you are really having flower problems. Ask the expert Megan. I was about to ask her what was wrong with my (I call them snowball plants) hydrenga and they are blooming like crazy. I have a small garden. No green thumb here. Got grapes but roses not doing well. Day Lily's about to bloom. BBL
I didn't see anything after she landed. I think she just came down out of the tree, I heard her land before I looked. Then the cam timed out and I had to reload it.
I can only see the flicker's from the side. I can see the opened beak sticking out the side of the tree. Babies!! We worked hard on this one. Thank God the starlings went away.
I know it was mentioned but just in case you missed it. Great picture by Bob on the BWO site. Hi Red. Hope you are there. It was good to hear from you. Glad you are doing better.
Well for Ed next step: we will get a call in a day or two for a date for them to do a needle biopsy of the nodule in his lung. It should be same day in hospital and out.
Yesterday I found out at eye appointment. I have to have cataract surgery on both eyes. June 29th scheduled for right. August 26 scheduled for the left. They said I have a mole behind the eye they have to keep an eye on also.
Well what can I say...other than please keep the PRAYERS COMING.
Thank you Hedgie and Ceil. Started to think my technology challenged abilities were at work. After destroying the thistle this morning am going to take some aspirin and get some sleep. Hope all is well with everyone.
We had to pick up our camera from Helen's daughter in law today at her work place. She looked up and said there goes an osprey. She works near the harbor. It was probably headed for Fort McHenry.
That is right. Anyone who wants me to continue liking them this week had better stay away from the beach/ocean because I will not like you after that. Now, next week, you can have at it. :)
Jo under the song you gave is another fly like an eagle song with a video of eagles and other wild life. Lynn don't watch it has a big spider but the eagles are great. Dana that is what I would think.
If you get a chance to go parasailing...take it! It's really fun. You are sitting in a seat/swing...you feel like you are flying! I highly recommend it!
Correction on date of 1st eye surgery is not June 29th but July 29th 2nd one is right Aug. 26th. I think I am tired. It's been quite a lot of appointments with Ed. Sorry everyone I messed up on my dates.
Please forgive me...I mean it's not like I went to the beach

Death toll for Metro accident back up to nine. Do not know the reason for the confusion.
Shirley I bet there is a lot of confusiion down there. Problem a real mess going through all that metal.
Hi everyone,
Okay, I am giving my very first A+ ever to Hidey for graduating from fishing school. I am so sorry I missed that milestone.
Confusion about train death toll probably due to so many agencies and hospitals involved.
I'm going to try the red ribbon trick. We have hummers that visit the salvia and geraniums but might be able to entice more.
I can't get OK, NBG cams since Sunday.
Now to rest after destroying an entire area of thistle weed -- what a dreadful task.
Stronghunter: so happy to know I wasn't the only voyeur in eagleland. Was afraid I would be an intruder as everyone seemed so close-knit.
Hope all are having a very nice day!
Cheers,
Judie

Hi Judie nice seeing you on again.
Didn't Megan say Thistle attracts butterflies? I could be wrong.
Well my eagle friends. Time to start car to cool down.
Don't know when I'll get back on.
So until I do....prayers for all that need them.
Later
Found rebuilt swallows nest on the ground this am---luckily, no little one so hoping that they had a successful fledge this time!
Wishes and prayers with you and Ed, Dana.
Dana, I had wonderful success attracting butterflies with a butterfly bush until the housewasher people killed my bush. I planted a new bush away from the house and am waiting to see what happens. I don't know about thistle.
We knew the butterfly bush would work when we saw butterflies on it while it was at the store--outdoors, of course.

Okay, pics are posted to Lynns' Lair. Also put on the one from under the garage two weeks ago.
Thanks for feeding the frogs, Deb!

OMG!!!!!! WHAT A SNAKE.. I WOULD BE HALF WAY TO GA IF I SAW THAT.. JEEZ.. AND NOT KNOW WHERE IT IS???
( by the way. love the frog)
Lynn, that is a big snake, the striping is very pretty. I always assumed they were solid black.
Glad that Capt. Betterbutt dispatched the monster, Wanda. The one I show from under the garage looks smaller in pic, but he was definitely a six-footer! Hard to tell if both are one-and-the-same or not. As long as it's not a rattler or copper, I can cope!

Thanks, Mariah. Toads and frogs have been my hobby since I was 12....had a toad named Freddy who lived for 9 yrs. in a terrarium in my room (along w/ a huge salamander named Sally). Hello all my fine eagle buds.
How is Hidey today? I didn't even get a peep at her yesterday.
Hi Thelma!
Is that your dog?
Well, hello T-bird. How are you?
I saw her briefly this morning in her Nestaurant, but that's it for me today. She's slowly but surely moving on.
I'm good how are you eagle eye?
I know Lynn, she sure is. Sad for us.
T-bird, our Hidey brought in her own fish today. It was great! Fishing school has paid off for her.
Hey Sharon!
I want to see her bring in her own fish. How kwl!
Yesterday I had all kinds of trouble with my messages getting lost in space and sometimes finally showing up maybe even an hour later. What is the problem?

I don't know Thelma, but the other night the blog was down altogether.

HA HA HA Thelma you're repeating yourself.. I blame all computer problems on the weather.. Too hot, Too cold, Too wet, Too dry
I just posted and got a really wierd error message from the blogger cop! Of course, it ate my comment! Wasn't important anyway!
See ya Mariah....you know, it's been sunny here for 2 days in a row and no rain....I hardly know how to act!

back from beach, not much sun this afternoon...doing salmon, salad and veggies tonight....
probably will go on a carbo load after our friend leaves:)
Hi Lynne-yes that is my basset hound, Buddy.
Never knew that Ed McMahon was a Catholic U alum! Interesting.
Eagle buds, I have tried to answer your alls comments and such but don't get offended if it appears I am ignoring you. My messages are getting lost in space. I suppose if this keeps up I will have to figure out what to do about it. ???
Hi everyone,
I still can't get a picture at either NBG or OK. Does anyone know why?
No sign of Hidey since early morning. Maybe attending fishing graduate school?
Cheers,
Judie
Can I come for dinner, Mits?
I loved Shirleys' "nestaurant" description of the nest this am!!!
Well gang I have an appointment-see ya later.
Somebody else gets credit for the inventing the "nestaurant" term. I just commented on it. Wish I had thought of it.
Judie, I can't get them either....but that's not unusual! I think I don't get them more often than I do!!
Give Lynne2 credit for "nestaurant."
Thelma, maybe the blog wants a vacation and is acting up because it wants to be at the beach with Sissy!!!
Must go set the table, etc.
BBL
We are having leftovers. Mmmm fried chicken, salmon Sounds like a buffet to me.
Good Afternoon everyone. Just zipped through the posts to try to make sure all is well with you folks.
Sounds like it, for the most past.
Dana hope the results of recent tests for Ed have positive features.
Good to hear from Red - glad we called him out of his MIA status.... Hello Red ! ☺

I just saw a shadow cross the nest and then heard sounds by the microphone.
HIDEY!!!
Oh Deb - home for lunch ! Right ?
Perfect Hidey Timing for YOU - not so perfect for me....Enjoy !
Meant to type earlier: For the Most PART - that is, that everyone seems to be hanging in there.
Out the door. Oh yes, saw the ISS overnight, it was as brilliant as Venus!

Tuesday will be my day off for awhile, Margy.
Did Hidey bring in food, was it delivered, or is Hidey enjoying nestovers?
Awww, there is our lovely Hidey!
I didn't see anything after she landed. I think she just came down out of the tree, I heard her land before I looked. Then the cam timed out and I had to reload it.
My, my, that was loud.
Hidey is talking to us.
I can only see the flicker's from the side. I can see the opened beak sticking out the side of the tree. Babies!! We worked hard on this one. Thank God the starlings went away.
Maybe it is like a duplex or time share home.
All 3 eaglets at Norfolk. Hard to pick them up. They are spread out onto different limbs.
I know it was mentioned but just in case you missed it. Great picture by Bob on the BWO site.
Hi Red. Hope you are there. It was good to hear from you. Glad you are doing better.
Hello Ceil. My internet went out for a minute. Glad it didn't last long as I am still working.
Thanks, Ceil, for calling attention to Bobs' new pic---lovely shot!!

Hi everyone,
Thank you Hedgie and Ceil. Started to think my technology challenged abilities were at work. After destroying the thistle this morning am going to take some aspirin and get some sleep. Hope all is well with everyone.
Good night,
Judie
Good night Judie...by the way I think it was Milk Weed Megan had said and not thistle.
Was hoping to catch Hidey in while n a break from mowing...no such luck, not even a peep...later...
It is flicker feeding time. Saw at least 2 heads peeking out the hole.
Well, I can't get our cam up now, just a blank screen where the nest should be.
And it finally came up.
I know what you mean Paula I too was hoping to see Hidey.
Sharon have you heard from the beach bums?
I hear Hidey
Our Hidey is in the tree.
You all are right. Look at BWO and Bob's picture is great. Beautiful colors.
Hidey is being noisy up in the tree!
Dana, I have talked to the old scutters a few times. They are having a great time. I don't like them.
well going to say good night and prayers for all, dinner was excellent, we are going to try and go para-sailing tomorrow.....if weather is ok:)
Sorry Sharon but you have me giggling again with your comment. I thank you truly need those giggles. ( :
Mits have fun para-sailing tomorrow. Up Up and Away ....what goes up must come down.
There is Hidey
Beautiful fly-in, not perfect but beautiful.
We had to pick up our camera from Helen's daughter in law today at her work place. She looked up and said there goes an osprey. She works near the harbor. It was probably headed for Fort McHenry.
Oh, I think para-sailing would make me have a heart attack!
Hey sister dear you just got over broken ribs. Trying for a broken neck?
That is right Ceil, you tell her! :)
Go for it Mits! Hope you don't get dunked in the bay!
Good to see our Hidey! Don't know what is being eaten.
Mits wants to Fly Like An Eagle!
Sharon we saw them out over the ocean and she said she wanted to do it.
FLY LIKE AN EAGLE - Turn up the volume
I wish I could be there just to witness. I just wish I could be on a beach. I don't like anybody who is at the ocean this week! ☺
Jo it is out over the ocean. Not sure about the eagle bit more like a duck. They don't land gracefully.
Hey Mits is Jay doing it?
They also go out over the bay - No ocean for me - too deep!
I almost went to the beach today BUT I didn't want anyone NOT to like me! lol
Thinking of something....wouldn't it still hurt your ribs Mits?
Off Hidey flew...
Good Evening All...
Wow, I feel blessed, I get to see Hidey twice in one day!
And off she goes... on another adventure..
Evening Tammy we are talking about going para-sailing. Did you want to go?
That is right. Anyone who wants me to continue liking them this week had better stay away from the beach/ocean because I will not like you after that. Now, next week, you can have at it. :)
Darn, I missed Hidey. I think parasailing sounds like fun, but I don't think you can do it any where around here.
PARENTS
Liberty and Belle are in the nest. What a treat!
Liberty and Belle just arrived
And now Ms. Drama Queen is there.
Now a full house
Hidey!
Jo under the song you gave is another fly like an eagle song with a video of eagles and other wild life. Lynn don't watch it has a big spider but the eagles are great.
Dana that is what I would think.
Now Hidey is alone and screeching. I am trying to see if she has a fish.
Aww I missed Lib and Belle. I was going to call Paula to come in from mowing.
Hidey was eating about 30 mins ago
Looks like there is more to eat....
I don't know why Hidey is so vocal!
Dana...
I'd love to go! Can I run the boat though?
I went once. By where I lived on Lake Erie. It was great.
It was good to see the whole family in the nest. Hidey sure has a lot to say when Mom and Dad are around.
We need a translator!
WHOA! Adult landed
That's how Mits will land in the water!
Feet first!
Well, I had to turn down the sound because I couldn't hear the doc's voice over Hidey's.
So that is what Hidey was squealing about - invited the parent down for late evening snack!
Oh My adult and Hidey in the nest!!
Yuck.
Awww, Hidey is getting fed.
And Hidey is getting Fed!
Such a spoiled eaglet.
Love it Hidey still being fed.
Adult eating, Hidey throwing a fit!!
Just like the information for eagles said, "Parents will continue to feed their young after they fledge".
We' re picking this up in stereo...2 computers in the room. Good grief!
My cam froze and I am not getting it back.
But to no avail!
Adult still munching!
I got it back in time to see parent fly off. Whoever is by the cam must have food, too.
Never mind, I see hidey now.
This is so great....
Adult up in tree, Hidey throwing another fit!
Finally calmed down.
Nice take off.
Good night all. Pleasant dreams.
Well all you fine folk...
I have to call it a night. I have three dogs sitting here looking at me with their legs crossed.
Time for our evening stroll.
Watching a TV show
BBILW
Night Ceil slept well...
Tammy you must get those dogs out. Crossed legs is not good.
That is suppose to be "sleep"
That was the best performance by Hidey, ever! He wins the crown:) What a wonderful parent to put up with all that fussing. Think it was Lib.
If you get a chance to go parasailing...take it! It's really fun. You are sitting in a seat/swing...you feel like you are flying! I highly recommend it!
Paula is there a parachute attached in case the line breaks?
Correction on date of 1st eye surgery is not June 29th but July 29th 2nd one is right Aug. 26th. I think I am tired. It's been quite a lot of appointments with Ed. Sorry everyone I messed up on my dates.
Please forgive me...I mean it's not like I went to the beach
Going to get ready to check tv..maybe something on.
Night everyone in Eagleland. Pleasant dreams and wonderful sleep; peaceful and restful.
Prayers for those who have ask and for those that need them.
That is exactly right Dana. I do forgive you but only because you are not at the beach! :)
No, Dana, you don't wear a parachute. It's a very thick line.
I am off to read, night everyone.
Just checking in so Sharon knows I am NOT at the beach!
Thank you Megan. We need the beach in our lives, don't ya think???
My daughter's at the beach...I hope Sharon doesn't hold that against me;)
No Wanda, won't hold that against you, just her! :)
Yes, we do, I love the ocean, haven't been to the beach for years:( one of these days I'll get there again...
Nite all........
