Hi, everyone!

This is my first chance to get on the blog today-- my ISP had some kind of crazy software conflict issues, and finally had to remove ALL Earthlink software-- at THEIR recommendation! :o[ Now I must use Internet Explorer, then go to Earthlink home page, then to my start page, etc. They say they will let me know when they have a compatible update to download. I know Jim was having troubles with his computer, but boy, this beats all! Oh, well, at least I finally made it here!

GUESS WHAT?! I got 100% on the test I got back tonight!!! Thank God!! Keep praying, everyone, because it's working!!! The test tomorrow is going to be a real stinker, so Lord, please help!!!
(That's the one on 11 chapters.)

I'm pretty tired tonight, so will start studying again in the morning.

Sorry to be so late getting here, but after all the software trouble, I'm just glad to be here at all. Will have to try to catch up on the blog a little. By the way, I think I see Spidey and his web blowing in the breeze. Sounds like Hidey might be up by (or on) the camera-- hope he has a good night.

Gonna get going, and read some of what I missed today. Prayers for all, for healing, renewal of strength, protection, and thanksgiving. G'nite, all! :o]

I hear a red-bellied woodpecker in the nest and no eaglet squealing.
Sounds like you all had a blast watching the whole family in the nest last night!

Well, just hopping on to say Hope It's a Great Day.

Have fun para-sailing, Mits !

Good Morning Ya'll. Another hot day in GA. in the 90's here. No rain in site

LOVE THE COOL MOUNTAINS. wouldnt mind trying para-sailing.Good for you Mits

Good morning, everyone.

Dana I think milkweed sounds right as I cannot imagine any creature being attracted to thistle. Prayer for Ed.

Mema Jo and Deb thanks for the welcome. Mema Jo you are exactly right as I feel more comfortable each day.

Still can't get OK or NBG but all three eaglets are at the Duke nest.

MS BOOKWORM: CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST OF LUCK TODAY. All your hard work is paying off. I see an A+ for you.

Think I have this right: Sharon I am NOT at the beach!

Off to find some coffee, look through the newspaper, and maybe stain a coat tree today (maybe).

Cheers,
Judie

Good morning Andrea, Shirley, Mariah, Judie and whoever else may be watching! Looks like I missed plenty of action at Hidey's Nestaurant last night.

Sharon, I am also not at the beach. Haven't been to the beach in 2 years. I don't like them either. hahahaha!

Andrea, congrats on your test and good luck today too!

Dana, prayers are still coming, don't worry!

MITS.....wonder if when you come in for your parasail landing today that you not only will come in feet first but maybe work it out to where you can grab a fish with your feet as well......

GA-GIRL said...

WOW. WHERE IS EVERYONE??

magpie said...

Good Question, Mariah.
Now a few Eagle Squeals and I think the gang will come running.
Glad you got some rain.

Andrea, congratulations on Acing your test! And Yay for everyone for their many accomplishments great and small yesterday.

Hello again,

Regarding the confusion about the number of deaths from the train crash: article in Wash. Post today by Nikita Stewart says that it was Mayor Fenty's decision to only report the number of deceased removed from the wreakage and to not include the two known deceased but not yet removed. Sure sad to watch the coverage of victims' families/friends and the survivors.

Happy day to everyone,
Judie

Good morning everyone who might be out there--maybe Judie, Jim, Mits, and anyone else. I'm checking in briefly. Getting ready to go to Kings Dominion with daughter and grandson. Will not ride the really scary rides, but don't think they will either.

Good morning, Deb. I would watch Mits parasail, and I hope she enjoys it.

I'm not at the beach, either.

grannyblt said...

Morning all.

Hidey isn't home again for me. I seem to always miss her.

Sharon, I am not at the beach, nor going to the beach.

I have to take Mom to the nearest military location to get her new ID card. It is in Ohio, about an hour or so away. I hope she doesn't change her mind (as she does very fequently)as the weather is to be very good today. Fortunately this will be a permanent card so we won't have to deal with this when she is 92!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

stronghunter said...

Butterflies are attracted to butterfly bushes big time, but I understand that butterfly bushes can get to be 10 feet tall, so you have to be careful about where you plant it.

hedgie said...

Morning all. Beautiful day here, but supposed to get HOT!
Grannyblt--our first Lynne!--how old is your mom now? In case you've missed all my chatter, my mom is visiting from Missouri and just turned 90 last Tues. We had a great party!

floralgirl said...

Butterflies like buddleias(butterfly bush) and asclepias(butterfly weed)and any plant in the milkweed family. Asclepias is the food source for monarch butterflies. Do not plant thistle for butterflies, it is a noxious weed and will throw seeds everywhere. ALso, butterflies are attracted to any flower which has a surface they can land on, cosmos, zinnia, marigolds, etc...

hedgie said...

oops...wrong day...her birthday and the party were THURS! The 18th! My brain is still asleep.

hedgie said...

If I remember correctly, thistles are poison to cows and/or horses, right, Megan? Farmers' bane for sure.

deb said...

Canada thistle is declared a "noxious weed" throughout the U.S. and has long been recognized as a major agricultural pest, costing tens of millions of dollars in direct crop losses annually and additional millions costs for control. Only recently have the harmful impacts of Canada thistle to native species and natural ecosystems received notable attention.

hedgie said...

Time to get busy fixing brunch. See you friends later. Have a great day!

GA-GIRL said...

What plants attract butterflies to lay eggs? Isnt milk weed or bee balm good for that? I planted some butterflie weeds that attract butterflies, this year.. i will see how it does.

I'm not at the beach either nor do I wanna be.. my office doesnt even have a window....

deb said...

OK wide view is back up. Did you know you can watch the Decorah eagles on the Xcel Energy Eagle cam?

GA-GIRL said...

hmmm sounds like this thistle is much like the great Kudzu

Costume Lady said...

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE...
I think we are all leary of going to the beach now!;)
JUDIE..the milkweed plant is the one that the Monarch Butterfly lays her eggs on and the caterpillar feeds on it and forms it's chrysillis and hatches there.
Suz and I gathered some milkweed seeds from the grounds of NCTC last fall during open house so that we could start a butterfly garden for the Monarchs. It was a long, slow process (the seeds have to be stratified in the fridge for 6 weeks), but they finally sprouted and are ready to be planted outside. I posted a photo of what the seedlings look like on my blog (Wild and Wonderful, I think). Margy has a photo of the fully grown milkweed on her blog.
Interesting project, the butterflies.

Costume Lady said...

THISTLES ARE A NO-NO!

Mema Jo said...

Good Wednesday Morning! Just read comments and checked out some cams.I miss seeing Hidey but did see BWE in the nest and the Duke Farms threesome!

I am going to chuckle every time I picture the para-sailing event! To fly like the eagle and catch the fish as you come in for the landing would be a WILD caricature pic! I really hope you get to take the ride - they say it is awesome!

Costume Lady said...

Megan knows what plants do well at attracting butterflies. Only some of the plants are suitable for egg-laying, though. Parsley, dill, etc.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I am so grateful for my not-going-to-the-beach buddies this week! :)

Mits, I might have to exclude you as this is also one of your homes!

There was some kind of natural ocean cleansing itself last night and the beach is a mess this morning. Teeheehee!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

deb said...

OK eaglet above the nest.

deb said...

OK eaglet just left.

Mema Jo said...

Just brought up Decorah nest - Usually all 3 are right there - Only see 1 right now. They look large so close up.

floralgirl said...

I don't know it to be poisonous to cattle, not sure. Canada thistle was introduced to the United States, probably by accident, and has been declared a noxious weed in many states. There are some native species of thistle, but most you see are the Canada thistle.
Grow asclepias or milkweed to attract monarch caterpillars
Grow fennel for anise and black swallowtail
and parsley to attract black and anise swallowtail caterpillars
Spicebush to attract spicebush swallowtail
Snapdragons for buckeyes
and on and on... some butterflies have trees as a host, some plants...Just look at a butterfly website and they list the host plants for different butterflies, that is the plant which should bring you eggs and caterpillars.

deb said...

eaglet back.

Morning all. Sorry Sharon I wish I were at the beach. I am at work and my office is on the second floor and it has a beautiful view of the harbor. Our sister Mary Margaret lives right there and in the courtyard is a fountain and a mother and 7 babies are in it during the day. I better get back to work.

GA-GIRL said...

Thanks Megan for all the butterfly info

Costume Lady said...

SORRY, couldn't find where I posted milkweed, so I re-posted on Wild and Wonderful.

floralgirl said...

No problem:) there's a good book ,The Butterfly Book- by Donald and Lilian Stokes, an inexpensive softcover, I've had it forever, but it's probably still available. It has a lot of good info. Back to work, gonna put some sand in my shoes and pretend I'm at the beach....

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

There is a mimosa tree in what used to be my grandparent's yard that my grandfather planted years ago. It has lots of butterflies and hummingbirds.

Costume Lady said...

Speaking of the beach...My daughter and her family are at Nags Head this week and had a mishap two nights ago. Photo posted on JUST FOR FUN. It was a $500.00 TOW:(

deb said...

I agree with Jo, no fun having to tow a vehicle, but $500 is a big ouch!

OK eaglet above the nest again. No one home in Decorah.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Well, Wanda, I am glad they are okay and they got the vehicle out but that is what they get for going to the beach! :)

Good morning, everyone! I haven't gotten on the blog for a real long time - so I was especially touched by the Birthday Wishes I received yesterday. They truly made my day! Thank you to all of you who thought of me. I have been really busy with work and just life, in general. One of my brother-in-laws passed away in April - so I have spent time with my sister (who lives near Bel Air, Maryland) during his hospitalization and since his death. I also have been visiting my Mom at least one weekend per month. She is 88 and still lives in her house in Prince Georges County, Maryland. In fact, I am going down to see her this coming weekend. I still occasionally see bald eagles and ospreys along the river on my way to and from work - but not as frequently as I used to. I don't know if they aren't there anymore or if I don't notice them because I am preoccupied thinking about other things. I did see an bald eagle flying over the river about 2 weeks ago. 4 or 5 smaller birds (blackbirds??) were following the eagle and "dive-bombing" at the eagle. It was cool to watch!

deb said...

Carol, I am sorry to hear about your BIL. It is nice that you have been able to help out your sister.

Isn't it fun to see an Eagle fly? I haven't seen one in quite awhile now. I need an Eagle fix!

Hi everyone! Have not been here for a while because every time I checked there was no one in the nest or near it that I could see.
Hidey was in about 11:56 and was probably looking for "nestovers" and found a feather instead. He/she played with it for about 2 minutes then flew off. Guess I go check on the Harrisburg falcons and see if any of them are back to their nest ledge. In case, you didn't hear the one male was euthanized due to injuries but the remaining 4 females are alive and well. There's one that really screams alot. Maybe she's exceptionally hungry? They're still fun to watch. Also checked on the Barn owls - they are so cute.
Have a good day eveyone and stay cool. From cooler Lancaster Co. PA

Thanks for your birthday wishes, Jim.

Hello again,

Thank you so much for the information about thistle. I had completely weeded a large bed 5 weeks ago and the thistle had nearly taken over just that quickly. Also for the information about attracting butterflies. but we have space.

Eaglet on bar at OK; 2 in nest at Dukes; still can't get NBG; and worst of all no Hidey. I have a sinking feeling that Hidey's seafood nestaurant is going out of business.

Cheers,
Judie

Afternoon Everyone in Eagleland! Guess I've missed Hidey--MT nest now.
Yesterday at the Park, one of my fellow buds said he recently was coming in the Park Entrance road & one of the huge (he said) eaglets was standing in the middle! This was near the creek and nest tree. He shooed it off the road & all was well!I haven't seen one yet.
Today, I am not at the beach, but by the pond at exhibit shop office!I hope there's film at 11 of Mits parasailing!☺

NatureNut said...

I was so glad to hear Sharon's account of her flicker family--hope it's a preview of Flicker Saga in my yard. Ms. Flicker started making a hole in dead tree trunk on Sunday.Monday afternoon, she & male buddy flew to the tree. She went off & he sat there for awhile & took off--did not lift a beak! All my friends have said, "isn't that just like a man?!" No offense to our Dadsters.
She was back again this AM, digging away. I Googled & they can make nest hole 15" deep!Only her tail feathers show now in the hole & sawdust is flying! Off work tomorrow, so hope I can watch the show ☺ Will try to put some pics on..
Back to work-----

Prayers for all who are in need and special thoughts to Dana & Ed.
Good Grief, Dana, you need to do a Dr. Visit reality show! It's been a rough spring for you guys. Sending positive vibes......

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Loretta, the flickers dug out this nest about 2 months ago and then the starlings came and took over the nest. I guess it was a time share because the flickers are there now with their young. I am loving it.

Mits said...

WOW!!!!!!!! that was some fun, went up 800 feet over the ocean, could see clear ti Delaware, had the option of being dipped in the ocean before trip was over, they bring you down, dunk you to your waist then bring you back up again......:):), checked off another thing on my bucket, ride very smooth and your are secure, so did not bother ribs. And they did take pics, so I have proof

Mits said...

your right Sharon, can't be mad at me I live here:)

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

That is right Mits! I am so glad you enjoyed that. I would be too skeered!

NatureNut said...

Sharon, that is so great. We've had so many starlings & grackles eating everything this year, that F refuses to put out any more seed and suet. I was so depressed not being able to see the regular gang. At least we have Ms. Flicker. I may put out suet (in the dark ☺) as now is the time when the woodies bring their babies for meals.
We do have a robin nest in view of the deck & Mr. house wren is visiting the bird house.

Mits said...

it was not scary at all, but I'm so much older than you, so not much scares me anymore:)

Hi All,
Just back from Duke Farms and getting caught up on the posts, There are some small birds that are either going into that limb on the right side of nest, or under the nest, not sure, They're very quick and if I don't watch that spot, I'm not sure I see them, just something move out of the corner of my eye. They flicker about came to my mind.

I was looking back over some of the posts re: thistle and butterflies. I "allowed" some thistle to grow in one of my gardens because the Gold Finches seem to like it and I like to watch them. Don't know what nationality this thistle is though and yes, it IS a weed. I have to watch it doesn't take over my other plants. I have two butterfly bushes (different colors) in the same garden and I enjoy watching the butterflies too.
