Morning all:) still raining here this morning. That's it, Sharon, sometimes the flowers will be all red, sometimes red and white. Just keep cutting off the old blossoms so it will keep blooming.
I don't hear a sound from Hidey or his parents...must be down at the river getting a fishing lesson. Can't you just see it now: But Mom, the water's too cold! But Dad, I don't know how to swim! How's that go now, do I catch them with my beak or my feetsies?
Gotta finish getting ready to get outta here....yucky day to have to be out and about...think I'll have my eggs sunny-side up---maybe that will help! LOL. Later gators...stay safe and dry!
Hi, everyone, Lynn, that's funny you mentioned letting the little guy out-- I don't dare! My SIL told me that 2 small dogs in her neighborhood have recently been snatched away by hawks! One was a mini doxie, and the other was a Lhasa Apso pup. Some friends of hers also lost a Yorkie to a hawk. This happened with people close by! What a horrible death for the dogs, AND what an awful ordeal for their people! Since we have a pair of hawks nesting in our tree, and lots of red-tailed hawks nearby, I'm gonna keep the little guy inside. He's paper trained, so that's not a problem. (We have some pretty bold coyotes roaming the neighborhood, too! One of our cats was a victim a few years ago, before we even knew we had coyotes!) After losing our adorable cat, I had post-traumatic stress for several months. :o[ Can't possibly take a chance with little Jake! (You should see him-- he's a total lap puppy who loves to give kisses, and a real snuggler! :o]
OMIGOSH-- HAPPY BIRTHDAY, THELMA!! Hope it's a really special day for you, with lots and lots of blessings!
Hope when Hidey shows up, he has a fish with him! I betcha Mom & Dad are teaching the 'bratty teenager' how to fish! They're such good parents, I can't imagine them turning our eaglet loose without survival skills!
Hey, guess what! I had forgotten just how loudly bulldogs can snore! You should hear the sawmill chorus coming from Jakey! What a character he is.
Well, gotta get some breakfast. It's cool and damp here today, and Lynn's eggs sunny side up sound really good! BBIALW. Have a great day, everyone! TGIF! :o]
GOOD MORNING ALL, ANOTHER RAINY DAY IN GA, no rain for a few days, had to water plants everyday. so this rain is a welcome site, except last night I thought we were going to float away. plant shopping again tomorrow.. woo hoo.. I love plant shopping. looking for something that hummers really like..ANY SUGGESTIONS?? HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GREAT DAY!
T-Bird just left to go to Justin's Awards Day at school. This is his last day at Middle School (if he passes). He has such a struggle with school except for math and he is great at math.
I have been reading Thelma her birthday wishes as they come in!
Andrea, I have 2 dogs that snore really bad, one is a lab/shepherd mix, Buphals, and the other is a chow/cocker/beagle mix, Hairy. Jake is so precious. If he were here, I would give him kisses back! :)
Hi, all, hi, Sharon, I came running back to the 'puter, thinking I'd heard Hidey, but guess not. Must've been our hawks out front. I bet your pups are really cute! Do you have a picture of them? Ooh-- wait! I DID hear our Hidey! Must be near the nest in the tree. Hope somebody's snagged some eagle fast food for the hungry youngster!
Hi all! Birthday greetings to Thelma...and a have a great day to the rest for sure! Another rainy day here in VA/WV...good grief I think I am about ready to build an ark...! Haven't checked my garden in about 2 days so sure hope it has not become a 'water garden'. Am going to be busy today at work - but will check in when I can. Miss seeing our Hidey in the nest and hope fishing is good down on the river's edge. Sure hope all have a wonderful weekend. Don't forget the Belmont tomorrow - jockey Calvin Borel may make history:
Now, Borel is once again the early favorite, this time with a chance to make history. “I never dreamed I’d have to do it on a different horse,” he said.
Borel went on to emphatically guarantee that 2009 Belmont Stakes picks on Mine That Bird would win this Saturday’s race. He felt even more comfortable making those kinds of 2009 Belmont Stakes Picks because according to him, Mine That Bird seemed a little different. “When you run them two races and come back so fresh like he did -- I mean, he was bouncing,” he said. “And that does not happen."
Should be an interesting race...and again glad the filly is safe and sound in her barn just watching the boys run...chances were good she could take this field...but no sense in chancing any injury to her for sure.
Good morning! My goodness, still raining? Another beautiful day here. It was 59 when I went down to get the paper. Have finished reading and it is up to 65. Out to mow shortly!
GA-GIRL, I know the hands down favorite in my yard is the Kangaroo Paws plant we recently added. Can't keep the hummers away from it! I know they like red or pink flowers best, and flowers that are trumpet-shaped are perfect. They like honeysuckle & morning glories, too. Gosh, mine like my fuchsias, but I don't know how hardy they'd be where you are. I guess you could consider them an annual back east. My hummers even like my geraniums! That surprised me-- had never seen hummers visit them before now.
Time to leave to eat and then exit to the great outdoors.
Have a fantastic Friday everyone! My daughter and grandsons are enjoying the day.....the first day out of school. Wahoo! Go to it boys! Have an adventurous summer!
Thanks Ms Bookworm. I have geraniums all over the place havent seen them (it) go to them yet. they will come to my petunias. I have had fuchasis before in a hanging basket, they are very pretty. I havent seen Kangaroo paws here, but have seen them in gardening shows on tv.I seem to only have one hummer every year and want more. I am going to look for hummingbird vine or morning glory. I need something to run on a fence. Thanks for the help
Mariah, do be careful with the Humming Bird Vine...they can be very invasive. We once had one on our garden fence and the roots spread up into the garden and we had hummingbird vines EVERTWHERE! Had to kill them with weed killer. We now have 3 planted in big wooden tubs and they do well there with their roots contained. The hummers seem to love those beautiful flowers more than anything else:)

Andrea - yes, fuschias are annuals here...got a real pretty one this year. Finally figures out they like LOTS of water...it is gorgeous! Wish we could have them all year - maybe if I brought it inside?
That is just so so great...I thought that is the way I read that Paula. I just wanted to make sure.BOB CONTRGRAULATIONS ON 2 WINS--BORTH VERY BEAUTIFUL PICTURES
Yes, Dana. I won first prize in the same Chesapeake Bay Foundation contest for the photo of the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse. The inclusion of their boat may have what put me over the top (plus the well wishes of the Momsters).
Thanks Wanda, that is good to know. I do have a place I can contain it, if I can find one.I am going to go online and check out the cardinal climber vine that Megan spoke of.I do have a fence to put a vine on. Dont want anything to take over. I want lots of color and something that will draw out birds. Any suggestions about Red birds. We have lots and they do visit the feeders( so do squirrels) and I know they nest in bushes. But, what kind of treats do they like??

Finally called Arlingtion Nat'l Cemetary...couldn't get my first date in July for Mom's inurnment...got the second date in August. The fellow I spoke with said July was all filled up...they are doing 30 a day there now.
GA girl, cardinal climber is an annual so it wil not be invasive- it is Ipomoea quamoclit- it can be grown from seed, plants may be hard to find. I grow it every year because my customers insist I do! Paula, you can winter a fuschia over inside, it may not be pretty, but will live til next year. the mtn laural seemed like something I wanted for a large shaded area at the side of the property.I wish I had gotten out and looked at it more closely
Mariah, our cardinals love sunflower seeds and many others, but the sunflower seeds seem to be their favorite. They nest high up in our evergreens, so I have never seen inside one of their nests.
Hello all, I just checked in on the babies, and does anyone know if there is something else going on at the Delta nest? I have both wide angle and close up views, but 2 different pictures! The close up is just the baby, And the baby is missing out of the wide angle but was very much there a few minutes ago with the adult who is there alone now.
I just read the note from David Hancock from yesterday and he said they were going to try to put a "catch net" at the base of the tree today in case the other eaglet fell....
Catch net would be great! Sorry they didn't have something before they lost one. I hope after this season someone builds a platform for the couple's nest if they choose to come back next year.
i like the idea that hidey might be eating the results of her own fishing. but this version of mantling---hiding her eating behind THE BLOB---is a shame. :)
If a baby falls out of the nest, what do the parents usually do? Do they get upset and try to take care of it on the ground, or is that a death sentence for the baby without human help? This Delta eagle seems really unconcerned and it's been a good 25 minutes since I 've see the baby. Any chance it's under the adult?
DANA!--BELMONT is tomorrow!!!---wonder which horse JIM has picked! ho!----Think I know who BOZZETT has picked---SHE LIKE CALVIN TOO!! ho!---BOZZETT IS THE HORSE PERSON!!--
Paula, I guess a baby on the ground would likely be taken by something before too long. I'm pretty sure I see the little Delta stinker now, under parent, just peeking out a bit.....thank goodness! After this youngster has gone, do you think someone will build a platform or something for the next year as Jo mentioned?
I haven't read anything yet about the other eaglet.. As you said the wide view just shows the adult and the close up view is just the eaglet but it does have the correct date/time.. Confusing!
On the close up I can see the chick in front of the parent. I read somewhere the nest is very close to the road. I read somewhere that they are now possibly going to put a net around the tree in case the other eaglet falls.
I just had a delivery of a bouquet of Edible Fruit from Goldilocks and Nurse Nightengale:) Absolutely perfectly fresh and delicious. I just ate a chocolate covered pinapple slice...ummmm! Gene likes those too. There are only 3...now only one. Who do you suppose will get that one? I posted a photo of it on my WANDA'S WISHES, Ceil and MM so that you can see how beautiful it is and so fresh. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Belmont Info The action takes place this year at Belmont Park, Saturday June 6, 2009, post time 6:27 PM ET. On race day complete TV coverage airs on ABC beginning at 5 PM ET. Calvin Borel to ride Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird for the final showdown in New York. Guess who's gonna take it?
Norma You best call your Bookie for placing your bet on tomorrow's Belmont! Calvin would be disappointed if you didn't make out with some cash in hand!
It would be great, Norma! I just hope every humand and horse get through safely. I'm not quite a fan of racing anymore for many reasons, but I still follow the Triple Crown. Only to make sure that no one ever breaks Secretariat's records! When I was a little girl, all my friends had pictures of David Cassidy plastered to their walls and notebooks. Mine were covered with Secretariat's!
Thanks to all my eagle momsters and dadsters for your thoughts and prayers about my job interview. It was not meant to be. I also really enjoyed reading all your birthday wishes and your ecards!!!
I read yesterday's blog---& WAS DELIGHTED to hear some of you folks knew people ROMNEY --some had stopped in ROMNEY--& BOZZETT praised 'MARIO'S'---That's the restaurant -- where the TRAIN FOLKS ate---
Lynne2, I'm with you when it comes to Secretariat! He was really something special, wasn't he?
Paula, If I were you, I'd try bringing fuchsias indoors for the winter. Should survive, as long as they don't freeze.
Golly, I managed to miss Hidey in the nest! Say, is that the turtle shell almost in the center of the nest at 3:00? (Doesn't pay to be a turtle around these eagles, does it?) Well, the dryer's done-- gotta run now. Will check back in a bit! Have a great afternoon, and I hope there are no floods back there! You guys must be really soggy by now. It kinda looks like it might sprinkle out here in SoCal. Doubt it'll really rain, though. Well, BBIALW. :o]

Good morning, everyone!
Happy Birthday, Thelma!
There are only 3 Kestrel chicks left this morning, another has left the box, with one more trying to get the nerve to go.
Andrea, hummingbirds like anything that is tubular, like Floralgirl's avatar at the top of this page. Someting that they can dip their beaks into.
Good Morniing, Deb...TGIF!
Kudos to THELMA for taking the time to go to Justin's award cermony...especially on her HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Good luck Justin:)
They don't send out an invitation to the Awards Ceremony unless they are getting something, so at least we know he will receive some kind of award.

Feeding at BWO!
Finally saw the chicks at BWO. Had to zoom in, they really blend in with the nest.
Hummingbird plants- Salvias, nicotiana, petunias, four o'clocks, cardinal climber vine, penstemons, lantana, pentas, monarda, agastache, coral bells(heuchera), fuschias, buddleias, lobelia cardinalis, anything with a tubular flower.
Back outside, cutting flowers, a soggy job this morning.
Happy Birthday to Thelma!!!
Really foggy at Finney's on the water and at OK they have zoomed in on an adult at the top of a pole.
Congratulations Bob! Loved both of your pictures that won.
Time to leave to eat and then exit to the great outdoors.

Good Morning All!
Special day for our T-Bird!
Happy Happy Birthday Thelma. I am hoping that all your birthday wishes come true.
We are just under 3 inches of rain here, and like everyone else, I'm ready for the sun now, but as a wise man once said, it is what it is....
Mountain laurel is Kalmia latifolia, it grows here in many wooded areas.
Wind is picking up at the nest - At first I thought it was incoming wings!
Isn't Mt. Laurel what the deer here eat a lot of?
Thanks, Megan...I'll give it a try!
Yup, lots of mountain laurel here.
My gauge had over 2" this morning...
Among many other plants, yes, they will eat mountain laurel.
THANKS MEGAN... ugh.. deer again. I dont want to attack them. We had a deer cross the road in front of us this morning

HAPPY BIRTHDAY THELMA!!!
OK the close up was a recorded broadcast as a message just popped up saying the "end of the recorded broadcast has been reached"
I just read the note from David Hancock from yesterday and he said they were going to try to put a "catch net" at the base of the tree today in case the other eaglet fell....
Lynne2 - I noticed the same thing at the Delta nest - I'll try to read for an update. Weird! Hope they didn't lose the other one.
I was surfing all the eagle cams and ALL the eaglets are looking like first flights are coming! Especially the Oklahoma cam.
I think that is Hidey I hear up on that limb stomping around. I am wondering if Lunch will be up on the limb or down in the nest?
Hidey is in the nest!
and there she is!
Thanks for the info Lynne2
Catch net would be great! Sorry they didn't have something before they lost one. I hope after this season someone builds a platform for the couple's nest if they choose to come back next year.
Hidey sneaked right by me!
In the nest eating! I bet Hidey is
fishing
thanks Wanda! I will load a feeder with just sunflower seeds! we have so many birds..

i like the idea that hidey might be eating the results of her own fishing. but this version of mantling---hiding her eating behind THE BLOB---is a shame. :)
God Bless You Several Times Hidey
Lib and Hidey in the nest...Hidey snagged the fish...a very wet Lib just took off the back towards the right
wow, was that sneezing or snorting from Hidey!
MAKES ME MAD ABOUT WAITING TO DO SOMETHING AT THE DELTA NEST!!!!!!!!
1ST THINGS 1ST!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY--HAPPY BIRTHDAY -- BEAUTIFUL THELMA!!---HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU ON 25TH!!----WISHING YOU THE BEST DAY IN THE WORLD!!!
Looks like Lib had to swim to get that fish. He was really soaking wet and teh brat took the fish right away!
I think Hidey was messing with that turtle shell until Lib showd up with a fish.
So I guess Lib just brought a fish in...from your comments Hidey has been in the nest...
Good Morning Norma ( :
Your going to watch the race. What time does it come on today?
If a baby falls out of the nest, what do the parents usually do? Do they get upset and try to take care of it on the ground, or is that a death sentence for the baby without human help? This Delta eagle seems really unconcerned and it's been a good 25 minutes since I 've see the baby. Any chance it's under the adult?
Lynne2 - if the eaglet survives the fall, the parents will feed it on the ground...the problem could be ground predators.
GUESS WE ARE GOING FOR 500!!---think I have read the blog---Lots happening yesterday and today!!---
WHOA!!---AREN'T WE PROUD OF BOB!!!

BELLE & LIB'S 'LITTLE ONE' IS STILL WITH US! 'LITTLE IMP'!
HAHAHAHAHA!!! I finally got to see a poop shoot...Hornby. ahhhh, it's the little things in life....
I hear what sounds like the baby eaglet at Delta. I hope the little fellow is there under parent.
has a parent ever tried to return an eaglet to the nest?
Hancock says Delta chick is next to Mom, on the other side of her.
GA Girl - I don't know on the returning an eaglet to the nest.
Norma, Calvin and Mind that Bird all the way!
David Hancock's remarks on the Delta Nest
I haven't read anything yet about the other eaglet.. As you said the wide view just shows the adult and the close up view is just the eaglet but it does have the correct date/time..
Confusing!
DELTA EAGLET IN NEST!!
On the close up I can see the chick in front of the parent. I read somewhere the nest is very close to the road. I read somewhere that they are now possibly going to put a net around the tree in case the other eaglet falls.
FLOOD WARNING ISSUED IN WV TODAY!!
JO!---FINISH BUILDING THE ARK!!
THANK YOU GOD! Boy, this waiting and watching and worrying is exhausting!
Delta eaglet hiding again...hmmmm, we seem to have a Hidey wannabe!
Belmont Info
The action takes place this year at Belmont Park, Saturday June 6, 2009, post time 6:27 PM ET.
On race day complete TV coverage airs on ABC beginning at 5 PM ET. Calvin Borel to ride Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird for the final showdown in New York. Guess who's gonna take it?
Dana, I just read that too, Jo put a link on (Thanks Jo!). I sure hope they get it up fast!
JO!---Is there not any DNR group around, etc -- that could go pick up the little one on the ground????
Hidey done and playing with a stick
Yummy, I love those, Wanda
I need to stop eating, or I won't have room for my crab legs tonight;)
Jo thanks I was over in Maine Disc. and Hancock. I found your link and read there too just now.
I hoping next season they had a platform to that tree. The eagles are showing that is the tree they want to nest in.
After hatching Canada law doesn't allow them to interfere. So them putting this netting to catch eaglet incase it falls is WONDERFUL!
JO!---Didn't I tell you CALVIN keeps me informed!---ho!
Norma, the landowner checked on the eaglet, but it didn't survive the fall.
Hidey really has a fancy fly off the nest!
And he must land up on the limb near the cam - just heard his footsies land!
They could try to shore up the nest, or place it in a box, but eagles nest where they want to nest...
The Caltrans eagles insisted on their nest even after a cone was put in it to deter them...
Norma someone went right away to check the eaglet that fell out of the nest. But the little one died on impact.
LYNN2---Did "CALVIN' call you too?
ho!---WOULDN'T IT BE 'GREAT' if he wins!!---(think he will)!
Norma You best call your Bookie for placing your bet on tomorrow's Belmont! Calvin would be disappointed if you didn't make out with some cash in hand!
NO, it wasn't the landowner that found the chick, it was someone from the rescue group, O.W.L
I saw the Delta eaglet's flapping wings! YEAH!
I see Hidey moved the turtle shell back where we could see it!
Loretta will be stateside tomorrow!
I bet we get to look at some great interesting photos from her trip!
PAULA---Thanks for the info---so sad--!!
I need to eat my lunch sandwich before it is dinner time........
BBL
New thread! Come on over!
Thanks to all my eagle momsters and dadsters for your thoughts and prayers about my job interview. It was not meant to be. I also really enjoyed reading all your birthday wishes and your ecards!!!
Love,
Thelma
I read yesterday's blog---& WAS DELIGHTED to hear some of you folks knew people ROMNEY --some had stopped in ROMNEY--& BOZZETT praised 'MARIO'S'---That's the restaurant -- where the TRAIN FOLKS ate---
CEIL -- pray that MM gets a good report!!----
DEB---I see there are still 2 KESTRELS in the nest!---
Hi, everyone!
