new thread, I'll have to say I'm usually at work that is a new one for me
I'm not sure what to do :)
GOOD AFTERNOON, FOLKS.I had some puter problems, AOL this time I think, and had to shut it all down. Then I had to do a lot of tinkering with the adjustments. Hope it worked. I lost a large, beautiful email I was writing at the time, which does not make me happy. But how are things in the world of our eagles today?C(°ﮡ°)DJim
Hi Jim, I just joined myself
Don't worry T-bird. Floral girl already left a comment on the previous thread about the "New Thread."C(°ﮡ°)DJim

WHOO HOO as JO would say.NORMA: WELCOME BACK, WE SURE HAVE MISSED THOSE "HO's"MEGAN: THANKS FOR THE MOON INFO, CORN MOON/STURGEON MOON, FULL RED MOON..COULD IT BE REDDER THAN LAST MONTH ??Be back on much much later, Happy Evening Everyone xox
Nice to see everyone. Need to read other thread. ( :Watching Tennis waiting for "Dressage" to come on Olympics.
I see we lost A 65 Skye sad...Although they spotted one they thought that had died. A 54 that's a good thing.
I have IE and the pop up cam stays up for me too Paula. ( :
I got my Park Butterfly Garden pics on the blog. The last blue flower has not been IDed yet, but I bet Megan knows!BTW, Norma mentioned Jimmy Durante.I remember when he would sign off his TV show, he would say,"and goodnight Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are." If anyone else remembers that, they're either a trivia buff, or a senile citizen like me!!!
Nature I too remember Jimmy Durante...he could really make you laugh.
count me in as a senile citizen....remember it like it was yesterday...
BTW got to beach around 7....Beltway traffic as usual...few little raindrops....got gas at a station right after I got off the Bay Bridge....had to wait in line...$3.49:):)
Lord, I missed the new thread. Hi ya'll. How are ya?
Sharon said gas in Wytheville, VA was 3.49 too mits.
Sure can count me as a senile citizenGood ole' Schnozzola with his cigar!Remember - Inka Dinka Doo
Shaking the ash off my cigar lol
Frodocam Gallery has been started - only 1 pic to view right now - and it's not Jim's pic that he sent to them. I'm sure they'll add lots more
I remember Inka dinka doo, don't think I remember the goodnight thing though. Who had the wife, Gracie? He would say, "Say goodnight, Gracie." And then she would say, "Goodnight, Gracie."
Wow, I love the pop up, too. Mine stays where I put it, though.
Deb George Burns and Gracie Allen
Wanted you to know SGT Ryan will hopefully be SSG Ryan the beginning of next month. He emailed that he had the promotion review board and that he maxed the board receiving 150 points out of 150.If it were not for you all keeping me in your prayers... I never could have done it. Thank you all for everything you have done for me and my soldiers. I miss you all so much and think nonstop about returning home
Good evening everyone. Justin and I arrived in Bedford a short time ago.
Deb did you get up to the tower today
We had just boxed up some items to ship to him in Iraq - goodies plus hubby copies movies on CD's to send to him. Now we are working on the box for SGT Patrick! If anyone wants addresses to send cards just email me. It really means a lot to the troops to receive mail & boxes. Ryan also makes sure that items are shared with the men under him that don't receive any word from stateside.
Deb your pictures are AWESOME !!! ( : thank you so much for sharing them
Going to watch some tv
Thanks for giving us your current location EESharon!HI JUSTINI bet Buddy was glad to see you!
Actually, gas was $3.45 cents in Wytheville but at the intersection of 220 and I81, it was $3.43. In between, in Salem, VA, it was 3.77.
CU later Dana.
Buddy is busy right now chasing Justin all through the house. Buphals and Mopsy don't know quite what to do!
God Bless Ryan and your family Mema Jo!!
DEB - What a variety of pictures.Trying to catch the fish is excellentHad to enlarge the one pic to see what it was you were staying away from - YUCK! Spider sure is nasty looking!Hope you answer Ceil's question about getting up into the tower and I hope you were able to hold an osprey
Hey Jo, can you email me those addresses?Naturenut, nice pics! That blue flower is a salvia-looks like salvia guaranitica- I love the hummingbird pics!
I just finally finished looking at Deb's pics- they are wonderful also. Love the osprey pics, that spider gave me the creeps though..ew...
Yes, I got to go up in the tower and it was amazing. I am working on the pictures now. I only had trouble one time and that was when I realized the tower swayed when anyone moved. Not a pleasant feeling. I was glad to get my feet on the ground. I will tell all about my trip up in a bit, I need a pop.
Just got to see your pictures Deb. Beautiful. Night Dana.
Good for you Deb.
Congrats to Ryan, how great for him. Glad to see Norma was on today, even though I don't get to stick around, I miss reading her greetings.Dana, have missed reading about you, also.Megan, that spider was huge, not quite as big as a tarantula, but grossed me out. The college students thought it was great.
I have my drink of Diet Coke and am ready to tell you about the tower. I will finish the pictures tonight, then you can see. Hope it isn't too long, but know a lot of you will find it fascinating like I did.
We had 4 birds to prep for release today. Toto and Moreau, the two back from the Raptor Center in St Paul, then Sneezy and Sioux (I got to name her). Toto was easy, we just painter the wings pink so we could find her easier. Next was Moreau, who was named after the river where the eaglet chicks were rescued from drowning. Their nest was about to be destroyed by the Missouri River, which rose 12' this year. That was good for the river, but bad for the nest. The eaglets are in Idaho at Jane's ranch. Moreau just had to have a tail receiver put on so we could track short distances, it will fall off eventually. Then we painted her wings.
sounds great Deb:)
Loretta - Your turn for the compliments! Loved all your photos.Need a close up of the county bluebird statue!~ The marsh walk is really pretty with lots of things to see. You keep a very pretty park!!!
The next two both had tail feathers that had been broken and had to be replaced. They use their tail for flying and when they are just learning to fly, it is important to send them out in the world with everything going for them. The Raptor Center sent down 8 feathers for tails and quite a few for wings. We didn't have any broken wing feathers, but we ended up having to improvise on into a tail. This is not the preferred thing to do, but not using it would have left a space in the tail. Jane found a wing feather that fit quite well and put it in a non-strategic place. These birds didn't get receivers as they wanted the tail feathers to stay in place without any interference. I got to hold Sneezy, the last bird we prepped. I say we, but I was just the photographer.
I don't blame you for not liking swaying towers - especially if you're up in it! Deb, was Moreau an osprey or an eaglet?
Where is Jane's home base, Deb.
So glad you got to hold one. Lucky you.
I will tell you briefly how they attach the tail feathers. The feather shaft is hollow, as you know, so they use wood dowels that they carve down to the correct size to fit in the shaft. The dowel is then glued in the shaft. The feathers were all prepped on the ground, so that when they inserted them into the bird's shaft, they only had to size one end of the dowel to fit. It was very interesting to watch. Last step was to get the feathers all back in place and the tail looked good as new.
Hi Gang, I finally completed adding my "swamp things" to the blog. And Jo, I did name all but one, but I have my peeps working on it!! EnjoyBBL--dishes,etc.,yuck
Moreau was an osprey, he was named after the river that comes into the Missouri River where the eaglets were rescued from. Did I confuse you more?Bottom line, Moreau is an osprey. Jane is in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Loretta, love the pictures. You have so many different plants than we do, the bald cypress tree is so neat. What are the green, roundish things on the tree?
I got it Moreau is an ospreyIt is just unbelievable (like Mits said) about this experience you are having. I am so very happy for you!
Who needs tv when we have such great photos and life experience stories. Loretta beautiful pictures. Thanks everyone.
Couldn't leave yet,,,,had to read comments & hear about Deb's spectacular adventures!!!!If I saw a spider, I woulda been outta there even if I had to jump! Funny, altho I've been interested in insects for decades, I still hate spiders!! Maybe 'cuz they have 8 legs, not 6!?
I am just now getting to look at Debs' and Lorettas' pics....storm sounds like it is coming...so I'm going off for awhile need to upnpack and take some ALEVE, standing for so long yesterday and 4 hour drive today, has me a little sore.
Talk to you tomorrow, Mits
Loretta, Don't know when Durante did that...I remember it (Mrs. Calabash and inka dinka doo), but not sure if from trivia or tv spots, or if it was the real deal!! I'm 59...Hey, Dana!! How are ya'?
Jo, congrats on promotion. I'd like their addressess, please!
I think I will call it a night. Pleasant dreams. Prayers for all in need. WAKE UP MASON. Prayers for our military men and women for their safety.
Helen, glad your trip was uneventful....and that gas was cheaper!!
Hi Lynn, I remember Durante saying that Goodnight at the end of his TV show. Now does everybody remember Howdy Doody??? LOLThx, Megan about blue flower. I had no idea it was salvia! Naturalist who does the garden was out of town.Speaking of 'puter problems, for awhile now, everytime I am adding pictures to Blogger and trying to do text,AOL pops on all by itself! Pain in the &*^%T!!!I keep minimizing it & it keeps popping!I just went into Default programs & changed it to IE since we have to get on to AOL w/it anyway. Have to see if that works.
Loretta, your park is beautiful and you have captured it so well!
Deb, you are just having way too much fun, girlfriend!!! SO happy for you.
Margy...hope you don't have to go in tonight...they've had a heck of an evening! Big bad wreck on 81 w/ at least one fatality, 3 or 4 vehicles. Traffic stopped both directions, diverted, backup thru' town, etc.
IT'S HOWDY DOODY TIME, IT'S HOWDY DOODY TIME.....YES, I REMEMBER THAT (BARELY) - older siblings were watching it so I had no choice.MEMA - SEND ME THE ADDRESSES TOO PLEASE...I AM AWESTRUCK WITH DEB'S ADVENTURES, AND ALL THE FLOWER, FUR AND FEATHERS PICS YOU FOLKS HAVE BEEN PUTTING ON YOUR BLOGS...
ok, GOODNIGHT EVEYONE....WAKE UP MASON.......NOW!!!!.....LOVE WATCHING AND LISTENING TO STORMS OVER THE OCEAN.
...AND BUTTERFLY AND CREEPY CRAWLIES PICS..I found a (deceased) blue dragon fly in my car this afternoon after work - just googled some words to look more up and somehow a site called 'MAGPIE MAGIC' opened up....Uh..what's that all about ??(It's a home-made jewelry site...)
Yeah, Howdy Doody, Ranger Hal, Miss Francis and Ding Dong School...the list goes on!!!
LYNN - So far, so good, have not gotten called in.Sounds bad, the wreck you just described...have heard a of sirens off and on...I DO NOT like that kind of activity - and never cared for it when I ran ambulance calls either....I was never a TRAUMA JUNKIE...
DEB and LORETTA...what beautiful pictures you both did, very simple and beautiful....love them
How about Pic Temple?
Goodnight, Mits!! Nothing more peaceful to fall asleep to than the shore and rain!Margy...so you have your own business, huh? LOL. Too bad someone forgot to tell you...or share the profits!
Sam and Friends....
Yep, Pick Temple, too!Well, Margy, got to admit that trauma was not my favorite thing in nursing, but saw plenty of it in ER; we were very fortunate at GM not to have had many serious injuries...can probably count on 2 hands the number of "serious" in 28yrs.
DEB - Just love those names for the birds....you are having some magical experiences, the feather replacement information is fascinating. LORETTA: your pictures are great too! There is SO MUCH TALENT, WISDOM, AND COMPASSION ON THIS BLOG!XO XO
Who/what was Sam and Friends??
HELLO AND GOOD NIGHT MITS....GLAD YOU ARE BACK TO THE ATLANTIC.....THE LIFE OF A MOVIE STAR.....XO
Sam and Friends came on very late at night, after the Steve Allen show I think, was a short little thing with some muppet like characters, Sam, I think, was kind of like Kermit....I have to admit I don't remember much about it...just caught a few glimpses during the summer when older siblings were home from school...Gosh, I am still hearing sirens.
Prayers for the accident victims, and all the providers involved in these emergencies here....
Deb, your pictures are FABULOUS!!!!I love the fishing sequence. I don't know how you got pics w/out having to make a video! Early in the spring I watched an adult female dive 3 times to get a fish. How great these juvies are doing it already. The round balls on the cypress leaves are the fruit--dark, rounded cones. Altho in Pine family, they shed their leaves/needles in the fall. This is about as far north as they will grow. The Park areas I've posted pics of are just near our office. The whole Park is 2000 acres (the less space for bldgs!!!!)We have 11 other small properties open to the public---no offices.Mostly hiking, fishing & canoe/kayak launch areas.Jo, congrats to Ryan & prayers for all over there and for Mason.
New York Ironweed and Cardinal flower, two of my favorites, Loretta!
I will have to finish today's pictures later, they are all technical type, showing a lot of what I described. I am getting a headache, I think too much sun and I am tired, too. No Olympics tonight for me, I am off to bed.Night everyone, glad you are enjoying my adventures along with me.
Your spot sounds like a great place for a Field Trip, Loretta...is it open to the public? What a great place to work !
I had to google that one........Sam and Friends was Jim Henson's first television show, a five-minute show that aired twice daily on WRC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Washington, D.C. The show ran from May 9, 1955 to December 15, 1961. I never saw it..... lol
Margy, I've always been a law enforcement junkie, and with firefighter/paramedic S-I-L's have become EMS junkie, too. After nursing, I started what was then called Police Science degree program...got married and moved here and didn't finish that one! Went to Calvin Bayer to apply for a deputy opening, and the a-hole laughed at me and said "we don't hire women." Such were the old days!
Okay - that would explain the Kermit character...Thanks JO - I remember one sweet little sequence they would do: "Inch Worm, Inch Worm..."
Wow, this was a late thread.Late eve here too, busy, busy...Getting ready to watch Phelps swim!
Thanks, Loretta, for the info on the cypress tree. We don't have them here. My camera is very fast, so I can get a lot of pictures quickly for the fishing sequences.Off to bed!
Cool, Jo...I was too young to be up that late!
Haven't seen any Olympics yet, but I'm gonna now! thanks Paula..
Sorry to hear of traffic accidents up there. Do you have to go to work, Margy?I remember you mentioned Ironweed & now it's out. I missed a couple Turk's head lilies--out earlier if they survived & we should be having Turtlehead. Last year's drought did a number on plants--esp. at my house!BTW, I didn't mention Pick Temple 'cuz he was local, but Lynn is from DC, right? "All Giant Rangers will grow big & strong." Giant food was his sponsor.
My thoughts exactly MargieLet's pick out a day when you are not working & Loretta can be our guide - Eagle express might even be available for a tank of gas! Is the park in St Mary's CountyLike 100 miles from up here?
TOo young in '55, anyway...so it started on my 6th b-day! Of course I remember Steve Allen...but don't recall how long he was on the air...Jack Paar took over for him, right?
Oh Boy--good Olympic stuff!!!Thx, Paula!!Good Night to all
Right you are, Loretta. Giant Food was the sponsor!
Beautiful pics all around! love ironweed too, we have lots of it growing in our garden, great butterfly plant. Nite all, got to get up early and make the donuts..oops, I mean cut flowers..now I'm hungry for donuts..Wake up Mason!!

Goodnight Jo, Megan and Loretta! Sleep well. Blessings on you all!
PPS: Jo, Park is in PG County,10 miles E outside Beltway
Well, that was awesome! The home-town boy from Baltimore!..I wouldnta seen all those shows without my older sibs born in 1939 and 1941...they would just howl with laughter, that's woke me up sometimes.I guess I am IN for the night, no skies for the planets again, cloud cover again..Yes, a field trip.S'cuse me, gonna stand for the National Anthem.xo
Wake Up Mason.....You gotta hear all this chatter !Blessings, Prayers to all...Good Night, those heading for the feather pillows...xo xo
Finally got thru this thread..pics will have to wait till tomorrow.I can happily say I don't remember any of those shows! tee hee!Gonna call it a night, would love to stay up and watch the women's gymnastics...but stayed up too late earlier in the week, I'm beat. Interesting conversations tonight from everyone!
Phelps is on in 14 minutes....
floralgirl: another AWESOME avatar...
Paula, you are just a baby!!Goodnight, all. Prayers for all. Wake up, Mason!!
Phelps wins again!
I think PAULA comes in before Strawberry Shortcake, the Smurfs and Cabbage Patch Dolls, though....
My parents allowed my next older brother to take a nap before watching "The Untouchables"...and I was kinda fond of the Red Skelton show...
It's either doughnuts, meat loaf, stuffed peppers, or OLD SHOWS on this BLOG - Time to get ready to go back to bed...dodged the 9-1-1 bullet tonight...Overcast at the Finney's sites..nothing in either nest.Deer at the Salt Licks in PA woods..xoxo

GOOD NIGHT EVERYONESLEEP TIGHTPRAYERS FOR ALL (A SPECIAL ONE FOR YOU, MASON, TO WAKE UP)
Whoa, thanks Wanda, thanks JO for the alert you sent out Tuesday on Yahoo...the CNN top stories one..I couldn't afford to fix the computer if this happens....Chick on the nest at Finney's and sun trying to shine through at Over the Water...beautiful, both. xo
That chick is WAY DOWN in the nest at Finney's - -
It is after midnight - you two gals best get to bed.Margie - 2 people were killed in that accident over on 81.Goooooooood Night!
GOOD NIGHT, EVERYBODY...i'VE been kind of "out of it" a lot today ... definitely not my day!I'm hoping and praying we all have a better day tomorrow and for Mason to WAKE UP!i THINK I've had oatmeal every meal today (pre-flavored instant stuff); AND NOW I'm contemplating inventing "Fried Oatmeal." Sounds pretty good, I'm going to try it."Sweet dreams."C(°ﮡ°)DJim
MOVIN: Hope you are more IN TO IT now, rather than OUT OF IT....best wishes for feeling better....You take care.....xo
YAAAAYYYY!!!! Gold & Silver for US women in gymnastics & Phelps gets another medal too!!
P.S. Fried Apple-cinnamon oatmeal is good. I microwaved a packet with less milk than usual, so it was fairly solid. Then I browned it well in very little margarine. Probably could add jam or apple sauce...if you had some. Try it.I think you could also go the other way with it: use the unflavored stuff, add salt, pepper, onions, etc.Last week I added a packet of unflavored oatmeal to a half batch of pancakes, and it was good too, although it's flavor is kind of "pale" ... so far. C(°ﮡ°)DJim
good morning all

A VERY GOOD FRIDAY MORNING TO YOU ALL IN THE LAND OF THE AMERICAN EAGLE...Don't know how long it will last, but I'm up early this morning.T-Bird, I think our juvenile eaglets have all flown from the nest area and into their future.Nobody has seen them in more than a week, but the adults have begun making visits to restore the nest, which they don't do while the young are still using the nest, AND they are never followed by hungry eaglets.Apparently, the personnel at the training center haven't seen them around either.Don't know if they might return, since it's still early in the season, but they are gone exploring now.:~DC(°ﮡ°)DJim
DEB!----I have one question!!!!----Have you pinched yourself to find out if you are just DREAMING!!---I can't imagine how it must feel to be helping to save these birds!!!----
