Jim, thanks for blog link on the Aussie birds. Of course, still middle of winter there, so food sources should certainly increase come spring. So don't think they are giving up on Frodo cam location.
Nice breeze here in the panhandle and currently 70 degrees.
Well, time for one of my least favorite chores...bathing this smelly dachshund!! My beloved SharPei w/ all their wrinkles never had the BO that this dog has!BBL.
Ha - quick stop on, figured I would miss the Morning Eagles...so glad that early T-Bird saw them, as usual - and a few other luckies...Found a pic the other day of me and my dachschund Missy, in the midst of vegeatable gardens I USED TO HAVE when I lived in Hedgesville back in 1981 - wish I could wind the clock back!Good Day to All, won't be on here much, grandson and I will be out catting around...xo

Nest Update08/08/08:Important Note-The Osprey Cam is offline so work can be done on the ground around the base of the cam. We expect to be offline for 2-3 weeks.Sad news from the Maine Discussion forum -- Sheri the Woods Hole osprey that was tagged with a transmitter, injured her legs and had to be euthanized. update from LISA
Too bad about Sheri, Helen.Do we know if Freida and Frodo were banded?
I really enjoyed seeing Lib since I miss the early morning visits....
CT is down..LOL, now our pic looks nice!
I don't know, Lynn, the expert Greg, I think knows them by sight..
We have never seen or heard of any banding of the new chicks from Brisbane. I don't think Frieda or Frodo were ever banded.. They just return to their nesting ledge. Last year Greg thought there was a NEW Frieda.
Lynn - you can ask that question on their forum site....Birds are back in Town Forum Scroll to the bottom for your comment/question.......
their forum looks much more user friendly this year...
It really does..
Nice new avatars, Megan...just noticed them!
Lunch time here BBL

Missed all our eagle visits.:( What else is new. I have also caught up on the blog and am now ready to get to it.THE OLYMPICS ARE HERE FINALLY! I will be glued to the set also. OK, Margy...I will hang on to your caterpillar for a few more days. I will leave it at GeeGee's and if you don't get it in time to watch the metamorphis, then she can watch it do it's thing.
On a quick break. I wanted to thank those who took time to leave a comment for this mornings feed on the For the Love of Eagles BLOG. I posted my question, Jo. Thanks!
COSTUME LADY: You have a Yahoo...xo
Brisbane ledge - Now the cam view is like it was last year. I still have not seen either falcon there.
I wonder if it is a good sign that a cub being born is getting closer and closer the more Mei Sleeps and Sleeps
usually is a good sign, but I have heard nothing from the zoo at all today, and to me that is a bad sign.....it has been 2 days since urine reports.
Maybe they should run some water to give her the urge to give them a urine sample....... lol
works for me:)
she has been practically comatose all day...
CT cam back on, 3 in the nest
Make that 2...
Looks like long piece of string or rope in the nest, too.....
spagetti for dinner:)
Who is on the NZ cams now - both eating bamboo our in their dens....
Now the one cam has gone out into the yard... I don't think we areseeing Mei.......
If that is Mei on Cam 1 dragging more bamboo into her den - I think she had to stop and look for a place to put itlol
Taking a break - some family pics to down load on pc........ BBL
I had to come back and share a laugh -Mei is like 'stuck' under all that bamboo and is fighting to get out from under....... lol
Brilliant blues and greens on CT cam
lol.....Mei enough bamboo already...
Howdy Jo Mei was nipple lickin or belly lickin now she is in the corner eating once agin... Now on table i think shedding bamboo pulling it down to the corner in the nest...
Hi ya'll, been a busy beaver today. Running, working, etc. We are never gonna find a cub in all that bamboo if Mei does give us one.
The busy "beaver" was a pun, by the way. Bluefield Beavers!! Getting ready for football season, can't hardly wait. 3 more weeks till the first game.
Hello Nilla! Heard you say you had Jasmin for 3 days and now back to work for a rest - right? lolSorry to have read that you won't be around at Open House BUT happy that you get the Disney trip.Don't know about this Mei gal.SIssy - Mits said we would hear the cub - very noisy little things.
just remember if they think birth is imminent, they will turn off the cams, but will turn them back on asap.
3 osprey and big fish at CT
HAHAAH look at her reminds me of Buta Buta when she was lilttle and had her face in the corner.. Is she lickin ??looks like it
See, I am hoping she sneaks it in on em and we get to see it.
Thats really strange behavior huh Mits.. She is really rubbin her head now... whatcha think Mitssss?? Now is this the room you showed me when i was down there with you where Tai hit the wall when he came out???
Mei Mei What a messy room you haveI hope it happens that way too, Sissy
Bless her little heart. She just looks so precious sitting there. Who is that laid out on the other cam, Tian or Tai?
That is relaxed. That's what I'm talking about when I say I want to be a panda. I want that kind of relaxation in my life.
Snap Crackle & Pop! Didn't realize Bamboo was so crisp!
Yes Jo i had Jazzy the last 3 days and took her to her mother this morning.. She keeps me hoppin for sure.. But i wouldnt have it any other way...She finally got some hair and im able to put lil tiny pony tails on each side in the back.. thats if you can get her to hold still long enough..lol
yes, Nilla, it is off to the side of the middle den......I'm hoping that too, but she isn't doing anything out of the ordinary now...just eating....but they did not expect Tai to come when he did, they had assured everyone on the night watch, her levels had not come down, and even when the cam operator called them repeatedly, they did not believe her.
Sissy - Will you and Tom be up at the lake or over with his mom thisweekend. Keeping her in my prayers. Was good to see you said that shewas ready. That is a blessing.
think there might be a storm in CT
osprey seem to be trying to hang onto nest....big fish is gone, could not have eaten it that fast, maybe blew out of nest
Mei is eating old sugar cane now
Nilla - I have a new one but Elizabeth is in Germany. Get to see her daily on my web cam - just makes me want to hold her all the more.I may not get to do that until June2009~ :(I should get a new little local yocal come January. Over in Hedgesville! I will have my hands on that one for sure.
I was just about to ask you what that was, Mits.
MITS 8-8-08 report is up on the NZoo page now........
Now you tell me how they lost her urine sample.... Oh My!
Someone needs to develope a pregnancy test for pandas!!!! Thats right Mits poor Tai shot out like a cannon ball BOOMMMM .. guess thats why he is lil goofy at times..
Helen, just wondering....how long a shift do cam operators/watchers work? Is there only one person or two? What happens if only one and he/she falls asleep and misses a birth?????
Oh Jo i dont know how you do it not seeing Elizabeth i love that name too.. This technology is wonderful isnt it with web cams.... Well if Hedgesville baby is due will she go to City Hospitol?? I had no idea you had family so close...
oh for Pete's sake...been waiting for the urine sample.....August 8According to Chinese culture, today is a very lucky day.We are all excited about the start of the Olympic games. It would be wonderful if some luck was directed at a certain panda den. Mei Xiang continues to cradle her Kong toy and do some intermittent ano-genital licking. Overnight there was a total 43 minutes of cradling. There were only brief episodes of paw licking and nest building. Mei did some ano-genital licking for a total of 18 minutes overnight and this morning. The longest bout was nine minutes. We collected one urine sample this morning, but it didn't make it to the facility where we conduct these analyses, so there will be no results for today. Mei has not provided any more urine samples.
I'm just hoping the person that was taking it, did not have an accident or anything....
Hedgie those cameras down there look very complicated to me when i saw them remember Mits we watched them from the hall... Mei is very restless walking out of den now .. up on rocks...
usually just a 3 hour watch and only one person, sometimes that one person will do a double shift...there is a timer right now that goes off every 5 minutes, for us to record what and if anything is going on.....on a mother cub watch that timer will go off every minute, can get really busy on a day shift.
Get abucket she might pee!!! Ewwwww nope
Tom has to work all weekend, Saturday and Sunday. His brother put his mom in a nursing home yesterday, so we are up in the air about that. We were going to go to the lake Sunday but it is not looking too promising.
The nursing home is supposed to be for rehab, so we will see. Keep us in your prayers (pray that we don't kill somebody~!)
Sissy - sounds as though some member of the family did something withouthaving a Family Conference. Don't dwell on it too much - vent & then let it go... Just take care of Mom.Prayers are with you because I feel the emotions of what you are going through.
Heading home, catch ya'll later.
It's a beautiful day for yard work Paula! Suppose to really cool down this evening......
there are 40 plus cams to work....Sissy, sorry to hear about your M-I-L
did she just vocal???
yeah Mits looks like a Nasa Space panel..
It is time to get some dinner on the table........ BBL
God is in charge and we will still take good care of her. Just change, I don't do well with change sometimes.
change doesn't bother me, like it sometimes, but this is huge for all of you...just one day at a time.
Opening cermony's for Olympics tonight at 7:30pm on NBC ..i just love to watch the swiming and gymnastics
I'm just glad Mei is not an elephant..
Thanks for cam info, Nilla and Helen.Jo, another baby coming! Congrats. Don't forget to visit me when you come to H'ville!Sissy, sorry about the turmoil your family is going through. Sometimes change is good, but sudden change throws me for a loop. Prayers are with you all and your MIL.
Lots of lickin going on in the birthing den!!!
Where did the birthing den cam go??
Mei is back on Cam 1
Cam 2 is in color!! Never saw that before!
Mei apparently went out...cam 1 showed her re-entering den.
Me thinks that Mei is a contortionist!
she was out on the rocks for awile...
she is on her head:)
Standing on her head, rolling over and all around.....is she maybe in PAIN??
Nibbling, but not in a concentrated way.
Very restless dontcha think??? cant get comfortable
hard to say how much pain a 250lb giant panda could having birthing a 4 to 5 oz. cub, at least that is what my sister says:)
Butt Scratch on the rocks... Oh Mits wouldnt it be great if she gave birth on Maggies birthday!!!!!
She is peeing!!!!!!!!!!!!
Catch that urine!!!She looks restless, breathing a bit rapidly....?????
I'd be happy if she did it before midnight tonight...8/8/08
No sign of Frodo or Frieda on cam neither... Ut Oh she wants out side at the door...screen back to color...back on rocks
Wouldn't that be awesome, Mits??
yeah good things happen on 8/8/08 and i got a divorce on 8/8/88...lol
yes it would be great....here is today's Atlanta update.....Friday, August 8Lun Lun has shown the first signs of entering into the next phase of what could be a pregnancy or pseudopregnancy. This morning when I arrived in the giant panda building, I found her sleeping, which is extremely unusual for her. Usually she is the one who is waiting up for us when we come in the building at 7 a.m. After eating her morning fruit and leafeater biscuits, she would not shift out into the day rooms. After walking away for five minutes, I returned to find her fast asleep in one of her dens. This behavior is also unusual because the pandas will only fall asleep in the late morning after eating a fresh batch of bamboo. Lun Lun slept in this morning until about 11 a.m., and then woke up and started to finally eat. If this pattern continues, we should see signs of decreased activity and decreased appetite for the next few weeks. These behaviors are normal and expected, but at this time, we still have no way of knowing whether or not Lun Lun is pregnant. While we’re very optimistic, it’s still important to remember that giant panda pseudopregnancy mimics pregnancy so closely that there’s no way to know for sure which condition Lun Lun is currently experiencing. Cross your fingers and stay tuned!Lynn CulverSeasonal Keeper, Carnivores
I hope that was a good thing, Nilla!!Is that rain?? I haven't been to the zoo is S-O-O-O many years....is outdoors really completely outdoors?
I'm surprised they is still a keeper there
Interesting noises...alarms? Feeding time at the zoo?? Mei sat at door as if expecting company!
Awww...please come see me...
they may be trying to retieve a urine sample if it is in the other room...she has access to 2 big dens and the 2 little dens
i heard a door close... She just doent look well...Oh they closed the other room off... So she has to stay in birthing den side.. Good sign Mits??????????
no alarms just the doors
There's that bird!Ray Charles dancing.Does she want OUT or a TREAT?
Did you see that?? She opened the window on the door!! So smart.
sounds like they are just cleaning the other den, and probably replenishing her bamboo
She just made some huffin noises and flopped down on rocks
she is probably wondering why the keepers are still there....
when they took Tai from her for his 1st checkup, she tried to climb thru that little window, Lynn
I can hear Ray Charles!Hedgie that is what we say when Mei dances back & forth at the window..(Inside Joke)
Ray Charles again she wants out.. Remeber lil Tai wanting to look out and climbing up on her back to see out the window... so cute
I SEE PEEMaybe that is why the keepers are still there???
well there is a nice urine sample
She has been resting up over Tai's cubby hole just like he use to do and give us a heart attack..lol
could be, now they would have to get her out of that den again
EAGLE IN OUR NEST.......
LOOKS LIKE LIB
I think I'll take a break while Mei does.
No Break with LIBERTY IN THE NEST
Could we be so lucky today of all days and see one or two or threejuvies????? Yepper - all at one time!
Mei is not happy
EAGLE STILL THERE.
She picked up her kong toy the other day and threw it against the wall
sh is going to fall down and go boom
Yep! Mei is climbing the walls. But then we all know her disposition.
OMGOsh eagle in our nest!!
hyper little bear tonight:)
it would be really funny if a cub came shooting out when they least expected it
Still cam not refreshing for me...still says 6:33...is Lib still there? You all teach me so much! Since I wasn't "in" for last panda birth, there's alot I don't know!
He's still there Hedgie, at 6.37.06, cam time
Right click on the black and refresh
Lynn, I didn't start watching the pandas til Tai's birth, when cams where on 24 hours after he was born
Opps at Mei!!!!! Please dont turn off cam!!!!
At what, Nilla?
You mean Liberty, Nilla?
I did that, Paula...no luck. Went out and came back in and it was up to 6:38...still there then!Is this ano-genital licking?? She seems very interested in the nether region!
Lib still there
Lib seems to be enjoying the sunshine on his face!
OMG!! I finally got to see Lib. He is so beautiful. Blogger cop won't let me post, I have tried a zillion times.
There you all are. Didn't think I was going to get on ever.
Mei sleeping...eagle gone
Blogger cop is on duty...Lib flew out at 7:15 pm
don't know how Mei doesn't get dizzy with her head hanging over the edge like that
In Bluefield-hope everyone is having a good evening.
any eagles today-besides this morning?
Lib was at the nest awhile around 7 pm... Is Bluefield close to Taswell?
Trying to see if Blogger Cop is going to leave me alone...........
So I am now good to go for awhile BBL Phone Call
Is the den camera infrared? Mei looks like she's trying to block light out of her eye!!!
it must be Lynn, because it is dark in those side dens during the day, but she really likes to throw her arm over her eyes
Nilla, I think Tazewell,VA is only about 25 mi. from Bluefield.
That's good, Helen...would hate to think that she is exposed to light all night; then she would really know she's on display and being watched! LOL.
the gal knows how to eat and sleep
she is running out of time to give birth on the lucky date.
split is here..
