Thanks Red and Steve!! I sure do hope to see an eaglet today!!
Well, good morning, Sis. Fancy meeting you here. Thanks Steve!!
Been a long time since I saw an eagle in the nest.
Good Morning eagle-eyed sharon andeagle-eyes sissy, I hope yourweekend was a good one.I took morephotos at the watershed yesterdayof the eagles and a young deer.Indiana Nesting Eagles----Dave
Good morning Dave. Where are the pics you took?
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE...We had some very late and very early bloggers. Robyn told us that she has been to Sturgis in her Biker days and Deb told us that she had just gotten back from Sturgis. Helen got up in the middle of the night to watch the boats take off from the inlet. I'll bet she's sleeping now. Margy worked all night and must surely be sleeping. Our Bluefield sisters seem to be the only ones awake right now.
Good Morning, Dave....Will check out your photos now...
I can't find your photos either, Dave...couldn't find the last ones, either. I have tried to leave comments on some of your photos, but can't do that either.
Click on the eagle and that willopen my blog.I just posted moreon the eagles 2008 and on indianawildlife Dave
Good morning everyone. Back from coffee and dog treats. We have some oppressive heat and humidity coming in today followed by storms. Gonna be testing out the new line connections I guess. Hope they hold. Meanwhile about 80 % of the downed trees and branches remain on the curbs waiting for their turn to be picked up. Wonder where all those limbs will be in the morning. I think our eaglets have taken their performance to new heights and distant lands. Sure wish all three of them well and long lives.
Morning, friends.Hope you are having a super Monday!
Good Morning Glo and Paula...We are having a beautiful morniing here...it is 71°, but not for long. It is going up to 91°.
GOOD MONDAY A.M. EVERYONE!!
Don't know why they have not changed the updates on the panda page, still on August 1st, I have received the August 2nd and 3rd reports, and basically nothing has changed, been waiting for the results of the all important urine sample, they have 2 from yesterday, but someone has to take them to Front Royal,VA
GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE IN THE LAND OF THE AMERICAN EAGLE.C(°ﮡ°)DJim
Mei is eating and Tai is sleeping on his grate
all that eating has exhausted Mei.
Good Monday morning Helen, Jim, Paula, Wanda, Glo Indiana Dave, Sharon and Sissy. Just finished reading Saturday and Sunday blogs to try to catch up a little. TWO WEEKS FROM TODAY, I HAVE TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL, AND HAVE HARDLY BEEN ON HERE. :( :( :(
DAVE You have some lovely pics on your site. You are sooooooo lucky to be able to watch so close. If I could do it, I would probably just sit all day watching.
Good Late Morning All My Eagle BuddiesI need to read earlier comments but thanks Wanda for the update! Glad Deb is home safely now. She & Robyn may have some good times to share.I have to agree with you Glo that our Eagle Family is flying up into the thermals to unknown heights.I thought I saw them yesterday while traveling on RT 70 westward but it turned out to be 2 beautiful red tail hawks soaring.
WANDA I was sorry to read about your MOM not feeling well and hope she is feeling a little better today. That was one big dinner she age!
Birdie, from the Tesoro nest was last reported in Maryland on 7/25/08!! She was just north of the Patuxent... Map
Howdy Candy, Jim and Mits and Sissy and Sharon! And Dave and Wanda and Jo and Glo!
HELEN, I see we are still waiting on word about Mei and that our little ZZ out in SD Zoo celebrated her first birthday. It doesn't seem that it has been a year since she was born.
My panda cams are down. Anyone else's?
Good morning JO. Happy Monday!PAULA Birdie is really doing a lot of exploring on his first trip north. It is really neat to see all the places he has explored. Thanks for the tip.
got em, had to restart by browser.
Glad you got them, Sissy, Mei is paw licking and Tai is sleeping
ok Sissy Both of mine are up too.It took a while to connect
cool news, Paula, maybe Loretta can be on the lookout
Candy I'm sure your summer has seemed to slip away! What is the wedding date for your son?
hAHAHA. Mema Jo, I can't tell you how many times I've been up in the mountains in So Cal keeping one eye open for eagles, which are reported to be there at times, thinking I've got one in sight finally ... and after tracking it with the binoculars for a long time, it turns out to be a large female Red-tailed Hawk.C(°ﮡ°)DJim
Dave I just viewed your newest pictures - I love the one with the Juvie perched on the overturned boat! S/he has grown full size unless that is a very small boat with which to compare her/his size.
Josh will be getting married on Oct. 5th in the late afternoon. It has been fun having him home again, Thanks for asking.I wished I had a larger family at times when I read about all your family gatherings.
Jim Until they come down closer to you - it is hard not to see that there isn't a White Tail or Head! I was disappointed to say the least..
Well, @%#@^. Now I can't get on the Atlanta panda cam. I am sure it is probably operator error (me).
Sissy have not been able to get on that one at all today
It looks like both DC Zoo cams have sleeping Pandas on them. Must be Panda Nap time!
Tai just got a good long misting!Mei still on Cam 1 and resting.Asia Trail looks like the visitors are at the zoo today.
ATLANTA'S AUGUST 1ST UPDATE Friday, August 1Not much has changed at the panda building the last couple of days. Lun Lun continues to have a voracious appetite and has yet to show any signs of slowing down. Yang Yang and Mei Lan are happily eating Yellow Groove and Henon leaves in between naps. Everyone is maintaining weight very well; Lun Lun is around 104 kgs. (230 lbs.), Yang Yang is around 125 kgs. (275 lbs.) and Mei Lan is around 50 kgs. (110 lbs.). Giant Pandas tend to drop a bit of weight for the summer, especially the males. Males bulk up for the springtime breeding season to impress the females, then spend more time resting in the summer, so they lose some weight. As you are now aware, summer is birthing season for the females. Once the time to give birth draws near, the females will seclude themselves in a den and wait for the arrival of the cub. During this time, they eat very little or stop eating entirely, so they also lose weight. When Mei Lan was born in 2006, Lun Lun did not eat or drink for several days. As Rebecca mentioned yesterday, we expect Lun Lun to slow down any day now, but Lun Lun likes to do things in her own time, so we continue to wait...Heather Baker RobertsKeeper I, Carnivore Department
I've checked the weather for Wednesday at the zoo.....yuck is the word that comes to mind...long day there that day....shift and meeting
The two Hobbies are sleeping and the Panda at Atlanta is devouring his food as fast as he can.
I am sure I was just able to see one of the Flamingo chicks. He just got pecked on the head by an adult..Legs are getting long but his neck hasn't stretched out too far yet.The ferret baby boy is getting pretty large. The way he lays to sleep over his mom won't last much longer.
Tai is inside with treats
Has anyone seen Froda or Frieda yet? When I have been checking in the ledge is always MT.
It finally looks like Tai has had enought play and is a tired out Panda.
Hello all- just wanted to say hi- too busy to chat much lately. Please add this young man to your prayer lists. His parents own a catering business and music shops in the Shepherdstown area. He was in a serious auto accident July 23-please send your positive thoughts and vibes his way- great famliy, very talented son- here is his website which has the whole story if you are intersted. Mason Ellsworth
Baby Hobies are stirring, Atlanta Panda is still chewing away on his food, DC Pandas napping, ecept Mei. The flamingos look like it is nap time there. It must be one of those hot and humid days again today.
Hey MEGAN. Sorry to hear about Mason, and will surely add him to my prayer list. His family will also be in my prayers. What a horrible thing to have to go through.
There is a panda at DC Zoo now having his midday snack.Holy cow, the flamingos just converged or woke up. Scads of them, all in motion. It looks like a party.
Guess I had better get some lunch and check my email. Later gator.
August 3As I write, Mei Xiang has returned to her den for the first time since getting up this morning. She is buried in her nest, partially covered with hay and bamboo, and dining in repose. This morning Mei was very active, getting up when called, and standing up to take a bag of leaf-eater biscuits through the window in the den door. After an ultrasound and with a full belly, she spent the rest of the day asleep in exhibit three, on the rocks.Mei continues to show maternal behaviors. Overnight, she did eight minutes of paw licking, three minutes of nest building, two minutes of nipple licking, and five minutes of cradling (just her Kong toy this time). Unlike previous nights, she was active at 7:56 and 11:30 p.m., then slept until 5 a.m. She produced two urine samples during the day today, at 1 and 3 p.m.August 2Mei Xiang was up at the window in the door this morning when she heard the keeper had arrived. She was ready for an ultrasound but was quite jumpy once she was lying in the training cage. Her uterus is still enlarged but nothing significant has appeared. Mei kept sniffing around the training cage, making us wonder if a little intruder had come through recently. This must be the year of the chipmunk at the Zoo. There are chipmunks zipping around everywhere. There is such delight in the voices of young and old, as they exclaim, "Look, a chipmunk!" It is not unusual to see visitors, both local and from afar, peering into the bushes trying to get another look at the little brown essence of busy that just darted across the path in front of them. One of our resident chipmunks has discovered that the panda runway between the yards is also its personal pathway. As one keeper described it: "It zips down the runway over thresholds, through the openings in the mesh doors, and around corners like it is running its own agility course."Mei Xiang is far from busy. She is spending most of her time sleeping. There were some moments of pregnancy behavior, mostly nest building and paw licking. She also cradled all forms of a surrogate cub—the drain grate, her Kong toy, and even the log. She indicated that she wanted to go outside at 2 p.m. and was given access to the patio, where she sat and ate all of her produce. She produced two urine samples today, at 7:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m.
Mei is resting and Tai is eating bamboo....off to Lewes, Delaware for lunch and some more birthday shopping, have nail appt. late in day, so will probably be back on tonight

Good Morning Sharon, Sissy, Red, Ind. Dave, Wanda, Glo, Paula, Mits, Candy, Jo, Jim, Megan, and Nature and anyone I missed.Been away from computer lots of family stuff and illness. For some it's just a short time and peace till end. Those types of prayers would help.
Hello Dana. Have missed you.Prayers for Mason's recovery.Just finished up a Germany cam call. All my girls were on it!
There's a close-up of ZZ, who's one year old now, sleeping all the partying off this morning.C(°ﮡ°)DJim
Both families at this time are using Hospice. Plus family is helping.
Dana, prayers for peace for everybody concerned.
Good afternoon, everyone. I slept in late today, it was a long day yesterday. I had a good time in Sturgis and will get my pictures done sometime today. I need to go get my dogs from the kennel, start laundry, etc. When I go get the dogs, I will be looking for 20 osprey chicks that were released at Yankton. They are hoping they will make the area their home. How exciting! I saw them building the tower last week and wondered what was going on.
Good Morning Deb sure hope in your travels in area you see the Osprey.
It is time for me to get moving todayBBL
WELCOME HOME DEBTalk with you later and am anxious to see all the pictures from your trip. We tried to find you on the cam but to no avail! lol
It was nuts there. If I could have gotten to a computer, I would have let you know when I was there. I did see all the cams and waved when I went under them! Off to unload the pick-up.
Deb, was bike week last week or this week? I friend of mine is there now and I thought she said it started this past weekend. They traveled from Henderson, KY to go.
I see Big Brown redeemed himself as a champion yesterday by a hard-run, come-from-behind stretch charge to win the Haskell. If Norma's around, somebody tell her.C(°ﮡ°)DJim
The official start to the rally is today. It has turned into a three week event, though. Concerts and activities all started last week, but all the special rides, races and competitions will be this week.
The way Mei is sitting there, she looks like she is pouting because they didn't let her out.
Oh, okay Deb, thanks for the info. When she told me that is where she was, I told her I had a friend there. How far do you live from Sturgis?
What is Mei licking?
Looks like a fruitcicle.
Nuttin in our nest...
I am about 400 miles away, but I didn't take a direct route either way. I did side trips to avoid the interstate. I wish I had skipped the Badlands, though, traffic was heavy.
Off to get dogs and see if I can find some osprey. I may have to go earlier in the day though.
Sissy Kenny Chesney has a concert there Wed. August 6th.
Deb, I bet that is going to be a good show. I didn't use to like him, still don't care to look at him but love his music.
I like his music too Sissy not much to look at. Surely sings with a great voice though ( :
Megan, Mason is at a good hospital. Shock Trauma was one of the first critical trauma centers. Prayers that he will recover quickly.
Sorry Dana, called you Deb. Half here today.
No problem Sissy ( :Megan prayers already were sent for Mason, Family and friends.
I am trying to catch up on 83 emails....grin..
Cracking up at the video of Mei Lan.....she is a riot!!!
I want to thank those that read my comment and sent prayers "for a peaceful ending"...We just got a call that the one just pasted on "to walk with the LORD". Thank you for those "PRAYERS"..Now if you could just pray for the mother, brothers and sisters, family and friends. I would appreciate it very much.
Sorry to hear your family is going through all that Dana. Will keep them in my thoughts.
Thank you Paula. The eagle blog has always been a very special place. I am surprised though that God worked so fast...Talk about a "MIRACLE" it truly is God's hand reaching down. To end the suffering for a person. The bible does say, "Ask and you shall receive"..
Frodo Blog/John Grey

A few little eagles on OUR NEST on their knees in prayer would be an inspiring image, wouldn't it !!!One has to wonder if Liberty, Belle and their children realize how powerful their presence is in our lives, holding us all together in their own special way. xo
Good early evening to all.Prayers for your family members, Dana...hope the passing was peaceful, and that the family is also now at peace. Prayers for Mason, too, Megan. Was wondering where you were, Dana!Interesting article in the paper over the weekend about Dr. R Adam Cowley and Baltimore Shock Trauma..the first such facility.Sturgis streets look like bikes are at least 3 deep!! Had to take SIL to VA Center this am--too early...y-a-w-n!! Think I better go get something to eat to try to stay awake...I know, what an excuse!
Hi Eagle Buds, Just got back from appts. Saw news & trop. storm Edouard should hit land at 12N TU. Will probably land Houston, Galveston area! Lolly will have a fit after all their planning. Officials in Galveston said NO evac. plans unless it becomes hurricane which is unlikely. So they will prob. have wind, rain & maybe power outages. Dana, thoughts & prayers for your family members--so sorry.Deb, glad to see you back from bikerville!! How great to get ospreys!!!
Magpie, I truly think our eagles know - our spirits touch their spirits!
I just wrestled Dustin and got the mouse away from him! LOLHe is doing well...130 lbs. Still needs some meat on his bones. He wants to go home again and see his Momma tomorrow, so I will have an "Empty Nest" again.GEEGEE feels much better today. She got a call from the doctor's office and they told her that her CT scan showed no cancer, ulcers or any abnormalities. Hooray!!!!Thank you for your concern.
Great News Wanda, regarding Gee Gee and the doctor CT report! What a chub, up from 118 pounds, that Dustin! SHARON: I agree with you, great way to put it!Off to see the grandson, change of clothes packed...gotta make water balloons every chance we get...Good Evening to All...xoxoxo
It is official, Buddy is a male!
UPDATE: August 4 2008, 8:00amby Dr. Natalie HallThis weekend the eagle has been doing well. He was sore from his beak dremmeling, so on Saturday morning he was reluctant to eat and had to be force-fed his morning meal. However, we increased the dose of his pain medication, and he ate well the rest of the day.Yesterday (Sunday) he was eating well on his own and seemed very comfortable without any additional pain medications. He is now hopping from perch to perch, balancing himself as needed with his wings. We are happy to see him beginning to use his wings more and moving around freely in his enclosure.
I went and checked on the osprey chicks. They are all still in the hacking tower. There were two ladies there watching and they had heard a rumor that they were releasing the osprey today. We spoke to the man feeding the chicks and he said 5 would be released tomorrow, then 5 more the next day, etc. The ladies wanted to know exactly when they would open the doors so they would be there to see them all fly off. I told them they might not leave right away, but they didn't believe me. When they asked the man watching over them, he told them the same thing I had and that he didn't know when they might fly off. He, also, told them they would be around at least a couple of weeks. I wouldn't have known about hacking towers if I hadn't learned about them on this site.
My dinner is over early - so let the evening begin!Dana - Peace to you and to the families experiencing these last moments with loved ones.I have checked our nest soooooooomany times today just wishing & praying to see some feathered friends. When Frodo & Frieda come to the ledge and panda cubs may be born - you realize our season is over for awhile. Vacation time for Liberty & Belle and the young eaglets need to stretch their wings to new horizons. Fly High Guys!
Hi Everyone, we were away most of the weekend, and just got caught up! Dana, prayers for your family members - so difficult to go through, but with God's grace and love they will get through it!Megan, thanks for letting us know about Mason, I will add him and his family to my prayers.Naturenut, will pray for Sienna's Family and friends too.Wanda, wonderful news about Gee-Gee,(that's what my grandchildren called my mother), glad she is feeling better too!
YOU GO BUDDY BOY!Thanks Deb for all the info on BuddyI really missed you because you keep us all up-to-date on everything! LOLLY Edouard is coming at you. You & the family stay safe - prayers for being said! Wanda Happy to hear that GeeGee is doing better. Hope that any discomfort has left her! She has a few days to get herself ready for another feast!!!
Looks as though Mei is sleeping on Cam2 in the birthing den (I think)Must be Tai on Cam1 with his head in the bamboo taking a snoozeI have an errand to run. Partick has sent a 'please send me' list and I'm sure I can find some things to shipBBL
DANA, as I was reading about the illness and death of one of your family members, and what you said about God reaching his hand down and ending the suffering, brought back to my mind, the death of my father. He was in a nursing home and under the care of Hospice. We knew the end was near, but it was taking too long, in my mind. My Mom and I went to be with him early one morning and he was unresponsive with his eyes open, but not seeing. I held his hand for hours and at one point, I put the blanket over his shoulder so he wouldn't be cold and felt nothing but skin and bones where a big, strong arm used to be. I put my head down on his arm and prayed out to God to let him go and end his suffering. At that exact moment, Dad squeezed my hand and then let go and his pain and suffering ended. That was the greatest prayer that I have ever had answered.Prayers for you and your family.
Loretta, too bad about Sienna...she is now at peace, too.Wanda, I know what a sad but beautiful moment that was with your dad. I never stop missing mine, but know that he is where he belongs..with our Lord with no more pain or suffering.Hi Glo and Iris...think I missed you!BErkeley Co. folks...been looking at the proposed routes for Allegheny's new high-tension lines. Go to: www.pathtransmission.comIt's a pdf document/download.
Maybe I'll be able to stop in tomorrow....night friends
I'm thinking that both Panda cams are on Mei in her birthing den with bamboo all around. Helen said she wouldn't be back until late today sohere is today's update:August 4Mei Xiang continues to show some pregnancy behaviors and completely baffle us with her alert and active demeanor when awake. Log cuddling, chewing, and shredding seemed to be her preferred activity last night and this morning. She was busy with this activity for 42 minutes, beginning at 1:26 a.m., for 18 minutes at about 6 a.m., and for another seven minutes a couple of hours later. The next most frequent behavior was paw licking, for a total of 20 minutes over five episodes. Mei cradled her Kong toy only briefly. Mei was very active and interactive with the keepers when she was awake. She slept from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. When she woke up, she ate bamboo for an hour. She also ate a fruitcicle today. No urine had been produced as of 3 p.m.
Glad you were here today, Dana. Take care of you & Ed! ((hugs))
Both panda cams showing same scene -GOOD! Now I don't have to keep switching.. Mei has laid down under all the bamboo in her birthing den.It is so very pleasant weather wise outside right now. We were sitting out on the deck. If there would have been just the slightest breeze, we would have stayed out there longer.
I would think that if Mei were pregnant, she would be showing more and more signs of pregnancy, but it sounds like she is showing less and less. I sure hope I'm wrong! I keep remembering how much we enjoyed Squiggles (ZZ) and we would think of Mei's baby as "our own". I wasn't on here when Tai was born.
Eagles Eagles Where are you now?Are you out getting some chow?Eagles EaglesWhen will you come home?Momsters have the MT nest syndrome! Don't believe I did that.. tee heeWell it does rhyme! And I do miss them! lol
Wanda I wasn't here for the begining of Tai - I was though for ButaButaand ZZ. Another one would be nice to have around. I really liked the coverage from Atlanta cam. The SD zoo cam is soooooooo dark!
Wanda - Thinking ahead-- Are you going to get granddaughter or someone to mind the shop so you can come to lunch during Open House like last year?
Oh, yes, Jo. I wouldn't miss it!!
JIM, you softie!! You are a poet!
San Diego is dark...I stopped watching ZZ a long time ago. It was so disappointing to have darkness every time we tried to see ZZ, that I gave up. I will take a peek when Jim alerts us to something.
HELLO, just got home around 8...fixing dinner now...TTUL, prayers for all of your friends and family....Megan, Shock Trauma is the tops!!!!
THANKS, JO FOR PUTTING UP TODAY'S UPDATE ON MEI....HERE ARE THE LASTEST URINE REPORTS.......August 4We have collected and analyzed five samples produced between 1 p.m. yesterday and 6:32 this morning. The progestin concentrations range from 27.2 to 33.3ng/mg Cr. The three additional samples collected yesterday provided a mean progestin value of about 32 ng/mg Cr. The two samples collected today had a mean progestin concentration of about 29 ng/mg Cr. The progestin concentrations the past couple of days are the lowest since the onset of the secondary rise began in mid-June. Although lower than samples collected just a few days ago, these latest data are still slightly higher than the baseline range pf progestin values, so additional analyses will be needed to conclude an end to the luteal phase.I AM THINKING THE END IS NEAR
Anybody home. ?????
I'm too tired to work any more tonight. got my closet and bedroom done. Just dressers and makeup tabe to do in the morning. I give up for tonight.
ok, I'll go to bed...
Hi Anne Marie...Good night Anne Marie!!Helen...what did you think of the show last night? Do our pandas make that much noise? The two males sounded fierce, and some sounds were almost like colts!! Country looks so rugged, and bleak. Sure didn't look like very much bamboo available. Sad.
Hi Anne. I'm here, been catching up on what I missed. I worked late, came home and watered, just stepped inside 10 min ago...Missed the ISS, but not the pretty crescent moon.
LOL Wanda - that was Jo's poem. She fooled you with those bold letters!
Doesn't sound like we're gonna have a new panda in DC this year
AML...sorry we weren't chatting when you came on. We've not been very chatty today. Are you getting your affairs with the unemployment office straightened out? You should be able to collect a check for nearly a year. I hope it works out that way for you.
Anne - I take it your company has left and was it Disney where they were headed.Norma's company should also be leaving soon or may have already.
Paula, that'll teach me to double check post's author. I think I did that once before, not long ago.
yes Lynn saw most of it, fell asleep right before the end....pandas can be very vocal and if we have a cub it is very noisy, because it is blind and hairless, so it is usually cold and hungry
Cute, Jo. I am disappointed that it wasn't JIM'S poem. I thought he was getting a softer side.
Helen, do you ever wish you could go out with the boats as you are watching them?
yes Wanda, I do, but if I went out the 20 or 30 miles they go, I want to be in a big 65+ plus foot boat, and don't no anyone who has one:)....GOT SOME THINGS TO DO BEFORE I LEAVE TOMORROW, SO, GOODNIGHT EVERYONE don't despair yet, we still have a chance for a panda, she still is in the luteal phase, but not much longer
Good Night MitsNo Frodo or Frieda tonight! Guess Anne went on to bed...Guess Margie is napping before work..Guess I am about ready to say Good Night in a little while...
Hi Eagle Buds,Just getting back from water balloons and squirt gun fun in Morgan County. Made sure the grandson saw the Moon, his comment:"It's Empty." Ha! Compared to the full moon we watched three weeks ago, he's got it right! Saw ISS - just exactly right on time. It was nice and bright again, like Jupiter, and I lost it in either the clouds, or it did what it has done before, lost the angle from the sun. I have to say, it looked like it was a little "DUI" - slowing down, meandering off a straight path, then back to normal again...hmmmm -I have seen that before with the iridium cell phone satellites...crazy crazy..ISS back again Tuesday night, will post the times, angle and directionals tomorrow morning.Tubby Time! I'm soaking wet!xo
I recieved this email from an overseas friend about Finny's nest.YOU ARE WAY BEHIND. Go to the Finnland web site. Click on (in english) then on the X . 3rd chick was attacked in nest by a white tailed eagle on the 3rd of aug. Though I whould let you girls know. Bob
Nope, still up Jo, don't have to go in tonight !! Working days the next three....Whoopee !!Now, for bubbles and scrubs...back in a little while..xo
This is what you get...3.8.2008 White-tailed Eagle attacked the smallest chick 09:09. After a minute the eagle left the nest.
I know usually they have Mei on cam 1 and Tai/Tian on cam 2, but maybe they have been instructed to keep her on both cams, at least she is in the den where we can't see the flashing light.
that is exactly correct, Paula, over in European countries they do the day-month-year, over here we do the month-day year, so the attack was yesterday
Oh, Paula, not good..just opened up the site, one chick there...any idea of condition or injury or anything?
Suzanne had sent pics out today and had included the comments from the'ENGLISH' blog. All 3 chicks were in her pics as far as I can remember. Mits or Deb can you confirm that? All 3 chicks are ok......
I don't know, Magpie. I asked for more info...
The 2 older chick at Finny 2008 site have fledged. I think the one in the nest now is the youngest one.
I asked if that was the 3rd chick in the nest...But I see Mits has confirmed that....I haven't been watching...
LOL, Duh, I'm sure Bob is asleep by now...
Ccol, if you click on Finney's pic, then click on the link on the far right that says 'kuvat', it shows you pics of the cam installation
I am caught up on blog for today, don't know if I will have time to read all the days while I was gone, some were quite long. I am tired even though I slept until 11:00. I still can't believe I slept that late, even with going to bed at 2:30. I guess all the fun wore me out!
Boat Angler Weight Est. Prize White Marlin Fish Whistle Tommy HinkleBerlin, Md. 81.0 $1,300,000.00 RIGHT NOW THIS GUY IS THE LEADER IN THE WHITE MARLIN OPEN....nive chunk of change for a day's worht of fishing if this holds up...4 more days to go
GOOD NIGHT FOR REAL THIS TIME:)
And the 'ringing' (banding), too
Oh, then you have to click on the nest picture...
Good Grief on Finneys. I assume the one in the nest is the youngest since they say other 2 have fledged. Seems to be OK, but hard to tell. I clicked on some of the other graphic icons, but they're mostly ads.
Bob said - Yes it is the 3rd chick. Mite have broken left wing
Deb, you at least have to check out WED.(look for Glo's & Paula's videos) & maybe some of THURS after 12:30. Surprises!!!
Deb - my video is on my blog...and yes, at least read those days...
Read last Weds thread!
Read last Weds. thread at your own risk...lol...
Hitting the hay...maybe we will find out more tomorrow....
You got that right, Megan!Gnite!
Thanks for the update on Finney, Paula. Guess we won't know for sure about the wing - I sure hope not a broken one.
Gotta get off 'puter--early work TU. Maybe I can try to find Finland nest on the retarded 'puter there!Pleasant Feather Dreams ;>))
that's good info, PAULA, great photos too, can see the cold season... thanks...the poor little chick looks downtrodden, hope some of the other chicks come to visit soon. I wonder if there was some food in the nest the Eagle was interested in....
ok had to come back on....YES, DEB, READ THAT DAY...it surely was a first for our blog
Haven't said: WELCOME BACK DEB yet...We had a lot of fun watching the Sturgis cam while you were there...
Night, night all! Hope everyone sleeps well. Blessings to all.
I will go back and read those days. I am going tomorrow morning to see the opening of the first section of the hacking tower. Hopefully one of the osprey chicks will fledge while I am there.
light a candle for Mason Ellsworth
Good to have you back, Deb.GOOD NIGHT EVERYONESLEEP TIGHTPRAYERS FOR ALL
White-tailed eagle, also known as a Sea Eagle...A "close relative to the American Bald Eagle, found mostly in Northern Europe, mostly Norway and has been re-introduced to Scotland..." (took this off a Google site) ----------Thanks for Light A Candle Info for Mason Ellsworth, MEGAN
Just finished up with Wednesday, what a good day you all had! Lot's of laughter and good times. I will save thursday for tomorrow.
...and the Sea Eagle/White-tailed Eagle is the Fourth largest bird in the World..
GREAT SLIDE SHOW, DEB.....LOVED THE OLD WHEEL, THE ABANDONED CABIN, AND EVERYTHING ELSE - ESP THE EAGLES !XO
That was something to see the eagles, totally unexpected. The first one I saw flying, thought it was going to be a hawk, then I thought, that isn't a hawk, its a juvie. I didn't even have my camera turned on. I saw another one when we were in Wyoming, near town of Beulah. The elk were something to see, though, they were so big!
Yah - those Elk looked Huge!Did you see any Magpies?Guess I'd best say good night, working dayshift Tuesday...Take Care and Prayers, All...xo
No magpies, I think the noise keeps a lot of birds hidden during the rally. I am off to bed, too, have to get switched back from mountain to central time. It's only an hour, but goofs me up still.I'll pop in before osprey watching tomorrow.
"Jim Until they come down closer to you - it is hard not to see that there isn't a White Tail or Head! I was disappointed to say the least.."Mema Jo,I didn't tell it too well. While there are Bald Eagles that winter at Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains, we also have Golden Eagles in various regions of the So Cal mountains, and in the cases of mistaken identity I mentioned, it was the Golden variety I was thinking of.The Red-tail was pretty high, but not so high that I would have missed the white head and tail for very long.C(°ﮡ°)DJim
Checked Finland nest before shut down & saw poor baby from side & front. Posted pics on here.
I just opened Frodocam as well as our blog, and I "think" we have a pic of Frieda on the wall at last. She's facing inboard either trying to pick a nesting site on the ledge or waiting for Frodo to mate with her.I've got a pic I'll email to you on my list ... you can send it to others. The bird is not moving a lot so I can make a more positive ID, but I think it's bigger and heavier than Frodo.C(°ﮡ°)DJim
I see what you mean, NN, but I'm not sure if it's injury or sleeping-cooling.I'll keep an eye on it for a while. There was an attack by a White-tailed Eagle a couple of days ago, but I thought it was just an intrusion because it didn't stay long and the eyass didn't look injured.Maybe another attack, maybe not. Also, it could have fledged and hurt its wing....C(°ﮡ°)DJim
I looked at the comments, but I did not see notice of the Update on Buddy, so I'm putting a "bluie link" below... A blood test they sent in to determine the eaglet's sex came back "male," you can read it in the preface.C(°ﮡ°)DJim Buddy's update
Re: The littlest Finny. The mother and all chicks were in the nest earlier, but all are gone now except the littlest one.He changed position, had his head up looking toward the camera; and he still looks alert and has some food in his crop. However, at that angle you can see the tip of the left wing sticks out at a strange angle and is probably broken.I think it will die unless humans in the area intervene.I swear I saw it yesterday after the report of the attack, and I could not see any evidence of it being injured at that time.I don't know if it was attacked again, or what might have happened to cause the injury. His head is down again now. Very sad.C(°ﮡ°)DJim
GOOD NIGHT, EVERYONE...Sweet dreams, sweet tomorrow.C(°ﮡ°)DJim
Finnish chick moved again, and I can see the left wing clearer.I'm afraid it looks as though the bone is broken all the way through near the "shoulder" and the wing is separated and hanging. I can see some of the bone protruding from the shoulder area. The chick's eyes are still bright, but he can't survive without man's intervention.C(°ﮡ°)DJim
And now there is a second bird at the nest, can't tell anymore the adults from the chicks..this is tough situation...Finney's Nest
I think it is the parent, looking around very protectively. Thanks for the pictures, Loretta.xo
'Night, JimI hope the baby has company in the nest throughout its ordeal....'Night again, everyone else...
There is an adult in our nest!
And now an MT nest again! :(
Oh My - Just opened up for the morning, saw an adult in the nest, looked again, gone...did anyone else see it? ...Please come back Eagle Parent !
SHARON - Glad you saw it too...any idea how long it was there? I made myself do a few things before getting on the computer! Whew! What a Vision !xo xo xo xo
Margy, don't know how long it was there but something just told me to look! BEAUTIFUL SIGHT THIS MORNING!I saw ISS last night here in Bedford. I could see it a lot longer here than Bluefield. We are kind of up on a mountain here and not much to block the view like the trees at home.
ISS was nice...did it "disappear" on you, or just fade out of the sky?Did you think it was a little "DUI" - halting, meandering a little? How about the crescent moon!Oh, I am so glad we saw the adult this morning! Been a long time, no Eagles...xo
