GOOD MORNING STEVE...
CAN'T FIND ANYONE THIS MORNING....

Costume Lady said...

Well, Good Morning Megan. Thought I was all alone. Going to be a good day for us gardners.

Hi Wanda:) I'm here but I'm barely moving today, I am worn out- but with the full moon bearing down on us, today is a planting day.

COSTUME LADY: You were just about the last one on last night, and you ARE the first one on this morning, and early enough to see LITTLE EAGLELY. He was snoozin' when I last saw him around 3 AM and I missed him this morning...
Check out the video clips MOVIN posted late last night (well, this morning) - shows how those Wood Ducks climb UP the box to freedom. Maybe we'll see it FOR REAL this morning. Hope your NEW KNEE is good.
GOOD MORNING MEGAN AND

magpie said...

...that is, MEGAN, AND EVERYONE ELSE.

Costume Lady said...

I have never gone by the phases of the moon for planting. My grandparents use to do it religiously and always had a wonderful garden and flowers. Of course, the chicken manure was a big help. LOL I know there is something to the idea, but have always planted when I had time. Maybe I will plant some more peppers today and see if they outdo the ones I planted a while back. Peppers are almost a staple in our house and they are $3.99 lb. in the stores, so I will try more today.

Costume Lady said...

Good Morning Magpie...do you ever get any sleep?

floralgirl said...

Hi Magpie:) Wanda, I do plant by the phasses of the moon when I can, but then sometimes you have to plant when you have the time. But today is definitely a day for me to do some major planting. Need to put more annuals in the ground, and sow sunflowers seeds. So, I'm off to the garden, have a great day evrybody!

Costume Lady said...

Margy...we have a member who works as a magistrate in Martinsburg and she says that when there is a full moon, she is VERY busy. Is it the same at 911 headquarters?

MITS said...

GOOD WEDNESDAY A.M. EVERYONE

magpie said...

MEGAN - You are a powerhouse, and seem to be on the go all the time...I think you and Paula must be sisters!

Wanda - Well, my sleep patterns are a little whacky...if I get up in the middle of the night, I always check the Eagle Cam...and the Blogs...sometimes I nap during the day if I think I might get called in when I am off, but other than that, I am Just VERY DISORGANIZED all the way around.

Seems like everyone on here is busy busy busy, and I think we must have some EAGLE BLOOD in us...

Take Care, Good Day to All.

MITS said...

speaking of our magistrate member, where is Jill?

MITS said...

don't follow NBA, but congrats to the Boston Celtics:)

MITS said...

yes, Steven, any word on what happened to the live-feed???:)

magpie said...

HEY MITS! You make #4 this morning, four girls and a guy (Steve).

COSTUME LADY: We do seem to notice an increase in activity. Sometimes I think people think they are SUPPOSED to be LOONY when they see the full moon...and if it is cloudy and they don't know, then they behave more normally. Sometimes NEW MOON (no moon) affects people too, and that is probably a more "true" biological reaction. But I think full moon does have a true effect on people too...our magistrate member would surely see the effects of bad behavior...a few hours after we do...

UPDATE ON SCOTTISH OSPREY
Read the latest news from the osprey nest...

18 June 2008
Because we’ve been having such a dry spring and summer (so far) the water level on the loch is a bit lower than usual but this doesn’t seem to be affecting our resident ospreys yet.
The chick is still growing at a steady rate; the feathers on its back and wings filling out nicely. It’s still a long way to fledging but we’re getting there. We expect the chick to fledge sometime in mid to late July, whereupon it will hang around close by until ready to migrate in September. For now, our female has taken to standing around the edge of the nest or on the very handy perch just behind, overlooking the loch.
It is not only our ospreys that are doing well; we’ve had a flurry of fledged greenfinch, a sea of siskin and a big band of blue tits all visiting the feeder as well as a fantastic wee family of treecreepers back in May (and yes, they were observed doing “that thing” on a certain BBC nature show where they all huddle together into one big mat!)

normabyrd said...

WANDA----I hope your knee will be like new!!----I was worried about you---Thought you were having a knee replacement!!-----That takes a while!!----GOOD KNEE THOUGHTS FOR YOU TODAY!!!

Costume Lady said...

Thanks, Norma. Gene won't let me try the stairs, so don't know about that yet. He is watching me like a HAWK. Dr. said it would be OK to go about my normal duties today, but Gene suggests giving it one more day. Maybe he's right. I pampered him when he cut his fingers on our trip, so I guess it is my turn. LOL

MITS said...

yes, Wanda, resting one more day and letting the shot take its effect is a good idea.

MITS said...

yep some little wood ducks are starting to appear:)

EAGLET IN NEST---

Lolly said...

Good morning!! So, I get on a couple times late......and earn a facial! Whoa! I am not too sure about this. Jo, Wanda.....I thought I could just sneak by!!LOL Oh, well, will report later how it goes....and I will be careful. Do not want to loose my hair like Paula.

Thanks so much for the wood duck videos. They are great!

We were supposed to have storms this morning...so far nothing. If I am going to work in the yard I better get out early. Not cool here.

I hope everyone has a beautiful day. Keep an eye on the wood ducks.

Lolly said...

Eaglet still in nest.

magpie said...

MOVIN JIM gets A+ for digging up those wood duck videos and posting them...Thanks JIM !

Mema Jo said...

Good Morning Everyone - I see I
missed Norma on this Wed morning!
Those newly hatched wood ducks are popping out from under mama. Like it says on the forum "here today, gone tomorrow" because once they start to leave - they are gone!
I see one in our nest through the colorful lines! I don't think the cam is frozen but it takes so long to refresh that I'm not sure.
Emails are abundant this am! BBILW

paula eagleholic said...

Eaglet is full and resting in the nest

CT osprey chicks are huge!

magpie said...

Yep - I see one basking in the glorious sunlight. Wish I could be on that nest too..and stroke some eaglet feathers.

rebbjess said...

I feel really stupid asking this question, but-where are you guys watching wood ducks?

GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE!!

This is not "tech day" in So Cal... My cable is running at 1/4 speed (or less), and I've had all kinds of herky jerky slowdowns and stoppages. Hope I get through this comment.

I took a peek at the Wood Duck nest, and it definitely appears they are hatching this morning....

No live feed for me either. BW seems to be working, but nobody's there.

Still no news about Buddy ... I wonder if that's good or terrible.

Both Black-Chin Hummers are still on the nest, but I think today is the fledge day...

Have a great day today.

C(°ï®¡°)D

Jim

Costume Lady said...

Thank you, Jim, for the Wood Duck Videos. Love watching those.

magpie said...

Yes, Jim, between you and NATURE NUT, and many others, we have stayed connected with those little Woodies..

On the site for the black chins, there are endless! sites to little videos of different animals, all put together by Audubon. I had a blast last night watching striped skunk, bobcat, cougar, oppossum, bat videos, just a minute or two on each...they are captures from the past, not live streams.

Hope your computer keeps up with you today! Sounds like a TALL order.

Thanks again...

magpie said...

Quick! Ferry boat at Over the Water Finland....

magpie said...

I'm sorry, by the time I posted and refreshed, it had vanished...
the ferry boat....

magpie said...

Wanda..have you tried coming down the steps "bottom first"...I sent you a yahoo...do you have computers upstairs and down?

Costume Lady said...

No I don't Margy, just one upstairs. I am about to go outside and I do have to do a few steps to get there. Gene is in the garden, so he won't see me! LOL

deb said...

Look at all the ducklings!

magpie said...

All right, be careful, baby steps, Wanda.

magpie said...

Baby is working on a Wing Tan....wonder which one it is ...

DEB - those babies are bursting out all over !

Mema Jo said...

Our juvie in the nest is really 'spread out'.

magpie said...

Well, unless one Black Chin is sitting on the other, one has left the nest......

http://www.starrranch.org/stream_bchu.shtml

Can't watch them all at the same time..eagles, ducks, hummingbirds...new life and freedom, that's nice.

paula eagleholic said...

LOL, Deb, those ducklings are popping out just like popcorn

magpie said...

Sharon, I think 13 eggs.....

magpie said...

Wouldn't ya just love to hear all the peeping in that nest box? Especially with the "echo" effect....

magpie said...

MOVIN: down to one black-chin...I didn't see the first one take flight...

deb said...

Yes, it would be fun to watch the process in person.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Our eaglet is on the move!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

And gone. That is a nice water-finder stick they have in the nest!

Mema Jo said...

Good that the juvie is on the move!
I was getting concerned about the late morning napping! Juvie was skipping the fishing lessons I think!

Costume Lady said...

Jo, I thought he looked a little lethargic too. Guess he was enjoying the Old Homeplace and the cool breeze.

magpie said...

I missed the departure..I'm actually TRYING to do some work around the house...
The nest looks like a lumber yard!

Costume Lady said...

A LUMBER YARD...LMBO Magpie.
Maybe they are collecting materials for Mom & Dad for the next brood.

magpie said...

Yes, COSTUME LADY - Ultimate Recycling ....

Just saw another ferry boat zip past in Finland...

Great day to run vinegar thru the coffee pot and throw open the windows to circulate the "aroma" - so that's one project I can accomplish..

Mema Jo said...

Talk about Knee Surgery!!!!
U.S. Open winner Tiger Woods has decided to go ahead with yet another knee surgery, and will miss the rest of the 2008 golf season.
That was a very wise decision!
Now he can devote his time to spoiling that little daughter of his.

NatureNut said...

HELLO Everyone in Cam Land!!! ;>)
Well Mom Wood Duck tricked them, didn't she? Supposed to not leave the nest for about 24 hours when hey're due to hatch, She was out yesterday!!
Thx for EM heads up! I just got on 'puter. Have been watching outside and photographing my LIVE birds here-house wrens in their condo & hummingbirds.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

this hummer cam is just too cool. All I need is another camera to watch!!!

Mema Jo said...

I am not certain - I'll need to look for info - but, Mama Woodsy just may take the babies out of there today.
I have a feeling they have all hatched and are ready to 'Hit the Deck'! I'll try to see when the last clutch fledged

NatureNut said...

BTW, I'm so glad you are doing OK, Wanda. That "New Knee" message really had us going! Couple people I work with had knee surgery earlier this year---doing well--lots of phys. ther.--that's the key.
I was thinkung if you HAD surgery, it's good you put it off til after your reunion!!
Back to checking ducks....

Mema Jo said...

Hi There Naturenut - I am glad you got back on here. Any sighting or update over at the park of the free flying eaglet?

movin said...

Yes, Magpie, one little Hummer has fledged, and the second looks like it could go any minute.

C(°ï®¡°)D

Jim

NatureNut said...

Hi Jo, No. It will be just by chance if anyone spots any of them. I might try checking the nest. But I see from this one that somebody COULD be there , but laying down and not visible from ground. I go back there Sat.

magpie said...

Double E-sissy - you're so right. I watched it so much yesterday I was as twitchy as the birds... !!!

JIM - I bet I miss the second "chin" leaving too....Our "eyes" are spread out all over the place today.

You get high marks for sending us those Wood Duck Video sites! Bravo !

magpie said...

NATURE NUT: always a treat to get your info...

I go back into cam hibernation Thursday during the day for four days because I return to work...so you guys will break from all my magpie-ing.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Hey Jim, did you know you just won a bird poop facial? :)

movin said...

Oooooouuuueeee! Is that better than birds nest soup?

C(°ï®¡°)D

Jim

magpie said...

That hummer is really working its little tongue this morning...rousting stuff out of the nest and trying to catch it I guess...

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

How does the duck get out of that box?

Mema Jo said...

Climbs up the side to the hole and
jumps. So do the little ones.

wvgal_dana said...

Good Afternoon cam friends ( :

Jim loved the wood duck videos ty

Bev prayers for you mother-in-law

Mema Jo said...

I have the poop up cam on but it won't stay On Top so I keep clicking it up to try to catch her leaving.

You can't see the hole on the cam screen. If you have the site up - watch the Video Highlights......

I hope I don't miss anything (probably will) Lunch Time and I
have some things to do that will take me away from the pc.

magpie said...

JO - I'm still laughing !!
You're too much !

wvgal_dana - I'm trying to do laundry too and maybe even vacuum -
I always seem to justify "wildlifing" over "houseworking it" but I'm trying. Just emptied dishes out of the dishwasher clean since Monday! Mostly so I could start loading it up again !

wvgal_dana said...

Good typo Jo lmbo

wvgal_dana said...

Is the black chin hummer I am seeing the parent or the last to fledge?

magpie said...

LYNN - Getting your beauty sleep, huh? I think you have it naturally anyway. I wonder if our paths ever crossed in the ER between 1984 and 2003 when I was running ambulance calls with Hedgesville Fire Department //
Good Morning/Afternoon to you!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

magpie, that is about the only time my dishwasher gets emptied. thought that was just me. glad to know i am not alone. this little hummer is too much fun to watch, wish i had been watching all along.

Costume Lady said...

Hi Dana, Loretta, Deb and all of you late risers...
JIM, you must use your Facial within 24 hrs. or it will turn into it's original form of "Poop Shoot". It is really worth trying, but you must be careful.

Well, Dana, you followed the instructions just right then. I think if you leave it on too long, you might loose your hair. Paula could try putting the facial on her head and maybe her hair will grow back. I'm anxious to hear about Jim's results.

Afternoon, Had a visit from our good friends down from Paw Paw, WV!! They have a tiny screech owl living in a tree hole in their backyard!!
The wood duck has a full house!!
Looks like raining on Finney nest--Mom is covering chicks.
Had Live cam on a couple times---just goes into jiggly lines.:>(
