Hey, Steve,

I know it looks like the live feed is down for a while, but would it be possible to get the sound on the 30 sec. cam?

Or on the black-screened Real Player?

Liberty was in for a bit a couple of minutes ago, so maybe he'll be bringing more breakfast...

Which is what my stomach is telling me I need now.

By the way, Vicky, a second test showed me to be a true Hammerhead Shark!

I see where Margy said a bear was sighted in Marlowe. There was one sighted in the area a year or two ago also.

I'll just be watching doggie alittle more carefully while he is outside.

God made bears too.....like deer...areas get built in..sometimes bears come down from mt. for food or water.

Check out Loretta's, too, Norma. She has quite a few up, already.

deb said...

The only reason I know it is there, Jim, is we talked about it another day. I don't remember who it was that pointed out the time is on the page.

wvgal_dana said...

Boy, I hope they reported the dead female Osprey to the local Conservation group.

The rest of the birds might be at danger from whatever killed the mother.

movin said...

I didn't see it delivered, but it looks like Finny is feeding her chicks something now ... it's almost dark already.

Guess I don't understand the changing light conditions in the far north too well. Not long ago it seemed to be light most of the night there.

Thanks for the pic of our three Mountaineers!

Well, Loretta, you snapped some fine shots yesterday. I enjoyed them very much.

Good to see some pics of Bob (and his camera with the big lens) for a change.

Also great to see Suz out amongst the rays and looking like a real birder.

Let's see what he came up with besides the "teaser" on the foray yesterday.

Lolly said...

Oh no!! I'm gonna miss the party!!

Good morning all! Just getting on for a sec to say hi. Time to get ready for church.

Laurel and the boys are coming this afternoon. In the morning we are all heading for the Houston area. Jack has some "consulting" work to do, I am going to visit with my sister, and Laurel is visiting a college friend. And the work pays for our gas on this trip!! Will be gone until late Thursday!

Mema Jo said...

DANA I've never been able to enlarge the DE osprey cam pic. Let us know if you find a way to do it. Sure has a good clear pic.

deb said...

It doesn't look like any ducklings are hatching so far today.

No I don't know how to enlarge the picture at Delaware.

paula eagleholic said...

On the banding trip, Wendy was the lady w/ the 2 kids...and that is Celeste in the pink shirt. She came w/ her husband, Frank.

Greg said the nest failure rate for ospreys at Jug Bay this year was 50% - quite high. Normally the failure rate is around 15%. They have had problems down there with a great horned owl attacking some of the osprey nests. That is likely the reason for some of the nest failures.

paula eagleholic said...

The storms this spring w/ the high winds and hail were the biggest reason however.

Mema Jo said...

Lolly Does your sister have a computer? OR are we not going to hear from you during the week.......??

movin said...

Yeah, Dana, I don't know how to enlarge the Quicktime player ... it used to be smaller if that's any consolation.

Maybe a Mac user would know....

Or you try transferring it to Real Player. My newest Real Player always exhibits a banner which offers to transfer whatever I'm watching, but I haven't tried it yet.

It looks like an interesting nest (w/sound too), and I just saw Dad deliver a small fish.

paula eagleholic said...

Did you know at Finney's nest if you click on the picture it takes you to the picture gallery?

paula eagleholic said...

You can make the Delaware osprey site larger by opening up the page in your Quicktime player.

Open Quicktime...go to file, open url, and put in the websites address.

http://webcast.delaware.gov:8080/
Cape/Cape-Osprey

Then go to movie and click on double size

movin said...

Thanks, Paula. Very helpful Quicktime advice.

I just had to shut everything down and reload it. I was getting very strange fonts, and the pages were only partly displaying unless sometimes if I changed the size of the window up and down.

I think I got a bad cookie or something when I clicked on the Finny picture to go to the gallery. That's about when it started.

Everything looks normal again now ... after I deleted all the temp files and cookies, etc.

Trivia gleaned from this am's nature shows: San Diego Zoo snatches the flamingo eggs and hatches them in incubators.
The Harris hawks in the desert SW stand on top of each other (as many as 6) to scout for prey because there are so few perches available! Learn something new everyday!

Glad you enjoyed the pics. Can't wait to see Bob's.He and Suz are such great, nice people. I so enjoyed meeting them! Of course, EVERYONE on here is great!
Thx, Paula for giving that PRP osprey info. This has been one of the worst years Greg has seen in about 20.I know I mentioned in the past about our Osprey Cam family. Loss of Mom 2 yrs. in a row & this year chicks, too.
I was so excited to see the eggs in the wood duck box! Better than TX cam! Except we might see these hatching online!!

Wanda...think I heard on the scanner a little while ago that Allegheny was working down there on Gosling Marsh! Question is....how long will it take for Verizon and or Comcast to restore their lines?!!

hedgie said...

More trivia, this time from Marilyn vos Savant in Parade:

An AVADAVAT is a very small weaverbird. (Gotta look that one up!)

And, since we had some discussions about lightening bugs:
"Fireflies (also called lightening bugs)spend a long time developing into adults who only live a few weeks. Many adults don't even eat. Females lay their eggs and most larvae hatch within a month. (Larvae are often called glow worms. So are the wingless females of some species, but they look more like glow beetles.) The larvae feed until fall when they burrow underground for the winter. (Some remain there for two/three years.) They surface in early spring, eat until late spring, and then go thru' their metamorphosis, emerging as adults to light up your yard for a short time in early summer." NOW WE KNOW!!!

Mema Jo said...

For the rest of my days I am going to feel really horrible should I ever squash or injure any lightening bug!
Man! They have a rough life and to think how much joy they give to us when they do turn on their Lights!

Thank you Paula,....spicules! I was trying to remember.
The nest is pretty high and I don't know if they'd stay in---very windy. That may be why they're out.Chirping away in their bush (can't see them which is good-way in there) & have not seen a parent. Hope I don't have to call/take them to wildlife rehab.
BTW, I never smelled anything fishy w/ospreys, but I have allergies.

Good Evening everyone, hubby went home around 3, and I have been doing some odds and ends around the condo, including some panda napping. Heard from Ceil at 4:30p.m. east coast time, they had stopped in Boise, Idaho, she said her throat felt better, but she says she has a terrible cough now, and I gently reminded her that the damn infection was probably in her lungs now...tried not to yell at her.
she saw 2 juvies sitting in a tree, said did not look like they had a fledged yet, and saw 1 juvie flying, not sure where she saw them. It is hot in Boise, 102

Good evening everyone!! Been a busy, busy weekend. Our nephew married his girlfriend of 10 years Friday night (finally!!), had a family reunion yesterday, and a big picnic today!

Been trying to glance over the blog to see what I missed this weekend. I did see the pics from the banding, what a great opportunity.

Norma, I am so glad you survived the storm. We kind of skirted around them all weekend, lucked out for sure. My baby sister is home and I am so grateful.

Anyway, hey everyone!! Be talking to ya this week!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Bed time now! Wore slam out!

NatureNut said...

Well, we're in it now! When outside about 7PM, heard the baby robins chirping. One had come back out in the grass from under the neighbor's bush. As I walked along our fence next to bush, a grey cat came flying out and ran in next door backyard! That is where I heard the other chirping!Peppy had gone under another shrub way back there! We never saw parent in 3-4 hours. They got rescued again and put in large plastic recycling bin. Hubby couldn't find any worms, so he sliced tiny chunks of hot dog which they ate.(Not ideal, but something-all pet stores closed where I could have gotten mealworms)I dug up 2 worms and Peppy ate a couple tiny pieces, but other wouldn't open mouth. I'm saving the worms in fridge for AM.Wrapped towel around inside of bin for a makeshift nest & they are on back of p/up bed cover in carport.Hope bad cat won't find them.
Now I have to eat dinner!!!!

MITS said...

Well, GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE

Welcome back, Sissy. We've missed you all! Big to-do's, huh? Hope you had a great time!
Well, Loretta....wonder what you'll find in the morning?!

Eagle at Kent 1, at the top of the branch hiding. You can just see the back of the eagle.

deb said...

I took my sister to see the heron and pelicans today. We saw more of both and also saw some great egrets, a red headed woodpecker and a bobolink. Things we saw but didn't get pictures of were 2 red-tailed hawks, quite a few turkeys and about a hundred turkey vultures, along with all the ordinary every day birds and a bunch of deer. I have never seen so many turkey vultures at once. I will have to go back and see if they are there all the time.

paula eagleholic said...

Evening, all!

Really got sidetracked...finished the lawn, took a shower, went to grocery store...got home and spent time catching up on the phone, etc. Turn around and it's almost 10:30!!

paula eagleholic said...

Nature- hope your little robins will be OK!

Good to hear from you Sissy...sounds like a nice weekend!

magpie said...

DEB - Sounds like a GREAT field trip with your sister. I really like the coloring on the red-headed woodpecker, and was surprised to see a family in this area two years in a row..have checked the nesting spot this year with no success.. The bold strong color patches, not unlike Towhee and Scarlet Tanager...a friend tells me that other woodpeckers, like the red-bellieds, tend to bully them out of their nesting spots, so maybe, that is what happened this year. Did you get a picture?
I missed all the nest action at NCTC once again, except for some very early morning glimpses, which were nice.
I think those Woodies are about ready to pop out soon..

Good Evening To All...

HEDGIE - I like your new moniker!
You probably saw my posting the other day about one of Kathy's favorite stuffies: Hedgehog named Hedgie! Sweet connection...

To borrow an expression earlier from Sissy: I'm "wore slam out" from the week-end activity at 911.....ENOUGH! Besides the storms, people have to fight and be difficult...

Sounds like everyone had some fun today. COSTUME LADY: Hope you get back to your normal routine soon!

LOLLY - Have a good trip. I have a brother who lived in Houston for years, now is in Connecticut. He likes the weather much better in New England!

deb said...

I did get a couple good pictures of the woodpecker and the bobolink. The heron and egret were so far away, I am going to try again to get closer. I hadn't ever seen a bobolink before, so had to look it up.

DEB - THAT IS SPECTACULAR! the Red-Head! I spend a LOT of time looking at all your pictures!
Friend of mine in New York says bobolinks sometimes make nests in farm fields and then sometimes get overtaken by the farm machinery when farmers are harvesting or cutting hay...I've never seen one "for real".

I guess this is Good Night, it is time for me to sack out.

Thanks everyone for all the education today on the BLOG.

Good Monday Morning, Everyone.

Nest looks empty right now, kind of rainbowy, might have missed some early morning action, just getting on board.

Chicks at Finney's must be eating like horses...they are getting big.

Nice deer at PixController (in and out, saw nice 6-point buck in velvet there Sunday morning..)

Safe travels and stay-at-homes for all.

Work day for me....
