Saturday Afternoon

Just got in and saw the long roll of comments. We all get frustrated when the live feed goes down, and the NCTC folks work hard to keep things going, amongst their other long list of responsibilities... I just spoke to the front desk clerk and the closed circuit feed at NCTC is working, so the eagle guests today can see the live cam on the monitor in the front lobby.

Another note, I live 40 miles from NCTC, so popping in is not an option. :>)

Hot day, new thread.

Steve, thanks for the update on the LiveCam, understand it is a luxury not a necessity. Thanks for all you do for us Eagle Fans. How is the hosue coming along?

magpie said...

Whoa, am I first? - Nope, maybe second though...

I am Speechless !

Just got back from the NCTC visit, time to do a tick check, and then head to church! Stellar day, saw four out of the five eagles, good bit of flying in and flying out, and roosting. Tiny was really flapping those wings. Eagle Express - Saved the day, otherwise, there would have been some bedraggled Eagle fans laid out all over the place, Thanks - Captain and Wanda! - More, later. xo

Thanks for the heads up on the new thread.
Magpie so glad you enjoyed yourself. It is truly and awesome experience that you have had. ( :

glo said...

Thanks for the new thread and communication that the condition of Live Feed is known. Guess I had been told wrong that one of you had a reset button for picture but not sound that could happen from home. No 40 miles would not be a pop in.

OK under tornado warning argh shuttign down computer.

Lolly said...

Thanks Steve for the new thread. Understand perfectly well. Sorry about our belly aching! We are just jealous we are not there.

Magpie....glad you had such a great time.

wvgal_dana said...

I too Glo thought it was John that has a reset button at his home. Well who's on first?

Lolly said...

Looks like two eagles huddled together in the shade.

Lolly said...

Well, apparently the problem is more than a reset or he would have taken care of it.

glo said...

Just needed to know folks were aware and it had at least been looked into. Guess it has or we are wrong about the reset button at someones home.
To the basement now storm is aobut 10 mins away from me I think.

glo said...

Right I do think it is John and Not Steve but no one knows how to contact John I don't think.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Hello all!! I am at the Comfort Inn in Shepherdstown. We saw some awesome eagles flying today. The juvie had to take a couple of tries to get to the nest but it was so awesome to watch. Getting ready now to go to the Clarion for dinner. Wish you all were here.

Lolly said...

Wish we were there too!

Lolly said...

They are just now leaving the nest and heading to dinner. I ordered a big juicy steak!

Lolly said...

Sounds like they had a great day and Wanda and Gene were wonderful to furnish the RV!

NatureNut said...

Hi Everyone!! We figured out a way into the site at work!!YEAH Hope all are having a wonderful day! Will catch up on posts at home soon!!

carolinabeachmom said...

Lolly, you have been bitten by the eagle bug. You are still on here. Since I got off I have read all the sales ads, watched a little tv, talked to my sister and another call from a neighbor, took a shower and received a call from my son, Josh to say he was done work, hitting the beach and will be home for dinner. :)I take it that we didn't have a fledge today from #3.

carolinabeachmom said...

MAGPIE, glad to hear you are safely home and had a wonderful time. Aren't Gene and Wanda and their Eagle Express awsome. Did they have you try an Eagle Talon while you were there? So glad you got to get the experience.

carolinabeachmom said...

Hi Loretta. Did you mean that you got into the live cam that we couldn't get. If so, you were the lucky duck. Hope you had good viewing.

carolinabeachmom said...

Hey Sharon, Thanks so much for thinking of us poor people on the web cam in our homes here, and keeping us in the loop. I bet you did have a great experience out there today. We all had fun on this end trying to see if we could hear you at the nest site and trying to keep Tiny from fledging before you all got there. I'll go with Lolly and ask for a nice juicy steak for dinner. Please, please, please. :)

Lolly said...

No, Candy, I have taken a nap and that is about it.

I have not been on much the last couple of hours. Just peeking in now and then.

Paula called, said they were headed out. I ordered a steak. LOL

Lolly said...

Read your comment earlier Candy. Sounds like a great year at school. Keep those centers!!!! Good for you!

My last year we had full day kinder for the first time. Loved it! Never had an aide!!! However, by the end of the year I had all my kids reading and writing. All different levels, but they were there!!!!! It was a great year!

Lolly said...

It was really hard work, though. I was exhausted! I think you and I are the same age, and it was getting too much for me. I was at school at 7 and getting home at 6:30. No life!

Lolly said...

Still two eaglets in the nest, no action.

glo said...

I am out of the basement . Is it too late to place my order. I take mine medium rare so doesn't really take too long to cook.

Lolly said...

Morning is breaking in Finland. Beautiful picture over the water.

Lolly said...

Glo, where do you live?

glo said...

Illinois on the border with Iowa. Vicky is from Illinois also but sh eis on the Indiana border :) Anyway bad storms here again but they have passed for the time being.

carolinabeachmom said...

So glad to hear you back on Glo. Did you ever get the storm? We have no cellars here on the Outer Banks, so guess we would all get wisked away! :) It is still very hot and humid here. I have the tv on to see when the horse race comes on. Gymnastics is on now. I think I have it set for 5pm

glo said...

Yes we got rain and wind, a little thunder and lightning. They had 80 mph winds just west of me and 1.5 inch hail, moved over quickly. Don't think there is storm damage but news is on later. Did fine in my area. So much lightning I even unplugged my TV and computer before going downstairs.

carolinabeachmom said...

Lolly, is that the parent in the nest in Finland? I am looking at the one where Finney was last year. I haven't gotten up to date on that nest yet this year.

carolinabeachmom said...

Glo, you certainly get some strong storms coming through that area. Glad your area seems ok.

Diane said...

Went to the nest today! It was great meeting everyone. Unfortunately, I was only able to stay until noon, so I didn't get to see the second eaglet or the parents. But Tiny gave a good show.

Lolly said...

Candy, yes, that is the parent on that nest. I have both Finland nests up. It seems like it has been forever that they have been on those eggs. Wish we could read the language so we would know what is going on.

Not too sure about the nest in Finland on the water. Parent has been gone from that nest a lot.

Glo, glad the storms were not too bad. Send some rain down here, would you, please. We need the rain.

Lolly said...

Well, is Tiny ever going to fledge?
LOL Someone said Sunday, if they did it in order of hatching.

Lolly said...

Hi Diane, glad you had a great time. We are jealous!!! :)

glo said...

Nice wingshot in camera again and i hear that flapping.

Lolly said...

Wing flaps!

glo said...

I am of to grocery, slim picking sin the cupboard at the moment bbs.

carolinabeachmom said...

Lolly said...

glo said...

Well I think Pearl is ALMOST home for supper.

glo said...

My goodness where is everyone. Don't you hear this. Actually I am starting to feel a little alarmed at the amount of call and no change in appearance of the eaglet.

Joyce said...

Hello Glo.
I am here working at the computer and semi watching. Sounds like Tiny is hungry.
I don't often get on this blog but yep... here I am today!

Joyce

glo said...

I don't think it was Tiny yelling I think it was Pearl. I do see that the live Feed is up without sound, My guess is the reset button did get hit. I am glad for what we have when we have it.

We didn't miss a fledge as there he sits.

Thanks for saying hi Joyce.

floralgirl said...

Ok- Glo- I hear the eaglet yelling now, thought I could hear another answer it in the distance. Guess it wants food or company. Nice day today with a great bunch of people, great eagle viewing, left them at the Rumsey, off to work for me. hello Jo

Joyce said...

Well Glo dear, you know me. I can tell adults from juvies, but that is all!! lolololol..

glo said...

Well a few of us jsut might hear static in our sleep tonight ...yep it surely is quiet. And I think Tiny has settled in for the night now.

Lolly said...

Just watched the video. Great job, Glo!! They will love it!

Lolly said...

Yeah, Tiny looks like he is bedding down for the night. Tomorrow may be a BIG day for him, gotta get his beauty sleep. Whoops! Now he is up! Oh, well, so much for that theory!

glo said...

Thanks Lolly. I didn't get my steak either.

Lolly said...

Well, Glo, it just has not been our day. Oh well, our turn will come. I am still ticked they did not clean off the web.

hedgie said...

Wonderful nest visit! Great show by our eaglets...we saw ALL of them--Pearl reappeared late in the afternoon. So good to know that she is thriving! Watched Middy "learning" how to make the correct approach to the nest. Tiny is getting ready to "fly the coop"--he looks eager! Great company, great food and clear blue skies. Hot, but Wanda and Gene saved the day with the RV! Vicki couldn't get internet access at the site, so couldn't blog while we were there. Sure that all will have news to post when they can!!! Thanks everybody for a great day!

Lolly said...

So glad you all had such a great time!

NatureNut said...

Great reports!! Glo, you video is great. I have hust read all 500 +- posts & now I'm bleary eyed and the nest is still covered by SPIDEY!!!!!!He's a fast worker if they did try to get rid of it!
Funny thing--I took a steak out of freezer tonight, too!Was too hungry to wait fir it so nibbled other stuff!BTW checked our eagle nest at Park today & it's still there after last Sat. & Wed horrible "Deb" weather -think 1 eaglet in it. Gonna get coffee

magpie said...

Hello Everyone, Wow some of you heard things from home that we didn't hear at the NCTC Site, eagle squealing and wing-flapping for example. The road we were on was about 200-feet or so from the nest. Farmers have an access road and they were using the staple gun thingy. I can tell you that I know for a fact that it was Paula's little beep-beep you heard...maybe others, but hers for sure. And, you home-viewers saw those great little Loon Antics that we missed. And, I did meet some of the nicest people ever! Captain Eagle had his hands full with all us silly chicks! Finally, I just extricated a tick! Woof! I suspect I might find more..Double Woof! Shoulda shaved my head before I went there...Paula photographed a nice Green Heron on a pond at the site.
Whoops, posted this on the wrong thread first time. Heat delirium I guess.

NatureNut said...

Enlarged the screen & can see Tiny pretty good. He was shaking his head--wonder if it's raining.
Some thunder, etc popping up down here.
BBL

magpie said...

Re: Green Heron, Google it and you will see right off what a cool bird this was. NATURE NUT and COSTUME LADY, SORRY - DIDN'T SEE A TANAGER, BUT THINK I DID HEAR ONE. Of course, there was a Mockingbird nearby so it sounded like a whole library of birds for awhile there.

floralgirl said...

Hey Glo:) missed you this nest visit!! maybe Jo will know why I changed my name... I have never seen a green heron before and it was beautiful, walking along in the water. ticks- ugh- they were everywhere... I'm still working- later

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Well, I just typed a book and the blogger cop got it!

Anyway, it has been a wonderful day. Went back out to the nest after dinner and all 3 juvies were there, 1 on the straight limb directly above the nest, one to the right and above the nest, and Baby Littley in the nest. When we first got there, a parent was to the left of the nest but then flew to another tree to the right of the nest. What an awesome day. I saw wish everybody could have been there today.

Going to bed now. Have had a long day and long trip tomorrow. We are making one last trip to the nest in the morning before we leave and then going to Market to see #*@%head's flowers! :) Good night and sweet eagle dreams, my friends of fine feathers and fur.

glo said...

LOL Ok well I will go to bed chuckling about Megans new name and check with Jo tomorrow. rest well. So glad you all did have a great day. Think aobut today Megan NOT the last two days.

Oh Sharon I just know you will see some actionin the am. Its always good viewing time in the am. and Tiny is resting up for ya right now.

magpie said...

You know, finding one tick is like smelling something burning....you just feel like you gotta keep looking! Hey - there is site on Larry's Loon Log which sends you to some videos which will allow us to see what some of us missed.

http://www.viddler.com/explore/rgeegee/videos/

Rest Well, All, it has been a Full Day. Thanks to Everyone for all the News. A Real Eagle Network.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

OMG!! What an awesome day this has been. As wonderful as the live feed is (and it really is wonderful), there is nothing like seeing those magnificent birds in real life. I have had the pleasure of meeting some of the greatest people I have ever met. Captain and Wanda were so gracious and kind. Saved the day for us, it was SO HOT!!

This evening we got to see all 3 babies and a parent right at dusk, beautiful site. Can't wait to see how the pics turn out. Will let you all know.

Thank you all so much for making me feel like of the bunch!! I am now, it is official, I am sure. Love ya'll bunches!!

Lolly said...

I do get the idea that they had a good time. Can hardly wait to hear the story of Megan's new name.

magpie said...

..and the last thing Wanda told me when I left the site, was to be sure to check for ticks! I did, but not well enough. "It is as it Is. " That's a Great Expression.

magpie said...

Sorry, I was speechless before, and now I can't shut up! ! That's what kind of a day it has been, and that's a Magpie for you. Maybe I should have picked Chatterbox for my moniker..No more from me tonight...

floralgirl said...

It's true- Wanda and Gene are great hosts- the Eagle Express was a welcome retreat from the hot temps.

paula eagleholic said...

Hey Lolly, Eagle-Eyed Sharon's sister had your steak!!

Whew...finally home...have read a few comments....

Really glad we went back to the nest after dinner - 2 juvies above the nest and Tiny in it! Parent was also there, then flew across the field (behind the cam) to roost for the night. Beautiful sunset too. Was just some heat lightening out tonight, no thunder or rain.

Don't think I'll make it through any of my pics tonight...probably took too many...we were probably 200-300 feet from the nest...zoom only gets you in so close, so we'll see what we have...

Eaglets and parents looked great....saw whole family today and all the kids together....having the RV there was great, Capt Gene and Wanda were such gracious hosts....got to meet many new friends....the guards got a kick out of our comings and goings...

Poor Tiny this evening...she was peeping away while everyone was on the limbs above her...she wants up there with them, or maybe them down with her.

And Megan - where did that name come from???

paula eagleholic said...

Oh and Dinner was great...had a raffle...and Vicky won the big prize....a nice eagle walking stick...

Lolly said...

Well.......I wondered what happened to my steak. I waited and waited and waited!!! Finally had to go dig in the freezer and we grilled hamburgers.

Lolly said...

So glad they put on a good show for you!

paula eagleholic said...

Was reading the blog...the calling you were hearing at 8:21 was Tiny in the nest and the others above it. I was able to video that when I got there...not sure how it turned out yet...getting dark and lots of other birdies still chirping away...including the mockingbirds!

NatureNut said...

I'm baaaack. Power went out.
I posted a green heron pic on blog. They are different!

paula eagleholic said...

I spotted the green heron today and asked Magpie about it...really cool looking little bird...got some good pics of it!

paula eagleholic said...

And we watched the Belmont stakes also while we were waiting for dinner....Big Brown really faded....never really showed up, though he looked good on the back stretch

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Well, we are still up. We are looking like monkeys picking fleas off each other. These ticks are something else. We have determined that Thelma and Buddy are true tick-magnets. I had one trying to embed in my stomach and one on the back of my shirt. Just found one in the bed and another one on Thelma's arm. This is quite enough.

Lolly said...

Oh yuk!!!! Be sure you get them all. I can just see you sitting around picking at each other. LOL

paula eagleholic said...

And yup, that was my horn :):)

Mema Jo said...

I am home and have settled down a bit. It was a PERFECT day..Eagle show was great with eagle buddies all around you-Greatest accommodations ever with the Eagle Express & Capt Gene & First Mate Wanda! The staff at the Rumsey always treats us special!
Our extra special guests for dinner were Tom & Sandra! We knew they were going to stop to see us but we were really happy they stayed with us the whole evening! They both looked fantastic!
The best sight at the nest to me was watching the juvie fly to the tree and land! Missed the nest of course but didn't crash!

For the life of me - I am having a senior moment as to WHY Megan got a new name.... Can't remember the real reason.... She did something &
instantaneously got a new name...
HOWEVER; Megan will always be our FLORALGIRL and we won't honor any new name especially since I don't remember the reason for it!

paula eagleholic said...

LOL, I picked em off of me and put them on you, Sharon! I haven't found a one yet...

paula eagleholic said...

Maybe they liked your bug spray!!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Mema Jo, you got wax!!

Paula, did you not ever find ticks on you?? You were outside more than all of us. What is your trick for not attracting ticks?

paula eagleholic said...

LOL Jo, must have been during lunch...I was out watching the eagles...

So glad you mentioned that Sandra and Tom came for dinner, I was just going to mention it! Sandra looked great!

NatureNut said...

Wow, sounds like a great adventure from everyone's reports!
I could guess about Megan's new name, but I don't think she cusses!!!

Poor Big Brown--hope they don't find anything wrong w/him & they retire him to save those cracked hooves.

paula eagleholic said...

OK, Megan, now you will have to tell us the story!

paula eagleholic said...

Hey Sharon the turtle sign pic turned out great...just starting to look at the pics....and the deer looked cute too.

There are a ton of deer roaming around the campus...

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

We had a new person show up today. Her name is Ellen and just fit right in with us. There were 2 people that came to see the nest that were at NCTC for training. They were fascinated by our eaglet enthusiasm! It was just a great day all the way around.

As for Capt. Eagle and Wanda, they are a gruesome twosome. They really are the most gracious of hosts, even fed us, and I was so grateful for the relief from the heat. Going to bed now. Way past my bedtime!!

paula eagleholic said...

Oh, and Lolly, Deb and Nature...we had you right there at the table with us for dinner...sure you didn't taste that Steak Lolly?

NatureNut said...

Guess you can't get close enough to the nest to find the turtle shell that got dumped!!LOL That was so funny--clattering all the way down thee other evening!

Mema Jo said...

I did get wax! Lucky Lucky Me!

I thought Sandra looked very good!
Megan brought a beautiful vase of peonies and we made sure Sandra took them home!

It was good to visit with Suzanne
She misses chatting with us as much as we miss hearing her chatter!!!!

It was good to have Vicky with us!
I was happy that she got the Eagle Head Walking/Hiking Stick! In Oct there will be more of those at NCTC gift shop. Let me know if you are going to look for one and I will be sure Faith/NCTC Gift Shop orders enough when we go over in October..

NatureNut said...

Think I'm gonna go---
Pleasant Feather Dreams!!

NatureNut said...

P.S. I read that--no wonder I wanted steak when I got home!!

Mema Jo said...

Yes,Indeed - the photos Paula brought of Deb, Lolly & Naturenut - you were right there with us. That was a Great idea!

Lolly said...

I'm more that sure!!!LOL

Lolly said...

Hey! I got a chance to show off my beautiful grandsons! Ha!

paula eagleholic said...

Looking through my pics...put one on the blog...the eaglet had flown in and was above the nest...trying to figure out how to get down into the nest. She finally flew off, made a wide loop and landed in the nest.

Good Night Everyone

paula eagleholic said...

Nature - I told Jo we had to come back to find that turtle shell, LOL.

I got video of it, but that will have to wait till tomorrow...

paula eagleholic said...

Wow, my pics turned out better than I thought...hard to tell what you really have on a 2 inch screen!

Lolly said...

That is a good picture! The cam is to the right of the nest in the picture, right?

paula eagleholic said...

Yes it is

paula eagleholic said...

It was hard to watch and take pics at the same time!! And trying to get the video was harder....trying to follow them in the sky.

paula eagleholic said...

It was great talking with you today, Lolly!

Lolly said...

I enjoyed it too, Paula. I am just so glad you all had such a great day. Tomorrow Tiny will probably take to the sky!!!

Lolly said...

deb said...

It sounds like everyone had a wonderful day. The coocert was great, but I would have rather been eagle watching with all of you. The rain held off until the last fireworks exploded, then the lightening took over and the skies opened. 35,000 people at a hospital picnic, who would have thought that would happen.

deb said...

Oh, I forgot, my niece got engaged tonight, excitement in my family! (don't tell her we all knew the when and the where) I did very good pretending it was all news to me!

floralgirl said...

Oh great, now I am looking for ticks again...just hearing about them makes me itch...

movin said...

GOOD NIGHT, ALL IN EAGLE LAND....

I'm glad you had a good field trip and got lots of pics. Hope to see some of them tomorrow. :~)

3 in nest...fight and one over the side :( argh. I am on my way to work. Do have video for this morning or tonight.

more fighting not a very good morning

Yes, that did not look the least bit friendly.

One, Two and Three in the Nest again.

OH, it must be the heat and humidity, even the birds are irritable. Still 3 in nest- hi ho hi ho its off to work I go... stay cool everybody, gonna be a scorcher today!

magpie said...

Have a good day FLORAGIRL.

magpie said...

Make that FLORALGIRL. Flowers bring serenity. Food in the nest this morning brings squabble.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

I just got up. Worn out this morning but slept good with hopefully no more tick problems - at least until we go back to the nest this morning.

I see all three are in the nest this morning. One is doing some great mantling and eating. Somebody just tried to steal the food and it didn't happen.

magpie said...

Take Off! And now only two.

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

Baby Littley still has the white spot on top of his head, sitting directly under the camera.
