I have returned from appointment & maybe in time to see egg #2 in the BWE nest! I put the Pop Up cam up so I can keep an eye on the nest. I like at least 2 in the nest - I do remember Eggbert at Puget Sound...Poor little guy - I bet he is out there making all kinds of friends now that he knows they're out there & look just like he does! lol
Whoops! No, Dana - I best get over there - you know how I love the owls. While I go over there - Look at the 2 owls in the Hotel! I really hope we get some eggs in that nest box so we can watch them hatch.
SOMEONE KEEP AN EYE ON BWE I don't know if that is the Lord or Lady.......
You can barely see the owl - I am assuming it is in the tree on the right hand side unless my eyes deceive me. I wish they would turn their night dimmer switch up just a little.......
JoUnless I have it wrong go back and click on "owl" at Norfolk. I thought it was to the right of nest at first to. Look on the left of the nest. There are 3 limbs going straight out "it is on the second or middle limb".
Could be wrong but at Maine I think first one in nest was male that brought in food and was eating. I think the 2nd eagle that flew in was the female. She is poking around for leftovers.
Deb I found at the right of screen where it says "2008 Daily Slideshows: there it list "owl" that is the only picture I see. Where to you get pictures 2 through 5????
January 28: Tai Gets a Physical Today, Tai Shan got his first-ever comprehensive physical exam. He was anesthetized early in the morning and brought to the Zoo’s hospital, where staff veterinarians, joined by a veterinary dentist and a veterinary cardiologist, performed a thorough routine health exam. Veterinarians said Tai, who now weighs 157 pounds, is in excellent health. After the exam, he was returned to his indoor enclosure to recover from the anesthesia
That's why he was not on the cam yesterday, and was so hungry during the night, little guy missed his breakfast and lunch
You are welcome, "one and only." You are very special to us...as are all our momsters. But our Mema Jo is unique.
By the way, you mentioned the blog was too busy for Megan to get on yesterday. How does that work? I don't know anything about the capacity of the blogs... or their servers.
Another comment seemed to suggest she is getting a cable hook-up. Is that right?
Jim, Megan had dial-up and the more comments we made, the harder it was for her to get in. She had Verizon check her lines and was told they couldn't do anything for her. Cable is working on getting her internet connection. In the meantime, her computer is on the fritz and is in for repair. That's about the extent of my knowledge.
I see you all are talking about the owl at Norfolk. I sent an email to Norfolk asking about their "Night Lite" being so dim, and this is the reply I got:
The ability of the light to illuminate the scene is limited. The light is approximately 20 feet from the nest. This is as as good gets.
That being said we have captured still photos of a Great Horned owl visiting the nest. Neither Eagle is currently roosting in the nest site, so there isn't much to see at this point.
I'll make a blog post in the next day or so.

Hello all. I'm new to this. Actually, I'm a good friend of Sandy's and she showed me this today and thought it was pretty neat. What webpage is this Norfolk nest on?
JO, I told Norfolk in my email something to that effect (about the lighting being so dim that it really did no good). I did tell Steve how much we enjoyed the beautiful cam shots throughout the daylight hours.
You are right, Jo. You would think someone who has such an awesome cam set-up as Norfolk would have and equally awesome night vision cam. (Like us). But, then again, he said the cam is 20 ft. away. Maybe they will have a better cam next year. This nest was kinda Spur-of -the Moment and they probably didn't have enough time to set a camera any closer. JMHO

It's another cold, rainy night here Martinsburg/Shepherdstown area. Hope Lib and Belle are high and dry somewhere. Lady B. is asleep in her nest with her head tucked in. All's Well. Giving thanks that Sandra is doing so well.
Thanks for the link to the visit by the Kent pair (can't recall both of their names now! Starr & ????), Deb. Very interesting, and apparently what little we can see at present on cam #2 is not what it seems. The nest looks like a giant dirt hole with a few sticks around it, but since the male at least was standing with both feet in the area, it probably is not that bad.
I hope they decide to use this nest this year again, and I sure hope the humans get the cameras and computers back in shape pretty soon.
There are a bunch of Giraffes near Pete's Pond. They're off in the distance and the lens isn't picking them out clearly. I couldn't tell what they were at first, and they look albino at that distance, but then my eye picked up on a pair of them fighting, or practicing, with their necks and horns...you might have seen some of the vicious blows they can deliver.
Then the shapes of the others began to appear clearer.
The herd is slowly moving off to the right toward the horizon...must be at least 2 miles away.
Last post on BWE was Lisa saying that there's no 2nd egg yet. It could be possible it will come tonight or tomorrow, but she seems to think the gap in size and age might be [too] great. So, what if we skip #2 and call it #3. Everything OK?
Well it is 2:31 a.m. Dogs woke me up. Looked at the computer and Liberty and Belle were in the nest. Belle just took off and Liberty is still there. How strange is that?

He is moving fluff around in the bedroom.
How many ways can you redecorate a bedroom, Lib?
He is just sitting on the edge of the nest hoping Belle will stop by.
Good luck Lib, I gotta go.
Lib is gone too.
Lib is gone, turkeys on the deer cam, eagle in the Norfolk nest, eagle calling in Maine.
Still one egg at BWE.
A great horned owl visited the Norfolk nest around 4:45 this morning. There are pictures on the website.

We really need another egg. Like Lisa says "it is for security"!!!
It's 53 degrees down in Cambridge at the nest.. No worry if they're not incubating it constantly....

If you look at the bottom of the screen that pops up, there are numbers. Also I think the word next. Use those to see all the pictures.
There are 12 pictures in the owl set.

Nest Update
01/29/08:
No sign of a second egg yet.
It could come on Wednesday, but it would be considered late, and it would mean a large size difference between the two chicks.
Thanks mema jo. I am actually Sandy's therapist. I can't say too much about everything because of HIPAA. But I can tell you that she had a brief visit home today to practice getting around her house. Well, glad you are back...I'm headed off to go nite-nite....GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE
I am going to call it a day!
I have an early am appointment - just blood work and an annual exam.
Good Night Everyone! It's been a good eagle exciting day!

Good Night Again - for sure!
Well it is 2:31 a.m. Dogs woke me up. Looked at the computer and Liberty and Belle were in the nest. Belle just took off and Liberty is still there. How strange is that?
Now both are gone.
WOW Sharon they were both in the nest. That early am....then took off. That is strange...Glad you took the look. It is 3:37:04am and our nest is MT.
EAGLE ALERT OUR NEST
One in then the other came in
Belle is laying in the egg cup with Liberty behind her.
One gone the other stretching for a stick.
Not sure till picture clears better. Might be food in nest or may just be how picture looks. One still in nest.
