From the falconer at the NCTC Open House on Deb's mystery bird:
Wow! With that beak, it can only be an Eagle. My guess is that, based on the location of the shot, and the coloration,,,it's an immature Golden. An immature Bald would not likely have that light of a back, even for a weird light morph. So, it's probably a blondie. That's what we call really light birds, for their usual species coloration. There are some real blondie Red Tails and Feruginous and all types.
Yeah! I have all along hoped that it was a golden eagle, but wasn't holding out any hope. We do have some here in SD, but they are not too plentiful. One was shot just before Christmas, but, luckily it was rescued. From the sounds of the injury, though, I doubt if it will be able to be released. Last I heard, the GF&P had a lead on the shooter.
Just a very quick pop in as I'm off to bed, not been to well these past few days,, so I'm trying to chatch up on some sleep..
Had to look in to see what L and B were up to,, I see they are sunbathing and dont have a care in the world, boy they get more beautiful everytime I look at them.
Right my lovely friends,, off I jolly well go.
Hope all is as well as it can be with you all. and I'll be back soon. Take care wont you.

They just seem to be content to sit in the sun, don't they?

Hi, Beautiful pair, Liberty and Belle...
I guess they've been there over an hour from your comments.
I think it might be a pre-nesting territory display... "We are the pair in charge of this nest in this territory! Any questions?"
Any other eagles in the area are sure to get the idea and either challenge our pair or go elsewhere.
It shouldn't be too much longer before they get down to business now.
Jim
Oh,sooo pretty, how long have they been here?
Any word on the live feed or sound for this season??
