Sharon, it has been years since we have had a big snow also. Last winter was great. We just got a few PRETTY snows, but nothing that bogged is down. When it snows, I don't drive. One Winter, I didn't drive for 2 months. After the snow left, there were those big ice ruts on all the roads, so I got Gene to drive me if I HAD to go somewhere.
GOOD MORNING NORMA-- yes, I hear the guns blasting all around me. Sounds like a war zone. First day today. Hope Gene gets one. Then we can have a Venison Roast and invite all of you!
Morning, Normabyrd! Opening day, you say? In WV? Think PA's opening day is the 2nd of Nov, but I sure wouldn't swear to it! They even close the schools! I think that's a bit overkill, but hey, what do I know?
Eagle still hanging out in BW, and mom is back with Squiggles. Early AM snack. Seems all 3 pandas at NZ are chowing down on their bamboo. Cool pic of Tai through the changing leaves!
HELEN---Before I forget!!---I re-watched part of "PLANET EARTH" last night!!!---The LEOPARD I had seen before was the 'SNOW LEOPARD'--- not the 'CLOUDED LEOPARD'------Truly HANDSOME ANIMALS!!---It was the first time any one had filmed one & first time filming of a LEOPARD killing prey to feed her cub!!---Very difficult to see in the snow!---
Good morning all. Guess I already missed Lib and Belle. Oh well with that new log there I am sure they have some re-arranging to do. I can hardly imagine either one of them actually getting it up and then into that nest but they obviously did.
MORNIN' SUZANNE!!---They CLOSE schools here too---(REASON: afraid a child might get hit waiting at a bus stop)---REAL REASON:--(teacher & students WILL take off from school during deer season)----DEER SEASON IS A BIG DEAL IN WV!--Lots of hunters come to WV to hunt!!--Think you are right about PA'S season too!---My husband used to go to PA to hunt after WV season ended!!
OH, ok, thanks, Norma. Haven't read the older blogs. Eagle still hanging out in BW. Grooming, making himself prettier! Tai is pacing, and mom and dad are eating bamboo. Squiggles and Bai are sleeping. She's mobile now, Bai's gonna have her hands full!
I will try again. Karla called me last night and sounded terrible. Donny got back from his weekend trip with "Dad", and was getting Dusty for her. (He was with his Dad)
MORNING GLO!!---Those WV EAGLES are STRONG!! ho!!-----I just got off the phone---2 kids have this week off so---they call early in the a.m.!!---Wondered if CANDY gets a week off?-----
Cheri, a Blogger Cop is someone who doesn't like what you type in here and eats it up when you are trying to send it on to the others.LOL Then you have to go back and type it all over again!
Cheri, GG is not feeling very well and I need to get her to a doctor. She is in severe pain and nothing will take it away. She has had 2 cortisone shots, physical therapy, Lidocane Patch & Oxycodone. Not much help.Got to get her fixed up for Thanksgiving. Come to dinner with us if you can. Gotta make some phone calls now.If the Doc is in maybe he will see her now. BBL
Hi Norma Glad you have spent some time with kids on the phone today. I love my family phone calls. Think I shall work on CMAS cards some more today. I want to get them in the mail next weekend. Actually a little snow would help the atmosphere. But I have foggy rain instead. I might make a trip by the Marina this morning while I am out running errands. Gmorning all. I just wanted to say Hi before I headed out the door. Maybe rain. Its trying to get light but the cloud cover is fighting it. I had one of those mornings when I wanted to pull the covers over my head. I will we watching you today. Hugs...
Hey all! I still haven't processed the Dock Dog shots. I also have some from BW from a week or two ago and some from yesterday I haven't gotten to yet. Bob, loved your shots! Loved the squirrel shots too, he was posing for you. Also great shot of the white tail deer and the eagle. For not finding anything to shoot, you sure got some great shots! Love old buildings and bird houses like that too.
Norma - Yes that squirrel seemed like it was posing. It kep flipping around and looking at me from different angles. I have no idea if that's an endangered delmarva fox squirrel or just a regular squirrel. I can't tell the difference. I know they have them at BW, not sure about Pickering.
Good Morning - Happy to see a full house - Thanks Suzanne for this morning's visit pics! Good work, Dana on your movies - Thanks Bob for sharing your photos - I love old buildings and the inquisitive squirrel gave you some good looks!

Thanks, Paula, but don't think I can view that...it's still coming up. Sure would love to, though, love watching them! Morning, Jim. Jim, saw a hummer nest once in Ft Huachuca, AZ. It was soooo tiny! Way too cute!! But it was in a bush/tree right by a window, and you could watch the hummers, they had babies. Couldn't believe the tiny size of the nest. Haven't gone looking for one, though. They're so little, I'd never find it! Yes, Norma, I am taking Friday off!! Another 3 day week, I could learn to like that!!! Wow, 2 weeks in a row. Next 5 day week is gonna be a killer! Hey, glad you got to see Big Bob!!!
MORNING JIM!!---Are you going to your sister's home for THANKSGIVING??----I have never found a humming bird's nest----But a dear friend that introduced me to bird watching---found one in her lawn----She had several humming birds!!---About the size of a quarter!!!
Squiggles is scooting trying to walk towards the door. Bai must be outside, and she wants mom. There she goes too!!! Cutie! LOOK...she's gonna walk and then go out. Wonder how far she'll get before moom brings her back. Uh oh, just fell over on our side, awwwww. Back up at 'em, but oops, fell over on the other side. Oh my, she's sure trying!
the front and back will not work really good til she is around 5 months, then she will be on her way running all over the place, but since she is a GIRL this might happen sooner, she really looks strong and smart
Oh man, I gotta go. She is funny, Mits. Can't quite go straight, but she's doing well sideways. Between scooting, trying to walk, and falling on her side, she's been all over that den. Even to the door and half way out. This is adoraable. Chubby little thing, isn't she? Ok, I am outta here this time.
GREAT SHOTS, BOB. Do you have any ID's for the small birds? I believe the squirrel looks standard size too...beautiful standard though.
Eagle at BW.
Hummer babe is very cute. Fairly near fledging..if I recall from some still pics I saw last year.
I just thought about it...this is a very unusual time for Hummingbirds to be nesting, even in Orange County, CA. Wonder if it has anything to do with the fires.
WOW!!---BEST SHOW IN TOWN!!---ADORABLE LITTLE IMP---BUTT UP IN THE AIR!!----I understand or didn't we read somewhere---learning to use back legs are the hardest!
The first year I fed Hummingbirds (at another apt. in Santa Ana), I drew two Blackchin families (one pair was shaped like pencils, one pair was shaped more like eggs), and they started nesting about a week before Spring.
But much later (late Nov and early Dec), a scruffy looking pair came into the area (probably from the desert), and they proceeded to mate and nest. So it is not unknown this late, just unusual.
Got a better look (head on and from side) of the Hummingbird momma, and I see rufous on the sides and the throat pattern is very distinctive, so I agree with the site that it is an Allen's variety of bird.
Good Afternoon hope everyone is staying in and staying warm... And have our nest up to watch for the eagles to arrive for the nightly visit... Sure looks like rain or snow out there... Jo any news on our Christmas Party yet? HO HO HO Maybe Santa will appear this year... wink
Hi, eagle lovers! It's cloudy and nippy up on this mountain today. It's 46, but there is a damp chill in the air. It has been foggy all day in the valley. It is so beautiful up here when it's foggy down there and we can just see the tops of the ridges. I read the blogs for the past several days. Lots of reminiscing going on! My favorite Christmas memory is that all the Christmas hype didn't start until after Thanksgiving. We had Halloween, then Thanksgiving and then the next week we'd start thinking about Christmas a little. When I was married, we raised a hog every year. The Saturday before Thanksgiving we'd butcher our hog along with my mother-in-law's hog and my brother-in-law's hog. There would be about 10 or 12 people involved in the process. I remember my mother-in-law coming out of the house as the hogs were being gutted to get the livers. We'd take a break for dinner (aka: lunch) and have fresh fried pork liver, along with taters, beans and other things. She used to say that the only thing that went to waste on the hogs was their squeal. We froze some, ground some, canned some, made lard and pork rinds and the dogs got what was left. It was quite an experience for a city girl the first time! Had a busy weekend this past weekend. Spent Saturday shopping (not for Christmas!) and gave my dog, Remus, a bath at PETCO. I can't give him a bath in the bathtub because it hurts my back and he shakes and gets the whole bathroom wet. So, for $10, I give him baths at PETCO in an elevated tub with a water sprayer. They even provide the towels and shampoo. Sunday, I worked on my firewood. I had to clean up the wood shed and move some old wood to another place so I could get to it when I stacked the new wood. I have 3 truck loads of wood to stack - but I love stacking wood. Got some stacked, but have a lot to go. It's been there in a big pile since September - but for some reason, I don't like to do it til the weather gets cold. Going down to the DC area on Wednesday for Thanksgiving and to spend time with my 87 year old Mom and to see some of my brothers and sisters. Hope all of you have a good Thanksgiving!
I was just looking at that bird of Wandas and thinking what a colorful Thanksgiving eagle/turkey it is... lol i changed pictures although the last was beautiful to see enlarged and read this Tweety is more my style!!!! And it says " I weally weally wish you a vewy Happy Thanksgiving! I Do! I Do!!
HAHAHA Dana i think the bird has 2 wings just the way the light hits it and the sky and when he snapped made it look like 1 wing... How ya doin these days?
Paula - Well, I had a hard time finding subjects yesterday (some of the eagle shots are from November 4th) so I went to my fallback. Switched to a shorter lens and went for landscapes. I should probably do that more often.
Hello Paula and Mits. Getting ready to go to bed, 5:30 comes way too early some days, but I sure love getting off at 2 and having the whole evening free! Except today because I worked 2 1/2 hours of over time!
Loved Bob's photo of the Autumn colored trees reflecting & surrounding the water. Looks like a calendar photo. It's like opening presents when he sends us his photo.
Just peeking in for a minute - I see that Andrew has said farewell & the winter cardinal in the snow has arrived! Photos are very moving.. those skylines are fantastic, Bob. BBL to say good night
I love your photos, Bob, including these landscape shots and the ones with the flocks in flight...great subject, frame, texture, color, action...when you turning pro?
What kind of falcon or hawk is that in the last shot, do you know?
How about that record flight of "Luke" on the BW site?? Guess he was waiting for a good tail wind to start migrating, huh.

Hey Suz
PAULA, have you tried the Oregon eagle cam, I have not been able to get on for several days, says something about a web-site security issue, maybe it is just my puter???
Bob - Hate to bust your bubble, but I think that is a regular gray squirrel, based on his coloring. Here is some more info on the Delmarva Fox squirrel.
Delmarva Fox Squirrel
Mits - I was able to check it OK yesterday...I just got in, you have to accept the security certificate.
WOW, nest is completely covered in snow!
Moosies all gone.
Paula - Yes, it is a grey squirrel. I had someone from Pickering confirm. The reddish head gives it away.
Thanks for the heads up on the moose, Paula. I brought it up this morning, and it still had yesterday's date and time, and pic was daylight at 4:30, so just closed it. Hope another one stops by.
then it is my puter, had troubles with it last week and comcast sent me directions to fix it, and I guess it is messing me up with some things.
ok, thanks, Paula, I overrided their recommendation not to go to site and got in, yep a nest full of snow
Mits, when I accessed the Oregon cam from the Momsters link, I got the warning right away about accepting the security certificate. When I clicked accept, I got right into the website. I haven't gotten that message prior to today, so I don't think it is just your computer.
Snow must have been from last night or this morning, was windy and empty there yesterday.

Phenomenal Hummer site. I've seen them in motion in Nature flicks, but it's very uncommon to see the video feed on-line.
Anybody ever tried to "find" a hummingbird nest for real??
I've seen a couple that were found by accident, but they're practically impossible to find searching for them.
Jim
Oh look, you can see the little Hummers now.

Well (^*%$%*)&&)(**^, of all times to switch the cam! Darn. And then some.
Time for me to hit the road. Can't wait to get in the car with heat.
Oh, Squiggles back, she's farther out than she was.
All have a great eagle/panda day. Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!
Look at her, can't quite go straight, kinda working her way sideways, but oops, keeps falling over. Little cutie.
Well she may be smart and strong, but she still is really clumsy at this point:):)
Mits, she's gonna make it!!!! She's half way out, this is adorable!
There she goes...

I think she fell asleep half and half out of the den.

don't stay away "2" long, Jo:).
After dark, and Bull Elephants are slurping up the pond at Pete's.
There were 2 eagles at BW but only 1 at the moment.
The Hummer might be an Allens, but more likely Annas...what do you think?
Jim
Do you think the red behind the Hummer nest is a feeder?
Jim
Got a better look (head on and from side) of the Hummingbird momma, and I see rufous on the sides and the throat pattern is very distinctive, so I agree with the site that it is an Allen's variety of bird.
Jim
Well, have a good day....
Jim
the afternoon wrestling match at the Zoo is going on
Still snowing in Oregon...
Eewwiieee at BW
Burrowing owl is out
Eagle(s) at CC

Bamboo time has taken precedence over the wrestling match......
wonder if that is one of the younger owls?
Sorta large and plump looking - I don't know where burrowing owls go or for how long they hang out at the nest.
No moose in view but the camera is picking up a different angle of the yard.
I need to get more done in order to be ready for Thanksgiving....

Carol we have eagles in our nest...

BW Photos
Bob thank you for sharing your pictures again with us. Beautiful colors.
The last one is that an unusual snap shot of that bird. Flying with one wing?
Bob they are amazingly beautiful and the autumn sky with the geese flying... Thanks for sharing
HAHAHA Dana i think the bird has 2 wings just the way the light hits it and the sky and when he snapped made it look like 1 wing... How ya doin these days?
Dana - I think the last one is a Northern Harrier. I think it looks like its flying with one wing because of the angle and it was making a turn.
Oh, Bob! Nice! Very Nice!
Thought you couldn't find anything to shoot? :)
Paula - Well, I had a hard time finding subjects yesterday (some of the eagle shots are from November 4th) so I went to my fallback. Switched to a shorter lens and went for landscapes. I should probably do that more often.
Good evening, my friends.
Howdy, Sharon!
Bob, I love the landscapes :)
HELLO SHARON, How are you?
BOB, great pics, they remind me of the times my hubby and I use to drive to BW, before we were married.
Hello Paula and Mits. Getting ready to go to bed, 5:30 comes way too early some days, but I sure love getting off at 2 and having the whole evening free! Except today because I worked 2 1/2 hours of over time!
Well, that was a long, drawn-out statement, huh?
Oh, and hello Bob!
overtime is good, especially around the hloidays
Loved Bob's photo of the Autumn colored trees reflecting & surrounding the water. Looks like a calendar photo.
It's like opening presents when he sends us his photo.
Just peeking in for a minute - I see that Andrew has said farewell & the winter cardinal in the snow has arrived!
Photos are very moving.. those skylines are fantastic, Bob.
BBL to say good night
The cardinal is beautiful, Sharon, simple, yet elegant.
GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE...
Jim
Jim
Sounds as though Luke was in a big hurry!
Lisa has just posted the update on his migration
JIM, BOB thought it was a Northern Harrier
The deer-cam that Suzanne watches in the a.m., has a night light and a bunch of racoons just walked by:)
It's been a long day. Calling it quits. Taking my Mom to the hospital in the morning for CT Scan, so may be MIA.
GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE
SLEEP WELL
Good Night Everyone
