Oh, Loretta.........not sounding good there, either. Any word on the bird's injuries??? Do they think he will recover and be released? I hope the Mnt. guy heeds the info.
Praying hard for yours and ours.....

Lori, those are all defensive calls....

Can't stand it--Hi, Everyone!--I'm back again. Belle is definitely watchful, and keeps calling out. Did someone say earlier whether anyone from NCTC is out looking for Lib?

stronghunter said...

Hi, I have been watching off and on. Just got back to my classroom and heard all of that calling from Belle.

hedgie said...

Wow, another split.......what a day it has been......highs and lows of nature.....

movin said...

Osprey is back on BWO. I can't decide if it is a large male or a small female...

C(°ٿ°)D Jim

hedgie said...

Andy, John and Randy I guess were scanning the tree/skies.......w/o any sighting.

paula eagleholic said...

Up and calling and off to the left

hedgie said...

And Belle leaves again.....

NatureNut said...

Belle just flew out!

stronghunter said...

More calling and out of the nest.

stronghunter said...

I still hear cries.

paula eagleholic said...

I work here on NCTC campus and have been keeping an eye out all day. Lib has not been seen today either in the nest or around the nest.

Ms Bookworm said...

Now that Belle has flown, POJ is calling out. Hope Belle is able to bring food and feed the little one soon!

hedgie said...

O'Joy looks strong and curious.

Robyn said...

ok getting hair done and reading blogs havent attempted cam yet on phone and not sure i am ready to. I'll just follow the blog

IrisF said...

I have to say, that PJ sure looks strong for a new hatch!!! Not much bobbling around for this one!

Now if only we can sort out what's going on with Lib and Belle, we could all breath again..(((hugs)))for everyone!

NatureNut said...

She's back & there's noise up in the tree! The troops need to go out.

Unknown said...

Belle has been calling and calling, intruder returned a 2nd time, and no sign of Liberty for how long now? Am very concerned, this is not looking good.

paula eagleholic said...

We are worried too, Lee

stronghunter said...

It is very hard to be unable to do anything but watch.

PA Nana said...

Good afternoon everyone watching the drama taking place at NCTC.

Prayers for Lib's return and the health and safety of his mate and chick(s).

paula eagleholic said...

The intruder might be up in the tree, Belle keeps looking up and to the right. Plus the calls.

Ms Bookworm said...

Know what you mean, Shirley!
Guess the best thing we can do is pray--without ceasing! Count me in on the prayers!

Mema Jo said...

Paula, Thanks for the message from John

Ms Bookworm said...

Belle is definitely on high alert!

paula eagleholic said...

Now looking to the left and up

Geula said...

I decided to shut the cam off! I ccan't deal with all that calling and chirping....I'll just have to rely on the blog

I'm upset but I realize that we can't change anything. All we can do is hope and pray that these issues will be resolved and that that Lib is okay and that Belle can keep her chick and egg safe and fed in the event that something has happened to Lib.

paula eagleholic said...

John confirmed that NCTC has a hands off policy.

Ms Bookworm said...

Paula, if Lib were to be found somewhere with an injury, would he be taken to a rehab?

Geula said...

It is right and proper that NCTC has a hands off policy.

hedgie said...

Andy, I'm sure that the federal protection law calls for that if the eagle is alive.

PA Nana said...

Sorry everyone, I have to leave you. I can no longer sit here and listen to Belle's mournful cries.

I'll try to check back later.
God bless!

stronghunter said...

Belle looks so regal sitting there. She is one fierce contender.

NatureNut said...

She hasn't sat back down on chick & egg yet.Glad it's sunny.

Thank you Paula for message from John.
If nothing happens, I think a couple fish need to be thrown on the hill!

Ms Bookworm said...

Oh, good--looks like Belle is settling down on the nest. I'm sure POJ could use some Mom time!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

God bless Liberty and Belle and those babies. If Lib does not come back, can she raise the babies on her own or will they perish?

kittenface said...

Return of the intruder

NatureNut said...

Well, she finally sat down. I wish we could get a line of folks to just walk all that property, like police cadets do.

Lynn & All, I have not heard any info on the eagle taken to rehab.

NatureNut said...

She's out again!

stronghunter said...

Belle is gone again.

NatureNut said...

Oh, please, Belle find some food! ♥

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Good afternoon friends! Praying for a miracle and fearing it might not happen.

Bob In Frederick said...

OK hedgie, I built a profile, then started a blog, and posted the photo of the potential intruder. Not sure how folks on this thread get to see it, but it's there, and hopefully I did everything necessary to make it publicly available. I've got to run (really late at this point) to pick up someone. Will check back tomorrow. Cheers. New name is "Bob In Frederick" (was just "Bob" before).

Mauley said...

I, too, am terribly terribly worried. Any new information??????????

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Our precious baby is alone again.

PammySue said...

Hello all. I have not logged in for quite a while, but I lurk when I can. I am helping my parents care for my 99 year old grandmother, so it sometimes gets hectic or I just don't have internet access.
But with everything that is happening today, I wanted to let you know that I am praying for Liberty's return and for the little one.
It is so hard to watch.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

No Mauley, we don't know anything. I am to the point now where I can't hold back the tears anymore!

stronghunter said...

Little one is crying out again.

paula eagleholic said...

Per John on the OD comments

OK, so this is whats going on, our eagle expert on campus has relayed us news that both Lib and Belle are accounted for, Lib is actually the one in the nest and has been the one the whole day. Belle has been resting on an above branch (hidden from my site) and also out and about. I guess they got in a fight this morning and dont wanna be near each other haha
0 4 4:00PM, Mar 17, 2011John

paula eagleholic said...

I still think we have an intruder.

hedgie said...

Good to see Iris, Vicky, and Mauley aboard. It's been a while, gals!

Yea, Bob in Frederick---you did great!!! You can go back and see the comments that people leave!!

stronghunter said...

I can't imagine that they would abandon the little one like that because they are unhappy with one another.

paula eagleholic said...

Bob in Frederick...I think we have talked before...a couple of years back. I work in Frederick, sorry been busy at work today, hadn't answered your email or gotten your pic on the blog. We can click on your name and go to your blog to see the picture.

paula eagleholic said...

Yea, they've seen two eagles, but one of 'em isn't Lib!

IrisF said...

That sure doesn't explain why one of them is not on the egg and POJ does it? Or the lack of food? Maybe they can't see the dark spots on the other eagle's head like we can?

Pray, pray, pray!

paula eagleholic said...

Joy looks good!

Mema Jo said...

Bob in Frederick - Saw the pic you have. Welcome to this blog - I am
from Middletown... Keep coming back.

NatureNut said...

PJ pretty fiesty & chirping.Think Bell's been gone long enough to get food.xxxooo

stronghunter said...

Joy is definitely very strong.

paula eagleholic said...

Thank goodness for the warm temp today.

glo said...

So if NCTC finds Lib injured would that be hands off policy too? Concerns and confuses me too. Does not at all surprise me though.

argh!!!! I know it happens everywhere all the time, but not in front of us with our knowledge. Oh well we are not biologists.

If we know and let them die I will never agree. Just have to accept to agree to disagree. argh!!!

stronghunter said...

Speaking of food, I will need to make a food run myself eventually. I also need to purchase paper so I can make copies for my students. Paper shortage here at the moment.

I will return ASAP.

glo said...

John's comment on OD

I DO NOT BUY THAT AT ALL

Sorry but had we not emailed and begged I don't think anyone there even knew it was hatch week. jmho But its a tough day already and enough is enough.

FuzzleMT said...

I'm with you, stronghunter - my first reaction to John's message was "do you think we are stupid!?" Now, I very much appreciate John at NCTC giving info, but that info from the "eagle expert" upsets me!! We are already on the verge, if not openly in tears - ok, I vented - ready to go back to watching for Lib and praying . . .

Mema Jo said...

Paula - No ha ha on what John was told by the eagle expert. That person must
not know our eagles very well.
Intruder and I just would love to have a scouting party on the grounds near the nest tree looking for an injured
Lib
I really think it was Belle on the eggs all this time.........

Wish John would listen to our story

glo said...

Well for me angry is easier to handle than sad, but I do not see how this is going to resolve without sadness indeed. Not sure if our loss will be 1 or 3 but my gut senses loss indeed. 2 of those do NOT need to die however. argh!!! and if Lib is injured and on that property he needs help. I know we don't know. And if they don't have any there who love them like we do there will be no search party rescue or help either. :-(

To the scientist they make it pretty clear that to them they are wild animals and not pets. BUT we do have wild animal rescue in this country. How do we turn our heads to life in need. Especially threatened life!!!! I know I can't say endangered anymore but....

OK I have vented too and I am very upset in more than one way with how this day has shaped up.

Godspeed little one(s). Prayers for all creatures great and small, known and unknown needs.

paula eagleholic said...

Like I said, they've seen 2 eagles. Well duh we know that, we have an intruder. This is not our eagles normal behaviour with chicks in the nest.

Lori O. said...

Looking back, the intruder must have been near at 11:44 this morning when Belle twice hopped off the nest and took off only to make a very fast lap around the tree and sit on the stump at the edge of the nest.

movin said...

Afraid not, John. That was/is Belle in the nest, and those have been female territorial calls she has been making.

So, I wonder which male is above the nest....
You know the male with the marks on his head could have been Liberty, and the real challenger is a female, who is preventing Liberty from delivering food. Remember what that intruder female did at Norfolk?

C(°ٿ°)D Jim

NatureNut said...

Got pic of chicky waiting for parent.
What's w/John?

Mauley said...

I don't think my heart can take much more. I am ready to drive to NCTC and perhaps get put in Jail. Sister Sharon, are you with me? I am so hurt, I am almost sick with it. Praying for our "own" Eagle family earnestly.

Mema Jo said...

Paula, can you or do you even have time to email John again and let him know that the 2nd eagle was an
intruder. and send them the youtub video

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

Mauley, I am with you. I have to tell you all that I am so heart sick. Tears keep coming. I watch for a second and then I don't. I have to keep reminding myself that God is in charge and it is what it is but I don't have to like it.

Mauley said...

Where's Mits?

movin said...

Mits just commented on my FaceBook page, and she seems fine. She didn't say if she is watching the drama here or not.

C(°ٿ°)D Jim

PammySue said...

I don't understand how the professional(s) at NCTC can think that way. Yes, these animals are not pets, but how can you not care about them and want to help them if you can?

movin said...

I think Belle might have gone for fish herself.

C(°ٿ°)D Jim

glo said...

Dex and I took another walk to try to clear my head. He is getting good exercise today. I did have a new thought but not much better than the last ones.

WHAT AN INSULT THAT COMMENT IS TO THE SUPREME PARENTING PLAYED OUT BEFORE US YEAR AFTER YEAR BY THIS PAIR

I fear we know some but not all of what is going on: BUT we who actually watch these birds and this pair in particular KNOW this is not about 2 parents having a tiff with each other.

hedgie said...

Norfolk DID have their third hatch today!

glo said...

and MauleyI also thought if I lived near there by tomorrow morning I would be in danger of getting arrested myself but the plight of the little one/s would be in the news and maybe someone would decide Hands off is NOT the proper approach here!!!

I am not asking that anyone get the eaglet etc. JUST give Belle some easy access to fish for a couple of weeks, and give her half a chance to do this alone if she has too. GEEEESH!!!!

I am so stinkin unscientific.

paula eagleholic said...

Having internet problems here at work..if I disappear you'll know why.

I am babysitting the grandkids tonight, trying to leave work by 5

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, Gang,
I know I'm no expert, but IMHO, the eagle with the dark spot on its head in the video was too large to be Lib, and its tail feathers were too short to be Lib's,too. (Not to mention the fact that I totally cannot believe that Belle & Lib would have a spat and be avoiding each other with a new chick in the nest!) No disrespect to John, but I have to disagree with his story.

Lori O. said...

My dearest Eagle friends, my heart aches for all we is going through.

I must try to get some sleep.

PLEASE call me, Kate is up, if you are going to search for Lib. I will happily awaken to drive to WV with the Frederick contingent or caravan.

paula eagleholic said...

Jo, I don't have John's email, but I can send it to Randy...

PammySue said...

How long has Belle been gone this time?

paula eagleholic said...

Mits doesn't post here anymore.

NatureNut said...

I agree w/ you Glo. Lib would have brought lots of food---Spotty wasn't him.
I think we are going out to dinner, but I'll end up getting doggy bag. I hope Belle returns w/fish.
John is probably an OK guy, but wish/wonder if Steve had been informed. I know he's not there, but think he would make a difference w/info.

paula eagleholic said...

Belle left at 3:58..it's been an hour

Lori O. said...

AND... if this does not end happily would
Jo, Margy, Paula, Lynn or, someone who has my email address, PLEASE PLEASE email me the news. That would be better than reading the blog alone in the middle of the night.

I'm crying with you and will keep praying for Lib and Belle's, and Baby Paddy O'Joy's safety and health and for a happy reunion in the nest.

paula eagleholic said...

Kittenface, just saw the second video...thanks, that's what we saw too.

magpie said...

pretty busy here at work
but have been doing my best to follow what is going on

I am very sad about this
and am with all of you in spirit (( hugs ♥ ♥ ))

Ms Bookworm said...

Just a thought, but is anyone at NCTC looking for Lib on the GROUND? If he was injured somehow, he might not be flying around or sitting in a tree.

hedgie said...

Oh, my, I also disagree with John's comment. A bit too glib......and it WAS Belle on the nest all day yesterday, last night and today.

Mits and Ceil no longer watch our cam or blog.

Pam, know that you are with us in spirit even when we don't see you! Hope your grandma is doing okay....know she had a birthday recently!!

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, Margy,
(((HUGE HUGS))) back atcha! It HAS been quite a day so far. I'm SURE that Lib must be injured somewhere. He would've brought tons of wushi to the nest if he were able to do so! Hope that Belle returns with a fish. It's been quite a while since SHE'S eaten!

glo said...

Well if they think he is busy in the nest and spatting with his mate in the tree then NO they are not even thinking of going out to look for him in case he is injured. Makes me literally SICK!!!! Well and they are all going home now to enjoy their evening.

Unless anyone of them has been reading here instead of just OD and sees they might be wrong and need to go look or whatever. argh!!!

Why are they on OD and not here? I wonder about that too to be honest. I don't care if its both BUT WHY just there?

WV sUSAn said...

G and I will b n town tomorrow and join n a search. Planning to leave C'town at noon but that could certainly b changed. We've had all eyes on this nest since yesterday, a continuous vigil indeed on egg watch. We ALL know Lib has not been there since noonish yesterday

I mean no harm but that reply from J was nothing short of an insult. There I had to say my words and probably more to follow. Dag, what a long freakn two days.

Ms Bookworm said...

Oh, dear! On top of everything else, now Emma needs to go outside and go potty. Will BBIALW...

hedgie said...

Glo, we are all so emotional......Lori.....but keep in mind that the chances of them allowing us on the campus is probably slim to none. Our hands and feet are tied...........
just have to pray that smarter heads prevail.......Glo, if Belle still does not appear with food then maybe you could send Randy what you sent to Loretta.

hedgie said...

Margy, know you are busy, but glad you are following as best you can.

Diane said...

Wow, just logged on again. Very sad. :-( I haven't been able to read everything, but from am getting the jest of things...they won't help Lib if he is injured? That doesn't make any sense. The Wildlife Center of VA is always taking in injured eagles, what would make this any different??

PammySue said...

Hedgie, thank you. My Grandma is doing well for her age. It's just sad that my Mom's brother and sister do nothing to help. I take care of Grandma so my Mom can go to work. I think she needs to get out of the house to keep her sanity.

I agree with others that the assessment by John does not seem accurate.
You would think that someone would become a biologist (or whatever) because they care about wildlife.
My boyfriend Craig found an injured red-shouldered hawk along the interstate, and took it to a rescue center. It is being rehabbed now. We will probably go to it's release.
If that can be done, then why not do everything in your power to save a sweet little fluffy eaglet?

becky said...

Hi y'all. I was so excited when I got on today and saw the chick! But then I only saw one of the parents in the nest and that was for a short time. I am very concerned as well.
I hope the good folks at the NCTC will try to locate the parents - hopefully they are okay. And I just pray it will be in time to save the chick(s).
Sometimes it's very difficult to witness nature in action...

PammySue said...

I also wanted to say that part of the reason I have not been on here is because I have problems EVERY time I try to log in.
I have had to go back and create an account over and over. I don't know why. Sometimes I just get frustrated after 20-30 minutes and give up.

glo said...

Well Hedgie If someone from Hancock forum has contacted NCTC then my guess but not sure was that very nature of placing food for the adult to help her get the young to a point where they will not starve and she can raise them. Harry is a part of the Hancock Forum. Those there over the past few years eagle cams are online know the story. Harry has been very instrumental in working with the Hancock folks. I haven't been to their forum in a couple of years either. I may try to find my way there tonight and see if that may have been the nature of the call. I can think of nothing else they could do that far away except suggest what some have done in the past. YEP our hands feel very very tied indeed.

paula eagleholic said...

Don't blame John, he was passing along info from the "eagle expert"

I'll Try to check in later...

glo said...

Well Diann my guess is if they looked for and found Lib, they would help him, I could be wrong. BUT they aren't looking for him as they think they know where he is already and THEY HAVE NO PLANS TO HELP Belle with the eaglet/s at least not at this point.

Makes no sense at all. But I guess it does to them. Of course if they are thinking "If the pair lets them die, then so be it", but that is not what is happening here at all. In fact I think you would be very hard pressed to find that happening anywhere in any eagle nest. They do NOT desert their young as we have seen!!!

hedgie said...

There apparently is a young man on OC chat who is intent on getting to the eaglet.........oh-oh......I see trouble brewing..........

floralgirl said...

Take it easy on John, he's just relaying what he was told. He is very interested in these eagles also, and has been very helpful with the cam. Whatever NCTC's policy is on the nest, we'll have to respect that. But it would be nice to be able to walk around the area and look for an injured bird on the ground.

Mema Jo said...

I have been forwarding a lot of your emails to NCTC personnel...Randy, Thelma and Kelly just hoping they will
spread the word

I cannot look at our nest with those 2 little dark eyes staring out at us.
What in the world is going to happen...

PammySue said...

Apologies to John.

I just watched the videos that kittenface put up. Poor Belle. She is such a good mama. She is trying so hard to protect her baby.

Lolly said...

Okay, this was NOT the drama that I wanted to come home to. So, apparently Lib has never shown up and Belle has been gone a long time?

Excuse me while I go throw up!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Lord, please hold our precious eagles in the palm of your hand. These majestic birds have helped us to form friendships that will last for the rest of our lives, brought comfort when others could not, prayers like no other. I know we are powerless over this but my heart is so very, very heavy!! I love you all! Eaglet Momsters are the best in the world.

Robyn said...

I am back home and see no Lib yet, this is a part of our wildlife, if we weren't watching the cam our human nature would not be involved. I hope he returns and if not I have time tomorrow to head out to dam 5 and check around there but no boat so it would be on foot...

NatureNut said...

OMG, Lynn. I,m glad I'm not reading that, but I hope NCTC security is alerted!!

We are leaving for dinner, now. Was trying to stay til Belle returned. Will catch up later.

WV sUSAn said...

Oh Megan and all. I appreciate all NCTC does and do not mean to b disrespectful n any way. But... At such a critical time at the nest, I just so wish someone would at least take some time to see what we have already seen and be receptive to our assistance. We will have two hearty able bodies there and available to walk the area to get some answers. Whatever we can do. Ready and willing and loving our eagle family.

stronghunter said...

Since I am still at school, I cannot read what is on the forum under the cam image.Poor little one must be exhausted now.

glo said...

Well said Susan

glo said...

I don't know how much longer I can even read the comments of what is happening. Belle will be OK but as much as I love those who Blog here and our eagle pair I can't sit and read the hour by hour of the fate of this little one. I find myself wishing it had never hatched. I don't know what to say or do. And I am surely nOT saying don't talk aobut our little one. I will keep up the prayers and try to keep up the faith that we might have a miracle but given what we do know about our pair its just so out of character. I too think if Lib could be there we would have seen him by now indeed.
((((((all))))))))

paula eagleholic said...

Belle hasn't been back?

FuzzleMT said...

No, it's been two hours she's been gone!

PA Nana said...

Just checking back in but I see things haven't changed and now Belle has been gone a long time.
Poor Paddy. I hope she/he doesn't experience her/his own famine.

Thanks to everyone for sharing the pix and videos of today.

With all the drama today I forgot to wish everyone a (happy?) St. Patricks' Day. It sure started out happy and I certainly hope it ends well.

paula eagleholic said...

This just breaks my heart....

Red said...

I think it's too early to start crying and thinking the worst. Keep the faith people.

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

I have so been trying to do that Red but it is getting harder and harder.

hedgie said...

Right you are, Diann. We started the day with so many high hopes and Joy...

Thank God....Belle's back!!!!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Belle just came back and still has no food!! I don't understand!!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

The intruder must be there.

hedgie said...

She is still very vocal....for those who don't have sound.....

paula eagleholic said...

omg i heard Belle upstairs...she is back, but calling out again.

hedgie said...

DONNIE: are you lurking? What is the river like today???? Just wondering if there could be a problem with fishing.........

Diane said...

What is "OC"?

paula eagleholic said...

I think she's been trying to get rid of the intruder...and maybe trying to fish too. But it ain't easy.

Red said...

I used to watch a pair of eagles in Kent Washington and one season before the eggs hatched a male intruder attacked the father and ran him off. The female accepted him as her new mate but he refused to help her with the eggs and they did not hatch because because of the temps. Sometimes nature sucks.

FuzzleMT said...

Considering Belle came back WITHOUT food, it's possible she was up in a higher branch so she could see better - also, when she came down, I heard something up in the higher branch and she then started her defensive scream - just speculation for sure . . .

hedgie said...

Red......thanks for keeping the faith.....it is SO difficult.
Good to see you again!

hedgie said...

Diane-----Outdoor Channel.

Red said...

OC is outdoor channel

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

The difference in the sounds she is making is so distinct. I think that chirping is calling out for Lib and the screeching is running off the intruder. Lord, Lord, Lord.

stronghunter said...

I would think the rivers are very high right now with all of the recent rain. Maybe muddy. Fishing might be difficult. Just speculating.

Diane said...

Thanks, Hedgie!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

She is certainly on RED ALERT! Wow!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

What is on the side of her beak?

paula eagleholic said...

Is it the light, or does she have a dark spot on the right side of her beack...near her eye?

Gotta go again, will logon later from John's when the kids are asleep.

stronghunter said...

I have to get ready to attend a meeting here at school.

hedgie said...

Look at right side of Belle's beak, where the nostril is. People on OC say it's blood.....definitely looks different from the left side....

paula eagleholic said...

Def a spot on her beak.

Those people on the OD chat have not clue...most of them, anyways.

later

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Does Belle have something on the right side of her beak?

Lolly said...

Ok, have been reading back. Did not read all but got an idea of what has been going on. Saw the video. IMHO that was not Lib but an intruder. Poor Belle!

This is more than I can handle. Wish we were all together. I need a hug and I am sure all of you do as well. (((Hugs)))

stronghunter said...

BBL. Must go do my job.

hedgie said...

I think she just repelled the intruder again.

PammySue said...

What was that?

Mema Jo said...

Well I am watching again....

Well maybe NOT after that attack

Bob Quinn said...

Wow! Did you all see that attack by the intruder just now? This is not good.

hedgie said...

She was screaming and then flew and fluttered up in front of cam...

Judie said...

Just a question given the serious turn of events -- does anyone know how long PJ can survive without food?

This is a heart wrenching turn of events. That was NOT Lib on the nest earlier. It was an intruder and I believe Belle has some blood on her beak. Prayers for our eagles and the babe.

Lynne2 said...

I'm here, this is too much. Not really sure of all that has happened, but cam has been up most of the day and I've seem some upsetting things. No time to read back. Will check in later. Love you guys.

hedgie said...

Right you are, Lolly. I need a hug very badly. Those of you who have someone with you, ask them for one!

Lynne2 said...

I'm still at work, BTW, won't be home til 9ish

Bob Quinn said...

Lisa wondered if something has indeed happened to Lib how long Belle will go before she has to accept the new male (if the intruder is a male). I wonder what that would mean for the chick and egg?

Lolly said...

OMG Can not believe we just saw an eagle fight right here on the cam!
Bless Belle, she is going to defend the nest!

On a completely different subject. They are on the way to the bear den to put a collar on Lily and do some repairs.

PammySue said...

Hedgie, I also thought she was repelling the intruder. Maybe it was trying to get in the nest again.
Poor Belle.

Mema Jo said...

There is a mark on the beak - I'm sure from another's talon IMHO
I feel this is a female - Don't think a male would be fighting the female

I could be so totally wrong...
I may force myself to go watch the bears get collared....

movin said...

Did somebody get a video of that attack??

I think I must have been right; it IS a challenge by a female (a male would not attack a female, I don't believe). So, Liberty might be OK, just helpless to carry fish to the nest, the female can easily attack him and make him drop the fish. Probably how he got the marks on his head.

Anybody got another theory?

Judie, supposedly the yolk sac can provide all the necessary nutrition for a couple of days....but don't know if I believe that or not.

Intruder around again.

Did Belle bring fish back with her from her last trip outside the nest?

FuzzleMT said...

No, Jim, she did not bring any fish with her - I think she was on a higher branch repelling the other bird - my opinion - I believe she would have brought food otherwise.

hedgie said...

I am trying to choke down food that now tastes like cardboard...

hedgie said...

Oh, Jim.....it wasn't Lib with the head wounds.......it was the intruder.

Lolly said...

Understand that, Lynn.

Gosh I comment and delete. I open the Blog and I close it. I don't want to wonder alone and I don't want to know any more painful stuff. Its the road we are on BUT geeesh its just too too much.

I guess I need to hug Dex and or take him for another walk.

This is surely an example of agony and ecstacy over the years. There are no words now.

If Lib is OK and can't get there I can't watch them fight with Belle either, and she hasn't eaten nor can she feed her chick. This seems like a nightmare playing out before us.

I need to get away BUT I don't want to be alone. argh

82 here. Going outside with a glass of wine. Time to take a break from this.

hedgie said...

If Belle had been up in the tree defending, or Lib, too, for that matter, we should have still heard the screaming.

Well, Gang, I have to eat something quickly, and then decide whether I am going to class tonight to drop off the transcription I have completed. Lynn, I agree--food tastes like cardboard just about now. :O[

Jim - I also feel this is a female.

Earlier years - we had an intruder
No one was in the nest at the time
But I'll lay money down that the intruder then also had that spot on her head....
We even had a video - but Lord only knows where it was saved....
either by Glo or Paula

Ok I got response from NCTC personnel to whom I have been sending our emails. It's long & it's from Randy Robertson (our friend)
Thanks for the pictures Jo.
It does appear there was an "intruder" eagle on the nest today as your
photos show.

We know that Belle has been off the nest for long periods today (she
returned @ 6 pm)
I am only assuming this is Belle (not Lib) and I just noticed what appears
to be a little blood
on the right side of her beak. She seems ok otherwise.
I'm guessing she might have been in a fight.

All that said, it appears that another eagle may be trying to move in on
this territory.
I know the Momsters are upset. I reviewed the blog posts and can't figure
out
who "John" might be. I am not even sure he works at NCTC.

I will take a hike down the river and around the fields before it gets dark
and see if
Lib might be found anywhere.

I will let you know what I find ...... may be a couple hours though.

Randy

Just knowing that Randy is doing that makes me happy....

I want Belle to come back to the
nest - but she is determined to keep her nest........

I am so grateful that somebody is at least going to look. Thanks Randy! We love you!!!

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

WOW! Thanks so much Randy! Thanks Mema Jo! I don't know what the outcome of all this will be, but I am grateful to be going through it with you wonderful people.

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

I am going to a meeting, will check in from my phone from time to time. Please let me know if anything happens. Love and hugs!

Sharon and Sissy - you two are needed on here until we get through this together ------

I am so very very grateful that Randy is willing to go look before it gets darker and see if he sees or hears our Lib . If he needs help I so hope he is found. YES it is comforting to know someone is going to look.

Any comforting thought now is a blessing indeed. And yes he sounds like he does indeed have a clue what is happening. That too is good to know. Takes some of the sense of alone and nobody knows or cares that can do anything to help. Looking for Lib is a help!!!
Its a big help.

Belle back- I guess- and hollering!

floralgirl said...

She is back on the chick and egg and still very vocal.

Mema Jo said...

Belle has returned and is giving such shrill calls out to the
intruder I am sure.

PammySue said...

Mema Jo, thanks for sending info to NCTC and for posting their response.
Yay for Randy!

hedgie said...

Thank the Lord for Randy!!! And Jo for reaching him! I thought "John" was the guy who did the solar panel work.
Well, Randy is the man of the hour!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

It has been a long time since I have felt like this. I am here but it is so d^^^ painful!

Eagle-Eyed Shar said...

When that John would do anything, he would post on here as JohnNCTC so it is hard to tell who that was.

movin said...

I was going to note earlier and forgot that this chick reminds me of the only one that hatched a few years ago. It also took at least 40 days to hatch, and it too appeared to be bigger and stronger and more advanced than other newly hatched chicks.

I think the extra days in the egg are not wasted, and they develop more strength and control (and eye focusing ability).

Well I guess we are all learning a lesson or 2. I never wanted this lesson and definitely not at this nest with this pair.

Mema Jo said...

Hi Megan - Great what was that 'bang' again...

floralgirl said...

Yeah, this sucks... I just wish we could see what was happening off cam. Lib has to be around there somewhere.
Hey Jo

glo said...

Thats true Sharon and as I said earlier I don't understand why he would only be posting on OD and not here too.

Just such a tough confusing day indeed. The timing of that message just added insult to injury whether or not it was meant with good intent even from an "expert' Now of course we all ? if that "expert" ever even existed.

Thanks for the encouragement Jim.

Good evening Eagle Fans.

It took a while to get to the end of this thread. : )

I was trying to read all the exciting posts and when I got to one by Lori that said

"Look at her darling big old wobble head! Someone put a pink dress on her quick!"

Well, I just couldn't laugh hard enough to get all that joy out.
