My students are stapling paper chains . . . aka "spirit links." The usual requests are being made . . . "May I go get another stapler from Mr. So and so? . . . Scotch tape won't work, etc., etc. (Ms. Philllips has taught all these years without learning how to make paper chains????) Bet Judie doesn't get to make paper chains!!

Gotta put together an intro to the video for my seniors on baby girls in China.
Just checked with a resource teacher for one of my senior girls. Mom called to request a lighter workload for her daughter because she is spending so much time at her after-school job. I do not think this fits into her IEP. (Individual Education Plan).
Resource teacher said he just wanted me to know what I was dealing with. What would happen if I announced an assignment and excused this girl because she has a job? How many moms would I hear from tomorrow . . . real or fake moms? Sometimes I still get amazed.

Good Morning All! Up/running for visit to Dracula - regularly scheduled.
I am still beaming when I think about the weekend.... AWESOME is an incomplete word of description !
Suzanne sent me lots of pics from this morning's visits - Our Royal Couple is certainly busy - bet they felt the Frost coming in!
Spirit Links--It is spirit week at the school--build-up for homecoming game and dance.
Every day is a dress-up day. Students pay 5 cents each for spirit links that we staple or tape together into blue and gold chains and hang in the room. Class with most links wins.
By the end of the week, rooms are decorated with links which are collected and taken to help decorate for the homecoming dance.
I have only 8 students in my homeroom, so we are not likely to win. I started the donations with $5.00 and the kids added their money--about $5.00 more.
If they bring in enough money, we'll be making paper chains all week. I gave them the last part of the block to work on the chain for our class. They still have to do their work.

Speaking of homecoming - Megan told us that Shepherdstown homecoming was this weekend NOT last weekend when we had Open House. They had a football game but not parade & huge crowd. Rain didn't stop the game!

Our day yesterday was great. Thank you for the birthday wishes for Joseph. He had a great day. He loves his new NY Giants bedroom and it does look cute. (YUK!) The guys threw a football outside, we grilled hamburgers, and watched the three boys together. Jacob still thinks of Zach as a baby. Jacob is 17 months older and is taller but Zach weighs more. Anyway, Jacob was telling Zach to eat his brocolli and was feeding him. Laurel got a picture. So funny!

Hi Lolly - sorry I missed out sending Birthday wishes for Joseph, sounds wonderful, as usual...when you have time with the boys.
My kindergarten students made paper chains. We did it every Christmas. They sat on the floor in groups of two and glued theirs. Then we would fasten them all together and they were so excited to see the long chains. Then decorated the room.

Glue? And my students say they can't use tape! Think how much fun they would have if I let them run about the building gathering staplers! And of course everyone else is using theirs!
Yep. good ol' Elmer's glue. Have to let the chain sit there for a short while, but it works great. The kids loved learning how to make the chains and we did it in pattern!!!!!! Red...Green! lol

Spirit Week leading up to Homecoming used to be so much fun. Each day was a different theme... like 'Inside Out'
or 'Backwards' (clothing items)
Mix Match (plaid shirts and striped pants or whatever) Old memories of my own and of the high school where I worked as Secretary (I got to send all those nasty letters home from the principal).
Blood work: I walked in - no one there whatsoever - signed my name - gave some blood and came on home!
Some days are better than others! lol
I would have gone into the post office but they close for an hour or two at lunch! Cutting cost I guess. I sometimes wonder how much they are losing due to paying bills on line...

About 20 penguins at the MD Zoo in Baltimore... I wish I knew what the ducks were - black & white but webbed feet - at first I thought they were a different kind of penguin with a long neck and bill!

Hello! Finally home and settled in from VA visit. Not only lab and Dr., but then SIL wanted to visit his in-patient bro, who was being released while we there. SIL has dropped 22 lbs. in a month---so very proud, and doc was VERY happy!
Saw lots of frost while driving....SO glad I have the garage----4 yrs. this month!! And tree canopy kept frost off my surfaces.
Did get a peek at our lovely duo this AM!! Sure is a good sign that they are hanging out....was a bit acraid they might decide to relocate!!!
Saw my first black-capped chickadees today!! Wonder where they go for the summer? Of course, mentioned previously, titmice and nuthatches have been back for a couple of weeks.
Margy, forgot to tell you that I saw a big sand crane in one of the ponds at Laurel Ridge S/D Sat. AM on way to S'town!
When Suz and I went to the Birds of Prey room Sat., a lady asked me to take a pic of her holding the screech owl---I did, but she hasn't e-mailed me yet so that I can send it to her!
Also, the young girl handling the birds knows of my cousin Jeannie who is an archaeologist with the National Park Service (currently at Bankhead National Forest in Alabama)---she has read some of her works, and wondered if she could talk to her; again, gave her my email address to reach me so that I could refer her to Cuz---no word from her yet, either!
Wow- looooong day- but nice sunny day out there. No word from Sissy yet? Did she make it home with my eagle?
We had a day and a half of sun, it was so nice. Back to clouds today with more rain tomorrow. :(

Sorry so late!! We got home today around 12:30 and had to take the rental car back, having to work some, put away stuff, you know the drill!! I did post some pics on the Yahoo Momsters site. My wonderful new house mate, George, is doing great! (Sorry Megan). He is so beautiful. He is wearing eagle beads and loves his new home!! We had a blast with ya'll Saturday and then another great time at the zoo and Washington Mall yesterday. Just an all around great weekend. I am so grateful for friends like ya'll! You enrich our lives so much!!!

Hey Sissy, I'm trying to forgive you, give me time...lol...
Good evening! Relaxing in my recliner.
Been fussing with the bank. I have online banking. Have tried to have an automatic transfer from my checking each month applied to credit card just so I won't have a late payment. I figure I can just go in and pay more when I want to, but absentminded Shirley will not have a late charge.
After trying several times to set it up and having it disappear as if I had done nothing, I went to the bank. Two people at two different branches said they would get back in touch with me and would set it up.
They didn't, so I went to the bank with all my stuff and sat down and told them what I wanted. I thought everything was fine. Nope. Just got a late fee, even though I had a credit of more than the minimum payment because I had returned a defective car battery.
So far, I have talked to three people and they are all working on fixing it. They tell me the late fee is waived. I said I was about to close the account. I think those were the magic words.
Thanks for listening to my rant.
The pandas loved me. Tai blew kisses!! ROFLMBO! Seriously, it was amazing getting to stand there and watch them. The whole zoo was wonderful. I am going to a panda for Halloween. Got me a panda mask, figure that, black sweat pants and a white sweat shirt with the sleeves dyed black and such should do the trick!!

I've found credit card companies are pretty good about waiving a late fee when your reason for getting it is a good honest one.
It can be so aggravating, all the electronic stuff though....I always wonder how elderly people deal with all this kind of stuff, and I don't mean US, I mean, elderly...

Hey Lynn- is this accurate -if you take the H1N1FluMist, you will in fact become a carrier of the H1N1 flu. Information on this drug states that you can and will shed the virus for up to 21 days. That means as you are visiting with your elderly family members, or shopping in the isles of your grocery store or sitting in church with young children and people with immune problems, You are going to be shedding the virus H1N1 germs.
There is a guy who lives near here who used to always have chain-saw art on display in his yard---should stop sometime to see if he has any eagles! He had to stop leaving them out because they got stolen---Margy, remember on the left just before the Sleepy Creek bridge as you start heading up towards Spohr's Crossroads?

Just want to let you know I'm still around--we're getting ready to go out for pizza for dinner.
Went with daughter and sister-in-law to Spa Gregorie's in Newport Beach for a 1 hr. Swedish massage this morning! Aaaaaaaahhhhhh...absolutely heavenly! Feel as relaxed as a huge lump of Jell-O! That place is really luxurious! Went shopping after that, then to Cheesecake Factory for lunch. Have been running all day, but having all kinds of fun!
Will try to catch up on the blog and say hello later when we get home. Prayers for everyone; sorry, Margy, to hear about your friend's Mom! ((Hugs)) Prayers for her and her family! Oops--gotta go now, or they'll leave without me! Later....

In clinical studies, transmission of vaccine viruses to close contacts occurred only rarely. The current estimated risk of getting infected with vaccine virus after close contact with a person vaccinated with the nasal-spray flu vaccine is low (0.6%-2.4%). Because the viruses are weakened, infection is unlikely to result in influenza illness symptoms since the vaccine viruses have not been shown change into typical or naturally occurring influenza viruses.

VA has a really neat drive-thru for flu shots. But didn't need to use it as Son-in-law got his during his regular apptmt. last month!
Did you hear that they shut down St. James Academy for this week because of it, Megan?
Yeah, they had around 28 cases of flu, I think.
We both was able to get them at the senior center in Chambersburg. They only had them for 2 hrs.
Whoops, it was 38 kids with flu, two confirmed to be swine flu.
