Just wanted to say hello to everyone this morning. I am at home right now, but about to get ready to go to work. No students today, and I am fighting a cold, so I have been working from home, but need to go in for awhile to get some things.

Heard from Suz this am----she has a meeting Monday and is exploring possibilities....her company says they can place all of them somewhere. She is looking forward to watching 60 Minutes sunday night for the first time in ages!!

Thought I was going to be blowing leaves today, but so far Mother Nature is working against me---wind is blowing and it has been drizzling off and on...hopefully sun will come out this afternoon and I'll be able to get on it!

Norma, I asked Shannon if the goat meat tasted like chicken....ha, ha....definitely NOT!! He offered a taste, but Christie and I both refused!
She didn't eat all of her chicken and I had some cocoa bread left----and walked off and left the doggie box on the table! Can you believe it?? Was kicking myself when I got home.

Hey, Shar---glad you made it! Is Mattie with you, too?? How is she feeling?

paula eagleholic said...

Awww Lynn, don't ya hate when that happens!

hedgie said...

Paula, makes me feel stooooopid!! "Dumb lady asks for a box, wastes our box...and then leaves it." Can hear them now!

hedgie said...

Speaking of dumb....forgot to tell you all that I heard a police call earlier this week....some guy actually called the police because his yard had been TP'ed!! Can you believe it? Gee....wonder if they got fingerprints?? Duh.

I put Harriet on the eaglecam today.

For your info, Harriet will be on the Today Show, Fri morning Nov 6. Jeff Corwin is promoting a book and he invited Harriet to join him when he's on the show.

Harriet has been on the Today show with Jeff Corwin before in 2007 when he was promoting his Into Alaska program.

Lolly said...

Good morning!

Lynn, last time we ate out I left the "doggie box". Made me sooo mad! That was supposed to be my lunch the next day!

Wanda, see that you got your answers to your questions about Meredith on Grey's. Hope today is a GREAT day for you in the shop.

We have SUN this morning. Wahoo! It is presently 54...sunny and chilly.

Going to Denton tomorrow. Going to a soccer game, going to watch TCU on TV up there, taking lasagne for our supper, and then handing out candy while Laurel takes the boys trick or treating. We do not get children here. So we go up there and have fun!

Costume Lady said...

Break time...
Lynn, I did read your message about Meredith's organ donation. Thanks, I've been wondering.
Leaving your doggie bag is not nearly as bad as leaving your purse, which I did. One night at the China City, I just walked off and left it on the floor. Got home and realized what I had done...went back and it was still on the floor where I left it. Miracle! STOOPID!!

Costume Lady said...

Hi, Lolly...sounds like a fun day with your family. Don't eat too much candy;)

Lolly said...

I have an incident to tell you about....would like your input.

Joseph is on a soccer team with Hispanics. No problem with that. His coach is Hispanic as well. He is not a great coach, but he is kind to the boys. His son is on the team as well. At the last couple of games two of the fathers have taken over. Continuously yelling and coaching from the sideline.....all in Spanish. The coach just let them take over rather than confront them. The coach yells in English, but seldom coaches from the sideline. Well, yesterday Laurel took Joseph to practice. No one showed up except the coach and his son. He spent the time coaching those two boys and Joseph loved it. The coach pull Laurel aside saying he needed to talk to her. Joseph knows nothing of this. It seems the two fathers have really taken over and were holding a practice somewhere else, leaving out Joseph and the coaches son. Laurel was stunned and did not know what to say. When she got home she told Joey she was going to call the soccer commissioner. She was furious! Joey said no, he is going to confront those two fathers Saturday at the game. He can be very intimidating at 6' 6" and close to 300 lbs. Joey speaks some Spanish's and he is going to tell them no more coaching in Spanish and that what they have done is completely wrong, specially for the boys. Really do not know all that he plans to say, but Saturday should be interesting.

hedgie said...

Wow, Lolly.....wrong, wrong, wrong. And very unfair! Feel that Joey, while intimidating, may not get a good reaction to a confrontation. I'm with Laurel----go to the commission. Those fathers need someone who is in charge to address the whole thing.

Wanda, thank goodness your pocketbook was safe! Thankfully, I've never done that. Yep, Lolly, it was going to be my lunch! Drat.

hedgie said...

Seriously bad air collision off Catalina last night---Coast Guard C-130 and a Marine chopper......massive search underway for survivors.

Lolly said...

Yes, I think it should be taken to the commissioner. And, on top of being totally wrong, it was also reverse discrimination. So glad Joseph has no idea of what is going on. Interesting thing is Danny, the coaches son, and Joseph are the two best players. ?????????

paula eagleholic said...

Well, if that doesn't work for Joey, then they should go to the soccer commission.

Bird Girl said...

Hi everyone :)

Lolly said...

Paula, thanks for the new cam. It is really neat to look at Harriet. What a bird!

Bird Girl said...

I agree -- going to the commissioner is the wise choice. IMHO.

paula eagleholic said...

Hey Delphia, how are ya?

Mema Jo said...

Lolly I say go to the commission with the coach and explain the situation & file a complaint - something in writing. Hopefully Joey and the coach's son could be placed on another team to finish out the season while this is being handled. I hate it when adults take away from the games for kids.

paula eagleholic said...

Did you notice the talons on her?

Mema Jo said...

Out of here for lunch!

BBL

hedgie said...

If the other fathers form a rogue league, who can they play against? Certainly not a sanctioned team. Really teaching their kids great sportsmanship, aren't they?

Lolly said...

Oh, yes. And something just caught her attention and she grew in height. lol And, I love the way that sometimes it looks like she is looking right at the camera.

Lolly said...

It is not fair to Danny or Joseph to go to an established team. And, it just messes up the whole schedule to dismiss the team. They should be barred from games. Period!

Lolly said...

Back is doing better. Yesterday I took muscle relaxers all day, not just at night. It has helped! Going to get up now and start moving around.

paula eagleholic said...

Wonder what the human in jeans is doing?

hedgie said...

Candy is ready for trick or treaters. We get almost two hundred. The school over the next block has a party on the football field and the kids come and then they come to the neighborhood. Good time. We sit out front and see all the costumes. Love it.

Mits said...

we only get about 30, if we are lucky:(..house around the corner sets up a halloween house, and everyone goes there.

hedgie said...

Your cupcakes sounds yummy, Ceil!! Have been here for 17 years and never had a single T or T'er.
Lolly, glad your back is feeling better. Those crazy muscle relaxants make me groggy for 24 hrs. after taking just one---don't know how you are functioning!
Hi, Jim. Keeping our fingers crossed for Suz for sure!

Wish we would get trick or treaters, but the houses are just too far apart. Houses are on 1 to 4 acres and ours is back from the road. When the kids were little they would go to the church for a party, then trick or treat just to a few houses. Now we just turn off all lights, lock up, and go to Laurels. Oh and I bring in my scarecrow and pumpkin. Looks like Scrooge lives here!!!!

ceil said...

I don't put out pumpkins or mums any more They have a game called pitch the pumpkin and it is not the kids but the drunk adults.
I have a large window that I decorate. Lynn it has a lighted spider in it and my basement window that the little ones can see easily.

Lolly said...

Just went out and collected about 24 pecans. They are almost all gone now. Funny story...Jack has the pecans in mesh bags hanging from the rafters of his shop. He noticed a hole in the bottom of one bag and thought it had just rotted. They he found another bag with a hole...mmmmmm. So last night he set a live animal trap thinking he would get a rat. Nothing! Well, he left for a while this morning. I was standing at the back door looking out and there was a squirrel standing on his hind legs, with his front paws on the garage door of the shop. Looked like he was knocking on the door, saying let me in. He thought he had found his pecan heaven! Now the door has to stay shut when Jack is not there.

ceil said...

All poor squirrel.

Lolly said...

Let him eat all the acorns he wants! I get the pecans!

Mema Jo said...

Good afternoon - still very bleak looking here but no rain yet.
Remember tomorrow to go to SD zoo page:

Beginning Saturday, October 31, through Tuesday, November 3, you’ll see the final five names, and you’ll get to vote once for your favorite name. We will have the Chinese characters, the name in pinyin, and, of course, the English translation.

Mema Jo said...

Penguins at Baltimore Zoo are having races in the water it looks like. lol

floralgirl said...

Aha clever squirrel... Keep him out of our pecans.
Just picked a deer tick off my leg-luckily he was moving, and hadn't bitten me. Now of course I am paranoid there might be more on me.....

Mema Jo said...

The pandas are either eating or sleeping I'll be glad when Diego gets a little older and wants to PLAY/FIGHT with Bai.

Mema Jo said...

Yuck! Go check for ticks all over....
They are so small... Isn't there anytime they aren't around?

Mema Jo said...

floralgirl said...

They are always around, waiting....
lol....it hasn't been cold enough yet for them to be gone. Funny, cause I have been outside all day, but when I got home I put on my crocs and walked out to the woods, and that is probably when the bugger got on me- was crawling up my leg under my jeans..gotta go look again...

hedgie said...

Here's an interesting tidbit......the Omaha city zoo holds the most species of any zoo in the US. Hard to believe, huh?

hedgie said...

Yep, takes a hard freeze before the ticks are gone......and they come back early---late winter!! Megan, you were lucky to see it.
Ceil, glad I don't get to see your display!! Sorry :(

Hi everyone. Just checking in on this dreary day. PT went pretty good today. Not much more pain when I left. I also have a bit more range of motion - yipee! The hard work is paying off.

Of course I missed any visits to the nest since Wednesday, but, hey, I'll catch them again - guaranteed!

When do they start "dating" seriously and when can I expect them to start another brood? I'm really looking forward to it. Must go for now.

Hi, Everyone!

I've been playing hookey from the blog today--have been studying hard for tonight's Anatomy test. It should be a tough one. Got signed up for next semester last night. Will have Formatting on Mon. & Wed., 6-10 pm, and Practice I on Tues. & Thurs., 6-10 pm. Second quarter, the Formatting class changes to Research Skills.
So I will have school on Mon. thru Thurs. nights. That ought to keep me out of trouble! LOL

EAGLE ALERT!!!

PA Nana said...

Lynn, still have to do the "homework" but no passive stretching until Monday.

hedgie said...

So, Diann, the sweet spooning will probably start in another month or so, with hanky panky commencing in the early part of January----correct me if I'm wrong, Paula! Egg laying will occur the end of Jan./early Feb. Bet we'll have you glued to the cam by then!!

Good Evening Folks.
Today is my Mother's birthday...she would have been 100 years old. She died in 1993 at age 83.

Hope it is a good night for everyone. Weather, not so great in the Four-State are of VA,Pa,Md and WV....hope it improves for trick or treating.

floralgirl said...

Well, hope your day was full of good Mom memories, Margy:)

magpie said...

Well thanks gals. I was the caboose, last one of 8, she was 41 when I was born.
She loved Russell Stover candy...and instilled that same love in all of us! And she was a good cook. I do have many nice memories. She would read Little House in the Big Woods to us, loved that.
She was a good gal, got Alzheimer's though so we really took the loss of her in the
mid-80's.
xo ♥

magpie said...

I've been meaning to mention this.
Sandy Burk will be in Martinsburg at the Public Library on Nov 17 at 3:30 (I think that's the time) to help get an Ecology Club going with local school students. Cool Huh? I have to work that evening but will try to get a switch if I can so I can go. She is a great gal...her degree is in Marine Biology!

magpie said...

And Randy Robinson of NCTC confirmed that that "thing" in the nest that we joked was a baloney sandwich, was a tray of meat like hamburger from - somewhere - he thought he had some videos of it captured and was going to try to find them. Paula had gotten videos of that too of course...we had a good laugh about on Open House dinner night. ☺

magpie said...

I can wear a costume to work Saturday if I like...it has to be "in good taste" of course, so I am seriously thinking about wearing flannel pajamas! How comfortable that would be, elastic waistband of course, eat more candy and treats and not worry about popping a button! ☺

magpie said...

Hope anyone that is not feeling so good, starts to feel better soon.

Some of my relatives are starting to report feeling kind of puny.
Not Me, though.

Mema Jo said...

good old dingdawn !!

Lolly said...

Yes!!!! ROFLMBO

Lolly said...

Whoa! The cape is back and I did not see it happen. Did the bear put it on snowman?

Mema Jo said...

Sometimes I can be a ding dong but never a dingdawn!

I am thankful Joey made that call
and I really hope things can be resolved BUT I know how some parents can act. Like you suggested the best would be to bar those 2 parents from the games.

stronghunter said...

Did not see the bear, Jo, but I saw the comment, then I saw a man come and straighten up the snowman and put the cape back on. The man was wearing what looked to be flowered shorts.

Man probably scared the bear off.

Mema Jo said...

Now we both missed it and that would have been the best part

Let's see what dingdawn says.....

stronghunter said...

Yes, it is good Joey made the call. The commissioners need to be aware of something like that going on.

Mema Jo said...

OK Ken - the owner or whatever put it back on.

Did you see what dingdawn said

dingdawn "how is jo tonight?" lol

Mema Jo said...

Thanks Shirley - I wonder if that was Ken's sleeping wear?

Lolly said...

Yes, I am very happy he called. I always think problems should be solved by those in power! And, those two fathers have not been cleared. All coaches have to cleared and okayed to coach. Yes, isn't it a shame that this has happened. Thankfully, Joseph has no idea what is going on. However, there is tomorrow. Hope they can keep it from him. The other already know.

Glad you saw Ken, Shirly. Snowman is called Woody, guess I should call him by name.

Mema Jo said...

Hope your back doesn't hurt much when you laugh, Lollie.

Shirley I have had my belly laugh for this evening concerning the CAPE.

I am going to see what is on TV at 10.

They say we are going to get free H1N1 shots at school. They asked whether we want the nasal spray or the injection, and I said I need to know more about the differences. Anybody out there know?
