Yippee! Hadn't been able to access the blog all day. Emailed Lynn to find out if I missed something about losing access. She said no problems -- BUT -- she's the magic charm. I was able to access after her reply. Thanks, Lynn. Hope your brother has a safe trip.
Paula, glad college boy is free to enjoy the college experience without a load of emotional baggage.
Diann, very sorry about George. Sending prayers for you and his family. Also prayers that the pain lessens and surgery will be a successful with speedy recovery.
Norma, so happy you were able to talk with Davin and she is beginning her recovery.
Andrea, test prayer coming your way for tonight.
Hi Lolly, Jo, Mits, Wanda, Meagan, and anyone else I missed along the way.
Back to reviewing the visual system for tomorrow and more about serial killers.
Glad Andy and Judie made it in the door!!! If anyone heard about the bludgeoning deaths of a family and visitor in Farmville, VA by a "goth"-type boy---the visitor was a local 17 y.o. girl who was a dropout from my gd's high school. Really sick. A Presby minister, his estranged wife who I think was a college professor, their daughter and this girl had all been to some sick-sounding concert out west somewhere and the girl hooked up with this guy and guess he came back with them.......can't imagine parents condoning this sort of thing. Judie....input??
Nothing eats stink bugs (except apparently Sharon's vacuum), that's the problem!!! I bet there's about 350 of them on the west side of my house right now...every window screen is just covered. Gross, useless, troublesome bugs. Thinking of filling a large box with them and sending them back to China! Howdy all:)
Darn... then it must be true...summer is over:( When I am in the garden, I drop them into a bucket with a little bleach and water in the bottom. I do this about twice a day in my sunflower patch...last sunflower crop of the year and the d*#* bugs are trying to destroy them. Often I just cut them in half with my clippers, gross...but satisfying..revenge is sweet.
Hey Lolly- have you ever heard of mosquito dunks? Just google the phrase- they are made with Bt-i, a biological pesticide that only targets mosquito larvae. You can use them in birdbaths and ponds, they last about 30 days. They are not harmful to birds or fish.
I am going to throw out the bag this evening, it is full anyway - of stink bugs and dog hair! :) Air conditioners are going to have to go because that is where they are coming in!
This is a video of the dremel procedure they do on Buddy to maintain his beak. Thanks WCVAnnsVA for the video.
CAUTION: Dremel procedure performed by Dr. Dave McRuer, Wildlife Center of Virginia veterinarian, to maintain alignment of "Buddy's" beak. May not be suitable for viewing if you're sensitive.
Very interesting video on Buddy. It took him a lot longer to go under than little ToTo, but pretty much the same procedure. Toto didn't have to have the tube in the throat.
iT'S hot, 94°, here today with 25% humidity. The weather alert that they took off is back on for the rest of the week for high temps and desert winds. However it appears that the high press. area over the Great Basin is not too strong this time; so we will have the desert conditions inland and in the mountains, but starting tomorrow the coast will cool somewhat with a return of weak onshore winds..... Kind of a screwy forecast, I hope you get it.
Wow! Great video on Buddy. He is very special. Remember....Jack and I visited the Norfolk Botanical Garden to see the nest when he was just an egg. lol
We have stink bugs, but apparently not like you all have stink bugs. It just is not a problem here. Interesting!
Yes, Megan, know about the tablets to drop in for mosquito larvae. We have them to put in the ditch in front when water is standing. In our pond we have mosquito fish that take care of larvae. The pond is not a problem. The problem is standing water EVERYWHERE.
Just out of curiosity, has anyone else had trouble getting on the Blog? I kept getting message "There are errors on this page." thought I had been blocked there for awhile, had to shut down the computer and that did the trick I guess.
Well, frig offered no inspiration. Hubby had meeting so I just decided to wait until hunger becomes a priority.
Didn't watch the Buddy video. Interesting thing about me, I can look at horrible crime scenes but not animal things. I guess it's because I feel animals are at our mercy but humans can make choices most of the time.
Okay, off to do a little pleasure reading. Will return.
Margie, I had to redo my email and password. Blog cop refused to post anything for about 4 hours. Got the same message as you. Don't know what the problem was. Try a redo of your email and password. I just submitted the same ones I had originally submitted and worked like a charm.
Ok thanks, Judie... I will try that next time if I have to, I got lucky this time....always afraid I will end up in never never land when I redo ANYTHING on the computer... PS you don't need to leave the night light on for me...I won't need it tonight
I liked PA PIX when it was a simple little refresh cam....nice to see movement and have sound, but I hate chat rooms, and don't like the distraction it makes
Great tribute to Patrick Swayze on Dancing With the Stars....THE dance scene from Dirty Dancing!!! Very well-done! Night, Margy. Peace for you tonight.
Lolly - that chat room (which I wish I could delete it and just watch the cam) is where the Eastern Texan mentioned about watching the fishing boats coming in at Port Aransas...
Wow hope the TV comes back for top Chef...missed last week, was watching the rerun. Missed DWTS too, was mowing and sweeping...yes in the dark! Who got voted off?
Anne - love your kuhgtung bugs! Did you see any yet?
Judie- they have to keep trimming/dremeling Buddy's beak because it's crooked from the avian pox. Not sure when they will have to stop doing that.
Well, here to say goodnight. Early day tomorrow for teaching the wannabe adults.
Thanks for the explanation about Buddy. Hope it won't have to happen very often.
Turning my light off now. But leaving the night light on for others except the Magpie -- she'll just have to stumble around if she gets up in the middle of the night.
Sleep well, everyone and let's hope to hear from Dana tomorrow.
Very quiet on the blog today. A little excitement with a picture on the old "Blue Box". Wonder what it means? STINK BUGS? I have a gazillion of them. Right now, they are flying around my desk lamp...in my hair and my face. Ewwww! I am about to google them and see if they have come out with a deterrent or an instant kill remedy. Leaving a flashlight for MARGY, in case she has to get up during the night...Judie didn't leave a light on for her;);)
Good Evening, Everyone! Just got home from school, and am getting caught up on the blog. Paula, thanks for the video of Buddy! Amazing what they're doing with him. Bless his heart. Judie, it's not real scary--it's kinda like getting your fingernails trimmed and shaped. They did a wonderful job of bringing his upper and lower beak into alignment so he can eat OK. Otherwise, he'd be in sorry shape. See that Jim gave a weather report for our general area out here earlier. I was just glad I wasn't in Long Beach today--this morning they had a marine layer (beach fog), and 100% humidity, but no rain. I don't know how hot it got there today, but it was 98 in Anaheim! Yuck!
Judie and others, Thanks SO much for your prayers for me regarding school! Got last week's Pharmacology test back, and got 100% on it!!! Thank the Lord!! Boy, did I have fun getting to school tonight--Jim, you'll probably understand what I'm describing here--The 57 freeway was a complete parking lot when I got on it! Miley Cyrus was appearing at the Honda Center, and an Angel game had just let out!!! Woof! Had to work my way past all that. Surface streets would've been even worse, I'm sure. Glad that doesn't happen too often!
BTW, I'm mighty grateful there are NO stinkbugs here, but there IS a HUGE katydid on my front screen door tonight! Gosh, do you have the same problem every year?
Almost forgot to mention that a mockingbird seems to have moved into our yard. He was scolding me as I filled the bird feeders and watered plants this morning. Heard him singing a little while later, though! Nice to have one back again after a couple of years without one. Hope he has a family. Well, I'm pretty tired, and my brain is officially fried at this point, so I think I'll say good night. Prayers being said for Diann and George's family, for Norma and her daughter Davin and family, for Tom & Sissy & Tom's Mom, for Dana & Ed, for Jim,and for everyone who just needs a good rest tonight. Have sweet dreams! The night light is on, just so nobody trips or bruises their shins, the porch light will see you coming, and the eye scanner is enabled. G'night! :o]
didn't stumble and fall during the night... Judie had my permission not to leave the night light on for me ☺ But that flashlight helped Wanda when I first got up ☺
It does seem way too early to be up but I bet I am not the only one...
Best Wishes for a Great Day Everyone
Prayers for all our loved ones on here and all those we continue to pray for....and new needs we don't even know about yet.
GOOD MORNING EAGLE BUDDIES!---CONGRATS ANDREA!---You ACED another test!!!!---I feel anyone that can drive in that CA traffic--CAN CONQUER THE WORLD!---ho!---
Hello all:) Nice morning, but 91° humidity... Still have at least 3 or 4 hummers, but the garden has gotten very quiet... I hate when they leave:( On the other hand, I have plenty of stink bugs, and I am now offering them for sale for your Halloween parties or haunted houses. $5.00 per hundred, I will pay shipping and handling costs.
Good idea, Megan. Need a partner in your stinkbug venture. I have plenty. I even found about 10 inside my medical dictionary when I picked it up! Made my day!
Well, thanks. Cause I have heard of kaolin spray before, and I will be looking into it for next year to protect my late sunflower crops. I didn't realize it might work for stink bugs. Sharon, I will be glad to partner with you to up the inventory - live bugs only please, we do have quality control. And...this is really gross- but if you cut a stink bug in half, the head part walks away...ewww...it is creepy- these of course will cost extra.
Megan, you remind me of IRMA BOMBECK...you may be too young to remember her. Her wit, humor and books were great. Gene told me that he say a wren eating the BUGS off our screen. Not enough wrens...too many bugs:(
We are going to try this:
. Treat the outside of your home with chemical repellents. The best time to do this is during fall before they start to migrate inside your home. Spray the surrounding area as well as the outside of your home with cypermethrin. It is a synthetic compound that is primarily used as an insecticide. In insects, it is a fast-acting neurotoxin. While it is easily degraded with applied to soils and plants, when applied indoors on inert surfaces, it can be effective for weeks. Use a sprayer to spray the chemicals (For sprayer information, read The guide to sprayers). However, since a stink bug's outer skin is tough and may not be easily vulnerable to normal sprays, use what is called a “spreader sticker”. The sticker will allow the pesticide to penetrate much faster. Spray the treatment up as high as you can outside your house and allow it to drip down for complete and thorough coverage. A well-sprayed structure will provide an invisible wall of defense that the stink bugs will not be able to penetrate. Most homes will require two to three gallons of the treatment to get good coverage so it's up to you whether it is worth it to have added protection from stink bugs.
Good luck, Wanda:) And yes, I loved Erma Bombeck, of course I was a mere child when she was popular:) She had some great quotes, like" Housework, if you do it right, will kill you."
Good morning! Great to get on here and have some smiles provided. Thank you! Sorry about the stink bugs, thank you for the amusing commentary about them. Megan, you are very generous, but NO THANKS. Guess each part of this country has it's own problems. Presently we are enjoying wonderful weather. It was 58 this morning! More rain expected, but not downpours.
Worked yesterday cleaning a paper pile by the computer. Made Jack happy. Today going to attack my craft drawers. Have a dresser that is bulging. Need to de-clutter it. Boy, I am in a de-clutter mood! lol
Good late morning all. Acorns kept me awake last night! Roof hits sounded like gunshots....argh! Good little breeze so they are still hitting. Leaves coming down and it really looks like later fall....but temp is still NICE!
If anybody is watching So You Think You Can Dance....the first guy who performed this week, Teddy Tedholm, is a nepohew or cousin of a former co-worker....very unique young man.
Congrats on another A++++ Andrea!
Wanda, sounds like an awful lot of work for Gene!!! Hope it works and isn't too expensive. Some of those kinds of treatments can be up to a $100/gallon!!
Train...heard something about it...forget..... These little buggers started out in PA, imported from Asia. They are mostly in MD, NJ, Delaware, but they are having a problem in Oregon, and have been reported in California..so beware..
Hi gang, made hommous this morning with Bill. Its fun to cook with him. Oh and please get rid of the bugs before I get there. Its gray, muggy and cloudy here.

Good afternoon my peeps!
Hi, Sharon!! How be ya'??
Hi Lynn, I am currently on a mission to suck stink bugs up in the vacuum cleaner. Have gotten about 30 just out of my office!
Shar----does the vacuum cleaner SMELL bad now?????
BTW----are yourTrain tickets in a safe place?? LOL!
Blue jay out in my tree - no feed out -
Maybe he'll come down and start eating
these stink bugs.........
Sharon, you better empty that vacuum cleaner bag before they all crawl out at you! lol
Nothing eats stink bugs (except apparently Sharon's vacuum), that's the problem!!! I bet there's about 350 of them on the west side of my house right now...every window screen is just covered. Howdy all:)
hello Megan
Hello:) Still in OC?
I'm going to get a gallon jug and put something in in with water to kill them. Trouble is I've seen them swimming before...
If anyone finds a solution - print it here in BOLD.
yes, but not for long:(
how about some bleach:)
they will be white and smell fresh:)
Darn... then it must be true...summer is over:(
When I am in the garden, I drop them into a bucket with a little bleach and water in the bottom. I do this about twice a day in my sunflower patch...last sunflower crop of the year and the d*#* bugs are trying to destroy them. That's an idea -
I need to get ready to roll at 4:00
Taking Alexis to a gymnastic session
down at school.. You get to visit at the 1st of 8 sessions.

yep, afraid summer is officially over.....I like you style, Megan...revenge is soooo sweet

maybe Lolly can wear one around her neck, like a necklace
NOT A PROBLEM
I'd like a picture of that, Megan
Nope, they only work on larvae, not adult mosquito.
I am going to throw out the bag this evening, it is full anyway - of stink bugs and dog hair! :) Air conditioners are going to have to go because that is where they are coming in!

OUR BWO eagle is there for us!
Hi, Megan...I just counted 8 on one corner of the house....hope that is ALL there is!!!
It's a SE corner---but it's hot out there everywhere, so don't know what the attraction is there!
lol I just counted 8 inside my house! All in one room! They are going to DIE.......
I flush 'em.
Paula, will have to watch it during the night sometime---too long for my daytime limits! But love hearing Buddy!
BBL
Eagle still at BWO
Buddy was very vocal! Really cool to hear him.
Eagle at BWO!
Oh, drat, just found a stinker in the sunroom....flushed him!!
Now two at BWO
Had a very light sprinkle here. No benefit, for sure.
Very interesting video on Buddy. It took him a lot longer to go under than little ToTo, but pretty much the same procedure. Toto didn't have to have the tube in the throat.
Trying again. Blog cop won't let me post. Redid my account info.
Finally!
Are we going to start a new line of jewelry? Eagle-style balance beam necklaces?
Lynn, don't have enough information. Was there any prior relationship among any of the people involved? Who would gain from the deaths?
Was the surgery for Buddy successful? Does it have to be done again?
Off to look for frig. inspiration.
Judie
good ole Buddy...what a guy:)

iT'S hot, 94°, here today with 25% humidity.
[:~D]
Jim
Jim, get it as in understand it??? Or get the same conditions?? LOL!! Try to stay cool!
Judie, I'll email you a link to the story.
Enjoyed the video on Buddy...actually, there is at least one other video, which deals more with the open house, or whatever the occasion was.
Thanks, Deb, for the heads-up.
[:~D]
Jim
Wow! Great video on Buddy. He is very special. Remember....Jack and I visited the Norfolk Botanical Garden to see the nest when he was just an egg. lol
Margy, you made my day! Received your card today. Guess it is official. Norma and I have adopted each other! Wahoo! Thank you, Margy! Love you!
Worked in the yard today. It was great! No sweat!
Well I tried - I even took my camera but the coach said that I was too off-balanced to get on a balance beam! :(
Another thing - as I looked out over the yard before entering the house guess what I saw.....
Lots and lots of lightning bugs!
Oh no!!!! Stink bugs with flashlights!!! What is this world coming too?
You saw kughtung bugs?????? I have always wanted to see even one,
"Lighting bugs". I was so excited I couldnt even type
Bill has given me my own computer so I dont mess with his, His is for business,
LOL !!! Kughtung Bugs..Now that is a good one, Anne-Marie, a real knee-slapper!
Geez, I have been trying to post for over an hour!
Lolly -
glad you liked it ☺
Knew when I saw that card I had to get it! A "find" at my favorite Goodwill store, where the the prices are always right !
Graet report from Norma from earlier..those Meals with Love are the ticket when the Chief Cook and Bottle Washer is out of commission !
So, Anne-Marie - You have 4-jet lag..you are entitled to make all the typoes you want!
JO - sounds fun....
Well, we have daytime all night tonight at the nest...
Good to see what we have so far...
Feed Toss time coming up at Pix Pa...the night-time view is not so hot anymore, kind of gnarly
Just out of curiosity, has anyone else had trouble getting on the Blog? I kept getting message "There are errors on this page." thought I had been blocked there for awhile, had to shut down the computer and that did the trick I guess.
Ok, Maggie deserved that one,I need to calm down.

Margie, I had to redo my email and password. Blog cop refused to post anything for about 4 hours. Got the same message as you. Don't know what the problem was. Try a redo of your email and password. I just submitted the same ones I had originally submitted and worked like a charm.
Once again, a long string of days with No Dana...hope you and Ed are doing okay WV Gal...
Paula - thanks for the Video link, going to have to wait to watch it with sound, though...
I'm going to be the first one to go to bed tonight...
Hope everyone is doing okay...
Good Night, and God Bless Us, Every One

Ok thanks, Judie... I will try that next time if I have to, I got lucky this time....always afraid I will end up in never never land when I redo ANYTHING on the computer...
PS you don't need to leave the night light on for me...I won't need it tonight
xo
No chance to see if any stray lightening bugs were here with this warm weather----4 heavy downpours in last hour---each lasted about 15-20 SECONDS!!!
The PA cam has really changed, but I like that they can get a close up. Do not like the constant "Chatter".
I liked PA PIX when it was a simple little refresh cam....nice to see movement and have sound, but I hate chat rooms, and don't like the distraction it makes
I am going to be watching Criminal Minds at 9:00.......
me too:)
Yep, same here, the chat screen annoys me. I usually open that site in a separate window and shrink it so I can only see the cam.
Great tribute to Patrick Swayze on Dancing With the Stars....THE dance scene from Dirty Dancing!!! Very well-done!
Night, Margy. Peace for you tonight.
I agree Mits. It is very distracting and they make such idiotic statements.
Also, I liked to see the big picture.
yeah close ups are nice, but I like to watch them coming and going into the woods.
Lolly - that chat room (which I wish I could delete it and just watch the cam)
is where the Eastern Texan mentioned about watching the fishing boats coming in at Port Aransas...
BBL
HEY- If you click on the X at the top right of chat screen, it closes and the cam becomes bigger!
Time for Criminal Minds. BBL.
Wise eliminations on Dancing.
Yes, I enjoyed the tribute to Patrick S.
Evening, all!
Got a thunder bumper here...TG it waited until I was done mowing....TV is out for now!
Wow hope the TV comes back for top Chef...missed last week, was watching the rerun. Missed DWTS too, was mowing and sweeping...yes in the dark! Who got voted off?

Judie- they have to keep trimming/dremeling Buddy's beak because it's crooked from the avian pox. Not sure when they will have to stop doing that.

Jo, told you that guy was coming back, remember???
Yes I do, Lynn! I had almost forgotten about him - the Reaper !
So far this week I liked NCIS the best.
Paula and Judy: Buddy will have to be dremmeled about every month or so for the rest of his life.
Macy Gray and Ashley Hamilton got voted of DWTS, Paula.
Megan - Thanks! I feel like Duhhhhhhhh
That red X was so big and bold on the chat side of the Pix Cam - don't know how I missed it!
I guess that the valley is not going to get any rain - at least not yet
I'll be back before calling it a night

Good Evening, Everyone!

Paula, thanks for the video of Buddy!
Amazing what they're doing with him.
Bless his heart. Judie, it's not real scary--it's kinda like getting your fingernails trimmed and shaped.

G'night! :o]
Well, at least I am up with the raccoons....
didn't stumble and fall during the night...
See you nice friends much much later.

Good morning Anne-Marie. Welcome to the East Coast!
Well, I wonder where everybody is?
Good morning!
I'm here Sharon. At my desk getting ready to go talk about serial killers.
A few rain sprinkles but not what we need. Supposed to get rain tomorrow.
Later,
Judie
Hmmm, serial killers, sounds interesting!
Morning, all!
Last hot day of the week!
I see we are still camless! :(
Morning, Anne. Hope you are enjoying the cooler weather!

BWO update....
Nest Update
09/24/09:
Technical Note:
We see the image is not updating. We're working on the problem now.
On October 3, the Refuge will hold its 14th Annual Open House. Bring your family for a day of free fun!
Hello all:) Nice morning, but 91° humidity...
Still have at least 3 or 4 hummers, but the garden has gotten very quiet... I hate when they leave:(
On the other hand, I have plenty of stink bugs, and I am now offering them for sale for your Halloween parties or haunted houses. $5.00 per hundred, I will pay shipping and handling costs.
good deal, Megan...we don't have stink bugs at the ocean:), but I bet they are up at home:(
They are really getting on my nerves...just killed about 40 of them on my sunflowers.
A quick hello.
Sorry about the stinkbug invasion. I have not seen any. Hope it stays that way.
Trying to get things set up for tomorrow. Will have to request sub so I can go to my recertification class.
Take care. . . prayers for all who need them.
Good idea, Megan. Need a partner in your stinkbug venture. I have plenty. I even found about 10 inside my medical dictionary when I picked it up! Made my day!
STINK BUG REMEDIES
Well, thanks. Cause I have heard of kaolin spray before, and I will be looking into it for next year to protect my late sunflower crops. I didn't realize it might work for stink bugs.
Sharon, I will be glad to partner with you to up the inventory - live bugs only please, we do have quality control. And...this is really gross- but if you cut a stink bug in half, the head part walks away...ewww...it is creepy- these of course will cost extra.
Megan - ROFLMAO OVER AND OVER! I can help with all the live bugs we can sell!
LOL:):):):), Megan
3. Use vacuum and throw out, tightly closed.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US!
Good luck, Wanda:) And yes, I loved Erma Bombeck, of course I was a mere child when she was popular:) She had some great quotes, like" Housework, if you do it right, will kill you."
Wanda, if that does not work....tell Gene to load up the shot gun:)
nice to have our own Megan Bombeck:)
If life is a bowl of cherries, what am I doing in the pits! Love Erma!
Deigo alone
Little chipmunks running all over at PIX PA- they are so cute.
good looking dolphins on dolphin cam....saw some real ones swimming by condo this a.m.
Boy, I am in a de-clutter mood! lol
Oh wow, oh wow - I can't believe I have forgotten to tell you all this . . . I AM GOING TO SEE TRAIN NOVEMBER 15! YEAH!
And now on to my next question . . . how do you remove stink bug stink from a vacuum?
very carefully:)
Lolly I will send you a round trip ticket to my house for de-cluttering, will throw in a trip to the zoo:)
Good late morning all.
Acorns kept me awake last night! Roof hits sounded like gunshots....argh! Good little breeze so they are still hitting. Leaves coming down and it really looks like later fall....but temp is still NICE!
LOL Sharon, are really going to see TRAIN? That is really a surprise. NOT!
Boy, when you feel like a walk in the woods you can go to the PA site. The sound is so great! The daytime picture is so clear.
Watch it Mits! I just might accept!
Mits, when you get that round trip ticket, make it for the weekend of Open House. lol
If anybody is watching So You Think You Can Dance....the first guy who performed this week, Teddy Tedholm, is a nepohew or cousin of a former co-worker....very unique young man.
Congrats on another A++++ Andrea!
Wanda, sounds like an awful lot of work for Gene!!! Hope it works and isn't too expensive. Some of those kinds of treatments can be up to a $100/gallon!!
Anne Marie....welcome to Daylight Savings Time again!!! Hope you slept well.
Train...heard something about it...forget.....
These little buggers started out in PA, imported from Asia. They are mostly in MD, NJ, Delaware, but they are having a problem in Oregon, and have been reported in California..so beware..
We get an occasional stink bug, but that is all.
Was watching the PA cam. Saw where someone posted about cam site www.watchthedeer.com Went to it and saw some deer.
Time to go eat, and then exercise. Have already lost the few pounds I gained on the last trip. Wahoo!
Have a great day everyone!
Sharon, spray a piece of tissue with your most potent perfume and suck it into the vacuum.....works for that doggy smell that vacuum gets.
Hi gang, made hommous this morning with Bill. Its fun to cook with him. Oh and please get rid of the bugs before I get there. Its gray, muggy and cloudy here.
Yep, and a fabric softener in the vacuumm works too.
Hello Anne-Marie:)
almost time for feeder to go off on PIX
Thanks for the ideas. I think the fabric softener sheet will win. Not real fond of perfume!
One of my passwords for work is
P@ssw0rd01!! - now really, do they have to be so technical?
and the little buggers will be soft as a baby's butt:)
gee that is not too obvious, is it
Why, that looks like a Train ticket...
Hope you can reset that one, Shar!
NEW THREAD IS UP!!!!
Lunch time...hungry Hedgie!
