Hidey gives a whole new meaning to the words "Just dropped in"! I was hysterical watching his landing and takeoff a little while ago! He just DROPS into the nest... likely from a branch right above it. So darn cute!

Watching the flamingos nesting at the DC zoo. They incubate for 30 days - I remember last year watching the little ones in their nests. They it was great seeing all the little chicks group together!

Absolutely no sign of any nesting activity at the Black Stork nest....same debris in nest that has been there for weeks---blue cloth or paper...shucks....I really enjoyed them last year...and watched the banding there.

There was 4 at CT, littlest one didn't make it.

I think in fact there were 2 contests. One with the Official Judges of CBF and that is what I think the results are now. THEN the Viewers CHoice awards are what we are voting for!
Maybe Bob will win 2 awards from the way I am reading it.
So Keep on voting until Bob says he has won both with the Official Judges and with Us!

It says Bob won on the home page of the CBF photo contest, use the link Jo posted. Rules also state, The Viewers’ Choice photo will be posted online by June 16, I guess Bob had way more votes than anyone else, so maybe that's why they announced him the viewers choice winner now.

When I clicked on the link in my favorites it took me to the winning announcement, and couldn't get to a voting page anywhere on the site....but then when I used Dana's link, there it was and I could vote again!

It did say that Viewer's choice winner would be announced BY the 16th.....but nothing says that voting has closed....but aren't WE the viewers??? Maybe judges pick will be based on our votes, too! LOL! They might think that we are very smart and decide they must agree with us!!!

Sure glad I decided to check on the nest right now, though-- good to see our gorgeous eagles! Suspect Hidey isn't too far away, either. That looks like it might be Lib in the nest. Boy, is he handsome!

I would like to ask a question. How much longer will Hidey be with us in the nest, on and off. This is my first time watching a site such as this, and I have been watching him for a few weeks now. I feel like he is my own child!
And after he leaves for good, when should I start checking back for new eggs?

Lauren, Hidey will stick around for a few more weeks. We will still have the pleasure of his company fot a while.
Nestorations to the nest start in December and then a month or two of HANKY PANKY. First egg will appear in late January or early February.
It is such an AWESOME process to witness:) Be prepared to be stuck at your computer for about 3 or 4 months;)
Or maybe 6 or 7 months. LOL
Belle laid her first egg this past season on January 31. First hatch was March 14 (Hidey) Only one to hatch.

Nest Update 06/02/09:
No definite signs of hatching yet. We have had eggs hatch on the 40th day, which would be tomorrow, so we're not giving up on the first egg just yet.
All is quiet on the nest front now.
Hopefully it will get some action soon!
