when I was doing the cams last night, you have a stop watch that goes off every 5 mins, and you write down what she is doing, if there is a cub, then the stop watch goes to a minute, and you write down all observations.
I have written quite a lot in the early morning when the Scottish sites are up, regarding the little Hobblets at the Hobby Falcon site. Chrissy reports that one, the littlest one, failed to survive...It's a tough fact of nature but let's hope the other two continue to thrive. By watching so many things, we surely see the happy and the sad as time goes by. Thank Goodness OUR Eagles have had a successful season this year, after the heartbreak of last year.
We had some Good Eagle Action morning and evening today. And maybe, more before the night is over.
Going to treat myself to NatureNuts pictures now..Love the new Poop Shoot Facials, COSTUME LADY..
Good Pleasant Evening to all, It's a beauty here in West Virginia...XO
Good evening friends! Long day...on the run all day and then groceries to put away, and then...yawn-n-n...naptime! Catching up. Sissy, your eagle eyes were really good to notice the gel on Mei's belly!! And then Mits' narrative told all about it! All the talk of donuts and cobblers had my mouth watering! Good to see so many folks on today...Red, Bob, Butterfly Mama and of course everybody else! Chrissy hasn't been reading the blogs...she was worried about Lolly, but I reassured her on that. Deb, great pics, as always. Jim, loved that movie!! Peywacket was a gem. MArgy, how was work today? Not being home, I missed out on any action! Wanda...great new facials!!
OK, Just heard from Glo. She was at her neighbor's using their cable hookup. They now have power, but no phone and she has DSL over the phone lines...so still out of communication for a while. Both she and Dex are fine and looking forward to a good sleep with air-conditioning tonight! There are still lots without power though. Will report again when she can contact one of us again!
Glad to hear a word from Glo. I figured it was power outage trouble. Gonna call my daughter tonight--she's near Austin & maybe they're getting some rain! She has business trip up here in mid-Aug. & on free days wants to see the Asia Trail!!We always go on field trips when she's here. They have Smithsonian Channel on their TV, so she prob. knows more than most of us except for our great updates from Helen & others & the cams!
Sissy and Sharon...in case you leave for your trips early, I'll say now "have a great time, stay safe and both come back w/ pics to share!" Zoo, of course, is one of my favs, and I've always wanted to get to Gatlinburg and Dollywood! Envying both of you!!
Jim it is 4:20 a.m. there, it used to stay lighter much longer during the night, but the days are getting shorter, believe that one also has an infrared light for night
Evening everyone. Sissy I have been to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Dolly wood. Loved them. Have a good time. Sharon hope you have a good time at NZ. Just seeing the pandas is worth it. Tell Tai I said hello. I am going to get ready to watch Hopkins. All have a good night.
thanks, Jim, for the Buddy update. It sounds like he is doing better now and is enjoying the extra room. I bet he really likes seeing other eagles after being in isolation for so long.
Thanks, Jim, for update. I had looked yesterday and was disappointed that there was no news..but assumed that no news was good news. I feel a bit leery about Buddy's progress or lack thereof...sounds like this stress disorder could certainly be serious, but at the same time, it sounds as if they are still handling him too much, so just moving him outdoors may not make a lot of difference....hope I'm wrong.
Thanks, Jim...you are great at keeping us updated. Sounds like Buddy has a lot of psychological problems. Poor dear, hope he gets well soon. He has been through so much in his young life.
Goon evening! Went through the blog quickly to catch up.
Love the facials! Good job, Wanda.
Loved the Siamese pictures. Though I do not have one at this time I am VERY PARTIAL to Siamese.
Thanks for the Buddy update. Poor Buddy! Life has not been easy!!
Now I am all up in arms!!!! I am mad!! An armadillo is making himself known in my yard. He did major damage to the lawn last night. Grrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!! We get them every summer and they like my yard particularly, I guess because we water and we have the ponds and stream. They make major damage and I am on the war path!!!
Have two nephews still without power, thanks to Dolly. Thankfully no major damage to homes.
I have not been on much lately, just keeping really busy.
Lynn and Wanda thinking the same thing. Buddy sure has had a lot of problems and been through so much in his short life. Loretta I know the feeling keep saying where are the lazy, hazy days of summer. Good night again. If I don't get off I will miss Hopkins.
Been watching Hopkins....Thx for seeing Buddy update and sharing, Jim. That poor baby..hope they really have a handle on his problem. I'm gonna light another candle. Lolly, I know your armadillo story from my daughter. When their spotlight would go on at night, SIL would go out w/(his gun).He just returned my call--they are getting much needed rain.Daughter was on way home from bus. trip in Toronto.Take off was going to be hour late, then another hour because THAT plane had been hit by lightening on flight in & they were going to check it!!!Did you hear me holler, "DON'T GET ON"?? Sound familiar Helen? Anyway they did decide to use another plane, but it will go to Houston, not Austin, so she will get home @ midnight!!! I'm not sleepy now. Back to Hopkins.....
My first time watching Hopkins...very interesting. The 8 year old boy looked unbelievable after his surgery...good looking kid! The baby that was delivered was adorable. Most newborns look a little like aliens (from outer space...not Mexico).
Thanks, Paula. Glad you liked the FACIALS. Norma does not understand hers. Does anyone know what I am trying to depict? A while back, Norma said something about she thought something was hatched from an egg, but it was a "live bearer". We laughed so much about that, but I cannot for the life of me remember what the animal was.
Now I remember what you are saying Wanda. Norma made a 'slip' in stating about something hatching from an egg..... oh shoot!!! I was even the one to joke her about it! Senior moments are horrible........ Almost had to be the panda - I'll sleep on it and hopefully remember by morning! Everything we watch comes from eggs - except the panda. DEB may remember!
Jim, whatever it was that Norma was confused about is driving me crazy. We laughed so much and made such a big deal out of it, yet no one can remember what it was. I'll ask Jo in the morning or maybe Dana. They both have pretty good memories. Check out the photo, Jim, on my PoopShoot Facial Blog.
My "puter" did some of the wildest things today. I couldn't type, then all kind of photos started popping up, then all kind or error and warning reports. I hope it was VERIZON's lines and not my computer. There are two things in this house that I couldn't do without, and that is my 'puter and Gene. (in that order. LOL)
Paula, about the armadillo. We tried traps, they do not work! One night we got a skunk! What do you do with a skunk in a cage in your yard?!!!!! Well, a neighbor shot it and Jack managed to slide it out of the cage into it's resting spot. Not good...but what do you do? Actually, we laugh about it now and do NOT set traps.
And, just like Nature Nut said about her SIL going out with a gun, well it looks like Jack is going to have to do that. Again, not good, he is NOT a hunter, but you can not imagine the damage they can do to lawns and flower beds.
Lolly, when us boys in the neighborhood decided we would trap skunks, get them destunk, and sell them as pets, we used a couple of the wire cage type traps.
We had pretty good success at trapping some, but then the adults refused to finance the rest of the operation, so we had to figure out how to release them.
It turned out to be easier than we imagined. We just carefully and slowly approached the trap, trying to keep the head end of the animal pointing at us, and carefully slid the door open.....
They departed of their own volition in no time, and we were able to dodge the stink pretty well.
Armadillo is supposed to be excellent eating, and you can probably use the hide for many interesting things.
I used to hunt all the time when I was a teen, but all these housing developments and industrial parks used to be open brush land and sandstone hills and pine trees when I was a teen.
Not easy at all to hunt anywhere around here now...probably out toward the deserts would be easiest.
Bad news. I went back to see if Steffi had posted news of K-71 as promised...
She had; read her words below.
Jim
I’m so sorry everybody; I’ve been dreading to write this all day. I was hoping to find a dropped radio but instead I found K71, deceased. I have to say it was very hard on me and as unusual as it may seem, I know this is what happens in nature. I felt such grief immediately after I saw her body in the bushes…I did not want it to be her, I don’t want it to be any of them but I held K71 this year during banding too and I was the one to find it (again!). I’ll post pictures and details of the finding on the next update. I just figured everybody would appreciate to know earlier even if they are terrible news. Steffani

yeah, Jim what is that falcon site??? I only know of the one falcon site in Brisbane

Hi, Bob,
Beautiful cat, but I don't recognize the breed exactly. Similar to Siamese, but... not.
"Pyewacket" was the name of the witch's cat in "Bell, Book and Candle," starring Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak.
I guess everybody's probably seen that one. I saw it when it came out, and I can't count how many times I've seen it on TV since. Good flick.
Sorry to hear about your infection, but once the antibiotics start work, you're usually going to be healed in short order.
Looking forward to your "future-pics."

Hi, Mits, this is a second site in AU, which I got from google. It's not in Brisbane ... maybe Victoria.
I remember reading the location somewhere.

The second Aussie site seems to be in or near
Geelong, Victoria, AU.
And that's in the SE part of the country, north of Melborne, I think.
Jim
Loretta, great pics, too!
I see my "skull" has been moved...at around 3 o'clock position now. TOo bad no nest visitors this pm.
OK, Just heard from Glo. She was at her neighbor's using their cable hookup. They now have power, but no phone and she has DSL over the phone lines...so still out of communication for a while. Thank you Lord!!! What a great God we have!!!
Oops, forgot to say Glo thanks you all for your thoughts and prayers!
She will be on the Blog when she can to thank you herself!
Good news, Iris. Thanks! Whole lot easier to be without phone than electric.
Good Night Everyone.
Early to Bed, Early to Rise.
Take Care, and Prayers.

Checking back & I am so glad I did.
Thank you Iris for the update on Glo
Hopefully it will all be uphill from here out........ Thanks again.
Look how light it is on Finny's nest; it must be 2 or 3 in the A.M.
The oldest one was just up and exercising the wings and looking around. I think it's a female, and it looks a lot like her mother.
Jim

FINALLY!

Looks as though Mei just toppled over & closed her eyes!
Thanks Jim for Buddy update.
Thanks Jim for the link. Sure have been waiting for that update.

Going to watch TV show
Both pandas are zonked out right now, Jo.
thanks, Jim, for the Buddy update. It sounds like he is doing better now and is enjoying the extra room. I bet he really likes seeing other eagles after being in isolation for so long.

Sissy - are you going to see the eagles at Dollywood?
Nice Pics, Bob..yes beautiful blue eyes!
And the update on Buddy - I hope the outdoor cage helps.
Been watching Hopkins....Thx for seeing Buddy update and sharing, Jim. That poor baby..hope they really have a handle on his problem. I'm gonna light another candle.

I hear ya, Loretta:)
My first time watching Hopkins...very interesting. The 8 year old boy looked unbelievable after his surgery...good looking kid! The baby that was delivered was adorable. Most newborns look a little like aliens (from outer space...not Mexico).
Jo, forgot to ask how your visit from your Hedgesville grands went yesterday...bet you had alot of fun. Did they wear you out??
Thanks, Paula. Glad you liked the FACIALS. Norma does not understand hers. Does anyone know what I am trying to depict? A while back, Norma said something about she thought something was hatched from an egg, but it was a "live bearer". We laughed so much about that, but I cannot for the life of me remember what the animal was.
Hedgie - everything went very well Had a great time with them & yepper they wear you out! Rained heavily whole time they were here so all inside play!
I don't recall that Wanda. Must have missed that comment somewhere!
Good Hopkins show. So sad about the young girl.
Hitting the hay, see ya tomorrow!
Off to bed I go.........
Peace to you & yours
Good Night Everyone of you!
Rest well Glo & Dex!
Prayers for all our needs!
((hugs))
GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE
Wanda, I do remember Norma said that something had hatched, not been born. I can't remember what it was either, but does not come out of an egg.
Goodnight, eagle buds! Pleasant dreams and prayers answered.
Talking about everything we watch being "hatched from eggs," somebody got a video clip of a Mule Deer feeding on the Seal Rock nest today.
Hatched from eggs?? Yuk, yuk.
I think it was feeding on acorns from the scrub oak that overhangs the nest.
C(°ﮡ°)D
Jim
Norma wasn't talking about squirrels, was she??

Still no update from Steffi on whether K-71 dropped her radio or has died.
I'm inclined to think it's bad news for that reason.

I'll ask Jo in the morning or maybe Dana. They both have pretty good memories. Check out the photo, Jim, on my PoopShoot Facial Blog.
No, Jim, it wasn't a squirrel.
Whatever it was, I think it was something that made the news. There was a polar bear not too long ago that Norma was talking about.
Night everyone!
My "puter" did some of the wildest things today. I couldn't type, then all kind of photos started popping up, then all kind or error and warning reports. P.S. Was it bunnies, as in Easter Bunny??
That doesn't ring a bell, Deb.

A very good night to you, Jim.
No, not bunnies.
Bats??

So, can you legally hunt Armadillos in Texas??
Anytime??
What do you use, a .22 or a deer rifle?
Armadillo is supposed to be excellent eating, and you can probably use the hide for many interesting things.

RED SHIRT DAY
Sorry to read the news about K71 from Steffi.
I cannot get either of the cams
(live feed or the still cam) to load.
It could be my computer but everything else is coming up
Anyone else having any problems?
Mema Jo, it looks like my still cam froze up at about 7:15. Live feed is up though but maybe that is because I have had it up a while.
Thanks - I'll keep trying off & on
Guess you're getting excited!!!
Safe journey.
I have live-feed up, but view looks still, i.e. no leaves moving...can't get in to 30 second cam at all
Guess we won't be watching our nest for awhile.
Check out on Wild Watch Live Cams the osprey nest. Yesterday & today
I have not seen adults & I can't
pick out the chicks in there....
I looked there yesterday, and thought the same thing, Jo....haven't been watching hardly any other cams but zoo
Full nest of all 4 large osprey chicks in CT.........
Mom & 3 large chicks in the Finny2008 nest........
Jo, you are up and at em early...
I see both cams on the outside area this morning.
Tell me the noises I am hearing on the DC cam - sirens or animals??
Morning everyone. Sorry to hear about K-71. Cannot get into blog thru beakspeak. Have not tried live feed yet. Off to get breakfast.

Yes, he absolutely is!

Did Aaron, enjoy the sunrise, Jo?
Otters taking a swim (may be the sisters)
No fishing cat or leopards
No Sloth Bears around...
2 Flamingo chicks in front of all the others standing still... They are growning..

He probably got some more good pics of the sunrise........
I know he feels badly about it...mainly because the last set of house keys he lost - I found under the pc's keyboard! He has this thing about keys! lol love that kid
Really a beautiful morning out there.
I do have a few errands to run so I
