Good afternoon everyone. Did you miss me? I've been mowing again and have about another hour to go. Has anyone heard from Glo. Wonder if she has power yet?
Yes, Paula. I am so excited. Been to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge a few times but never to Dollywood. Mattie is excited too. There are about 18 or 19 of us going, staying in one of them big ole cabins with decks, saunas, hot tubs, all that jaz. Should be a hoot.
We haven't had any update on Buddy for a week. Hope he is getting stronger - the last we heard there was a yeast infection! Pray that has cleared by now.
Hello Ceil! Glad you didn't keep those hounds around!
Sissy you are some baker- donuts to cobblers! Hope Tom's mom is doing well.
She is Jo. She is almost mentally back to her normal self. She gets around alot better, still has to have full time supervision but she is back to getting in and out of bed by herself and up and down out of a chair by herself. She is one tough little woman. Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.
Mei Xiang did not show any pregnancy behaviors from yesterday afternoon until this morning, when she dragged bamboo into the den at 4:45 a.m. and spent a minute nest building. Then she manipulated (licked, chewed, and held) the Kong toy for about four minutes. Mei spent most of today in her den. Another pregnancy-related behavior she exhibited today was some brief ano-genital licking. This behavior, when it lasts 15 minutes or longer, is associated with impending birth.
The next bout of behavior began at 8:25, when Mei spent 28 minutes engaged in nest building—carrying bamboo, moving the hay, and pawing at the floor. Of course, she also ate some of the bamboo, which contributes to the longer time frame. About two hours later, she had eight minutes of paw licking.
In the early afternoon, Mei did one and a half minutes of ano-genital licking then ate bamboo. She was quite restless for the next half hour. During this time, she nipple licked, on and off, for a total of seven minutes, and also spent time breaking and staring at a piece of bamboo. She paw licked for a minute and ended this restless period with a brief ano-genital lick before falling asleep.
Mei Xiang left her den at 3:20 and shifted onto the keeper area patio to eat produce and biscuits verrry slowly. She urinated at 4 p.m. Later on, she was resting on the rocks in exhibit three, which has been her pattern over the past few days. These behaviors correlate nicely with the downward trajectory of her progestin levels. We should hopefully know something soon.
A urine sample from yesterday afternoon contained a progestin value of about 74 ng/mg Cr. This concentrations is higher than the value obtained on July 22, which had a progestin value of about 58 ng/mg Cr.
The continued low values indicate the luteal phase and secondary rise are nearing an end, however an end may not be reached for several more days.
He's doing fine and seems to have no injuries. He's a bit on the slim side and they will fatten him up before his release. His flight feathers are not yet fully in and that's why he can't fly very high for very long. Therefore he was not a difficult capture and Bev was able to grab him. He has small feet which is typical of a male eagle and he is smaller in overall size than the female, Delta Dawn, which remains in the nest. The folks at O.W.L. have been watching the eaglets on our cam before Danny fell from the nest. They already knew that one was male and the other female.
Sorry I haven't been by in awhile. Time just seems to roll by so quickly. Hope everyone is doing well. I actually haven't taken any photos in weeks. Not really since the banding trip.
With the majority of the BW wildlife drive closed I haven't made the trip out there. Went to Pickering once and didn't take a single photo.
Well Bob - we really miss your not being here as much as we miss your photos! With the extra hot heat and the wet rain - I can understand your taking it a little easy! How about some more cat pictures?
It is good to hear from you! With or without photos!
Hi Bob ( : nice seeing you on the blog. I'm not certain with all the rain that going out and picture taken would have been 1st on my list either. Hope things are well with you and your family. REMEMBER OCT IS OPEN HOUSE NCTC...DINNER ANYONE? IF SO BOB YOU GET THE RIGHT DIRECTIONS. FOLLOW SOMEONE !!
Yes, Bob, it is good to hear from you. Are you in a slump? Just chat with us for a while and we will get you outta there! On a more serious note, be careful of the ticks and mosquitoes. Put a good spray on before you go into the countryside and woods. There has been a lot of cases of Lymes Disease this Summer.
I hear you on the ticks and mosquitoes Wanda. It may be too late, I've got some kind of skin infection and am on antibiotics. Not a big deal. Seems to be getting better.
Things you don't want to hear in the doctor's office:
I don't know what that is.
and,
Let me get my partner, she's going to want to look at this.
I read where Glo just missed a big ice cream social. Some ice cream company was going to give away 50,000 gallons of ice cream but at the last minute they got power restored. That probably would help cook people off.
1 P.M. UPDATE Some 26,384 Quad-City area MidAmerican Energy customers remain without power at 1 p.m. including 8,901 in Moline, 10,169 in Rock Island and 2,314 in Rock Island County, according to MidAmerican’s Web site.
THE FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES FOR THE ROCK RIVER NEAR JOSLIN. * UNTIL FRIDAY MORNING. * AT 8:30 AM THURSDAY THE STAGE WAS 12.5 FEET...AND FALLING. * MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURRING. * FLOOD STAGE IS 12 FEET. * FORECAST...FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE FRIDAY MORNING. $$
Mei Xiang slept in exhibit three overnight again, as has been her recent routine. She had a brief bout of paw licking at around midnight and a second bout, lasting five minutes, at 1 a.m. There was a 15-minute nest-building session an hour later. She slept until 5 a.m. to resume paw licking for a few minutes, and then engaged in two more brief paw-licking sessions soon after.
She spent a couple of minutes nest building at 8 a.m., and had a 20-second bout of nipple licking during this activity. An hour later, she moved out to the exhibit again. At 9:30 she got up and urinated (a fresh sample!) and cooperated with us for an ultrasound exam. She was moderately alert. She consumed half of her biscuits and most of her pear. Mei also engaged in a play and scent-anointing session! She did not overlook the generous proportion of gel leftover on her belly, along with the remaining pear. What a sticky mess she created rolling the pear between her belly and chin while managing to rub her ears, all at the same time.
This afternoon Mei repeated the paw-licking behavior for a total of eight minutes over five sessions. No ano-genital licking was seen today. Mei is keeping us guessing and adding a whole new meaning, with all her individual nuances, to pregnancy behaviors. She is “consistently inconsistent,” as one of her keepers so perfectly stated.
only when the cam is on it, Jo, it is too hard to see it when you are there, and if she does give birth, the house will be closed, and I'm sure they will rope us off from the area, even if we have to go into the cam room
Yes Jo I don't think flooding was any problem for Glo. She said she is up on a hill. Glad the temp. wasn't too extreme..but don't know about humidity there.
Just came back to check before din din---I missed Tiny in the nest---Boo. Bob, good to hear from you---your Siamese pictures are great!Hope your ailment clears up---we don't want you on Discovery Health's "Mystery Diseases"!! LOL I'm so glad Sissy got her wish---Wanda & I must have ESP. I was collecting panda pics & then was going to look for daschund pic to turn into a panda & send to her!! ;>)))
Just hope Glo did not have a full freezer before this happened. Most of the food would have to be pitched for sure! I don't think flooding is a problem at this time. It was mostly wind -100 mph that did the damage, although they had rain too. I believe she told us in the past that it gets quite humid there too. It will really be good to hear from her.
Iris, at this stage of the game, with the anticipation of her going into estrus, AI, hormone levels, pregnancy, behaviors, all of this stuff going on since January, I'm sure the keepers and doctors and scientist, would love to know something, even if it is a false pregnancy, which they are hoping it is not.

She is Jo. She is almost mentally back to her normal self. She gets around alot better, still has to have full time supervision but she is back to getting in and out of bed by herself and up and down out of a chair by herself. She is one tough little woman. Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.
Good Afternoon Paula, Red, Ceil, Loretta and Megan ( :
Loretta those pics are quite a collection. You do have a knack for taking pictures.
Jo you'll never guess what happened when you left for a panda nap????? One guess???
Thanks for posting the clip of
today's Juvie's Visit, Deb.
Dana - usually when I leave a visitor will come to the nest. Was that it OR
was it that Ceil Popped in to say Hi?
You're welcome, Jo, I have another to load, but am having problems getting it to work. I will try later tonight.
No Jo......I layed my head down and went out too lol zzzzzzzz's right along with you
July 23
July 24
A urine sample from yesterday afternoon contained a progestin value of about 74 ng/mg Cr. This concentrations is higher than the value obtained on July 22, which had a progestin value of about 58 ng/mg Cr.
The continued low values indicate the luteal phase and secondary rise are nearing an end, however an end may not be reached for several more days.
and that is the lastest as I know it about Mei.....looks like today she has done nothing of interest for any period of time, except sleep
Sleep.....that is what Jo and I did......
I'm watching the one Delta eaglet on the tree limbs. Where the nest use to be. Nice and breezy, oopppsss backup and "poop shoot".
Norma if your on look at all the donkeys.....lots "your pace of donkeys are there!!!!!!"
Update from O.W.L. re: Delta Dan:
He's doing fine and seems to have no injuries. He's a bit on the slim side and they will fatten him up before his release. His flight feathers are not yet fully in and that's why he can't fly very high for very long. Therefore he was not a difficult capture and Bev was able to grab him. He has small feet which is typical of a male eagle and he is smaller in overall size than the female, Delta Dawn, which remains in the nest. The folks at O.W.L. have been watching the eaglets on our cam before Danny fell from the nest. They already knew that one was male and the other female.
Thanks Paula for the update on Delta Dan...Delta Dawn is resting in the partical nest.
lol Dana We're good at that aren't we. Don't even need a good excuse to Panda Nap!
Where's Bob?
Sorry I haven't been by in awhile. Time just seems to roll by so quickly. Hope everyone is doing well. I actually haven't taken any photos in weeks. Not really since the banding trip.
With the majority of the BW wildlife drive closed I haven't made the trip out there. Went to Pickering once and didn't take a single photo.
I'll try to do better this weekend.
Well Bob - we really miss your not being here as much as we miss your photos! With the extra hot heat and the wet rain - I can understand your
taking it a little easy! How about some more cat pictures?
It is good to hear from you!
With or without photos!
Hi Bob ( : nice seeing you on the blog. I'm not certain with all the rain that going out and picture taken would have been 1st on my list either. Hope things are well with you and your family.

Hey Dana - If I miss dinner again I'll never hear the end of it. :-)
That's right BOB!
Sounds like you haven't heard the last of it for the first time you missed dinner!! lol
AAAAWWWWW!!!
I hear you on the ticks and mosquitoes Wanda. It may be too late, I've got some kind of skin infection and am on antibiotics. Not a big deal. Seems to be getting better.
Things you don't want to hear in the doctor's office:

Hi, I've been out a lot today, but no word yet from Glo...So I must assume that her power is still off.
Love the cat pictures, beautiful blue eyes..
Mei is standing on her head.
Wow, Bird in the Nest and Live Feed to Go With It !
I read where Glo just missed a big ice cream social. Some ice cream company was going to give away 50,000 gallons of ice cream but at the last minute they got power restored. That probably would help cook people off.
1 P.M. UPDATE Some 26,384 Quad-City area MidAmerican Energy customers remain without power at 1 p.m. including 8,901 in Moline, 10,169 in Rock Island and 2,314 in Rock Island County, according to MidAmerican’s Web site.
and Glo is in Rock Island where the majority are without power.
I keep check to see if Glo posted any messages over on FTLOE - but nothing new yet.
Deb - wonder what the temps are out in that area?
That is Tiny Baby Littley - you can tell by his tail!!!!
Who is he talking to?
Well, that was a nice long visit. I am checking on the temp now.
Well it was short and SWEEEEET!
Nice Take off...
It is only 68 there right now with flood warnings out.
Not bad flooding, this is what it says:

Glo had said she is up on a hill - flooding may not affect her. 68° is ok without AC... It will be good to hear from her - soon I hope!
CONSISTENTLY INCONSISTENT That is a perfect description of Mei Xiang the Giant Panda Bear.
MITS: Inside the Panda House - can you see into the birthing room?
only when the cam is on it, Jo, it is too hard to see it when you are there, and if she does give birth, the house will be closed, and I'm sure they will rope us off from the area, even if we have to go into the cam room
LOL
I'm so glad Sissy got her wish---Wanda & I must have ESP.
Mits, I hope Mei stops teasing everyone soon! It sure would be nice to see a new little sweetie!
Going to watch some news
BBL
hey, PAULA, don't forget HOPKINS AT 10 ON ABC TONIGHT
The "Amercias Greatest Dog" is on at 8pm tonight.....
Hi Iris nice to see you on hear. Yep I am worried about the humidity for Glo too.
