Thursday Update
Jo Sent Steve W and I a few pics from this AM. Above is one of them.
Steve is pretty convinced now that the bird hanging out yesterday is one of the original fledges from the NCTC nest, probably a male. He will likely set up a territory with 5-10 miles of here, find a mate, and work to build a new nest.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 271 of 271I would recommend the book (or the movie, starring Spencer Tracy). It's an attempt at writing an epic in novel form, and I think it succeeds. But I usually like Hemmingway's writing.
The movie is excellent (for a movie) and it incorporates some exciting scenes of actual Marlin fishing.
Don't want to describe too much... you should read it.
Jim
Ok, I like Spencer Tracey, so will get both the book and DVD, if I can find them. I'm sure amazon.com will have the book, or can get it. Not sure about the DVD, but I'll look. Marlin fishing is exciting! They are beautiful fish, and huge, least the one's I've seen.
Yeah, he he, my hawk is a definate bird watcher! But gives the poor birds heart attacks, I think. They do make a noise when he's around!!
GOOD MORNING SUZ & JIM--
Old Man and the Sea--wonderful old movie.
I had a Hawk sitting on a branch near our feeders and a group of crows squawked and carried on while flying at him. I thought he would surely get one of them, but he gave up and flew away.
Fatty keeps moving this fish around to escape the turtles (probably small fish I can't see too) and perhaps to tear off a piece. But he's back more or less in the same place as he caught it.
Jim
Morning, Wanda! They are beautiful to watch, aren't they? This guys was just sitting watching the birds, but the birds were in my bush and the tree by the road just having a fit! One good thing, with all that noise, the hawk sure can't sneak in!!!
Hey, HAPPY FRIDAY!!!
Jim, did or are the turtles getting any meat?
Morning Mits checked in earlier, Morning Jim, Suzanne, Wanda, and watchers.
Boy Jim "fatty" is really working on that LARGE cat fish. wow.....carried it around alot then the thrushing about to get a chuck. Now going to bottom where is dropped to repick up I guess.
It is fun wataching the turtles.
Last night, Squiggles was really putting on a show. She was trying to walk and looked like a druken sailor. She finally was getting the hang of it and was able to maneuver all over that den. She looked as if she was trying to find Mom. My granddaughter came to visit and I had to leave SD and when I came back Squiggles was gone. I don't know if she managed to get out the door on her own or if Mom came and got her. She is Precious!
There he is at it again trying to get a chuck. WOW
Morning, Dana.
Yeah, Wanda, saw her scoot around yesterday while I was here! I commented on the blog, it surprised me so much to see her just sorta crawl away. Bai left, and Squiggles was on the way to following! But mom came back, picked up Squiggles in her mouth, and sat down and loved on her a bit. That was so sweet. But have to say, I've never seen the den MT when I first logon. Quite a surprise this morning. I'm guessing Bai may have Squiggles out in her newly accessed "garden" den. They said on the site that Bai has taken her kids there in the past, and I think they just gave her access to it again last week or something. I'd have to go look, don't remember exactly. I'm hoping that when someone comes to work to man the cams, they'll find the 2 camping out whereever they are!
Good morning Wanda, Dana. Good to see you too.
Can you see Fatty with his catfish at Pete's Pond?
Jim
Yes, Jim, I am watching Fatty. Thanks for the heads up--really fascinating.
MORNING DANA
Wanda, how's Karla? Getting any better?
The Panda den sure is empty! In one of the interviews last month they said Bai was taking Squiggles outside, the keepers would put her back in the den, and Bai would remove her again...until they really cleaned the den thoroughly. Then Bai brought her back in.
In the wild they often change dens when they think the smell has built up, in order to throw predators off the track.
Jim
Morning Wanda ( : tell Gene I said "good hunting and fun"..
How is Karla feeling?
I don't have her email or I would have sent her a note.
EAGLE ALERT - OUR NEST!
+ +EAGLE ALERT
Now two
OMG, both in nest!!!!!!!!
He just whipped the catfish over his head and tore off a chunk. Maybe going to get serious about eating it, so the turtles and small fishes don't get it all.
Jim
That is definately OUR EAGLES this morning ( :
Morning, Sharon and Candy. Such a nice sight to see, huh?
Morning Candy you at school or home?
Yo Jim!!! Check out our nest!
GOOD FRIDAY MORNING TO YOU MITS, SUZANNE, JIM AND SHARON. TGIF TO ALL WHO COMES ON LATER TODAY.
Got all dressed and ready this morning and am rewarded wy a visit from our Royal Couple! How exciting!
Sorry Sharon didn't mean not to say " Hi "... sent you an email yesterday.
Well, dang, there goes Belle.
SHARON, I am still at home and now don't want to go to school. :) Want to watch.
Awwww One gone aleredy. :(
BRB, you'all have the com!
It is 43" here now and the wind is really blowing up a storm. It will be chilly out here today too. No snow here tho.:)
SUZANNE How did you like finding the empty den in SD? Read where you saw Squiggles take a few steps yesterday. Now neat. The den was MT last night when I was on, so they must have spent the night somewhere else.
Good morning, Candy. Welcome to the group.
I'm trying to get to momsters to view Suz's Red-tail pics....
I'm sure the turtles are getting some food now, but Fatty keeps maneuvering it around to minimize the meat loss.
Jim
Don't you think that eagle looks a little scruffy?
HEY JIM Our nest and eagles are nicer than watching an alligaort devour a poor fish. :) I hope you are watching.
Morning Ladies,
Still not well. Been lurking all week off and on - but haven't felt like chatting. Just spoke with my father (Capt)- he said they have about 4 inches of snow in Elkins. Brrrrr....
GOOD MORMING KARLA
Boy that juvie in Maine yesterday sure was hanging on for dear life as the winds were really blowing up there when I looked at PAULA'S video.
PAULA you did a nice job on that video, Thanks, then I could also share in what you all saw yesteerday. Must be the year of the returning young eagles this year. Hope they can find a comfy nest without too much trouble.
GOOD EAGLE MORNING TO YOU WANDA AND KARLA.
KARLA, I hope you are feeling a little better today. Read that you were a little under the weather. Can't have that on here. :)
WANDA I see where Capt. Eagle has started his trip and is already waving at Glo. Such a friendly husband. :) Sure hope he has a safe trip and enjoys.
KARLE Four inches of snow is 4 inches too much. Brrrrr is right. It is nice that you got to talk to him tho.
Forgot about our nest. It's only 3:40 here.
Saw the great pics of Suz's yard and the Red-tail though.
Did you ever get any takers for the bird houses, Suz?
Jim
Hi, Carla. Didn't see you slip in here.
Jim
Morning Karla hope you soon get to feeling better.
I just blow up the pic of the eagle in our nest. I don't think it is OUR EAGLE-head not fully white and chest has white within when pic blown up
CANDY...I was just on the phone with the Capt. He said he did wave at Carol and he saw her waving back.
Karla--Donny just hooked up with Daddy.
JIM My sister just loves Red Tailed Hawks. Has a tatoo of one on her back, yuk, but she likes it. She was sooo excited the other day when I sent her some pics that another momster sent to me. They fly high over a mountain near her home in NY
Maybe Mr. Gator would like to share a little breakfast with Belle and Liberty.
It's interesting watching the little croc feed, and at least it's a catfish...the antelope can rest easy, or could if they were smart enough, for at least a week.
Jim
WANDA That is truly exciting and sooooo cool. I never actually that he would see her or her him.
DANA--I agree, that eagle just doesn't look right. Unless it is ruffled up from the wind.
Yes JIM, I would rather see him get a fish than those beautiful antelopes.
Well, darn, there goes Lib. Nice visit this morning.
Morning, Karla, glad to see you back on here. Hope you feel better soon!
Candy - thanks for the well wishes. Its settling in my chest now - it's just hitting me everywhere. Eeww. I should never have mention to SUZ that eating soup everyday will keep away the colds/flu.
My husband (Donny) who just hooked up with Capt Eagle said he came thru one heck of snow storm at Seneca Rocks
Gone. I guess he gave up wainting for breakfast. I bet they will be back tho for those of you who can stay and watch.
For me, I had better hit the road and get to school before the kids.
WANDA AND DANA I thought maybe the wind was blowing his feathers a little. They must have a sturdier tree than the one in Maine. There sure are getting to be alot of sticks in their nest.
Karla has the thingy you spoke about last night gone away?
Fatty just whipped it again and got a big chunk of catfish meat.
Looks like he's eaten more than half now. That was at least 40 lbs. when he started.
Jim
Jim, yes, had one birdhouse up and had 2 sparrows fighting over it within hours. Had babies with the winning female, and a bird has been in and out lately, the sticks have moved almost every afternoon, but I'm thinking just for protection now. I want to clean it out, but they're all still hanging around!
Soo soo nice to see Lib and Belle this morning.
KARLA, I am so glad he is still doing ok. I hate driving in the snow. AND you watch out for that getting in your lungs. I hope you got some meds; you don't want pneumonia.
Good grief, that little croc is gonna be a big croc soon at this rate! Hope he sticks to fish, though.
Candy you will have to read after Suzanne left. Wanda's comments about Squiggles. Makes you smile.
Have a good day, Candy.
Talk to you later,
Jim
Jim that does just show though how long it does take for "fatty" to eat something big. So an animal would take alot longer.
Well, HAPPY FRIDAY TO YOU ALL. SUZANNE you have a safe trip home today and hugs to your kitties and their Queen. Have a nice weekend and we'll see you bright and early Monday morning.
To the rest have a good day just watching all this putter has to offer. I'll have NZ Panda Cam on and Pets Pond of for my kids to watch.
I'm out of here. Later gators.
Mother - no its still bothering me. May have to call the doc - its weird that it wont go away or move to another part of my head.
Oh my - I have got to go and get ready for work.
Later everyone - have a great wind blowing day!!
Bye Karla & Candy--Have a good day.
Yes, Dana, plus an antelope would be bigger. But reptiles don't digest food quickly, so it will probably take at least a week before he will be hungry after that much catfish.
Jim
By Karla, have a good one.
I should probably try to get back to sleep myself.
Talk to you bird and animal watchers later.
Jim
See ya later, Candy and Karla. Candy, you have a safe trip too, and a nice weekend.
Karla, don't overdo, sleep helped me a lot too. Take care of yourself.
See ya later, Jim. Glad you stayed up long enough to see our royal couple visit. Sleep tight!
Have A Nice Day Candy and Karla...Karla keep warm.
Have a good sleep Jim...you'll be dreaming of "fatty and fish" lol
Oh, Jo's motel has 2 owls again, grooming each other.
Never mind, think the one had his/her head in such a way I thought it was 2. Just the 1 there this morning.
