Post from one year ago

June 14, 2006:

From a post by Sharon at 6:41 this am:

6:41 a.m. He is at the lauching pad. Been moving his wings a little bit, trying to get up the courage. Just back over to 9 o'clock and did a little poop shoot and then back to the lauching pad. Lightened that load a little bit! Oh my God, he just spread his wings out, he has the look. Nope, folded them back in! Doing a lot of flapping all over the nest. Back at the launching pad, looking around. Just moved a little closer to the edge. He wants to really bad! He is so close to the edge, his head gets out of camera range sometimes. He keeps spreading his wings out like he is going to and then back in. It is 6:50 now. A little head bopping going on. Camera freezing up a little bit. Wings back out. Now back in but head still bobbing. My heart is racing. Head keeps going out of view. 6:56 a.m. Wings back out. 6:58 a.m. SPUNKY HAS FLEDGED!!!

Thank You, Steve.

I distinctly remember yelling out "WooHoo! Yes, he did it" when I read that last year!

Okay. Stupid quote of the day.

I went to several ATM machines but everytime I put the card in the slip of paper said "Insufficient Funds" Guess they are all out of money.

That is the quote from a guy who went to get bond money for his brother. And it's only Thursday. Things aren't looking good for the weekend.

Jill said...

I was trying to put something in italics but I forget how, can somebody remind me? Thanks

movin said...

Jill,
You copy-paste the Little tag with the 'i' under this box.

PA falcons:
It appears only the youngest has not fledged...anybody see any of them fly?

Hey Jim your forgot the part about putting it at the end. LOL. I got it tho. Thanks again.

Morning, Paula, MemaJo, Jill and Jim. Thanks for the quote from Sharon, Steve. I remember it well! Read that on Glo's page this morning and cried. We're all a bunch of mush-buckets!
Osprey in BW nest. Oh, Jim, I've only seen the 1 falcon in PA, and I was on for hours before I saw that! There are, however, still 3 owls in Benicia. Mrs Bluebird just got off her eggs. You can see the Finland osprey's glands, she's grooming! Man, what a picture!

One of the stork babies is standing outside on the nest, beside the egg cup.

Eaglet still in BW. Both ospreys still in BW. There are 4 owls in Benicia nest, but think the biggest may be the mom, but wouldn't swear to it. First time in quite a while I've seen 4 in there. Course this is the first time in days this cam has been up! Have to do the 30 sec refresh, so it's been a while. Mrs. B on her eggs. Puget Sound parent still visiting with chick. Looks like chick may be sleeping on the unhatched egg. Kent kids are rooting around the nest. One of the stork babies is standing on outside of egg cup. Don't see the PA falcon, must be out of cam view.

Ok, that's my reports for today. Time for me to hit the road. Have to take my long hair kitty to the groomers. That should be interesting for both of us, neither of us has ever been. But she's got mats she won't let me comb, so she's either gonna let the groomer get them out, or she's gonna get shaved. Chilly today, gonna have to get her a jacket if she gets shaved.
Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!

I must say reading Sharons last year early morning post really brought back memories of all 3 kids fledging. Now "Flying Out and About... Soaring high in the sky... over hills.. valleys... rivers below,, our 3 eagles wings catching the wind... we all know in our hearts and hope we see them again... making anest at NCTC ... so they to can bring us the joy of eggs and baby's... and shed atear or 2 when they grow and fledge just like the parents did to... Nilla

Anne-Marie said...

Thanks Norma, I going to be fine just tired. I had to turn my computer off and start again. All kinds of problems this mornings. Nilla, do our kids ever come back to the nest? surely they remember where it is or do the parents chase them off like they would any other adult? Just wondering.

Anne-Marie said...

Cool Norma? Its going to over 100 again today. Its supose to cool down to the 90's by the weekend. I cant understand why anyone even goes out in it. Its not healthy. My boys play basketball in it. Crazy. I went to the grocery store last night at 10:00 to get something soft I could eat and it was 80 degrees. We need a delta breeze badly. Some of that San Francisco air would be nice about now. I know it wont last forever but I'm such a sissy.

NillaWafer said...

No Heidi Lib n Belle would chase them off for sure.. But i ment hopefully they will return to the area to build and raise their our families...

Anne-Marie said...

I saw an eagle in the wild once in front of my sons house in Oregon and I was alone and couldnt share it with anyone. It banked right in front of me and I stood there with a camera in my hand with my mouth wide open. It was amazing.

Costume Lady said...

HEIDIGIRL--
So sorry you have to wait so long to get that tooth taken care of. My daughter had the same problem and had to wait just as you do to get it taken care of. She had to have it pulled and is planning to get an implant. Are you in pain now and do you have meds. for it?

Jill said...

Hey Norma come on over, we are having stupid people on parade this weekend. LOL. I can't believe I have only been on call 16 hours, I have a long way to go. And they ain't gettin no smarter. One told me I shouldn't put him jail because the Cival War was over. If anybody can figure that one out let me know.

Anne-Marie said...

Jill, I'm on heavy meds and I dont even get that one.Thats too far out for me. After working ER for 22 years nothing surprises me. Costumelady I have to wait until the infection clears up. I'm rough and tough and I'll make it. I'm off the codiene and on motrin now. At least I can drive on it. The surgeon says she can save the tooth. Thank goodness.I have more money in my mouth than I have in my mortgage. The things people do for vanity.

Jill said...

I give up Heidi, if you are high on meds and can't figure it out, the rest of us probably don't have a chance. Hope you feel better soon. Course if you are taking pain meds, you might not feel too bad right now. LOL. Take care.

Mema Jo said...

Hello Anne All of us have been concerned about you - never did we even think Hospital- You have been through a lot! Glad you are able to make it back to work if only to take your mind off the tooth..
Nilla Memories of last year are the greatest. I was going to go back into the archives & look at our blog comments!

Anne-Marie said...

Jill, I got a notice for jury duty when I was in the hospital. Now I have never served and I really think it would be a honor to serve and interesting too but not right now. I gave the summons to my doctor to sign for a postponement and she wrote" patient is in so much pain she would not be against sentancing everyone to death." I'm almost afraid to send it off. It hurts when I laugh but at least it makes me smile.

Mema Jo said...

Watching the VA eaglets - 2 out on limb but the 1 in the nest is practicing! Too cool...... Love their cams!

Jill said...

Heidi, Judges like Drs. and Nurses have seen just about everything. They need a good laugh too.

I keep getting called for jury duty but everytime I go it is for somebody I already put in jail, so they boot me. They think I can't be fair. Go figure.

Anne-Marie said...

Just a short report before I go back to work. Santa Cz-sunbathing, 2har.each to a corner. They look like they have had a fight and are not speaking.West E. day dreaming. Kent, sleeping. P.sound, sleep. blue bird, on nest. Owls, gone. When did that happen? All is well in birdland.

NillaWafer said...

Jo any idea as to when Sharon will be coming our way? Thought i read where she said she was soon???
The Finland Osprey nest is awsome to watch but does it get dark over there??? Every time i check its day light..lol

NillaWafer said...

Please if you already havent go to "For The Love Of Eagles" on Glo's web page and see the beautiful pages and video about "OUR" Eagles of last year... To get there click on her name. Thanks Glo for those memories still brings a smile with tears reading the tributes n pictures of those tiny lil babies that captured our hearts...

glo said...

Thanks Nilla...glad you found and enjoyed. I did post 2 different links earlier this morning but yes they have kind of gotten lost a little in the celebration. Thanks for mentioning it again. It is truly a special and memorable day!

GLO--
I am new to this group of wonderful ladies (since April) and feel as if I have an extended family. I have heard so much about last year's Eagle Family that I almost felt as if I were there. Today, viewing your videos, etc., you took me there. THANK YOU
Wanda

glo said...

Wanda That is so special to know...thanks. I am glad you have a sense of those personalities and their growing up days there at NCTC...many of us will never forget. Your first nest is just around the corner next year for NCTC for sure!!!! But now you have an even better sense of what the older siblings are like LOL

paula eagleholic said...

Nilla - Sharon mentioned either the last weekend in June or the first weekend in July - that would be June 30 or July 7.

Mema Jo said...

Paula - Those dates have changed. I think it is going to be mid July. Sharon will let us know, I'm sure when her plans are firm. Believe me that the Word will go out for a get together!!

carolinabeachmom said...

Good evening to all your eagle/bird watchers out there; jo, glo heidi, nilla, jill and costume lady. BTW costume lady, how did your first day off of school go? Suzanne said something about this being your first day off. It was my first day off too. It was great.

carolinabeachmom said...

Heidi, glad to hear that you are doing much better. Never thought about a hospital stay either, but that way, it could be properly taken care of. Nice to have you back.

carolinabeachmom said...

And Glo, I think you were the hit of the day with your two videos. Like I said before, it was a beautiful job and we sure do thank you. It brought back many memories from last year.

carolinabeachmom said...

Finland parent off the birds and now back on. Ms. B is on her eggs and all four owls have settled for awhile in their box. They must get together for a meeting once a day. :)

Mema Jo said...

Since my last post around 5:00pm I have been out to dinner -
There are 2 links that you don't want to miss that Glo has given us. If you look on the last thread or the one before it- the links are there.
Nilla Sharon was trying her best to get a date when all of us were available.. I think it will be July.
Wanda, My Bluebird lady I am so glad you feel like you have been a momsters forever! It was just great when we were able to meet you, Robyn and Jill - Sure did help with the bonding.

carolinabeachmom said...

I have been looking up Shepherdstown on map quest once I heard Sharon was coming. Where do you all meet to go out to see the eagles? Map Quest didn't seem to be able to get me a route only to Shepherdstown.

carolinabeachmom said...

I was kind of close when I visited my son in Winchester and went 81 on our way to Lancaster and the Millineum Theatre. I felt I was close, but didn't know just how close. I guess you have to get off 81 and onto 11 to get over to another road to shepherdstown.

carolinabeachmom said...

Ms. B off her 5 eggs! Anyone have any idea how long until chicks hatch?

NillaWafer said...

Ok thanks Paula, Hmmmm that would put her visit right around my birthday July 1st..... Jill i brought up the regional jail and looked to see if i could guess who would have said about the civil war remark..lol The memories of last years eaglets i think will be forever in all our hearts as we shared so many feelings of laughter, tears, joy, fear, and happiness to see them each day on here as well as many trips to the nest, where they never failed to always be waitng and fly in the sky over us. OH Jo today is 10 months smoke free for me!!!!

Costume Lady said...

HI CANDY--
Nice to hear from you this time of day. Mrs. B's eggs should hatch June 23 or 24th. Don't know what will happen with the 3 Swallow eggs underneath .

carolinabeachmom said...

Congrats Nilla on 10 months of no smoking. I wish I could get my husband to do it. My mother didn't have a very pretty deaty with all it's complications.

I'm also with you on the Finland osprey nest. It never seems to get dark. They must have high powered lights on the whole countryside, or they just keep playing the whole day over.

carolinabeachmom said...

So now we have 3 celebrations today; Flag Day, Spunky's fledging and your not smoking for 10 months!

Costume Lady said...

NILLA--
What are your thoughts on smoking Now? Did you feel as if you had lost your best friend?

NillaWafer said...

Carolina, no actually you would get off at the Rt9 exit(from 81 north) which is the Va Hospitol Center, and go into Kerneysville at Sheetz make a left at light towards Shepherdstown, maybe 8 miles or so takes you right into town. When you come to the intersection if you look across the street at big red brick house that is where Sandra lives on the corner. The NCTC is str8t ahead... left turn before the bridge 3 miles back...

carolinabeachmom said...

Costume Lady, thanks for the information on the blue bird hatchings. I'll be watching!

carolinabeachmom said...

Thanks for the directions Nilla. I would love to connect up with all of you also, but I am so heavy now that I don't want anyone to see me. I had fun getting this big, but now I don't like myself very much and am starting to diet. Maybe another time. I do love to see you all in your pics you put on line, tho.

carolinabeachmom said...

Mom and Dad ospsrey both on nest in Finland now

carolinabeachmom said...

I guess Dad brought in dinner for the crew.

carolinabeachmom said...

One parent is gone again and chicks are being fed.

NillaWafer said...

No i didnt feel that way at all... I need to say that Jo also has stopped smoking as well... We both had medical conditions which for me as hard as it was to stop, the thought of more heart stents, made it easier... Like everyone says it is an addiction to the nicotine and like any drug is hard to quit.... I did mine cold turkey and i smoked for almost 45 years... Now relizing the horrible smell of your cloths n body it affects... I still could smoke a Salem as long as a yard stick..lol but would not dare!!!

Mema Jo said...

Be right Back - Need to run a very quick errand.......

carolinabeachmom said...

Nilla, you and Jo keep on trucking and stay off the cigarettes. My mother still craved them up until the end.

carolinabeachmom said...

Anne-Marie said...

good night all, a pillow is waiting for me. thanks for all of you kind words and Carolina beachmom I missed my class reunion because of that same reason . I looked at all the pictures they took and saw that most of them looked worse than me. I felt like a fool.I'm still regretting it. I'll match my fanny to yours any day.:)

NillaWafer said...

I also lost my younger sister to lung cancer Nov 21,2005, so that thought was always in my mind helping. Funny thing is it does not bother me at all to be around someone who is smoking, so thats aplus..lol Glo dont forget to print out your Bingo cards for tomarrow nights games... I am glad you noticed its always day light in Finland also...

Jill said...

Nilla-It was Meehan.

Carolina-You get to Martinsburg, we will get you to Shepherdstown. There are couple of different ways to get there but Nilla's is probably the easiest.

Costume Lady said...

NORMA--
Did you have a tornado in your area and was there any damage to your house?

NillaWafer said...

Hey Hey Hey Normaaaaaa,,, Jill i didnt guess that name actually thought it was C. Smith.. the tatooes, but i was wrong...lol

Costume Lady said...

JILL--
Do you find that there are a lot of CRAZIES out there when there is a full moon?

Jill said...

Nilla-Good guess but he wasn't one of mine. I get City only.

Wanda-3 days prior to the full moon are usually what we call White Trash night. Full moon usually just really really really weird stuff. 3rd day past the full moon everybody cuts loose. So anybody working those 3 nights is in trouble. And heaven help you if you get all three which does happen sometimes.

Costume Lady said...

JILL--
So I guess that means we should stay home three days before the full moon and three days after.HaHa!

Jill said...

Or if you want entertainment better than tv come down town. The best writers in Hollywood couldn't write this stuff.

Jill said...

Did I mention that if any of those 3 days falls the day before holiday or weekend it is much worse?

NillaWafer said...

Jill my sister worked in Jefferson Co for one of the judges she was Linda Lee,,, she passed way...

Jill said...

Don't recognize the name but my friend probably knew her, she has worked for Shep. pd for years. She was lucky, she didn't have to see the prisoners when they were drunk/high. Course they are more fun that way. LOL

I was over in the 2006 archives reading our comments concerning Spunky's big day. We all used the same words lots of times - it was

I really believe it!

Will Nilla she probably got to see quite a bit. Althought county magistrates usually don't see them for a couple of hours after they are arrested. I get to see them within the hour. JOY JOY. But if she was there before video arraignments I bet she had some stories to tell.

Suzanne said...

Good morning, eagle world. Morning, Jo, and morning, Wanda. Missed you yesterday, you just sorta popped in and popped out. Candy was here for coffee!
Chilly out, or as I would say, cold out. 53° at my house, and only 60° here. Wore a jacket. Was going to yesterday, but didn't, and froze all day. So today I have my jacket on! Cold in my house when I woke up too, and I got poor Gypsy shaved yesterday afternoon, so was gonna give her a blanket, but didn't figure she'd use it! I'm sure she'll be ok. She looks like a little lion, she is so cute! She is very soft, and still has her head and mane, legs and tail, and she just looks like a mini male lion. Nice little figure too, she's not fat at all, but very nicely built. It went well, for the most part, and I only have about 4 or 5 little holes in my hands, but they'll heal! (I helped hold her.) Not too much blood!
Our cam has an awesome pic, both BW nests are MT, can't see a thing on the PA falcon cam, and of course dark in Kent. However, I am in Finland, beautiful pic, and the middle of the day over there. 0436 here, 1136 there, so maybe the chicks will get lunch in a little while.
All have a good day, we made it to FRIDAY!!!! I am so glad! Will check other cams in a few minutes. Eyes to the sky, see the raptors fly!

Suzanne said...

Osprey parent just left, cute chicks are sleeping in the sun.

Suzanne said...

Parent back, gone less than 2 minutes. They are beautiful birds!!!

Suzanne said...

OMG, I just noticed! There are still 2 eggs in the nest!!! Oh how cool is that! I sure hope they hatch.

Suzanne said...

Well, this is not good. Our cam is going blotto again, psychadelic lines all over it. And now, white lines. Easier on the eyes than the psycho ones, but makes it hard to see the MT nest. Kids must be sleeping in again today.

Suzanne said...

Eaglet in BW.

Suzanne said...

Getting light out, still an eaglet in BW, osprey nest MT, our nest what I can see, MT. Storks are talking amongst themselves, and the falcon ledge looks MT, but I've only seen a couple views, maybe there is a chick out of cam view. Finland, however, is totally awesome!
Dang, there are the psycho lines and colors again.

Suzanne said...

Well, there is at least 1 falcon on the ledge! So he's strolling up and down, and just this time caught the cam. See? This refresh, gone.
BW eaglet still in nest, can't really see our cam, and osprey nest MT.
BRB...

Suzanne said...

EAGLE ALERT!!!

Suzanne said...

Well, darn. Now gone! Bummer.

Suzanne said...

Now the psycho spots are back. At least I got a glimpse, think it might have been Belle, have to look at the one pic I took!

Suzanne said...

Now clear pic on our cam. Eaglet still in BW, falcon on corner of ledge. Now we have white lines again. Brother, this is gonna make me crazy!

Steven, we're gonna send you to Finland, so you can learn what they do, and then come back to NCTC and implement all their stuff. Course we're gonna have to raise some serious funds for your trip, and all the new cam gear, but we'll work on it. You'll like Finland, but you'll have to go during the summer...daylight all the time.

Suzanne said...

I don't know if Finland has 1 more egg or 2. One for sure. Bw eaglet is eating. I can see 2 barn owls in nestbox, and Finland parent is back on babies and egg.

Suzanne said...

Osprey just arrived in BW. You can see part of a fish the eaglet is eating. PA falcon still on corner of ledge. Our nest MT.

Suzanne said...

BW eaglet left, not many leftovers.

Suzanne said...

BW eaglet and our nest MT, osprey grooming in their nest. Falcon cam hasn't updated for a while, but I'm guessing the one falcon is still there. Dark in Kent, MT barn owl nest box. There were 2 this morning that I saw, so maybe they're up front getting up their nerve to fledge. Stork chicks were all talking at once, now they all have their heads down in the egg cup. Falcon sitting on chicks and egg(s) looking at cam.

Suzanne said...

Our nest is still MT, BW eagle MT, osprey on side of nest. Two owls in Benicia nestbox, storks are standing talking, falcon ledge is MT, at least chick is out of sight, and Finland chicks are getting lunch.

Suzanne said...

Both parents in Finland!

Suzanne said...

Never mind, that was a quick in and out. Chicks are still being fed.

Costume Lady said...

GOOD MORNING SUZ--
I think your idea to send Steve to Findland to learn how to fix up a cam like that for us is an excellent idea. We will have to do a lot of thinking on how to raise the funds to do that. But, seriously, wouldn't that be wonderful if we had a cam view like that?

Costume Lady said...

The Findland camera seems to be acting up when it refreshes. Has it been doing that or did I just notice it?

Gonna get some COFFEE.

Suzanne said...

Morning, sleepyhead CostumeLady! Yup, I think that would be wonderful to have a cam like Finland! We're gonna have to put our heads together to figure out how to raise some serious funds for his trip! You didn't miss much, saw an eagle in the nest for 1 refresh, that's it. Maybe they'll be back for a visit later.

Sometimes it refreshes slow, but then comes back in a minute or so. Had a problem with that yesterday, but then it cleared up. No problems with it today. But it's in the middle of the day for them, there are probably more people online now than there are later when folks go home from work.

Suzanne said...

One falcon is on the very corner of the ledge, looking down. Think that may be the last one, and he's lonely. Maybe he will fledge.

Suzanne said...

There are 2 falcons on the ledge. One is in the center of ledge eating, one is up by where cam cuts off, on right side, bottom. Don't know if one of them is a parent.

Suzanne said...

One owlet in nestbox now, holding her wings out. Very spotted chest, so that's a lady!!

carolinabeachmom said...

Goodmorning Suzanne and all eagle/bird watchers out there! It is FRIDAY!

carolinabeachmom said...

Costume lady, yesterday, you went for coffee and were never heard from again! :) I bet you went back to bed!!

carolinabeachmom said...

I can't talk as I just got up. Our visitor left so I ran right in here to see what was going on.

carolinabeachmom said...

Suzanne, I saw four barn owls in the nest box last night, so they must come back to talk to eachother about the days happenings.

AND what great news! The Finland osprey still has some unhatched eggs to go. You have a good eagle eye Suzanne. I sure hope they hatch too, then we will really have something to watch.

Suzanne said...

Morning, Candy! She sure did, didn't she...go for coffee, then AWOL. Reminds me of the time Jo went to the loo and was gone for 2 or more hours! Too funny.
There are 2 falcons on the ledge, both juvies. they were doing wing flaps to each other a sec ago.
Still 1 osprey in nest, our nest and BW eagle, MT. Parent in tree and chicks are sleeping in Kent. Storks are sleeping, parent guarding them. 2 Benicia owls in nestbox still. Saw 3 this morning earlier. Parent is in nest with chick at Puget Sound, Mrs. B on eggs, and I haven't seen Mrs. Owl in WA for a long time. Wonder if she found a new home? Finland chicks getting fed again.

Suzanne said...

Yes, it was exciting to see an egg this morning in Finland. Thought I saw 2, but then I looked closer, and it may only be 1. But the smallest chick lays on it and around it, so didn't see it until he moved this morning. Hope it hatches soon. Not sure when these guys hatched, so don't know how old they are. If I had to guess, I would say no older than a week or week and a half for the largest one. Let's hope the other egg hatches, that will be cool.

carolinabeachmom said...

Suzanne, it the one chick is laying on it, it has a better chance than not, no? I mean the mother doesn't even have to worry about sitting on it; the chick does it for her! :)

carolinabeachmom said...

Suzanne, are you still getting a pic of the Pa. falcon? All I get is a blue screen!

Suzanne said...

Candy, I have the blue screen too. I think they do something every morning. Pic will be back in a minute.

Suzanne said...

It's back now, and one falcon is right on corner.

Suzanne said...

Dang, just went to tell you, finland parent turned egg.

carolinabeachmom said...

Mrs. B is off eggs for a second and they are still there waiting to hatch.

Owls are very quiet this morning. They must have taken a tranqulizer. :)

One baby stork up and about and Mama opsrey still on her babies.

carolinabeachmom said...

One lone osprey on our BW nest. He looks soooo forlorn. That poor nest hasn't had a good year either.

carolinabeachmom said...

That is so interesting about Finland. I didn't have any idea that it was that far north to cause it to be light for so long. You learn something everyday. Very interesting. I do think that last night I did see a horizon of dark sky, but the nest and treetops all around it were like lit up.

Suzanne said...

I'll send you a map Lisa sent me of where the nest is located. It's on an island. Really neat! Look at the osprey in BW..he has a stick in his talons. Not sure if he's bringing in new material, or rearranging.

carolinabeachmom said...

It looks like it is going to be another chilly day here today. We had a good NE wind blowing. The sun did come out, but I wound up closing all my windows in the house as the afternoon wore on. We have no sun yet again today. Sure it is just "sleeping" a little and will come out later to warm it up. I am sitting here in my winter housecoat, not wanting to turn the heat on. :(

carolinabeachmom said...

I don't know if that is the same one that I saw sitting there for awhile on the edge or not. I wish something happy would happen in that nest.

carolinabeachmom said...

Now BW osprey is sitting on the other corner; (Standing on the corner, just watching all the girls go by!) Does that song date me or what?

Suzanne said...

LOL, no worries about dating anyone here! We've almost ALL been there, and know what you're singing.
I was cold this morning too, when I got up, but there's something wrong with turning the heat on in mid-June! I closed my windows yesterday afternoon too, way too chilly. Took an extra hot shower this morning, that helped. Of all days to get my cat shaved, she's gonna be freezing! Sun is out here, but it's only warmed up a little. Still need a jacket on when you go outside.
Does the Finland osprey seem restless to you? She's up, down, back up, turning the egg, down, can't seem to get comfy.
I just had that email from Lisa this morning, but every Friday I have to move my mail, and I did that already too. now I can't find it! I'm still looking, though!

Suzanne said...

Found it, on the way to ya.

carolinabeachmom said...

Mrs. B is back on her eggs, thank you very much. Does anyone know if both parents sit on the nest or just the Mom?

carolinabeachmom said...

Good morning Norma. You are up with the earlybird Suzanne. We can't seem to find costume lady; she went for coffee again and hasn't come back!:) I hope a big bird didn't come and carry her off!:)

Costume Lady said...

GOOD MORNING CANDY--
If you are still in your housecoat, then you must be a member of the PJ Club.

It seems each morning, here lately, after I check in on the morning news from Suz, I go to get my coffee and my better half gets up. I can't sit at the computer and have my coffee with my friends--I like having some quite time with him before the day gets too hectic. I come back to the computer when he reads the newspaper.

normabyrd said...

CANDY!---CANDY!---What do you MEAN--DATE you!!---I had already joined in with you!!---Was that the 4 LADS?----Saw them in OC many "moons" ago---THAT DOESN'T DATE US!!---ho!-----WE STILL GOT IT!!!---You listen to HEIDIGIRL!!!

Costume Lady said...

GOOD MORNING TO YOU NORMA--
Can you tell us about the storm in your area--was it real bad?

Suzanne said...

Good morning, Norma. And look who is back! We were getting ready to send out a search party, CostumeLady!
Norma, had a post written, and blogger cop came and got it. Bottom line, I have pics, when I get a chance, I'll send them out. But I think if you look at the pics from yesterday, you may see the egg. Sorta white with brown spots...next to or between the chicks. Blends really well with their brown nestcup.

carolinabeachmom said...

I just got my coffee, burned my toast and set the fire detector off, so I am off to a WONDERFUL start to the day. Thank goodness no one was here but me. :)

Suzanne said...

CostumeLady, you are officially excuised from having coffee with us gals so you can have coffee with your hubby! We'll keep ya posted so you don't miss anything.

Suzanne said...

LOL, Candy...
take a deep breath.
Take a sip of coffee.
Take another deep breath (oh, don't forget to let it out)
Another sip.
Now sit down and relax.
Day will get better.
Watch Finland, chick is trying to get out from under mom...

carolinabeachmom said...

Yes, I am still in my housecoat Wanda. Too lazy to get dressed yet on only my second day of summer break!

normabyrd said...

SUZANNE----Note about GYPSY!!---My youngest had a huge sheep dog--"CAPON"----You know so much hair she can't see!---She would get all that fur tangled with burrs, etc.---WOULD have to go get her combed out--ho!---(Same as GYPSY)---Sheared big time---CAPON acted COMPLETLY DIFFERENT until her hair grew out--I bet you might see some of that with GYPSY!!!---

carolinabeachmom said...

Maybe that is what is making the mother osprey so restless, Suzanne. She has been up and down and around all morning. Maybe she should fly to my crazy house this am. I did what you said, and now am calmer and ready to watch again. Thanks for the tip! There is never a dull moment; maybe that is why I am still in Kindergarten after 23 years. :)

Costume Lady said...

OH, CANDY--
Please, keep your housecoat on, that is what makes you a member of the PJ Club. If you keep your night clothes on until llam or noon, that is a good thing!

carolinabeachmom said...

I got my chuckle for the day when I read about Suzanne taking her dog to the groomers. Only a few little bites when she held Gypsy! Well at least now she is much neater and sleek looking. She will feel much better and so will Suzanne when she doesn't have to struggle with her to comb her hair.

carolinabeachmom said...

Wanda, that is great!!! I still have 3 more hours to loaf around. Super cool! I'm glad you are back this morning and we didn't have to send out Nilla with her police friends to get you back. :)

Costume Lady said...

I go out to the garden each morning and pick my Snow Peas in my PJ's. (We don't have any close neighbors)

normabyrd said...

OH WANDA!---We had a severe storm------Now that I look back----more of an inconvenience!!----Blew down electric & cable lines, etc.----
p.s.---I had snow peas last nite!! ho!

Costume Lady said...

Speaking of sending out search parties--we haven't heard from FLORALGIRL for a long time. Maybe we should ask Nilla or Jill to contact their contacts and check in on her. We have had a lot of rain, so she shouldn't be busy watering her flowers.

carolinabeachmom said...

Finland parent just left the nest.

carolinabeachmom said...

And now back. Maybe they just changed places. Suzanne, I hope you got a pic of the baby chick's head sticking out from under the parent. That was so cute.

Suzanne said...

Nothing wrong with being in a housecoat at this hour, good grief, it's only 9:15! You should at least be good to go till around 3 or so. And if you don't have to go out, why change? I live in sweats on the weekends! Just too comfy to put real clothes on. (Unless I absolutely HAVE to go out.)
Norma, when I brought Gypsy home last night, gave her treats cause she was so good (well, could have been worse!), then she proceeded to TOTALLY wash every stray hair off her body. Her kids weren't sure what the deal was, and they sorta looked at her, then smelled her, then tails got puffy, then Gypsy growled. Kids went off, tails not so puffy anymore. She ate dinner like she was starving (after treats), so I think she may still have been nervous. But then she settled down and came in for pets while I was watching the news. But so far, I haven't noticed a difference. What was different in the way Capon acted?
And gotta say, Candy. Nothing wrong with being in Kindergarten for 23 years! You can act like a kid and get away with it...it's expected! Too fun.

carolinabeachmom said...

I just baximized the Finland nest and there are two parents on the nest. Sorry

Suzanne said...

Yup, I did Candy. Both parents in nest now!!!

carolinabeachmom said...

Yup, it is feeding time.

Suzanne said...

OMG, parent feeding chick. Did you see that? Little mouth wide open! too cute.

OSPREY at BW---Read LISA'S comments as to why the OSPREYS hang around when they don't have CHICKS!!!---I am sure that is what LIBERTY & BELLE are doing----SHOWING the world---"THIS IS OUR NEST---WE HAVE NOT ABANDONDED IT-----WE LIVE HERE!!

Suzanne said...

Norma, if you look at the pic Lisa has of the 2 chicks in Finland, then look at the one towards the rear, back by his rear, that white and brown thing is not a branch. That's the other egg. I never noticed it until you made your comments about reading what Lisa wrote, and I wanted to check it out.

normabyrd said...

SUZ!!--CAPON--being an english sheep dog---She was so "out going"--Greeting everyone, jump up, etc.--UNTIL HAIR GREW BACK OUT----She became almost SHY--Wasn't as playful as before--kids thought she seemed to know she looked different--(ho!)---Hair grew in & CAPON was "lickin'" everyone again!!

Suzanne said...

Switch. One that was feeding took off, other parent there. Lots of fish leftovers.

Suzanne said...

I'll be darned. Gypsy seems pretty much the same now, but we'll see what happens over the weekend. I think she feels better! And of course, I have to tell her she's so cute now.

The shaved animals are embarrassed folks. They have feelings too. How would you feel if somebody shaved all your hair off without asking you. LOL My friend has a long haired cat. Not only did she get it sheared, they left a tuft of hair at the tip of the tail, around each paw and around it's neck. Didn't see that poor thing for days.

Okay gotta go to work. Idiots never sleep in this town. Have a great day, I will check in later.
