Its thick of fog as mud over here...I hope you all have better weather for the Barb-B_Q and the Memorial Day weekend events with family gatherings and all

Having an ocular migraine. Wow. Colors.

HODA, the weather is beautiful here, near Shepherdstown...getting warm already (sorry) 75° going to be hot later..89°. Beautiful day for a picnic, if you have shade:)

Lynn...it is my knee. Every step is extremely painful. Not due for another shot til July 27...don't know what to do. I am SO READY to get the new knee. Going to ask Dr. De Bord to refer me to Dr. Knutsen. Have never had the knee x-rayed...think I should, and talk to Knutsen about how long I will be incapacitated. Hate to do anything now with GG being so fragile with her ailment...may have to...Can't be much help to her like this. Praying to be shown the way!

Costume Lady said...

Sorry, Shirley...Lynn and I, both, get those. Do not get the headache, just visual occurrences. Sometimes, a slight headache.
Had a really bad one once, when the shop was open in October, and couldn't see to write up tickets. Had customers to help me make up their own sales slips:)

stronghunter said...

No pain, just visual.

stronghunter said...

Rus has them, too. He knows of some remedy, but I do not remember. I have not had this often.

Ksthryn fell and banged up her knee this morning. We are a pair today.

Happy Birthday dear Lori, may this be a very special day, for a very special M♥mster xoxo ♥ ☺

Reminds me of my Denise...she has opened up a photography studio in her house and her knees are a skinned up from sliding around on the carpet doing shoots:)

and will continue with:
Prayers for our ailing Momsters and their families:

Shirley, and Kathryn...

and I know there are others here with those prayer needs also...

GOOD MORNING, MARGY...are you at work or home?

magpie said...

I wanted to ask you a few days about Denise, Wanda, and her new venture...hope it goes well, she might need some Knee Pads !

magpie said...

It is intensely windy at both Loch of the Lowe's and Loch Garten...

looks dark and dreary at the Loon Cam in Minnesota also...maybe kind of like the weather Hoda is having

Lynne2 said...

GOOD MORNING! 86 and HUMID as all get out here this morning. Wish I lived where Hoda lives!

Wish I lived closer to you and GG Wanda. SO sorry about your knee. You should not only get an x-ray but an MRI! It sucks living so far from everyone who needs help, although I'm thinking I'll need some too. Had a very bad night and morning so far. Really sharp pain in my left side/back. Knees are very painful. Going to have to take a Trammy today. UGH.

BUT.....I SAW I KILLDEER!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never seen one before! Little sucker kept moving away from me so I couldn't get a picture. Then I lost sight of him because guess who came back...Mr Redtail! and he had breakfast in his talons AND was being mobbed by about 10 RED WING BLACKBIRDS!!!! I have never seen a mobbing such as that! I've seen crows mob hawks, but never RWBBs!!!!

stronghunter said...

Wanted to go grocery shopping, but need to wait awhile until I am sure I am seeing okay. It is better now or I would not be on here.

magpie said...

I'm at home, Wanda...
trying to get myself pulled together for whatever I plan to do today, but am moving slowly

Lynne2 said...

And I see Kathryn is banged up in the knee this morning....OMG!!! ICE ICE BABY!!

Shirley, what do you mean you see "colors"??

Lynne2 said...

Maybe we should all go back to bed for a Panda Nap and we'll wake up in better shape!

magpie said...

Great bird-sightings, Lynne...
I have killdeer here in the neighborhood and at work, and see them often in Berkeley Springs...
they make their nests in little stone patches on the ground....
they do a broken-wing act to lure predators away from the nest, it is something to see !

Good Morning, did you see the forget-me-not email, and if not, you can check Magpie's Roost...

magpie said...

okay Lynne I just added you to the Prayers for Momsters list...
so sorry,
you Ladies take it easy today, and do what you need to do for YOURSELVES...

Wanda, maybe some home-help can be lined up for GG, some good, honest, industrious college or high school kids ???

So you can get yourself taken care of.....

Lynne2 said...

Just looked Margy, and YES, I am pretty sure those match the leaves on the stuff growing outside!!!! YAY!

magpie said...

Regarding the Goshawk nest in Scotland:
The middle chick of three, was lost at the bottom of the extremely deep nest cup there on the overnight of May 25-May 26.
Unfortunately, essentially smothered under largest chick and the Mom....
Mother Goshawk removed chick from the nest Thursay morning May 26.
The other two chicks, seem to be doing okay. Big difference in their sizes.
It seems that Mom Hawk is trying to fortify the nest, was placing pine sprigs on the chicks, for whatever reason... overnight when I was up for ISS.
Very sad that this kind of thing happens....

Here is the link to that nest, it is beautiful to see the hawk fly in and out:

Goshawk, Scotland

magpie said...

for some reason no sound there right now...they have had some technical problems
it took me awhile to find the blog with the information. Kay and I have emailed each other about it, because we were watching Friday morning, wondering about the 3rd chick....

Hope so, Lynne...they are a wonderful little plant, the Forget-me-nots.
I brought home some plants from Massachusetts in May 2003, and have been growing them from those seeds ever since !
From my sister's

stronghunter said...

Ocular migraines cause you to see odd shapes and colors, Lynne. Mine are not painful. I haven't had many, but it scared me at first. I went to the eye doctor. He figured it out quickly.

I really think too many hours on the computer triggers mine.

magpie said...

Lynne
every year but this one, my plants have overwinter-wintered, wilted little plants from which new growth would emerge... and I would have blooms and blossoms by now,
but this year I had to start over from seed....

magpie said...

Okay, time for me to check in with some siblings, and see what James is up to today, think we will be getting together for a trip to the cemetery, and maybe a water balloon and squirt gun adventure, might take him to Swinging Bridge and we could splash around in the creek...
this time of year now thru summer a lot of people do that....so my solitary time there is limited

chicks at Goshawk are peeping
and getting fed !!!

magpie said...

Best wishes to all with Special Family things going on today...
Congratulations to all our Momsters and Dadsters with graduates !

Shirley, you mean you see random things, or are the things you are looking at miscolored and shapen?

Hoda said...

Oh sorry to hear about the migraine and the knee pain...hope there is some healing soon Stronghunter.

I like hearing that it is warm somewhere in the world and our sun is coming up throught he fog so the day is looking up already. Sorry I have been so complaining about the weather and thank you for telling me about yours...it will improve and we will get some sun I am sure of it in a few days...Picnic in honour of Memorial Day I well remember them from when I lived there...in your honour I will go to the Park and have my lunch today after I go to yoga...back is not too bad this morning after paddling yesterday and that brings me a big smile...

stronghunter said...

A blind spot. I could not see the images on the computer screen nor the letters on the keyboard. Then a jagged circular shape with rainbow colors vibrating. It has never lasted very long.

stronghunter said...

Hoda, I'll be picnicking in the park with you in spirit! Sure glad you aren't in pain after yesterday!

Lynne2 said...

wonder where our birthday girl is this morning?? It's a BIGGIE for her!

Lynne2 said...

I THINK I may have seen Purple Martins too! The place where I saw the Killdeer is just up the street. They started to build a sub-division there a few years ago but something went wrong. Anyway, there's a man made pond thing there. Lousy with algae and bugs flying over. These were dark, but some had a lighter underside. And they were a bit larger than I thought Purple Martins were. But I've just been looking them up, and I am pretty sure that's what was there....they were flying low over the water, catching bugs.

And just when I thought my peak "new" birding sightings was already past me!

hedgie said...

Oh, the joys of living in the woods. Heard this horrible clacking noise outside.....realized it was coming from the A/C fan unit outside.....looked to see 6" of snake tail sticking up through the top. Of course, called Bill---he said go ahead and pull it out. It was JUST that piece of tail...and no noise when I turned it back on...so he says the rest of the snake probably got chewed up by the fan blades.....wonder what kind of smell that's going to create out there? UGH!! He apparently was still hanging out in same area I first saw him....hoping for chicks to fall out of nest? Or had he been up there?? Didn't see parents this AM.

Lynne2 said...

oh my GOSH....LYNN! How GROSSSSSS! eeeewwwwwie!!!!! You poor thing, and I thought I was having a bad morning!

I guess he must have crawled in when the unit wasn't running...maybe it was warmer than the ground. Oh my, poor snake, poor Lynn :(

Lynne2 said...

going to get some things done...BBL!

hedgie said...

Lynne, ocular migraines eliminated peripheral vision and sometimes straight-line vision, usually in only one eye at a time. There is an oval of colored zig-zag lines that we seee whether eyes are open or closed. Very strange.....usually no pain except sometimes a mild headache afterward. It is usually all over in 30 mins. We can usually tell one is coming by vision getting very blurry a minute or so before the colors start. THey say it is totally harmless. I've neveer heard of any way to prevent it---but sure would like to!! There are times when I can have several a day or week, and then weeks and weeks with none!!

hedgie said...

Lynne, sorry your back and knees are acting up again.

Shirley, I'm sure you are okay now, right? Poor Kat! Any open wounds or just bruising? ICE!!!

Wow----Andy said that Ken's dr. said it could take a year for his knee swelling to go away. :(

Wanda, a cousin of the girls owns a great home health aid agency that I can hook you up with to help with GG. You really need to go ahead and pursue the surgery. This might be a good way to get GG accustomed to change. Tell her you need her to come stay with you as you recover. She will feel needed, you can keep an eye on her, and Gene can play nurse!!
Definitely tell Denise to wear knee pads!!! Carpet installers do.

hedgie said...

Is this Lori's 40th????

magpie said...

Oh my, I return and find a whole mess of injured momsters.

Shirley, hope your vision returns to normal quickly and Kathryn's is not too limiting.

Wanda, I think Lynn has a good suggestion. Maybe just think about it. Knee pads for Denise seems like a reasonable solution.

Lynne2, don't recall you saying what causes the pain but wishing it away. However, you have been able to see some really great birds.

Lynn, so gross. Maybe take a hose and power wash the unit to sort of clean it out.

Hi Hoda. So happy you're not in serious discomfort after yesterday's fun. So, have you decided on Saturday only?

Margy, have fun with James and with others you may meet up with.

Okay, beef short ribs are braising in the oven. I can relax and read for the afternoon. Dinner will be easy. Short ribs, leftover salad, baby Yukon's with butter/parsley.

Judie said...

Hey Lynn, I'll trade you 5 squirrels for 3 deer.

hedgie said...

Hey, Judie....sounds like a yummy AND easy dinner. Good suggestion about washing out the fan unit....can't hurt and it might help! Do think I'll wait til morning, tho', so I don't have turn off the A/C now---it is HOT. 86° out and feels like it's almost that high inside when it shuts off!!

Loretta never answered about the route they were taking to Paw Paw....if she drove right by my road, I'm gonna be upset! But they probably took 50 out of Winchester to 522 and went up the southerly route.

JudyEddy said...

*92 out now anyone want to trade

hedgie said...

HOda, I am so glad that you don't seem to be suffering from yesterdays extreme sports!

Hey, Jim! Are you going to your sister's today or tomorrow for a picnic?? Enjoy your cooler temps!

Finney2 cam is still stuck on yesterday morning...no action on any of the others that I can see....and cormorants are in fog today!

hedgie said...

Judie....I've got more squirrels that Carter's has little pills!!
Thanks, but no thanks!

JudyE....do you get sea breezes? Or guess that should be gulf breezes? That makes the humidity much easier to tolerate.

Lori O. said...

Aren't you all the BEST? YES!!!

Thank you so much for all the Birthday wishes. Very nice of you.

A big kiss for you Lynn! Make that 40 plus a decade. We had a BBQ last night and they sang Happy Cook Out to me to the tune of Happy Bday because I said I didn't want a party.

PAULA you said you thought we were around the same age, and I thought no way because you look so young! I'm just glad that I'm not the only half centennarian Momster this year.

Kate gave me a BIGGER lens for my camera, and a new tripod that can support it, so I've been in heaven hanging out in the garden disguising myself between tall vines and bushes so I can get closer to the BIRDS! I've been taking pics all weekend!

I'm so excited about the possiblity of taking pics of the baby vultures when they arrive! I'd like to check on them this weekend. We discovered the eggs on May 1 and they incubate for 40 days. I don't know how long they were there before I found them, but I guess it really could be anytime.

Thanks again for the nice birthday thoughts. I love you all. ♥

SHIRLEY, WANDA and LYNN Ihope you're all feeling less pain very soon if not immediately!

LYNNE I agree about how nice it would be to live closer to help those in need. My neighbor who had a heart attack a month ago, just had kidney stone surgery this week. His wife asked me if I could mow their property so it would look nice when she bring shim home. I was thrilled to be able to help and so happy she asked. We'll make dinner and take it over for them tonight.

HODA, I may be moving to BC if it only gets up to 75! Sounds wonderful.

friends. You are right "God Give Them Strength". Great words Hoda.

Sorry about Robyn's dog. Some of us
have been there lately and understand.
Rainbow bridge is a beautiful place.
(((((Hugs to Robyn)))))

The email showing all the help Joplin is getting. Is so caring from the school and many other people. Still so much for them to go through. Prayers !!

Wanda Sorry about that knee. You probably need to go ahead with the knee replacement.

Shrley prayers for you too and Lynn2

WOW,sure am glad I don't get occular migranes!

Lori, Happy B'day! Left a message for you on FB! I'm so excited about your pending baby vultures! And what a nice thing you did for your neighbor.

heat advisory in effect starting tomorrow. DUH! HEAT TODAY! I have been out sawing low branches off of trees in the yard to make it easier to mow. Trimming, by hand, all the edges (weed eater broken). And raking some grass. Steve is going to be MAD as HE** when he sees what I've done! I'm supposed to be resting. But I feel better moving around anyway, and haven't had to take a Trammy!

Judie, I know what causes most of my pains, but some I cannot account for. I just can't figure on WHY it hurts so much sometimes and not others.

Lynne2 said...

There has been a redshouldered hawk moving around outside raising all kinds of racket....

Well, Lori, I like to think I am not old enough to be your mama either. I am 67 and glad I did not have a child at 17. Yikes! Did not become a mama until I was 25!! Anyway, hope your day is going great! Do wish any of you were here for a "0" birthday. We do have fun! There are some absolutely hilarious cards out there about aging! It is so much better than the alternative so let's have fun as we age together!!

well, I 'm going to run back outside and see if I can get my huge mess cleaned up and dumped before Steve gets home. Maybe he won't notice! LOL! He's over at one of my former landlord's rental properties helping to get it in shape for new tenants. the previous people rented the place for 25 years! And what a mess it is over there...lots of repairs and cleaning up to be done. It's an old farmhouse on 4 acres of fenced pasture with a new 5 stall pole barn and 4 other stalls in a large run in. Garage, sheds, etc. Would be the perfect place for someone with horses! In a really nice location, too!

yes Lolly, most of the time, almost all of the time, I feel better if I move around. But I'm betting I'll be an unhappy camper by sundown! Need to get serious about doing some Yoga and stretching.

OH, I feel now that I have done very well taking my baby steps towards losing weight. SO I will be back on my eating program effective TUESDAY!!

Good afternoon ! Looks like it's time to weigh in on whether or not we're old enough to be LORI's mom. I certainly am and would be delighted to call her daughter ! My baby turned 50 on Feb. 9th and his older sisters are now 52 and 55. I had them all within two weeks after turning 24. Pleased I had them early, but am so glad my kids were all 30 before marrying. They were, by then, well educated, traveled and had sown any wild oats necessary. They are raising great grands for me to enjoy now !

Hi,
Rus said that Gatoraid is supposed to help get rid of ocular migraine. I think he had one when he was driving and stopped and get Gatoraid. Not safe to drive when you can't see.

Stopped and got Gatoraid ... 0n phone.

Kay said...

You gals are way too young to be having all the aches, pains, stiffness you're describing ! I feel so blessed in not having all that stuff set in until I was at least 70. Hope you all find the remedies needed to alleviate the suffering and soon !

LYNN, your wreath avatar is lovely !

MARGY, it looks like Mother Goshawk has filled in the nest cup and the chicks are very comfy in their newly restored home.

Seth tells me they have a cute little House Finch couple setting up housekeeping in a Boston Fern that hangs in their patio. They plan to very carefully water it on the non-nest side and hope they are successful in raising a family there. He and I had our usual good Sat/Sun. He was pleased with the hug, LORI !

JudyE, I'm ready to trade places with most anyone -- AC died yesterday so it's ceiling fans or nothing. Agree, Lynn. Wait till you can turn the AC off for a few minutes.

Lori, stop by here and pick me up on the way to Hoda's "cool" place. Very glad you had such a nice birthday non-birthday party. Can't wait to see pictures -- not on FB but maybe some on the blog?

Hope Lowreeda has a good time and that her knee is not being too uncomfortable.

WVDana, thank you for reminding me. Robyn, I am sorry for the loss of your dog. I think all of us can relate to how sad you must be.

Ah, I believe the suspicious demise of the Hedgesville reptile may have occurred near a place called The Lower Gate. Some early reports suggest a teacher may have been involved while other reports indicate a retired nurse may be the prime suspect. Stay tuned for the next episode of The Mystery of The Reptile and The Lower Gate AC.

Watering carefully in a hanging basket containing a nest and babies has never stopped our finches or sparrows. Just water on the opposite side and don't saturate.

Bye

stronghunter said...

Have carefully watered plants when bird nests were there, too, Judie. Just enough water to keep the plant going while not getting birds or eggs too wet.

Shirley, wonder what's in Gatorade that helps those types of migraines?

Hoda said...

I just watched the Live Coverage of your President's speech in Joplin. So many Stories of HEROISM in this City. The storm can not defeat GOD'S GRACE indeed!

Kay said...

Right, JUDIE and SHIRLEY ! My Julie and I have both had sparrows in our Boston Ferns in past years. It just seems so special to have colorful little finches to observe this time ! Sparrows are discouraged by nuttin' ! I planned to find a couple of those birds Iris used on her wreath in Florida. Looked a couple of places and then forget to keep looking. No birds in the ferns on my front porch this year, however. Good !

stronghunter said...

Don't know Lynne.

Kay said...

eHow Health says:

Gatorade is often recommended as a cure for headaches. This is because headaches are often related to dehydration, particularly during the summer months and in active individuals. Gatorade does not actually treat the pain of the headache; rather, the beverage is used to replenish the body's store of liquids and electrolytes. The Gatorade resolves the cause of the headache, which eliminates the pain.

Yeah, let's hear it for those electric lights !

Judie said...

Perhaps Shirley can get some Gatorade and use the electric lights to solve the mystery of the Reptile and The Lower Gate.

Kay said...

JUDIE, who needs Jessica Fletcher, Miss Marple, Nancy Drew or Sherlock himself. We Momster Tecs can get to the bottom of the snake caper on our own !

Hoda said...

Gatorade works for headaches because of electro lights...most atheletes take it as they exert a lot of effort. I wonder if the imbalanced electro lights cause headaches.

I'm always playing catch-up! Frank and Irene were here again...this time he came to change the oil and filter in my mower. I really think they just wanted an excuse to love Liesl!!!
Frank used a flashlight and looked inside the A/C fan.....he saw the dead snake....but only one piece....head and two coils.....apparently NOT the same snake as before...not big enough....but it was dead! And tail is GONE.....not where I had tossed it, so guess a bird already took it!

No, Lori, no pains for me today! But thanks anyway!

Lynne, is Steve still fishing????

Lynne, Bill's mom, Rose, was only 15 when she got pregnant with him.
16 when he was born. :(

I don't like Gatorade at all, Shirley! Let me know if it works!
No, Lynne, like Shirley says, not dangerous at all. Frankly, if I have to have any kind of migranine, these are preferable to the kind my Mom, sister and Christie get. They used to say they skipped generations....NOT SO!

Aha---Judie chimed in on the demise! LOL!!!

I, too, have watered around a nest in a hanging basket! All turned out well.

HODA, fun video. ♫♫ MY WAY ♪♪♫ says it best ! Just a couple of verses here......

Regrets, Ive had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!

Had some Gatorade for dinner, even thought everything seems okay. I have never cared for Gatorade, either, Lynn, but I got the fruit punch and it was all right.

Did not find any mockingbirds in the back yard trees, but when I walked back through the yard there was a bunny. I got a few pics. We have had an abundance of bunnies this spring.

AAADD
Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.
This is how it manifests:
I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide my
car needs washing. As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the porch table that I
brought up from the mail box earlier. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the trash can under the table, and notice that the
can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the trash first.
But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the trash anyway, I may as wel
pay the bills first. I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left. My extra
checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke
that I had been drinking.
I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock
it over. I see that the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need
to be watered.
I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all
morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for
the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den
where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers...
Now I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back
down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day: -the car isn't washed, -the bills aren't paid, -there is a warm can of Coke sitting
on the counter, -the flowers don't have enough water, -there is still only one check in my check book,
-I can't find the remote, -I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all
day long, and I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.

I was going to say something but then I got sidetracked by Paula getting a grill and cooking which then led me to thinking about Shirley walking through her yard which made me wonder whether or not Darth checked some kind of breaker but it may have been an ocean breaker and now I can't remember where I left the computer keyboard but I think it might be down near The Lower Gate. I'm getting confused.

Paula, enjoy. Yes, I'm sure Darth checked the circuit breaker since he's an electrical engineer and since he called a repair company, it is beyond his ability to repair. JudyE, thank you for helping me understand why I seem to be so busy but nothing gets accomplished.

Shirley, enjoy the bunnies. Our "thumper" hasn't been around for about a week and I'm never sure if it is alive and raising babies or if...

Going to put my feet up for a little while. This cold just will not find another body to inhabit. Sick of being sick.

I'm not sure if there will be an arrest in the "Abuse Case" that took place near Hedgesville on Sunday May 29, 2011. Facts a harmless snake was "torn to shreds". On the property of yet an Animal Welfare Person. There is detectives looking into the matter. They did find that the person; a woman tried to do away with the evidence. By washing out an air conditioner unit with a water hose. She thought she had it all but they found "evidence of the remaining abused creature". Will she get "jail time" or will this just be another Mary O'Brien release case????

Just got to watch Dr. Sharpe's segment....cool, cool, cool!!!! Love it! He is great!!! (I have west coast programming....ssshhhh!!! Actually, no one can get that now, but when DirecTV bought out Primestar, we were promised nothing LESS than what we already had in the way of programming, which included east and west mjor network feeds. So far, they have lived up to that pledge!!! So usually, if I miss something on the east coast, I can catch it 3 hrs. later on west). I taped it....so if you can't find it online, I can always try filming iy and posting!

hedgie said...

ROFL-----I see Hoda found it and posted link!!! TY!!!!

stronghunter said...

I got very close to the bunny and took several pictures.

If we fence the yard and turn the dogs loose out there, the bunnies may have to find another place to go. Right now, I think they hide in the thicket at the end of the yard, but sometimes I think we have had bunnies living under the front porch. They have chewed holes in the lattice panels there.

hedgie said...

Oh, JudyE....we've got a long ways to go on the race yet!

Thinking of putting in vinyl fencing. We are not allowed to use chain link in the section facing the front. We have some fencing on both sides thanks to neighbors.

They have wood. I have been thinking. I do not want to worry about maintenance. I hope the neighbors will maintain theirs. I will be happy to let them come into my yard to take care of this side, but that probably will not happen.

stronghunter said...

hedgie said...

And not giving up on Jr. Hoping he'll win this race!!!

Shirley, check out Veranda brand fencing----no upkeep required!!
That's what I have between me and the slobs.....adding 4 more panels, too. It was due in Th. or Fri. Haven't heard if it arrived at Home Depot yet.

Was watching the National Memorial Day Concert at the Capitol...had to stop half-way through....too many tears. Will finish it later. Gary Sinise, Joe Montagna, Forest Whitacre, Colin Powell......WOW!! Love them all.

JudyEddy said...

I was trying to remeber the year I meet Danicka so I had to look it up WOW 2008 sure doesn't seem like it was that long ago

stronghunter said...

Veranda. That looks good, Lynn. I will check on that. We have a Home Depot very close.

I was thinking of a picket fence. Thinking of expense. We will not need a very tall fence for basset hounds. But I do want to discourage kids from cutting through. Don't want them hopping over the fence.

We walked through one section of our neighborhood where kids have torn down fencing. I will be furious if that happens. But this area is next to low income housing that they put in after we moved here. We are not next to that section.

hedgie said...

Shirley, I have no answers to your questions......maybe a crow??? Frank also said possibly a mouse, but never knew mice to be carniverous. Maybe the snake thought the unit was a good hiding place? Guess it was until it came on!

wvgal_dana said...

Shirley Vinly fencing - I have it. If it is white "don't use weedeater around it. It throws it all up on the fencing and makes it look terrible. Finally this year I got the weed and grass killer. Use a whole large container so it would kill it for good. That work but I don't have my doggie anymore either. It will also get a greenish mildew on it so it has to be POWER WASHED!! A PAIN.. There is a fence I seen at Lowes, it is black needs no concrete..Look for the black leaves decoration on the top. Really looks nice and the poles just stick in the ground. Fence is low with the ground.

hedgie said...

Home Depot doesn't keep the stuff in stock, Shirley!! They order it...but I think that they are the only vendor.

Veranda

stronghunter said...

I bought vinyl porch railing and columns when the wooden ones rotted. I like the posts and rails, but not the stair banisters. They are flimsy and feel like plastic. I think they are not really properly installed, but also do not like to put my hand on a plastic banister.

I made the mistake of hiring a custodian from school to do the work. He did okay on some things, but not on the banister.

hedgie said...

Well, I'm in the woods with little sunlight penetrating through the spring and summer months, and my fence doesn't have any mildew on it.

stronghunter said...

Or maybe a hawk?

I have lots of sun, except in the far back. There is honeysuckle, poison ivy, and Lord knows what else back there. I will have to get someone to clear it out. I cannot mess with poison ivy.

stronghunter said...

I have white vinyl on my house. It gets some mildew or some kind of crud on the north side (maybe soot--very high up near chimney is the worst). I get it power washed from time to time.

Tried to wash it myself, but it is too hard to get to.

Haven't had a weed-whacker problem with the house.

hedgie said...

Whoops----I goofed....my fence is composite, not vinyl! Maybe that makes a difference??

hedgie said...

Very possible that it is soot, Shirley, if it's near the chimney and not anyplace else.

Judie said...

Well, I return to find that WVDana is really up-to-speed on the reptile homicide only to find out she has a weed eater that throws up on fencing. We certainly have an amazing array of adventures.

I know Lynn. Darth will check out any possibility before calling a repair company. Supposed to be maybe Tuesday.

I wanna play with Liesl!

Shirley, with Kathryn and Hunter out to a movie, I hope you're getting some relaxation time. How are George and Luna?

Speaking of which, even with the ceiling fan on high, I am really miserable. I suspect the cold virus is the real culprit.

So, going to turn the night light on early for those headed back the hallway, down to the tub, to the recliner, up the stairs, in from the beach, or stumbling in from the West Coast.

Restful sleep for all. Until tomorrow...

stronghunter said...

We had corn on the cob today, too, Jo. Enjoyed it.

My mother always said that the best way to have corn on the cob is to pick it and run in from the garden and cook it immediately. I cannot really get it quite that fresh, but she is right.

I will be getting it at the farmers' market ASAP.

stronghunter said...

I think most of them are a combination of vinyl and other materials. That is what my porch railings, etc, are. There is a metal piece inside.
