NCTC has several bald eagle experts, as does the Fish and Wildlife Service Region, which NCTC is in.
The Service has a long legacy with this bird, including the Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge, south of DC, which was the first National Wildlife Refuge established for an endangered species--the American Bald Eagle. Also the Bald Eagle Repository in Denver, that helps prevent any trade in bald eagle feathers.

I had so much fun watching him get feed this evening.
I liked the Decorah feeding video, Glo. I think it's unusual to give the chicks anything but fairly fresh fish to begin with because of the moisture content. But I guess the soft parts of rabbit will do too, and that's what the little fluff head got.
Have you guys seen the video of EJ & Odin returned to Loch Garten?? It's on the BWO site.
Not only is it closer up than usual on Ospreys, but you see Odin performing some operations on the nest bottom with his feet and talons, which I had never seen.

Leona, in this part of the country, we have lots of woods and the Robins often will stay, or some of them anyway, if the winter isn't too harsh as they can eat berries from the trees. So sometimes they are around but we don't see them because they are in the woods, and then on a nicer day they may come out. In the spring though, we get HUGE flocks returning as the ground thaws and the earthworms start moving!
I love watching the Robins. My bird feeder is right by my bedroom window.

Texas is having a huge education debate concerning funding. Our sweet governor (gag!) is cutting funding BIG time. Districts are having to cut back good programs and laying off teachers. It is terrible! They are even offering retirement incentives. It is such a big MESS!!! Glad I am retired.
Shirley, it is kind of you to try to answer their questions. I know of no one going to the campus this weekend. I really do think they have been looking around...those that work there.

We have retirement incentives here, too. It is one of the things I want to look into, Lolly.
And teachers have been laid off in our school. If we had not had two English teachers from our school resign, last year we would have had one laid off.
I turned 69 in December. I wasn't so sure about being ready until this year. Part of the difference is the fact that Kathryn and Hunter are living with me. I am busier at home now. There are lots of things I would have taken care of if I'd had the time.
Hunter has to get up so early in the morning because Kathryn works and has to take him to the sitter. I've taken him a few times, but the sitter's house is in the opposite direction from my work, and it adds about 30 minutes to my commute, which is already about 45 minutes.
One of Kathryn's biggest problems is getting Hunter up and out the door every morning.
It would be nice to get up and just watch him get on the bus in front of the house. He would have to change schools, but it is in the same county.
Yes, I hope Margy has a quiet evening as well.
Kathryn has to get Hunter up at about 6:00 in the morning, but his school does not start until 9:00. I don't know what time the bus comes, but it is not as early as he is leaving now by a long shot.
As for me, I was used to coming home and relaxing. Now I am feeding dogs and cooking dinner.
In the past, I have cooked only if I wanted too, and then usually just for myself. Sometimes I had a bowl of cereal or something quick and easy. Maybe not quite as nutritious, but I did pretty well.
And, of course, I would have more time to watch eagles.
Will mentioned that I could substitute if I retired. I don't think so. Not interested in that.
Our system does have a program in which retired teachers come in and help with testing and some things like that. That is fine.
I might teach some college classes as an adjunct. I have done that before, and I enjoyed it.
Yes, I think the NCTC people have been looking around, too. I appreciate it, and I am sure many others appreciate it as well.

SWITCHED PLACES. BELLE NOW SITTING AT 9 ON SIDE OF NEST CUP AND LIB FACING 3... BELLE HOPS OVER TO A BETTER SPOT TO FLY OFF. LETS SEE IF SHE DID.
jUST ONE EAGLE IN NEST NOW... BUT BELLE IS STILL THERE IS SAME POSITION...AND LOOKS LIKE TRUDER IS GONE. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY DID YESTERDAY. I THINK BELLE TRICKS HIM AND HE ENDS UP POOFING!

DID NOT SEE ENTRY BUT IN POSITION TO HAVE COME IN OVER 7. BOTH HAVE THEIR HEADS DOWN AS IF EATING OR WORKING ON CUP.
DID ANYONE SEE TRUDER FLY IN WITH FOOD?
BELLE IS GONE FLYING OUT OVER TO RIGHT AT 3 OCLOCK.
TRUDER LEAVES LESS THAN 30 SEC. AFTER BELLE. HE ALSO TAKE OFF OVEV THE 2ISH - 3 MARK.
I hope Wanda is around if T comes back with another FISH STICK!!!
