Thanks Andrea. The concert is a general admission venue, not sure there are any seats at all. I know I will be standing as close to the stage as I can get! :)
I got up in time to see one eagle remaining in the nest...then he or she poofed and so did I. See that a bunch of you are up and running...
Woke up without a stiff back...I am wondering if maybe I just had an opportunity to stay in bed longer at my sister's and my body was not prepared for that ☺
Judie - whenever you jump on....you asked about where in Annandale...actually, more on the outskirts and closer to Springfield. Blue Ridge Avenue off Braddock Rd, about one mile off Exit 54 - Brook Hills Estates, is where my sister lives.

I need to get myself and hubby ready for a portrait setting for the church directory. I so hate to have my picture taken! At least the kind where you need to pose. I'll just think about all of you and a beautiful smile will come across my face.... That will do it!
J0 I did that last year....had the opportunity to hold a stuffed animal (some people bring their REAL pets) - so I chose a Moose....it was that or a lamb...
Will have to show you that some day. AND, I did not wear Bib Overalls !
I know you will look beautiful, as will Ed look oh so handsome !
Sharon - I hear lots of trains going through the crossing here, often...guess what it reminds me of! ☺
Going next door to visit neighbor lady, she went to a Bobby Vinton concert over the week-end and wants to tell me all about it... Well, see you all later.
I didn't break the camera - Nice photographer Sara took pics until she had a good one!
Off to Stride Rite Shoe Store to pick up pair of shoes for Elizabeth. Her aunt is going to take them with her as she is going over this Friday to visit and sight see in Berlin.
Oh Deb! Keep it up there in the Dakotas. Not sure what our winter will bring to us in this area. Bitter cold I think! Sorry about the mandatory work detail. I used to hate telling my group that! Only thing that will help is the extra on the paycheck.
Hi, Everyone, Jumping back in for a bit to say howdy. Sharon, THANK YOU for the Train video link--it's way up there on my list of favorites! Margy, TOLD you there's no place like home! Could be you were sleeping in too late while visiting, though, too. Say, has anyone heard from Dana lately? Hope her eye is doing better.
Hey Judie - The trip to WV by train is lovely....geting back can be a challenge though. The Westbound train originates in DC, but the Eastbound train originates in Chicago....and can be very very delayed...but there are early morning return commuter trains on the week-days. ☺
I got the decks done and about 1/2 of the driveway (blowing), and picked up LOTS of sticks. That's it for the day. Not looking very nice weather-wise again.

Megan, I have the DVR programmed ready to go to watch NASA in the morning.
Just got email that Diann picked up her e-card, so she's apparently home and able to be on computer at least for a bit of time! Hi, Diann!! Hope recuperation is going well!
I think that eagle is super-glued to the platform, he was there when I went to the store, and he is still there....and no one seems to want that bony thing in the nest
Well dang, I guess no evening visit. Trying to fill out a form for kid for AP test fee waiver...I'm never quaified for assistance, yet I have so little money- just can't ever get the system to work for me.... darn tests will cost $43 each.
I did pick up the pair of shoes for 'Izzy' that Christine had called to HOLD at our local children's store after viewing on line and sizing her up. Don't need to ship them because her aunt is leaving tomorrow morning to visit with her and will put them in her suitcase.
This year she will take two- she is in two AP classes. These are advanced classes and if she passes the tests she can get college credits which many colleges will honor. Apparently with our income last year we are just a couple grand above the census poverty level. Boy, that's depressing.
It is depressing to even think that you cannot get some kind of Financial aid. I hope you all get a good deal when it comes to College prices. Scholarships hopefully will be out there for her.
Yeah, she takes the preliminary SAT/national merit scholarship test next week, if she does well on it, there could be lots of scholarship opportunities. She has already taken the PSAT/NMSQT twice, and last year she was in the top 5% of all sophomores in our county's schools, so she should do just fine next week.
Megan I am sure YOU are in the top 5% of Mothers successfully fussing with the paperwork - Best wishes with it all...my parents had to prepare 8 of us for those tests....
Good luck to the little one, make sure she gets PLENTY of rest the night before... xo
It's 90 miles door to door for me from here to there, usually a pretty painless trip, there are several different routes I can take. Beltway used to freak me out but after many years of driving it, I have found that drivers are much less aggressive than before, and I am much more relaxed about it.
all righty now, Margy....which part of the beltway do you drive that dows not have they aggresive drivers....I think it is you that has calmed down and accepted it...because those maniacs are out there:)
You know you are tired when you have to stop on the way home from work and get a snack to keep from falling asleep behind the wheel.
Didn't crash on the road, but crashed on the sofa when I got home and didn't notice the phone was blinking to tell me there was a message.
When I became conscious, I pressed the button to learn that the furniture store wants to arrange a delivery date!!!!
Yeah!!!! Too late to call tonight, but will do that tomorrow.
Update on the two students whose fingers I wanted to break: One came to see me to discuss his paper. It was really quite good, but he was afraid it wasn't what I wanted. I told him it was a good paper and I wanted him to have more confidence in his abilities. He admitted he didn't feel very confident. That is the kind of hand-holding I do not mind providing! Maybe I won't break his fingers after all. Very nice kid! I have a feeling his parents had something to do with that conference request. I did leave them a message.
The other one, however, refused to take notes today, smugly saying he does not need to take notes. Won't break his fingers, but I do see an open-notes quiz and a parent call in his near future. He is very smart, but . . . .
Teaching high school is such fun. Sometimes I have so much fun I wear myself plumb out and almost fall asleep on the way home.
Watching Pix Pa cam. Has the food throw happened yet? Doesn't quite look like it. It is raining.
My brother in Colorado e-mailed me that they had a forecast of snow with lows in the teens and highs in the 30s for today. I still have flowers in pots on my porch.
They look like little piggies. And by the way, I greatly admire what you do, teachers are so important:) We have been very lucky to have some wonderful teachers in daughter's school years.
Yeah, and we'll find the money, just frustrated that we can't get a waiver, we just missed the cut off $ amount. Looking at the SAT site now, cause she has been advised to go ahead and take it this year too.
Sure glad I HAVEN'T seen my bear this year!! It sure gets the adrenaline pumping!! Plus don't want him damaging things.
Margy, there were computers back then: room-size monstrosities that sure weren't for personal use!!!
Don't think anyone LIKES the beltway, but I find the easiest way to cope with it is to stay in a center lane. Of course, the most aggravating part is people in front of me on a ramp who don't know how to merge.
I felt really good after I had talked to that young man. He is a very quiet one. I gave him a hard time the other day, but he responded appropriately.
I had another student who brought me her college entrance essay for review. That is a nice compliment. I was hard on her last year, too. She got a terrible grade, but her essay looks really good.
Megan - If the kid wants to go to college, find out about local scholarships, from Lions club, VFW, etc. Guidance counselor can help in that area. Also, try to see if Washington County has something like Frederick County does.
Rain delay at Pix I guess. Watching raindrops fall is like watching grass grow at our nest... have to turn that site off, totally freezes up things after a few mins.
About the Beltway, I do tend to travel during non-rush hour peak times, if there is such a thing.
Good for you Paula on the mowing... won't be too much more mowing this season I guess.
Shirley - your teacher tales are inspiring...glad like Megan says that there are teachers like you out there. xo
That's a cool site, Paula. There are definitely lots of scholarships available locally. I have a couple of sites to do research on. And the letter they sent home about the PSAT says that students that score highly on the test have an excellent opportunity to earn scholarships or recognition from the nat'l merit scholarship corp.in their junior year.
Megan, I have been trying to sell the PSAT to my advisory students. I believe it's given on the 17th. They asked for teachers to help proctor that day. Of course, I have something else to do!
I don't think I am eligible to be a proctor anyway because I do the test prep class and the College Board does not want you to do the prep and then proctor the test. Conflict of interest.
Margy, I'm a diehard....I still go 9 to 7 and then take the beltway to A'dale or go the back way on Gallows Rd. from Tysons' Corner! Judie, suggest that when you come, you take that route (in reverse coming up, of course). I can give you further to S'town if you need it.
Before we get a frost, Paula. It wouldn't survive freezing temps. AT kid's school, honor juniors must take PSAT/NMSQT-it's not optional. She has taken it as a freshan and soph., which was good practice, now the score will count. Darn, too lazy to walk down and change the tv channel. Would've liked to see Bill Nye.
Our school gave the PSAT at no charge to all of the 10th graders last year, but not this year. I suppose it's a budget issue. The test is not really that expensive.
OH, well let me make you hungry too- #1 Jimmy...Jumbo Lump Crab Meat in a rich sauce, served with toast points...it's the least I can do. I found that pumpkin pic online- wish I was that clever.
Lynn I keep wanting to take that route...might try that next time. Used to go that way all the time back in the 50's and 60's with the parents, up and down the winding roads on the other side of the Shenandoah - great carsick travel that was....way before any beltways even existed. Guess we ended up on Chain Bridge Road at Tysons Corner, which I also remember, was just a little whistle stop back in the day.
I know this is the Go-To place for prayers. I have learned that my sister in Massachusetts is in the hospital with a ruptured appendix, and it will be a little while before surgery can be done, doctors have to do some work internally first....she sounds good, strong, and cheerful, but I am scared about it. Please, and Thank You. This is the sister James and I visited in July. And so far away from all of us.
OMG- is that a Train song??? you are relentless...I am outa here, long day, kiddies wore me out-nite all. Margy, I'll keep your sister in my thoughts. ((HUGS))
To keep my mind off things, I checked that menu, think two appetizers will be my meal: #1 Jimmy and the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail. Brain Food, I could use it !
Poor sister, has not been able to eat for five days. Don't think I should be talking about food. :( She can't even have ice chips. Doctors better get in there and get 'er done Friday....or I might find a way to Massachusettes, even if I have to hitchhike. Work, Shmork if it happens.
Margy, so sorry to hear about your sister. Prayers definitely going up. Can't understand the delay---makes no sense at all..... BTW....I-495 (Beltway) opened first section in '57---same year we moved from DC into VA.

Boy, Helen,
You got that right! Time seems to go so fast lately! Remember when you were a kid, and a summer seemed like a lifetime?!
I'm not sure I can remember that far back:)
Know what you mean. Have to think pretty hard to remember what was for dinner last night, let alone that far back.
Thanks Andrea. The concert is a general admission venue, not sure there are any seats at all. I know I will be standing as close to the stage as I can get! :)

Trains - music to Sharon's ears!
Snow for me on Sat, Sun and Mon. Nothing that will amount to much, just light snow predicted. There is still lots of time to change that forecast.
I didn't break the camera - Nice photographer Sara took pics until she had a good one!
Off to Stride Rite Shoe Store to pick up pair of shoes for Elizabeth. Her aunt is going to take them with her as she is going over this Friday to visit and sight see in Berlin.

Jumping back in for a bit to say howdy. Sharon, THANK YOU for the Train video link--it's way up there on my list of favorites!
Margy, TOLD you there's no place like home! Could be you were sleeping in too late while visiting, though, too.
Say, has anyone heard from Dana lately? Hope her eye is doing better.
Toot Toot -- here comes the choo choo and I'm on it and we're headed for a visit to blogtown.
Well, not such a bad day today as far as the wannabe adults are concerned.
Lolly, hope today was better weather for the balloons but very sorry Lauren is not fully recovered. Prayers for her and all the family.
Andy, one test does not a career make. Bet the teacher throws that one out if so many had difficult.
Margie, glad you had a nice visit with family. Must have been great.
Wanda, nice to know Gene (or is it Jack) is feeling so much better. Let's hope he keeps improving.
Missed seeing any critters today. Will check out the cams later when I might see some activity. Did see an eagle at BWO -- probably gone now.
Anyone heard from Dana? I worry when she gets quiet.
Hi Jo. Hope the shoe shopping was successful.
I need a vacation in W.Va. Anyone got any suggestions? Should I take a train?
Later,
Judie
Sitting out on my deck resting and I just saw two hummers:)
LOL, Judie----you'd get here faster driving than taking the train!!
Haven't heard a peep out of Dana this week. Worrisome---silver alert time!
Jo, was there a special shoe there that Elizabeth wants? Don't you wish YOU were making that trip to Germany??

I got the decks done and about 1/2 of the driveway (blowing), and picked up LOTS of sticks. That's it for the day. Not looking very nice weather-wise again.
OH man, everytime you say train I get this old Blackfoot song stuck in my head...train, train, take me on out of this town....argh...
Megan
did I read, "resting..." - dear me, I didn't think that word was in your vocabulary! I mean that in a nice way....
Those hummers were there for YOU ☺
Deb, your forecast sounds messy! Hope they are wrong and that you don't get any snow!
I always liked the song by the Kingston Trio, M.T.A....Charlie could never get off that train ♫ ♪

It would be kind of cool to have one visit, as long as it moseyed right on down the road.
I had one run across my back yard one year. He was fast and he was small.
I just prayed he would keep on going and he did.
yeah it would be.
aww he is resting now

when it comes to College prices.
Scholarships hopefully will be out there for her.
Anne Marie is on her way home.
Lolly should be where the balloons are!
I hope Jacob sees the one lit up that looks like the Alien.
Sounds great Megan. Good Future ahead for her
Off to the TV
BBL
Yeah, if her Mom can wade her way thru the paperwork.
Megan
I am sure YOU are in the top 5% of Mothers successfully fussing with the paperwork - Best wishes with it all...my parents had to prepare 8 of us for those tests....
Good luck to the little one, make sure she gets PLENTY of rest the night before... xo
Back after my TRAIN ride to the kitchen to prepare dinner.
Margie, I know about where it is. Only minutes away from me. Next time, leave time for a visit for coffee and a panda hug.
Ah, Jo this is First 48. Your fault I'm hooked. Glad you got the shoes.
Meagan, it really is incomprehensible the cost of college applications and then college tuition plus all the other expenses.
Off to watch First 48.
Judie
Of course things were different back in the "dark ages" so many years ago....don't even think computers had been invented yet ! ☺
I made it out, late, saw a chocolate brown deer, that I think might have been a buck but he was pretty far away for me to tell for sure.
Okay Judie - It's a deal! I will get your phone number and things at the dinner before Open House night....if we both make it there!
☺
It's 90 miles door to door for me from here to there, usually a pretty painless trip, there are several different routes I can take.
Beltway used to freak me out but after many years of driving it, I have found that drivers are much less aggressive than before, and I am much more relaxed about it.
all righty now, Margy....which part of the beltway do you drive that dows not have they aggresive drivers....I think it is you that has calmed down and accepted it...because those maniacs are out there:)
81 to 70 to 270 to 495 - -
not sure, you might be right about demeanor, Mits..
Waiting on the Food Toss at Pix Pa, raccoons are there ready to be skeedaddled away when the marbles start rolling ☺
Evening, all!
Finally done mowing for the week...had to finish in the dark, just like last night!
Watching Flash Forward...
Hi!
I never saw the feed throw happen on PIX PA tonite.
My, those are fat raccoons. Maybe they need to fatten up for the winter.
I was a little late getting on the site, but I still have not seen a food throw.
Megan - I think Michael's AP tests were about that much also...
Thanks Megan, I do appreciate the kind words.

Prairie Dog Brother John left Walden Colorado (not far South of the Wyoming border) with three inches of snow behind him.
He's halfway through Kansas now on his way back to Frostburg, making a few stops along the way.
Bill Nye on CNN re the moon bombing.
Here is something off the wall:
A 6-pound baby growing at the same rate as the average caterpillar would weigh about 8 tons in two weeks.
...off the WV DNR Calendar page for this month.
Too much snow talk, LOL
That's "bombing." Not really a bomb.
Megan - when should I bring my fuschia inside?
Margy, I'm a diehard....I still go 9 to 7 and then take the beltway to A'dale or go the back way on Gallows Rd. from Tysons' Corner! Judie, suggest that when you come, you take that route (in reverse coming up, of course). I can give you further to S'town if you need it.

Thanks, Megan
Our school gave the PSAT at no charge to all of the 10th graders last year, but not this year. I suppose it's a budget issue. The test is not really that expensive.
Apparently they are not charging for the PSAT here.
That's good, Megan. I wish they had not stopped it at my school.
Darn, Lynn sent around an email with the Clarion menu and now I'm craving a #1 jimmy.
Ad........
Sprinkling here now....bet it won't amount to anything. Argh!
Megan, if she takes SAT this year, will she have to take it again next year?
Yes, but I guess it's good practice to take it as many times as possible.
Megan, I really like that pumpkin in your avatar.
The PSAT is the preliminary test. The SAT is the one required for admission to many colleges. They are not the same thing.
YeH, she has taken PSAT twice and will next week, but was also given a paper about taken SAT as a junior.
Lots of times, the juniors take the SAT in the spring. That is when we get the juniors for the prep class.
Michael took SAT twice...I think they didn't charge for taking it as a junior...
I can't get into my email to see that #1 jimmy....
OH, well let me make you hungry too- #1 Jimmy...Jumbo Lump Crab Meat in a rich sauce, served with toast points...it's the least I can do.
I found that pumpkin pic online- wish I was that clever.
Yum...thanks Megan :)
Falling asleep at my computer. Time to go to bed!
Good night.
Good Night Shirley, I think you SAT'd and PSAT'd yourself to sleep ☺
Deb - what are the Twins doing tonight? I have no Sports channels so have no idea what's up.
I remember they had that #1 Jimmy last year and I regretted not getting it...maybe this year...
Anything uncomplicated bill-wise gets high marks in my book!
Twins don't play today, Margy.
Lynn I keep wanting to take that route...might try that next time. Used to go that way all the time back in the 50's and 60's with the parents, up and down the winding roads on the other side of the Shenandoah - great carsick travel that was....way before any beltways even existed. Guess we ended up on Chain Bridge Road at Tysons Corner, which I also remember, was just a little whistle stop back in the day.
okay, thanks Mits....thought they had already started the series with New York, great sports afficianado, I...
Well, I was really hoping for Eggplant and caviar! :)
She can't even have ice chips.
Doctors better get in there and get 'er done Friday....or I might find a way to Massachusettes, even if I have to hitchhike.
Work, Shmork if it happens.
Good Night Megan and thanks.
My Sunflowers are out in a jar on the porch for the birdies now.
Okay, Megan, I won't do it anymore if you won't leave! :)
2 shows down and 1 to go......
BBILW
Margy, so sorry to hear about your sister. Prayers definitely going up. Can't understand the delay---makes no sense at all.....
BTW....I-495 (Beltway) opened first section in '57---same year we moved from DC into VA.
prayers for your sister, Margy......Twins played last night, lost to NY......good night
split coming
Good Night and thanks Mits....and thanks Hedgie...
Mits, as I said I will root for the Twins, but I love to watch Pettitte and Rivera pitch ☺
