GOOD MORNING STEVE!---THANKS for the SUNNY THREAD!!---ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY!!----

Costume Lady said...

Good morning, Norma...# 1 LADY OF THE DAY! I brought this over from last thread:
Hidey is sitting on Lib's launch pad. Can't see his head, but know he is looking for a place to land when he fledges. It was so much more fun last year, watching three eaglets interacting with each other. There was Pecky Pearl, who got first dibs on every meal. Then there was Middy who would sneak in and grab a bite when she could get away with it! And then last, but certainly not least...Tiny. He got the left-overs. Remember how he entertained us at our Nest Visit? We thought he surely was going to fledge while we were there. He had lift-off so many times, and each time we thought "this is it". But he didn't fledge for several days after our visit:) Next Saturday, at 10am, we will have the opportunity to experience this again. Hoooray!
Hope to see as many of you as possible there!

Dustin will be getting up soon, so I need to be thinking about a pre-breakfast for him. He always has two breakfasts when he visits. Capt. Eagle is up and coffee is done. BBL

Costume Lady said...

Norma, I haven't heard anyone else say they were missing their avatars, so I know it is something I have done. Just need to look into it and see what I might need to do to get them back.

normabyrd said...

LARRY states the LOONS changed nests today at 5:00 am---The lake is a wee bit choppy---& that the LOON'S bones are almost solid--thus it is harder for them to fly fast--other birds have hollow bones!---

normabyrd said...

WANDA--Your blog is showing your AVATAR---

normabyrd said...

MEGAN--HEDGIE!!---The 'LITTLE REBELS' are back!!---OH HAPPY DAY!!---But the site is a WEE BIT LIGHT---But one can still see them!---When that crew begins to fly---Will be lots of 'wing flapping' -- in that nest!!

Sad news here at the cabin this am....barn swallow nest that was up on an eave joist fell...one dead baby on the ground...mama just hanging around making noise. Don't see any other babies...boo.

Morning, all.

Thanks for the new thread Steve.

We have a flapping peeping eaglet this morning!!

paula eagleholic said...

There is already a fish in the nest! Parent just arrived and is eating the fish!

paula eagleholic said...

Guess Hidey is in the "feed me" mode today!

paula eagleholic said...

Love love love hearing that "crunch"

hedgie said...

Norma, my house! Did you see pictures on my blog?
After the heartbreak of Barbaro, I try not to get too excited about the races. Couldn't take that heartbreak again. a FILLY win would be cool...but if I waas betting i'd put my money on ine that Bird in hopes of a Triple Crown!
Feel so sorry for the mama bird....all her efforts for naught.

paula eagleholic said...

Sound is great today!

paula eagleholic said...

Morning Norma and Lynn!!

paula eagleholic said...

Sorry about your swallows, Lynn.

The white on Hidey's tail is down feathers...

Just had a tussle over a big piece! Hidey won!

normabyrd said...

MORNIN' PAULA!----I love the little MIRACLE!!---She is so full of herself!!!---She was really flapping this am when I came on!!
'GOD love it's little heart'---

paula eagleholic said...

Ever notice how Hidey chirps but his beak isn't open??

paula eagleholic said...

Lib is having some of the fish too.

paula eagleholic said...

Fish is gone...Lib looking to leaving...Hidey asking "where's the rest!"

Lib took off from the launch pad.

paula eagleholic said...

Middy had a lot of those white down feathers on her tail too, that's how I was able to ID her last year...

paula eagleholic said...

Hidey trying to do nestorations....

OK gonna take a rest in the bowl now.

normabyrd said...

normabyrd said...

PAULA---when do you think MIRACLE will take off??----She is lifting off & flapping loudly----

normabyrd said...

Our dark clouds are now blue skies & awesome white clouds----showers this afternoon or evening!!---You all must have a lot of wind at the nest???---we have no wind---(yet)?

normabyrd said...

WHOA! HEDGIE----I didn't see your infamous 'mail box'----ho!

Hidey hasn't even hovered yet in the nest...I am guessing 2 weeks or so, Norma....

Hidey is 9 weeks old today!

paula eagleholic said...

Heading out for now...gonna go get some stuff to plant before the rain tonight!

BWE Update

05/16/09:
We now hear from a visitor and a volunteer that it looks like Choptank has also fledged.

Yesterday we saw the two eaglets helping themselves to a fish that was dropped off by a parent, then the adult showed up for the meal.

hedgie said...

Norma, no, not redwood...pine...dummy's who built it used a dark stain...no way to undo it....I use clear treatment. Thanks....,I love it. Small ="cozy" as my youngest called it when I bought it after divorce---went from 3500 sq. ft. to 990!!! Bigger now w/ sunroom!!!

Ricky376 said...

From yesterday:
Cardinals are few and far between here on Long Island. I think there was a problem with pesticides years back. I'm getting ready to put out my humming bird feeder soon. I didn't even know we had them till two years ago when my wife planted some flowers they like to feed on.

normabyrd said...

I HAVE TO BUY A NEW COMPUTER!!---no email---Now I am freezing every few min--How hard to transfer one's favorites to a new computer?
WOW!!---I just checked---poor MIRACLE is about to be blown away!-----Very calm winds here now!!

hedgie said...

Norma, confused...what mailbox???

normabyrd said...

MORNIN' RICKY376---I bet you have several beautiful birds---they we don't have---We just happen to have CARDINALS!---

hedgie said...

Ricky, I think hummers end up anywhere there are flowers!!!! Scads here...and cards, too. Of course, they are the VA and WV state bird! I think some other states, too.
Norma, a pro can transfer your stuff with ease!!

Ricky376 said...

Well they are my favorite. Looks like hidey is ready to go. I hope Im watching when it happens.

normabyrd said...

HEDGIE---My husband built our house--We both liked wood--Built in late 60s---so I need to marry a carpenter---or a computer 'geek'--ho!---what a choice???----
(shall i toss a coin)?---ho!

normabyrd said...

HEDGIE---Aren't you always saying--you have to go to the mail box to get your morning paper??

Ricky376 said...

Norma: If you get a new PC. Get someone to take out your old hard drive and plug it in to one of your cd drive cables. You can take the files right off the drive.

Ricky376 said...

I build my own computers. Never buy another one.

hedgie said...

Oh, Norma....gotcha....no, mailbox and paper tubes are out at the end of the driveway!! About 300 ft. out from the house! Could you make out the ROMNEY traffic light on the corner of the house?????

hedgie said...

No wind here....sun is trying to come out....of course, nest is about 25 miles from me, so could be a breeze off the river.

normabyrd said...

WHOA! RICKY!---Thanks for the info!---I googled (long isl ny pesticides)---YEP--it seems you all have had problems--in re: birds & pesticides!!----
Wish I could send you a few dozen CARDINALS---then you could build me a computer!---ho!---(kiddin')!!
You will love watching the hummers!!---

normabyrd said...

HEDGIE!---do you have the traffic light?----WHOA!---I thought ROBIN told me---she had it!!---that's so FUNNY!----Where did you get it? I MUST LOOK AGAIN!!

Mits said...

good morning everyone...have a good Saturday

hedgie said...

Norma, I think you got my email address of "robinwd" mixed up with Robyn Schonhans!! A friend got it at an auction up there---it was supposedly the first traffic light in Romney--a 3 way intersection--still has all but one of the original lenses. My Bill rewired it and it works beautifully.
Friend got transferred out west and her hubby wouldn't let her take it, so I bought it from her.

normabyrd said...

HEDGIE!!---I have attempted to print out a copy of YOUR stop light!----AND--now my paper is stuck & I can't print-----Your FAULT!---ho! THAT IS SO COOL!!---Do you remember when your friend bought it?!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO EMMITT SMITH!!

OUR COWBOY IS 40!-----ho!---He has always been a favorite of mine!!!

Lolly said...

Larry has a very interesting article on the loons today. It is about their bones, their ability to dive and the difficulty in flying. Learned something today!

normabyrd said...

LOLLY---No one even acknowledged it----ho!---I knew you folks would understand!!----I read about your TEA PARTY!---What wonderful memories you all will have!---Hope you got a pic to show his WIFE in a few years!! ho!

Lolly said...

Morning Norma! Emmitt has alway6s been a favorite of our as well. DIL went to high school with him in Florida. Her cat was named Emmitt! LOL

normabyrd said...

LOLLY---I read LARRY'S update every morning---He writes well!--One can tell he loves the LOONS!
A favorite of mine too---even if I have never seen one!!!

Lolly said...

I need to post pictures of Jacob and me from yesterday. He is so precious. Oh, he causes Laurel lots of grief (He is sooo stubborn). I just keep telling her how cute he is!

Mits said...

we had a very nice visit yesterday, Lynn....MM is doing ok. Told her to take it easy, it was major surgery.

normabyrd said...

LOLLY---Tell your DIL that I am jealous!-----ho!---By the way our temp is 81° & SUN is shining brightly!!----

Lolly said...

Mits, I am concerned. You said MM was ok. Would like to hear she is doing well! Glad you got to be with her. I only have one sister, love her dearly. Sorry for folks without brothers and sisters!

movin said...

It's a cloudy 63° with 75% humidity right now, but it's due to get up into the 80's today.

We'll see... it was supposed to make 77° yesterday, but it barely broke 70°.

But I'm happy this morn ... or I'm still dreaming.

How are you all??

MORNIN' MOVIN'JIM!!---Whose your favorite???----Did you know the winning JOCKEY at the DERBY is riding 'RACHEL ALEXANDRA' today---

Lolly said...

Well, the stubborn bit he got from his Grandaddy and his mother. ha! But, his cute looks came from me. LOL

Lolly said...

Wonder why the jockey switched? You would think the same jockey would ride.

Lolly said...

Whoa!! Hidey, you are about to take off with wing flaps like that!

Lolly said...

Getting late...better eat some breakfast.

Ms Bookworm said...

OMG!!! Hidey is just about putting me into cardiac arrest with those 'wingercises'!!! Hang on, Hidey!!!!! Hi, everyone-- have been going back and forth between housework and the eaglecam this morning. SoCal weather report: Mostly cloudy at the moment, but sun may burn thru later. Expected high is about 82. The dust on the entertainment center is calling me-- BBIALW! Happy Saturday! :o]

normabyrd said...

LOLLY---I didn't need to ask?--ho!

hedgie said...

Lolly, the jockey had been previously committed to ride this horse today.

normabyrd said...

MS BOOKWORM-----PAULA thinks our 'EAGLET' will fledge in about 2weeks--SHE/HE is 9 wks old today!!

normabyrd said...

PAULA also heard that at the BWE site---'CHOP' has now fledged!---CHESS fledged earlier!

Mits said...

Lolly we are concerned about yhe swelling in her arms and feet, don't know if it is from meds are what, she is only taking one pain pill every 6 hours or more, but she has good coloring, still not happy about the drain, surgeon was not really up front about that.

movin said...

Yes, Norma, I knew that. Right after the Derby, Calvin thought the owner of R. Alexandra would not run her in the Preakness, but he had committed to riding her if she was entered. So that's what happened..she was sold right after Derby day and the new owners entered her in the Preakness.

It could be a negative factor in Mine That Bird's race ... having a different rider. And he's still not too well known, although he won the big one a couple of weeks ago.

I'm leaning toward Rachel, but there are plenty of good horses in the field, including "Mine....", so I wouldn't be surprised at about anything in this race.

I bet it's going to be exciting for sure, but I can't pick an obvious winner.

Wouldn't it be ironic if after waiting more than 30 years for a Triple Crown Winner, a gelding won it (it's never happened before).

Had never seen rabbits here before until a couple of months ago when I started seeing an adult. Just found a baby munching on some wild violet leaves and got some pics. Will see how good they are when I put them on PC...will post to my blog if turn out good. Took some of raccoons a couple of nights ago, and they looked half-way decent on camera, but on puter they were black!

normabyrd said...

WHOA!!---JIM---Wouldn't that be WONDERFUL to have a TRIPLE CROWN---'MIND THAT BIRD' is 6-1 &'RACHEL A' is 8-5 in my paper!!---I AM BETTING ON THE FILLY---

normabyrd said...

HEDGIE---I still have my 'HOUSE RABBIT'--she is around all the time--Baby Bunnies have a hard time--people let cats loose & I swear they come almost a mile to get here!---

Lolly said...

Mits, we most definitly will keep MM in our prayers. I felt that not all was right.

hedgie said...

Another reason I don't like cats!! Did you get the printer unjammed, Norma?

normabyrd said...

I haven't seen the raccoons this year yet---the small ones are ADORABLE!---must be careful with them--(rabies)--

Mits said...

I don't like the cat owners who let them run wild to kill my birds....worse than hawks

Lolly said...

Is Hidey sitting out on a branch?

Mits said...

Hidey at noon position

Lolly said...

Ohhhh, I am a cat person! I love my kitty!

Lolly said...

Hidey is just so high up that I thought he was out of the nest.

normabyrd said...

HEDGIE---no problem with the stuck paper!---ho!---Your trees look wonderful when I printed your house today!!

MOMA BEAR is sleeping on the straw that she was throwing on her head last night on TV!!!

Mema Jo said...

Hopefully on Monday a call to the surgeon will bring some info about the swelling. Fluid retention I would suppose but I really don't know - Just want her to be comfortable and on the road to recovery! Prayers for Mary Margaret's recovery being offered!

Mema Jo said...

Not sure what Mei is going to do today! We never know about her! Maybe just panda napping all day with a little bamboo in between the naps!

normabyrd said...

WOW!---SEND IN THE BAND!!!----There is an EAGLET at the OREGON NEST SITE!!----MOM is feeding the little one!!!----I never thought we would get to see that!!---film is grainy---but it is a beautiful picture!!!!

I have kept MM in my thoughts & prayers----Did you ask HEDGIE---she is a nurse!

paula eagleholic said...

OMG Oregon has a chick...what wonderful news....thanks, Norma!

normabyrd said...

JO---We still have sunshine & temp is up to 85° now!!!---Have you picked a horse??---

paula eagleholic said...

Hidey is perched at the noon position at the big trunk...enjoying the breeze

hedgie said...

Mits, sometimes the fluid retention can be from inactivity. Has she ever been treated for congestive heart failure? If so, is she on fluid pills, and if so is she taking them as she was before surgery? Any shortness of breath? If so, need to call the doctor.

paula eagleholic said...

Headed outside...will check back on a break...

normabyrd said...

been on since am---need food--

normabyrd said...

LOLLY---you can come clean my house!---NOT!

hedgie said...

Breezy here now....trying to blow the stringy things off deck...but at least the rain damped down the pollen that they shed!! Almost choked to death on it Sunday when I was last able to do it!

hedgie said...

Oh-oh, just heard thunder.
Just buried the baby bird....big, but still just downy...and BIG feet and long legs...poor little thing. No sign of mama now...guess she realized it was hopeless. Imagine that with the mud of the nest all dried out and the weight of it, her and the baby on a sloped surface there just wasn't any guarantee that it would stay in place long enough for a fledge.

hedgie said...

I don't believe this....both swallow parents are back and it looks like they are pondering rebuilding in the same stupid place!

Does anybody like V8??? I love it...one of the best diet "foods" there is...cheers---drinking a glass now for lunch!

Mother-Daughter banquet at Church this evening, so will be heading out around 4. Gotta start getting ready---heading for tub. BBL!

Mits,Ceil, hope MM gets better--sounds like edema. She may need diuretic for that. ☺ ♥ ☺

hedgie said...

Good storm here...didn't get bath---very leery of getting in cast iron tub during storm! Got hair done quickly in case power went out!! So far, so good.
Loretta, have never been to Andrews for their air show....maybe someday! But have been to the ones here at Shepherd Field/Air National Guard, and to numerous fly-ins at Hagerstown and once even to OshKosh, WI for experimental aircraft owners assoc. I am a big aero enthusiast!

Mema Jo said...

Popping in to check on Mei and Hidey.
I thought Mei was getting up & about but she flopped right back down!

I don't know if Hidey is doing nestorations or looking for leftovers.
Seems to be fascinated with the leaves but isn't sure if they are food or not!

Mema Jo said...

I think she has found some food.
I have been zooming in on her beak.

GA-GIRL said...

Just a quick glance to see how Hidey is doing. I've been working on our pond again adding some more flowers. I think she is looking all over the place for leftovers! I haven't been on so much today so I don't know if there were any food drops.

Keep us posted on MM progress.
I guess I am going to get ready for Mass in a little while. I'll be praying for
you gals!

Germany Gal just called - I am getting anxious for mid June to arrive to see them. Elizabeth turns 1 yr old June 5 and I have NOT held her yet! Christine says she keeps saying 'What's That' and also that she gave up her bottle and is an official "Zippy Cup Gal"! That will make is easier flying from Germany and while she is here. She is a great little eater! Dr says it's OK.

Hidey is doing some major wingersizes this evening. Driving me nuts!

Eagle-Eyed Sharon said...

How is everybody this evening?

NatureNut said...

Girls Rule!!! Been trying to get online since race was over!!IE has "Error & had to close", wouldn't reopen, other old 'puter slow as Moses! ARRGGHH.
My 2 favorite horses #1 & 2!!! I was really surprised when Rachel A. went to front at start & stayed there. Only saw that happen once before. But since Calvin Borel usually rides her, guess he knew what she could do.
Very dark here, light rain, no more planes flying--think they stop at 5PM. Werather alert on TV for Culpepper area, etc---severe storms.

paula eagleholic said...

Get to see some of the air show, Loretta?

NatureNut said...

Paula, No, I didn't go outside but I sure heard them! Might see some tomorrow. I remember that I guess a year ago, they flew by & I got pic of Blue Angel that I put on as avatar! Time sure flies! Wed. PM, the Thunderbirds were supposed to come in, but I didn't see them at Chelsea Exhibit Office.
Finally saw some goslings there yesterday. Our 2 resident pond geese pairs did not have any babies. When I went out at lunchtime, 4 adults and about 6 goslings were scooting up the dirt road in front of my car!Poor things were booking it as fast as their tiny legs would take them. I went at about 1-2 mph & they finally moved off the road! There is also a containment pond up there, so maybe that's where their nests were. In PM, they had come down to the other side of our pond & I got some pics. If I ever get to dwnld, will put them on here.
Gotta fix dinner.....duh

Hi Everyone that is dropping in and out of Eagleland.

Prayers going up for Mary Margaret..sure hope that swelling goes down. Praying she soon feels much much better and healing moves faster.

Want to thank everyone for Prayers for Ed's Nephew and Wife and their families and friends.

Ed has also been sick so it has been exhausting. I do believe (hoping I'm just not getting hopes up) he is a little better. Bacteria infection as he had in January. This time they got it sooner. Although he only has antibotic until Monday AM. That is the last of it...I do know it continues to work for awhile. Will call dr. Mon or Tues. to confer.

Right now spidey is all over the nest. A moving white blob but throwing out those spidey strings.

Lynn so sorry about your birdie. I sure you placed him in a nice area.
