Home Again! Went to Mass & then came home for a few minutes to catch the race before going out to eat..........

History was made:Rachel Alexandra became the first filly to win The Preakness since 1924. You're right Loretta -
The girls rule What a jockey!
Shame the jockey who rides 3 winners doesn't get a crown! I guess the Belmont will tell all!

OMG, Is that Hidey standing at 1 o'clock? Nest is blurry---web strands & what looks like some rain.
Was just on for awhile to check email & use Tools---get rid of the little stumbling blocks in 'puter. It should be pretty clean---had scans on TH & last night. Maybe it IS IE!
Dana & Mary Margaret----continued prayers....
We lost a lifelong family friend Fri. PM. She was 90, knew she had aneurysm & was at peace about whenever it was to be her time. Was spending 2 weeks in VT w/one son's family. She was the last of that generation of 4 couples called the "Sewing Club". They all had come to DC for jobs around WWII, met here, married & many generations go on. Most of us keep in touch regularly---another family, so we are not real depressed, but thankful we had her for so long.

NatureNut said...

See that IS Hidey---head just moved.
Well, back to the salt mines of To Do list...☺

Mema Jo said...

Watching Hidey in the rain

Hidey is off the edge now and in the nest
around the 2:00 position. Drenched for sure! Headed over towards the edge at 3:00 position but still standing inside the nest.

Mema Jo said...

Both cams up at DC Zoo - Two different pandas and I'm not certain which cam has Mei. Both are out in their dens with bamboo except Cam 2 panda just flaked out sleeping.

Costume Lady said...

Wish Mei would pop out a little one really soon. Hidey will be fledging soon and we will need something close to home to entertain us. We really got short-changed with the Atlanta "Luney".

Turning in now...had a busy day.

Good late evening! Made it to CharlesTown without further rain...but during the banquet it POURED and continued raining until I got home. It NEVER fails...everytime I go down there, it rains! Had a nice evening, tho....good fellowship and entertainment...food was only so-so-----men of the church need some cooking lessons!
Great that The Filly won the Preakness!! Fast-forwarded through to the race itself...hope that Pimlico had a good turnout and made some money!

hedgie said...

Dana, good to see you back.
Loretta, sorry to hear about your friends death. Back in the old days, my grandparents joined with 5 couples from their church who had all come to DC after WW I...their club was called The Fireside Club. I remember 4th of July picnics with them when I was little, as well as hymn sings on other occasions. After one of the gentlemen passed away, his wife sold my dad his car for my first car: a 1956 Buick Roadmaster w/ 20,000 miles on it---this was in 1968!

Mema Jo said...

Time for me to say

Good Night All
Peaceful dreams and restful sleep
Prayers being said for all our needs

Looks like everyone has disappeared! Goodnight, Jo. I guess I'll get ready to turn in, too. OMG---possible frost tomorrow night! Don't forget to cover flowers/veggies! Sleep well. Prayers going up for all.

Check out this interesting news from England!

Enchanted with a magic bald eagle at Warwick Castle
May 16 2009 by Marion McMullen, Coventry Telegraph
Add a commentRecommend THE birth of bald eagle chick Merlin is just magic.

He is making history at Warwick Castle by being the first bald eagle hatchling to be born at the famous landmark.

Proud parents Sydney and Archie are stars of the Flight Of The Eagles show and permanent fixtures at Warwick Castle.

Little Merlin hatched 10 days ago and now resides in the castle grounds with the rest of his extended family – which includes peacocks and even vultures.

Chris O’Donnel, resident falconer and bird of prey expert, said: “Both Sydney and Archie are Warwick Castle veterans and have spent many years flying together.

“It was only when we discovered two eggs in Sydney’s winter quarters that we realised that the pair were more than just good friends and that Sydney was a lady.

“This makes the arrival of Merlin even more special as he was so unexpected.”

Merlin will be hand-reared by Chris and his team at the castle and will be ready to join his parents in the flying displays when he is around three months old.

Bald eagles were almost extinct at the turn of the last century through loss of habitat and the widespread use of pesticides, but extensive breeding programmes have seen numbers grow from an all-time low of 400 to well over 70,000.

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, everyone, it's 8:30 pm in SoCal, and I thought I'd check on Hidey and see what's happening. Oh-- there's Hidey at about 3:00. Looks like Spidey has been VERY busy with more artwork! Now Hidey's at the center of the nest, trying to straighten out some feathers. Must've really rained back there! Had the neatest thing happen just before dinnertime here. Filled the bird feeders with seed, and some of the birds started showing up. Had a Paul Potts CD playing loudly, and one of our male house finches started singing along with it! Sang his little heart out, really loudly, too! (Paul Potts is the British cell phone salesman that blew everyone away with his opera singing talent on the UK version of American Idol.)

Ms Bookworm said...

Hidey is back at 4:00 on the nest. Hope it doesn't rain any more! Hey, how about Rachel Alexandra! That was quite a race, and quite a jockey! That filly certainly has class!

Ms Bookworm said...

NatureNut, SO sorry to hear of your loss! Your friend must have been full of really interesting stories. I'm sure she will be sorely missed, and never forgotten. Prayers being said for her family and you and yours-- also for MM, and for Mits (hope you feel better soon)! Welcome back, Dana; continued prayers for you & family. Hedgie, so sorry about your swallows' nest! That poor little baby bird! Sweet of you to bury it in a nice place. Well, can't see much of Hidey, who's hiding under the spider web, so think I'll go watch some TV. Hope everyone has a good night's sleep, and will talk to you tomorrow. Prayers for many blessings! :o]

Ms Bookworm said...

Hi, everybody! Still awake, so came back to check on Hidey, because I could hear the rain clear at the other end of the house!!! Whoa, it's raining SIDEWAYS!! (No spider web now!) Poor Hidey was flapping those wings like crazy a minute ago-- probably to try to dry them out a bit! Now our poor baby is at 3:00, facing right, into the rain, and looking kind of miserable. "Hey, Mom or Dad, I could use an umbrella about now!" Awwww, Hidey! Bless your heart!!! :o[

Ed seems better since I took him off the cough medicine. He was getting overcome by it (like a high and dizzy). Although it is only one that his Heart Specialist tells him to take over the counter. No alcohol, no sugar, no dyes almost nothing. Yet it affected him this time badly. I'm keeping him from the pool tomorrow also. His last antibiotic is 1 tomorrow. Needs to build strength back up from this bacteria infection.

Prayers for MM will continue until she is much better.

Its very time consuming and I am going to charge more for all of this time. I so wish I could be with you guys this weekend. I have never seen the nest occupied. By the time I get there in Oct everyone flew the coop!

I'm glad you have found enjoyment in genealogy. With it now helping to bring in some funds. I use to love doing it. I mostly went to the areas and hit the court houses, historical societies, libraries and grave yards.

Anne are you doing most of your work over the computer?

Jo your so right she is in the birthing den. Couldn't remember the name of it lol ty ( :

Hope you had a successful day at market, despite the van problem!
Guess you are getting ready for work, Margy.....wishing you a quiet evening!
Dana, hope Ed is feeling better.
A-M...heard on the weather this am that it was to be 100 from SanFran to Sacramento....thought of you when I heard it!

hedgie said...

Jo, you've sure had a busy weekend!

hedgie said...

Mits, hope that jubby is pampering you real good this weekend...especially since he deserted you on Mothers' Day and when you've been feeling so bad!!
Ceil, have you've gotten MM's mail from her place? Please give her (((hugs))) from me!

wvgal_dana said...

Margy hope your shift goes well. Humm time off you say. I bet you'll find something to do with that off time.

Lynn ty yes I do think he is on the mend. Just so tired. I have sent away for a pulse oximeter. I need to monitor his oxygen level. I believe it is dropping. That's why he is so tired possibly.

Yes you all are right Mits needs to be pampered. Which I'm sure her hubby will do.

Bev's is home or coming so he can pamper her some.

Good Evening...
Hidey is braving the wind right now. I am glad he is not on the edge in his favorite spot! My picture is freezing off and on. I'm wondering if the wind has anything to do with it. At least it only last for a few seconds.
We took Dustin back to Winchester...had a nice viist with him this weekend. He is acting more like a young man now and I'm not sure how to handle that. He's my youngest grandchild and now he's not a 'child' anymore. He told me today that he would like a suit like Granddaddy's to wear to church. He doesn't think a T-Shirt and shorts are suitable to wear to church! Wahoo! Also, yesterday, GeeGee had an accident and he said he knew that God was watching over her and that is why she didn't get hurt. Praise the Lord...all these years of putting up with his annoying me in church has finally paid off. Didn't think he was even listening!:)

Hidey is whining...wonder if he is hungry or lonely.

Wanda is Gee Gee okay? What happened?

Eagle-Eyed's Sissy said...

Well, Tom came home just in time to go to his mom's. Sunday night is his night to stay with her, so it is still just me and Mattie here this evening. She takes good care of me though, even if SHE is the one who gave me this junk!!!

I have had a busy day - I am going in and sit for a spell!

Hidey should be getting some food soon.

Wanda I'm like Ceil---is GeeGee alright?

Costume Lady said...

Ceil, sorry, I wandered off to emails. I am so far behind in emails and blog comments...trying to catch up. GeeGee is fine. She was a little shaken, but a nerve pill took care of that and some TLC from us. A Verizon truck pulled out in front of her...said he didn't see her because a truck was parked near the road and blocked his view. Just one of those things. I didn't think she would ever drive again, but she hopped into her SUV (spare vehicle for snowy days) and came to church today. Can't keep a good woman down:)

Here comes food!

wvgal_dana said...

Mits said...

I know there is supposed to be a meeting tomorrow on Mei, so as soon as I am able to release info I will....have not had any report on her hormone level since the 14th, and that was taken from the 11th.....so looks like we are not getting many frequent updates, and either she has reached baseline and nothing has happened, or we still have a ways to go to wait
