Thanks Steve:) We have one eagle in the nest right now...looks like it's working on the nest cup- may have brought in nesting materials, not sure. Sitting in nest cup and moving around to press down the fluff.
Was reading Lisa's info at BWE last night and she says that when female spends the night in the nest, egg-laying is imminent. So, night-owls will have to keep an eagle eye out and let us know!!
Guess I'll go brave this cold and hike out to get the papers. It's only about 200 yds. out, but it's a hard walk when it's cold....COPD and cold air don't go well together! But need to get a move on...taking a friend to the hospital later for a test, so gotta get this rear in motion! BBL.
Buddy is doing so good, Lynn, thanks for asking. He is a little hateful sometimes, but I think that is because he is not used to so many people and other dogs around. I think he gets a little intimidated by it all.
We are at a balmy 15 degrees here in Bluefield this morning.

Morning all. Things are getting back to normal after trip. We went on a tram ride in Oregon and you could see Mt. Hood and Mt. Helena. Beautiful. As we were leaving Oregon you could see Mt. Hood. Where is Red this morning? He is usually on early. Errands to run. Helen about to call your DIL to see if she has the flyers for Polar Bear Plunge next Saturday
Been to Mt. Washington in the summer, and it was cold then! Can't imagine being there now!! Last winter 2 firefighters (1 from my SIL's station) got lost up there for a couple of dayhs...luckily were rescued safely. Dangerous place. Highest winds ever recorded in continental US was there. Sissy, little Buddy probably has the right to feel intimidated, etc., after everything he's been through. He'll soon know what great hands he's in!!
Red was out shopping for long John's. Getting ready for the winter blast. We're not used to this cold stuff. Need to be on a cruise in the caribbean or somewhere warm. No one needs to remind me to not visit Mt Washington in the winter. lol
Hollie keeps laying on Buddy's blanket and it just plumb displaces him. That is his security!! But she just loves it. I keep moving her and then turn around and she is back on it and he is standing in the middle of the room looking at her. Funniest thing.
Good morning! I really slept in this morning. Didn't wake up until almost 9 when Annie meowed in my face. Guess she was saying, "Get up, sleepyhead!"
So, most of you have very cold weather. It was 33 here this morning, but tonight it is supposed to hit hard, but last a very short time, and then the temps go back up.
I'm about ready to head out. See I missed a visit! Well, I'll be home in time for a 5'ish look-see! Have a good day! BTW...Ceil, you aren't taking a Polar Plunge, are you????
Found something that works for refreshing the blog....I click on the link at the top of the page where it say to comment "Shepherdstown Eagle Cam Daily", so it takes me back out to the main blog page, and then I get back into the comments section for today.
Just came on a bit ago and see Margy going to drs. Margy hope all turns out well gal.
Was on the phone with BioD. up in Maine. They are going out a some point to replace the night light at Maine nest. So he will be checking out the area for construction.
Told me about the 2nd nest that will be coming on line at some point. It is about 100 miles away from the Maine nest we watch now. He said this pair have been nesting there awhile. Said the view online will be spectular.
Wednesday, January 14 It’s been a while since I have had the pleasure of working with Xi Lan and the rest of the pandas. The little lad has done a bunch of growing since the last time I spent some time with him. Not only is he mobile these days, but he is also extremely inquisitive about his environment. I worked closely with Mei Lan when she was growing up, and I don’t remember her exploring nearly as much as Xi Lan does. While we were doing our routine morning cleaning, which takes several hours, he was never in the same spot from where I had last seen him. First, he was up on the mesh and then he was in another den playing with some wood wool. He would go into the dayroom for a while and then he would come back inside. He even followed us for a while. When all of that seemed to bore him, there was always mom to annoy, which he did for a little while. Once Xi Lan had accomplished all of the playing and exploring, then came the inevitable crash. After several hours of play time, Lun Lun took him into the dayroom hammock to feed him lunch. After lunch, he curled up with mom for a well-deserved nap. That was about four hours ago, and he hasn’t moved a muscle since. I guess being an inquisitive kid really takes it out of you.
On a side note, Xi Lan weighed 7.7 kg today. Kenn Harwood Lead Keeper of Carnivores
Hi Everyone! Boy was I running late this am.. I have another one of the eye appointments (this should be the last one for awhile) for the retina. I will be in touch when I return..
Lynn I was going to do the Polar Bear Plunge this year but chickened out. Just trying to raise pledges for Kevin. Helen's bil did it last year and we did not recognize him. I have never seen that color before. Well I am off to give out flyers. Hope it warms up next week.
So cold today, I didn't even bring camera to work. Didn't think anything migrating would be here today---only deer. Never got back on last night---had to go to late PM dental appt. & got home late, had dinner & watched Am. Idol.I can't believe they put Bikini Girl thru. She couldn't even sing!I love it when Randy hides his face due to laughing at the bad ones! That's enough about that!
They oughta do a Polar Bear plunge in the Potomac for Inaug! If you could get to it. Closing all the bridges--mostly from VA to DC. What is that?? For the 1st time our Park will be closed! We are open every holiday except Thksgvg, Xmas & New Years. Helen (you're prob at Zoo),are you going to OC? Getting out of town is a good idea. Person called Park yesterday & wanted to reserve a campsite for Inaug & drive to closest subway!Must be from out of town.
Hi, Geula ! Long time, no see your comments. I'm glad you have been keeping track of Xi Lan. Now, that he is 'getting his legs,' he's really on a tear to see and experience everything in the area. And he's 17 lbs. already!
Are you watching ZZ's progress at the San Diego Zoo? She's still a bundle of fun too.
I just returned from the eye dr & I am kinda blind in one eye and can't see out of the other with all the drop ANYHOW I opened Mason's site and you all may have already seen it.
Mason's first words:
Hi Mom.
That is worth a good cry of joyfulness for Sylvia & Brain & all of us.
That probably means that his brain is recovering from the terrific shock it suffered and that it might not be as permanently damaged as feared. Thank God.
I read that blog earlier, but it hadn't been updated yet. This is terrific news. Answer to many prayers.
OK need to close my eyes until they are not dilated... Dr said everything looked good so this may be the last treatment I need for the retina to repair itself.
Soooooooooo Happy about Mason! Those candles helped do the trick! Praises to God!
Good afternoon! Have been working here at the computer for quite a while. I have finaly created a blog for my NYC trip. I added a lot of pictures....but NOT all. LOL Be sure to click at the bottom on older blogs to get all the pictures. I think you have to do that twice.
I've been looking at Lolly's pictures of her special "Christmas Present" NYC Trip. I tried to pick out just one pic but I can't. They are beautiful Lolly ! Your son and you look so much alike. Proud Mother !
Glad you all enjoyed the pictures of my trip. Took me a while to get them on. I really was so much fun and now seems like a dream.
Have spent the day working on a book for Zach's third birthday which is Feb. 1. I wrote a book for Joseph on his 2nd birthday. Had to do it for Jacob, of course, and could not come up with an original idea. However, for his 3rd I finally did a book, a take off on "Big A, little a, what begins with A?" Put personal pictures in it and now I am doing doing the same for Zach. It is very time consuming.
Now that I can see I will read what I missed and will go look at Lolly's pics. On Chn 4 - I saw our NZ pandas & I bet Helen was on the cam because I saw the same view late this afternoon on the cam! So the BACON says it all Megan - Great! I have no clue what that little varmint was at the BWE... Last year there was a flying squirrel.. all I know is that it had 2 little headlight shinning in the night light. Eye is still a little sensitive - so I won't be here too long.
Your so welcome Sissy...I can't wait to see Lisa put it up and her responce. Hold onto that addy and when you see things at BWO & BWE email the pics to her. That is how that pic gallary you see at both places where the pics comes from. People like you that catch the shots. ( :
Just the kindergarten teacher coming out in me! LOL I have actually made Joseph two books. When he turned 5 we took him to the Sante Fe Balloon Fieta. I made him a book about our trip. Jacob goes this next Oct. Will have to make him a book as well. It is fun!
Evening all! Still trying to catch up! Good to know that Geula is safe. Megan, live the bacon avatar..way to go, Mason! Was Helen really on TV? Is it liable to be repeated at 11, Jo? Lolly, love your NYC pics! Beautiful...and what a handsome son you have!
Yes, I changed my avatar in honor of Mason's good news:) I am no longer grouchy or grumpy- just very teary, in a good way. I think Jo meant Helen was running the panda cam today??

Those pics of Lolly's are so great. You always hear on tv bad about Central Park. It is beautiful !
I don't know how to send anything to Lisa. Can anyone tell me how. I clearly see the tail, but don't know what it is.
Sissy I'm sending you her email addy send pic just as you did through Eaglet_Momsters.
Sorry, my computer went haywire- I had to shut it down...It looks like a flying squirel to me, they are nocturnal. I got a picture-did you, Sissy?
Check your email Sissy
Great capture Sissy -- Lisa will write you back and tell you. She'll probably put it up on the page.
MEGAN you here??
Thanks Dana!!
MEGAN !!
Love that Bacon Avatar!
That's your well-wish for Mason, isn't it... ♥
I think that means you are Happy!
Lolly :
What a special treat you are doing, you are one Special Grandma!

Your so welcome Sissy...I can't wait to see Lisa put it up and her responce. Hold onto that addy and when you see things at BWO & BWE email the pics to her. That is how that pic gallary you see at both places where the pics comes from. People like you that catch the shots. ( :
Lolly the book you're doing for the grandsons is the greatest long lasting gift you could ever give! ♥
