Margy I did forget about Coon hunting. Don't know why I didn't think of that. A friend use to have coon hounds and he hunted at night. He always called me because I had to make sure my baby fox was inside. Or they would smell her and go after her.
Like I said on the other thread. Belle and Liberty certainly would not be scared of gunshots. Since they have used this nest for years. They probably have heard gunshots before.
Jo, most Birds of Prey do not fly at night--owls being the exception. They are doing studies now, they think some raptors do fly at night during migration if the conditions are right.
Good evening all you lovely people. I have been lurking also and just came in to see the eagle fly off the nest again. Couldn't believe it when I saw an eagle in the nest twice tonight. Now, I finally heard a gunshot. They sound as if they are above the nest talking.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU MEGAN! I guess they were all hoping an egg would appear on your birthday. That would be a nice present for you.
Yes, Margy, raccoon is the only nightime hunting allowed...but, of course, we all know that the poachers don't care. Guess if it was coon, we should/would also hear the hounds!
Sure hope that Security catches someone if there is anybody on NCTC property!!! Guess the whole place is fenced, except on the river side....but poachers will do whatever they have to do to get what they want.
Talked to Jefferson County 911 - - who handles the calls for sheriffs office at night (I did not call 9-1-1 though, can't do that from another county...)
NCTC called and told them there would be some hunting on the NCTC property tonight, people with permits, part of some crop damage program, and, it would include deer hunting.
It is What It Is.....
But I would say, that NCTC people would be very careful about the deal....
Whew! We were about going crazy were we not? I'm still not all that crazy about the situation, but am sure there is good reason for it....crops feed people...wonder if it was ever done before this close to egg-laying season, but I guess that is something we can ask Steve about, by email preferably....Sound Okay ?
While we are standing by, SD Magazine took 30 pictures today. That doesn't mean they will use 300 pictures, if they use any. She just liked them and will see what works with her story. Her dad will be home for the legislature and I am sure he will have input.
Thanks, Margy, now we can all relax. We have special hunting here, too, but not at night. The fish hatcheries are trapping coons, they are so bad at stealing fish.
I'm surprised they're doing that at night, but if they didn't get rid of enough deer during muzzle season when they had that hunt, then nighttime is a good time to shoot deer, if they are spotlighting. Sounds mean, but there are way too many deer, I know this first hand.
Thanks, Margy...didn't know that NCTC was growing crops, though...LOL--with alot of irony in it! Sorry, but I think it's wrong...JMHO...in a controlled area like it is, they could use a birth control means of decreasing the population like they do in other isolated places. And I can't believe that NCTC folks would even consider allowing it at this time of year. I'm a bit fired up...sorry. Going to take my bath and calm down. BBL.
that's funny, Megan, mine came home tonight and wanted to know if I had an ocean sound machine on. I told him we were waiting for an egg in the nest, and he said thought that already happened. I said that was BW, he just walked away:)
We returned from eating...it was yummy! Immediately went to the nest and there was an eagle! Then started reading the blog. THE TIMR is getting very close!
Megan, I don't know for sure what you wished for, but I know what I wish for you. It is for happiness, contentment, and a feeling of security and all will be fine! Hope your birthday has been a good one, even though you did have to scrub the bathroom floor. LOL
Zach has an ear infection, the party at this moment is still on. Will decorate the second cake in the morning. Had to make two cakes as there are going to be over 50 people at the party tomorrow. Laurel and I call his parties "Zachapaloozas" as they are such extravagant affairs for such a little boy. It is a bowling party at a bowling alley, over 50 people coming and an Elvis impersonator. HE IS THREE!!!!
Whoops!.. Ashley just called, party is postponed until a week from Sunday. Zach's fever has gone back up. Now I gotta try to find room in a full freezer for two cakes! YIKES!
Oh, Lolly - that was a very nice post....so sorry the little tyke is ailing and the party is postponed. You could EAT the cakes in honor of Megan's birthday, and then make more ☺ Wish I lived close by!
Well, we could eat the cakes to celebrate Megan's birthday...and I redo two more cakes...however, I special ordered edible pictures of Elvis for the cake. So, sorry, have to freeze.
I read it Margy and thank you so much for finding out that info. We knew that earlier they had a deer hunt at NCTC - Why again and why now? I be they can kill and buck or doe.. I THINK IT SUCKS TO BE DOING IT DURING EAGLE SEASON - P$$S POOR TIMING! I AM GOING TO BRING IT TO SOME NCTC's STAFF'S ATTENTION....
Wow, I can find my way to your house for one of those Mema!
Yeah, the timing seems kind of poor...speaking of poor, maybe they will help feed the poor with what they get. There are good programs for that....and plenty of need.
Yeah, I know the timing seems off, but remember, NCTC is a FWS site, and all about nature and conservation, they have lots of experts and I'm sure they wouldn't let anything happen that would harm the eagles. That being said,I wish this hunt would have been weeks ago if they had to do it.
maybe..... NCTC figured they had one more good week-end night to get this done before the normally predicted egg-laying date. Could that possibly figure in? But then again what about all the other week-ends in January...It's a head-scratcher for sure. Have we ever had live feed this early in the season to even hear it happening in the past? I'm too new to know!
I know deer start dropping their antlers in January ... (does not seem to be the case at PIX PA yet) .. wonder if the hunters can even tell what they are getting...
Margy, dear, thank you so much for bringing me up-to-date on the nest happenings.
I think controlled is absolutely necessary, but not near the nest, now. Of course, what Margy just said is food for thought. They may be getting in one more weekend before hunting is a no, no altogether. What does an eagle do with an egg that needs to be laid, but is scared off??
You GO, JO & I'll come with you!!! Margy, I don't think there was any sound before whenever we got it in '08. Is that funny coughing noise the birds? Heard it when sound would go off & on & thought it must be the mic. Lolly, sorry about little one's illness on B'day. He's awful young to be an elvis fan! ♥ ☺
I didn't think so either, Loretta. I have been watching since 2006 - I learned a lot from all the Blog posts during that time, glad I finally joined in! It has been a most satisfying experience...♥
Well, one day down and two to go at work for you? Sounds like one of my week-end tours... Hope you get to see a lot of good stuff Saturday... xo
Guess no way to know what the allergen is, huh? Typical questions we ask people: any new products in use? any stressors? And most of the time the answer is NO!! Sometimes stuff just happens. Steroid should do the trick!
Loretta, he is obsessed with Elvis. Wants his DVDs played all the time. He can name his songs and knows the words. He wanted and received a guitar for Christmas. I think it is a bit much, but then I am only the paternal Grandmommy!
Gotta get away from this 'puter for awhile, clean up kitchen, "swish w/saltwater says the dentist" & get stuff ready for FREEZING work in AM.But maybe I'll see an eagle!!!! Had a wonderful appt. in AM--called scaling & root planing---only 2 teeth. Needed 3 shots of Novacaine & I have high pain tolerance.Nothing hurts at all now---must have numbed my brain! LOL
I had a "Benjie" type dog once, and he had a terrific flea allergy, poor soul scratched himself terribly, we tried to control it but did not have much luck.
Also had a dachschund once, and, a poodle, and, a Peek-a-poo. When I grow up, I want to own another bunch of dogs!
Margy reminded me I haven't given an update on my uncle recently. He is doing so much better. His appetite is back--that is a biggie--how can you get your strength back if you aren't eating. His attitude came back with his appetite--another biggie! He was so down, because he felt so bad. Everyone was telling him to eat, and here he had barium in his stomach and colon. He moved back to Rehab yesterday, excited about getting going on the exercising. His son gets to come visit this weekend, too. I am sure that helped his attitude. They are very close.
wonder what kind of security procedures they have to go thru to bring guns onto government property, they always search Robyns car top to bottom everytime she goes in....they are probably all sitting in the local bar now, laughing at the eagle ladies...ha! But don't ruffle our feathers
That's good news, Deb, glad to hear it. My dog has never had fleas, thank goodness, but has had these allergy issues for a couple of years now, not too often, and the shot usually takes care of it, this was the worst I've ever seen it.
Deb the update on your uncle is such good news. Thanks for sharing. Prayers are still being said for his recovery & for you & the family to have peace of mind.
I pray Paula's day with all her family has been a loving day.
Ok, my last load of laundry is finally dry, I know, I know, but a woman's work is never done...now I'm sending myself to bed. nite all:) Thanks for the company and all the birthday wishes:)
Going to close down for the day.. Red - It's ok to let the dogs in your bed - I really don't like sleeping alone. Some evenings we have 3 pet felines sharing - just glad I have a king bed!
Megan, thanks for sharing your birthday with us...it was like a party all day:) Good night Jo, Red, Megan, Margy....aw shucks... GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE SWEET DREAMS PRAYERS FOR ALL
Deb, Glad your uncle is progressing!! Lots of positive things going on today---hope more for tomorrow. Might be Eggciting!!! Night to all, Pleasant Feather Dreams ☺
I did see her standing but she laid down while I was signing on to the Blog...so I didn't get a chance to see what you were looking at Jo just before she laid down.
It was tricky to sight. I just hope I saw what I saw and that someone in the morning light sees an egg. That would be wonderful. I better get off to bed.. I've stopped coughing! May attach some pics & send out before leaving. Too soon for an egg roll!
Margy, she is in the exact spot where some of us saw what looked to be an egg earlier, she had her back towards cam, turned around and pushed that object, up and under her

Dave, loved the evening shot with the power plant steam!
And Glo, your latest are great, too!
I hear that Eagle choking or sneezing sound, when I do have sound
MeganL What kind of cake, and will you tell us how many candles ? 16 right? ☺
Hi everyone. Have been lurking. My sound is terrible.
Question Can you hunt at night?
I think if the shots are near the property they would hear them.
I wouldn't think it would scare her that bad unless it was aimed at the tree!!! Jo, call Security!!
Yes Coon hunting is at night..
I put a post about hunting season on before the Split
Do you think Belle just goes up on the limb. The eagles don't fly in the dark
of night - do they? Owls do - right Deb?
well the light we see are probably the guards riding the perimeter...always saw the lights after the shots
I can hear one of them close by
Margy I did forget about Coon hunting. Don't know why I didn't think of that. A friend use to have coon hounds and he hunted at night. He always called me because I had to make sure my baby fox was inside. Or they would smell her and go after her.
Margy, the article about JR is up on the Journals' website.
Thanks Margy. Was posting when you were posting.
I would feel better if the guards know what we are hearing
plane just went by
Well, I never knew that they would fly at night. Guess you learn something all the time. 'Course the geese do.
Like I said on the other thread. Belle and Liberty certainly would not be scared of gunshots. Since they have used this nest for years.
They probably have heard gunshots before.
I did call the main number at the desk of NCTC hoping a guard would answer -
just got the automated answering service.
Did not leave a message.
Jo, most Birds of Prey do not fly at night--owls being the exception. They are doing studies now, they think some raptors do fly at night during migration if the conditions are right.
As usual...Journal not up-to-date...it said arrangements weren't com plete....NOT TRUE. Obit has full info.
And that is not all owls, some owls are not nocturnal--the short-eared owl is one that hunts during the day.
Thanks for trying Jo.
I think I am going to call it a night. Pleasant dreams all.
night Ceil:)
There it goes again!! I'm driving up there!!! Another!
Eagles Nesting, Do Not Disturb!
& I'll bring my hiking stick!
still hear eagles
I would think that if Belle & Lib sat
and watched the July 4th fireworks - a gunshot would not shake them up.
She probably just went up into the tree and didn't fly away.
they live next to a noisy day care center
they have been staying up in the branches at night for days now
Going to go catch some tv will be checking in.
I feel the same way Mema Jo.
lights again
Yes, Margy, raccoon is the only nightime hunting allowed...but, of course, we all know that the poachers don't care. Guess if it was coon, we should/would also hear the hounds!
could be the guards, hunting:)
I was kind of hoping that Lierty and Belle would hold off on their first egg until the weather got a little better.
I think someone is checking it out. The light in front of the nest looked like it flashed into the nest tree once.
Well, poop, I guess that is the light shining on a leaf, maybe...
Okay - I am going to call the sheriffs office in Jefferson Co and see if I can get anywhere with that. Be back in a few....
xo
Okay = Stand by for the Answer !
Sure hope that Security catches someone if there is anybody on NCTC property!!! Guess the whole place is fenced, except on the river side....but poachers will do whatever they have to do to get what they want.
standing by
I'm sitting by...
well if any harm comes to those eagles, that person will be some sorry dude
Talked to Jefferson County 911 - - who handles the calls for sheriffs office at night (I did not call 9-1-1 though, can't do that from another county...)

I'm all apuddle right about now, hands sweating, heart racing, that was just too much Drama !
Thanks, Margy, now we can all relax. We have special hunting here, too, but not at night. The fish hatcheries are trapping coons, they are so bad at stealing fish.
thanks, Margy....it amazes me that they can do that, and we have to keep our cars down the side of the road, during nesting season
I'm surprised they're doing that at night, but if they didn't get rid of enough deer during muzzle season when they had that hunt, then nighttime is a good time to shoot deer, if they are spotlighting. Sounds mean, but there are way too many deer, I know this first hand.
Thanks Margy. You are a jewll.
sounds good Deb:)
Thanks Margy, by the way, my cake only had 7 candles....
I hear ya, Megan
Margy I am still here. Thanks so much. Not thrilled with the hunting but nothing I can do.
arghhh!!!!! That stinks but at least we know what it is. And I agree I think the timing isn't so great for our nesting birds :(.
One candle for each 3 years.
OH, Red you are so smooth- must be all the wax...lol....
Okay, Megan, sounds perfect! But how will you drive to market??
We sure are grateful to your dear parents...
xo ☺
Wanda is going to flip when she gets home and tries to catch up on the Blog....
car horn
Hubby said I had to turn the sound down, it was annoying, can you imagine?? the nerve..he just fell asleep in the chair-so SOUND UP....
Thanks, Margy...didn't know that NCTC was growing crops, though...LOL--with alot of irony in it! That is smooooth, Red... just your style! I can't wait until it's MY Birthday and I try to pull a fastie on you...☺
Sure is nice to have a Man Presence on here tonight...but you are way way out-numbered, friend.
I just finally figured out that Raccoons has two C's and two O's.
Duh....
Interesting Friday Night Date Night for us all. ☺
Hello to everyone on here !
Too many to name ! We have a nearly full house !
that's funny, Megan, mine came home tonight and wanted to know if I had an ocean sound machine on. I told him we were waiting for an egg in the nest, and he said thought that already happened. I said that was BW, he just walked away:)
I enjoy being outnumbered Marby. I'm old but not dead. lol
we ought to find out if any of the hunters are IT guys, you hunt, you help with the cam
As long we don't embarass you, RED... I will watch my language!
Yeah, any sound technicians???
Yeah, Mits...
Labor Trade !
On the way, DEB...
email, that is...
Hi all! Boy, you had some excitement tonight.
We returned from eating...it was yummy! Immediately went to the nest and there was an eagle! Then started reading the blog. THE TIMR is getting very close!

I'm hard to embarass too.
Shepherdstown goes thru cops like I go thru candy bars... and on a Friday night they will be busy with the drunks...
Oh, Lolly - that was a very nice post....so sorry the little tyke is ailing and the party is postponed. You could EAT the cakes in honor of Megan's birthday, and then make more ☺
Wish I lived close by!
Oh Mema, I already posted the info, did you see it? It's about 25 thousand posts back.
xo
I hear the eagles, they must be right up above the nest, I keep hearing that 'barking' noise
Hey !
Mema used her trash can!
I saw you slip through our fingers, Mema ! ☺
I hope Norma gets her trash can back when she gets her computer back !
Well, we could eat the cakes to celebrate Megan's birthday...and I redo two more cakes...however, I special ordered edible pictures of Elvis for the cake. So, sorry, have to freeze.
That's ok, I'm not an Elvis fan anyway...sorry
Lolly, too bad Zack is sick on his party day. :(
I was hoping Norma would get her computer back today.
I read it Margy and thank you so much for finding out that info. We knew that earlier they had a deer hunt at NCTC - Why again and why now? I be they can kill
and buck or doe..
I THINK IT SUCKS TO BE DOING IT
DURING EAGLE SEASON - P$$S POOR TIMING!
I AM GOING TO BRING IT TO SOME NCTC's STAFF'S ATTENTION....
From all my typo's on the previous
comment you can tell I Lost My Cool...
I will chill out now
I am going to have to settle for a
oatmeal creme cake!!
Tell 'em Jo! We do not want anyone messing with OUR eagles!
I give up with my speakers
Glad you all tell us what you are hearing
On the puppy cam or the panda NZ cam,
I hear things very clear.. But not
my eagles... :(
GO GET 'EM, JO!
Wow, I can find my way to your house for one of those Mema!
Yeah, the timing seems kind of poor...speaking of poor, maybe they will help feed the poor with what they get. There are good programs for that....and plenty of need.
So, let me get this straight; Belle was on the nest, seemingly to spend the night and maybe lay a MEEG-AN, and gunshots scared her off?
Wanda - I sent you a little emails with a synopsis....
figured you would flip when you saw all the Blog Entries piling up...
(does not seem to be the case at PIX PA yet)
.. wonder if the hunters can even tell what they are getting...
Megan
It was sure nice that you spent so much of your birthday with us!
I'll second that emotion, Megan! And Jo, I'm with you! Please do talk to someone....maybe we should start a petition!!!
Megan, what did the vet say?
I can't hear a thing on the nest cam either, Jo, unless I keep fussing with it and I have had enough of that today!
So, how many oatmeal creme cakes is it taking to soothe the spirit?
I can eat those things by the boxful! ☺ ♥

Lolly, sorry about little one's illness on B'day. He's awful young to be an elvis fan! ♥ ☺
Vet said it was an allergy, gave the dog a steroid shot to help.

Had a wonderful appt. in AM--called scaling & root planing---only 2 teeth. Needed 3 shots of Novacaine & I have high pain tolerance.Nothing hurts at all now---must have numbed my brain! LOL
Westies are known for having allergy issues.
We didn't have sound last year, they didn't have the live feed up when she laid the first egg last year.
more car lights
I had a "Benjie" type dog once, and he had a terrific flea allergy, poor soul scratched himself terribly, we tried to control it but did not have much luck.
Also had a dachschund once, and, a poodle, and, a Peek-a-poo. When I grow up, I want to own another bunch of dogs!

I'm going to say good night now.
Good Night Now.
I expect to be up roaming in the middle of the night and I bet that Eagle comes back to the nest.
Sure was a fun Birthday. Even though it wasn't mine!
You have 97 minutes left, Megan, hope they are magical ones!
God Bless Us Every One.
Prayers for wellness, comfort, safety, and serenity. xo ♥

good news, Deb:)
Margy I only ate 1 oatmeal creme pie
Now I am squirting Cheddar & Bacon easy

Deb the update on your uncle is such good news. Thanks for sharing. Prayers are still being said for his recovery & for you & the family to have peace of mind.
I pray Paula's day with all her family has been a loving day.

Oh, I forgot to tell you :
You are all a bunch of really cool Eagle ♀ and ♂ Dudettes and Dudes.
I'm really crazy about you, and very grateful for this meeting place.

Margy, stop crying and get to bed...
there she goes again, sending people to bed:):)
That's me, I'm in control..

I'll second that emotion, too!!!
G'night, Margy!
This one is going to bed too. Since Mrs Red is gone guess I'll let the dogs in bed with me. lol
Going to close down for the day..
Red - It's ok to let the dogs in your bed - I really don't like sleeping alone.
Some evenings we have 3 pet felines sharing - just glad I have a king bed!

Belle still in the nest on egg well facing 1:00 position...
1:59 am
Tonight
Partly cloudy. Lows around 19.
West winds 5 to 10 mph.
Belle's feathers are getting a good
ruffling from the wind. Saw her glowing eye a minute ago And she changed her
position as I was typing the weather.
Belle is now facing noon position in the nest..at least she isn't facing the wind.
Anyone out there
I swear I saw an egg when she just stood up
Did not have my still cam on fast enough
She is still standing
Belle is still standing over the egg well
She has been moving her head to the sides
I'm up and watching...not sure how long I'll be here but I see the Lady Bird... ☺
I SAW IT AGAIN AS THE EAGLE TURNED TOWARDS ME
The live feed showed it so well BUT
trying to take a pic on Still Cam didn't show it - the refresh was not at the right time.
I wish someone were running a tape...
Margy Did you see an egg when she
turned?? You know my eyesight!!!
I was up at 12:30 and she was not there yet...
Hello, out there, 2:21a.m., see the eagle in the nest...yes it is breezy, and sound is perfect
I still see what I saw earlier, when everyone else said it was nothing...
she is head first into the egg cup
Jo: We have an Egg !
she is rolling the object that was on the cam earlier underneath her
Pic not good for a screen grab, but that was an egg in there !
Jo, please tell me you are still here.
MITS - Hello!
It looked bigger to me, and she rolled it...I'm trying to be accurate on what I saw....
I saw what looked like she was turning it and a wiggle wiggle
Margy, she is in the exact spot where some of us saw what looked to be an egg earlier, she had her back towards cam, turned around and pushed that object, up and under her
If I don't see it again for sure I will go back and delete my We have an Egg post.....
so I'll be watching...
I follow you, MITS, just thought this was bigger.....tried the still but everything was too washed out looking so I didn't try for a grab
what ever the object was she pushed it up and out of the fluff, and then underneath her.
I am still here with ya all!
You can't get a good pic on the still cam cause the night light makes it a blur right where you want to see.
Sent the pics out but you just don't see what I saw on the Live Feed.
I just wish we could see our eagle tuck its head under the wing and then we would know all is well.
yes cannot take pic on still
her white head blends in with the white light
I don't have sound on - hubby asleep and so are the cats......
I thought she was going to blow over just before she laid down the last time...
yeah turned my sound off too
head is up looking around
I should have come on here first. Thought I was the only one up! Silly me. :)
I never get up, phone rang, wrong number, so I'm awake
I was hoping that your dogs would
awaken you...... How long have you been up & watching?
I had sound but lost it...
DEB - don't take my word for it, we are still trying to figure it out...
I just got on and sent an e-mail about nothing moving but the wind. Of course, then she turned her head.
I'm here because I had a coughing spell
I did leave my Live Feed and blog up so
I came in and saw Belle in the nest & then read Sharon's comment.
I keep losing sound, too, but that wind is hard to listen to. I am glad it is gone.
Please - just one egg roll before my head drops onto the keyboard.....
car lights
there it is
YES YES YES YES
Did you all see that beautiful egg and the wiggle wiggle!
Okay Ladies - I think we see what we see ! I will not go and delete my post ! I got a grab, will test drive it and see how it turned out...
Deb - did you get a video ?
Wow, Double Wow !
xoxox ☺ ☺ ☺ ♥ ♥
I was able to get a pic from the Still cam = Did any of you get it.

This is sooooo eggciting!
Back in a few going to see if the pic was any good....
I got a picture and a video. I'll load the video, but it will take a while to finish up.
Lets all put pics on Eaglet Momsters
Even if they turn out to be the same
the momsters will know there is truth
in numbers.......
What say?
Okay - I'm in - working on mine now.... Wahooo !
more car lights
I didn't take any because I knew you all where taking them:)
Are you going to make an album, or do you want us to e-mail it?
Deb - We should start an album
But first send you pic out and mention
that you have a video on the blog.
Right now I'm too tired to do the album
If you are wide awake and want to start that - go for it!
I did send an email but told them that there were more to come........
they are e-mailing them to momster mail
I can take another picture off of my video and send it to you so you can send it out, Helen!

thanks Deb...
I am very very happy and satisfied with being able to see that egg!
