Fledgling Pics

A week or two ago, some of our folks saw one of the fledglings on the ground near the NCTC Day Care Center. Here they are:

This one is certainly at ease with human development...

Statistics

We got some statistics of how many folks accessed the still cam last month, and the numbers are big:

total hits are 3,402,750
Unique visitors was about 13,500

and we had visitors from 71 countries around the globe.

This bird site was a big referrer.

Remember these numbers are just for May. I suspect the numbers were much higher earlier in the season.

Cam Problems Update

We have identified the source of the signal problems we've all seen this week. Our microwave signal is being blocked partially by some tree limbs that have leafed out really well, and that may have been impacted by the storms over the past week.

We've requested that the limbs be trimmed. Hopefully it will happen today.

Saturday Afternoon

Just got in and saw the long roll of comments. We all get frustrated when the live feed goes down, and the NCTC folks work hard to keep things going, amongst their other long list of responsibilities... I just spoke to the front desk clerk and the closed circuit feed at NCTC is working, so the eagle guests today can see the live cam on the monitor in the front lobby.

Another note, I live 40 miles from NCTC, so popping in is not an option. :>)

Hot day, new thread.

Video of Fledge 2

Watch the reaction of the littlest eaglet.

Thursday PM

Looks like an eagle (eaglet?) at 10:00 to the nest. Our poor little guy misses his siblings...

Thursday

The DC TV station meteorologists are calling the storms that roared through this region yesterday the most widespread and vicious that they have ever seen. Tornado warnings were widespread, and huge areas of Northern Virginia and Maryland and parts of WV are without power. Where I live there is no power anywhere, despite little visible damage.

So, yesterday, as I was driving out about 4:00 pm, I did see our first fledgling, perched at the top of a sycamore about three hundred yards to the southeast of the the nest tree. Have not gotten any reports this AM, other than the second fledge occurring less than an hour ago.

Here is the link to that event, thanks Glo.

Just had a big line of strong storms, including tornadoes come through here. The two eaglets are wet, but acting normal. No sign of the adults or the fledgling right now. Live feed is down.
